Sam Taylor-Johnson To Direct Fifty Shades Of Grey - Will She Cast Her Husband As The Lead

Sam Taylor-Johnson has officially been hired to direct Fifty Shades Of Grey. It made me wonder though if this also means that she will cast her much much younger husband Aaron Johnson as Christian Grey. Christian is 27 and Aaron is 23, but he is British so probably seems older. Aaron and his wife are very close.  They met when he was 19 and worked on a film she was directing and they had two kids together very quickly. When they got married he changed his name to Aaron Taylor Johnson. He is going to be her first choice. Whether she can get it approved is another thing, but she will try her hardest. You might have to get used to Aaron as your Christian.

  1. Boring books and boring films.

  2. Aaron seems to gravitate toward higher brow projects. I can't see him doing this.

  3. This movie is going to suck just like those books. If she casts him, I feel very bad for him.

  4. As long as they don't cast Kristen Stewart, I'm ok with whoever is cast.

  5. Hey Enty/s...what's your beef against this guy?! LOL

  6. Is enty saying that they both hyphenated their last names when they got married? That's really not strange.

My best friend is getting married this winter and her fiance is choosing to take her last name (all his idea). Both their kids have her last name and his last name is the guy her mom married (and subsequently divorced) after he was born and really doesn't mean anything to him. So he just thought it would be better to take her last name.

  7. I wonder if there ever in world history will be one article about Sam without referring to the mindblowing fact that she is married to a "much younger" man.

  8. Good for Sam! That being said, the movie will most likely be as awful as the books.

  9. I don't know anything about any of this - just wanted to say that's a pretty good-lookin' dude up there, so, although I'd rather poke my eyes out with a fork than see this movie, don't know why this dude couldn't handle it.

  10. Lainey is obsessed with them and I don't know why.

  11. He was very yummy in Anna Karenina.

  12. I think Aaron is a great actor, and I love their love story. But I don't think he's right for this role.

Is anyone else besides me shocked that the skinny dork from Kick Ass turned into such a raging hottie? Seriously.

  13. What an incredible waste of time, money and celluloid. I don't believe every book should be turned into a movie and I don't believe that random hit TV shows from the past should either. In this case I was hoping someone would come to their senses and put the whole movie idea on a shelf and forget about it for the next 12 centuries.

I don't understand what was sooooo exciting about the books. Standard female spank book really. He loves her, but he's unattainable, he spanks her, they have sex, there's a cliffhanger so she can milk more books out of it, it's pretty standard fare. This Johnson guy, no pun intended, doesn't really do it for me, I think that the perfect person for that role would be that tall OCD Swede, the vamp one from true blood. Forgetting his name. His Dad's been in the biz forever.

    1. Anna Nonymous I think you're thinking of Alexander Skarsgard. Yummy! Now that would be delicious to watch!

  15. The first thing I thought is that Alex Pettyfer probably regrets "sucking" up to Gus Van Sant who was rumored to get it.

  16. Wow...love Sam Taylor-Johnson...and I know her husband is 23 yrs younger than her, but they really look great together. I guess when you find your soul mate, nothing will keep you apart.

  18. Wait, she is 27 and he is 23? Four years is much younger?

What's wrong with them both hyphenating their names?

    1. @caralw- enties want you to know the character in the book is 27 and he is 23 in real life. Sam is 46.

  19. Ok, I googled. She's 46. Emty really needs a copy editor. Surely "he" is making enough money.

  20. If there promises to be hot sex and lots of nudity you can count me in. Don't really care who is in it. I did read the books, they were super lame but I do admit that parts of it got to me in me lady parts.

  21. Would she really want to direct her husband in movie based off a book that is just sex scene after sex scene?

  22. If my hubby were that much younger, I wouldn't tempt him with a young, pretty actress in a movie with lots of sex scenes, but that's just me.

I looked up some excerpts of the book online to see what all the fuss was about, but the writing was so bad I gave up after one paragraph.

  23. Aaron is so hot. That is all.

@ greenmountaingal - actually, they should cast Kristin Stewart. Why waste a good actress (unless you're a fan of the books, of course...)

  25. Irrelevant. The box office on this series does not look good. Who's the audience?

Dominants and submissives? They tend to keep that private, no?

Middle-aged women? I know they helped make these books happen, but they don't tend to go to the movies as much. This isn't Sex and the City, the last film I can think of to get hordes of twenty to fifty-something women into a theater.

Book clubs? Maybe that will be their angle.

I'll bet the digital distribution of it will do gangbusters, though. The privacy of your own home. Replaying your favorite scenes.

  26. Unless the movie has an NC-17 or XXX rating it will totally suck balls.

Guarantee they cock blocked the porn parody because they new it would be better.

Save yourselves the ticket price, and put that money into a one month membership to SexAndSubmission.com. $29.95 will get you access to 250+hrs of hi def, no holes barred S&M.

  27. I think this is one of those things that needed to happen fast to catch the fanbase. Most of the people that I know that went bonkers over 50 Shades last year are saying the books stunk now...so I think the ship has sailed on this one.
She is a talented director. I don't think she has enough clout to demand her husband play Christian. And I don't know that he will and I don't know that either one of them would think it's good for their relationship- 1) the belief he got the part because of her 2) or the belief she got the gig because they wanted him.
I think this would fare better as a cable series and hopefully whoever handled the script jettisoned and improved most of the plot. I see this being cast with unknowns.

  28. And not one iota of a f**k was given about this book and its movie.

  29. Well, if anyone can turn 50 Shades into an interesting project, it's Sam Taylor-Johnson, and her husband Aaron is never better than when she's directing him imo.

Which reminds me.. she directed him in REM's "Uberlin" music video. He's really fun to watch if you haven't yet seen it.

  30. I have no clue who any of these people are, and I have no interest in 50 Shades. However, based on the pic he does seem to be a yummy choice.

My husband took my name! It wasn't really about me; his loser con father had the same name and he wanted to change it but it costs a LOT more in court fees to just change to some random name than to take your sweetie's name so that's what he did. Ever the romantic...L

  31. I agree with you, Phoenix. It wouldn't be the first time a talented director turned a stinker of a book into a decent movie. She's got a big job ahead of her with that steaming pile o' words and pseudo-pop-psychology.

  32. @BitterBlondin: Of all the sins Enty commits this isn't one of them. I had no idea who Sam Taylor-Johnson was and had to Google her. And I was unaware there was an age difference until then.

That said Get It GIRLL!! Really after a certain point age doesn't matter. I'm older than my husband by 6 yrs.

Maybe someone can do something with these suck ass books. Maybe it's her and maybe he WOULD be good in the role. But the script will be the key. Definitely.

I can also see it better cast with unknowns. Too much attention is on the book already. They've got a lot of (PR) work ahead of them to make it a surefire success.

Yeah, that was crazy they blocked the p*rn parody. I saw it. It was actually pretty good. I agree. They knew it was better than what they would come up with.

  34. Every time I think of this horribly written Twilight Fanfic making more money, I roll my eyes so hard it hurts. UGH! Please, Aaron! I love you in Kick Ass. Don't do this movie and break my heart!

  37. I read all three books five times last summer and I'll see the movie even though my expectations are low. It's taking too long to get this movie made and interest is dying, but I have nothing better to do so WTH.
