When you watch this short video, you can see why he used to be one of the best comedians in the world.

  1. Even though he has a terrible reputation for stealing material. The fact that he never stopped doing stand up comedy (ahem Eddy Murphy). Even in the smallest of venues.

Really makes me admire him for always going back to his roots.

I loved his HBO specials when I was a kid.

    1. I never believed he.stole jokes and the reason is because he always joked about current events and when u joke about the topics of the day u r going to have jokes that overlap. I mean seriously how many jokes are there about say Bush or Reagan? You know what I mean? Its not like he was stealing someone's bit like say all of a sudden he was smashing watermelons on stage (i.e. Gallagher) then I'd say yea he steals jokes. Anyway that's my opinion, oh and he is by far one of the funniest improvisational comedians out there!

  8. Hes not that funny. Tried to get into him years ago due to all the praise thrown his way. Maybe acting like a hyperactive spazz was funny in the 80s but i failed to see much humor in it...

Hes a schtick comedian. Sadly, theyre the ones that get the fame :(

  9. about ten years back my sister and her husband hit up a hole in the wall comedy club in San Francisco on like a Tuesday night.A few no name acts performed then out comes Robin Williams.no one knew he'd be there. Guess he would randomly try out new material on small audiences.an amazing night for them indeed.

  11. I remember seeing him on the Alan Hamel show in 1976 when he was just starting out. Just loved him. Then a concert at the Ottawa Exhibition was announced with Robin Williams as the opening act. I gathered my babysitting $$ to buy tickets, and learned at the box office that Robin Williams was a female singer, not the comedian. I was soooo disappointed. Decades later - 1998 - I met him in Toronto when he was with his nanny wife. Robin was nice and cool.Though I was struck by how much hair was protruding from his shirt collar... His wife was power tripping and a pill.

  13. Dennis Leary steals material. I'm not aware of any stealing done by Williams.

  15. He's funny, but he's exhausting. Hyper as hell. I love him.

  16. just to clarify my point here is an article about it and other comics who stole material. It seems Robin Williams calls it 'joke sampling'

Yes Denis Leary is famous for stealing material. The famous line created off of of No Cure for Cancer is.. Why is Dennis Leary famous and Bill Hicks isn't there is No Cure for Cancer..

Dennis stole from Bill ending their friendship.

The best example of stolen material was Joe Rogan confronting Carlos Mencia about it.

  18. timebob, I knew Carlos Mencia was a joke thief (a shame because I always thought he was funny) but damn, steal from the Cos?

I still and will forever love Denis and Anne Leary. "Why We Suck" made me laugh so hard I cried.
