Prometheus Is Getting A Sequel
I didn't understand one thing in Prometheus. I watched it several times and all I know is that some people went to sleep so they could go deep into space for some get rich quick scheme masterminded by some guy Charlize Theron called dad even though he looked 1,000. That was pretty much it and then some creature that was in the Alien movies came out at the end. I don't know if anyone understood the movie, but studio executives must love that because they are making a sequel to the movie. Honestly, they could make the sequel with Muppets and I would believe them that it was a continuation because I was that baffled with what was going on. Apparently they got a different screenwriter for the sequel. I suggest he offer a summary at the bottom of each few frames of film so I know exactly what is going on at all times. Oh and Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender will be in the sequel. Didn't they die? Am I remembering wrong about them being buried on the planet?
No the Noomi character went off to find the creators and ask them questions.
ReplyDeleteI can't even remember what happened to Fassbinder tho!
Pass.
ReplyDeleteThat movie sucked balls. I watched it on a tiny airplane tv 6 inches away from my nose. I'm not sure if that made it worse but I had time to kill so I watched that piece of shit from start to finish. Won't be at the sequel so don't bother inviting me.
ReplyDeleteWould the sequel to a prequel be the original?
ReplyDeleteThis made me laugh; and I agree.
DeleteYou're really stupid if you did not understand that movie. Stick to lying about celebrities.
ReplyDeleteI admit to having a confused look on my face for the majority of the movie, but I would like to believe that's because I started watching halfway thru. And thanks msgirl for saying where she went because I spent 5 minutes wondering out loud where the heck she was going on an empty planet with no food or water in sight. Ok, maybe I started watching more than halfway thru.
ReplyDeleteI actually understood most of it, the only part I still can't figure out is the very beginning - what was that?!
ReplyDeleteI viewed it as a flashback: that was how the aliens created the human race. The alien drank the potion, disintegrated into what looked like Niagara Falls and his DNA recombinated presumably to start the evolution what became modern man on Earth.
DeleteYou have to watch the first one again! Here it is in three minutes courtesy of Honest Trailer: They Went Looking For a Prequel, They Found a Bald Albino. OMG, it's hilarious.
ReplyDeletethe movie is very idiot and confused but i don't see where it's complicated and you need to see again the movie .Rapace is alive(she wants to know why) and Fassbender's head is straight LOL
ReplyDelete@Renee Lovelace
ReplyDeletelol
Noomi and Fassbender lived, they went off together in search of the creators/engineeers at the end.
ReplyDeleteAs a huge fan of the first two films and a general scifi nerd, I really, really wanted to like this movie but... no, it just did not work.
Lots of "Why are they doing THAT?!" and "What the hell just happened?!". Irrational decisions, details that defied logic, that kind of stuff. For a better idea of how bad it was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BWnTW4rL0U
It has a 74% on Rotten Tomatoes which leads me to believe a lot of people reviewed it favorably to avoid looking like a fool for not "getting" it.
Also, with a $130 million budget and $400 million in box office, a sequel was inevitable.
I'll probably go see that, too. I can't even help myself.
Thank you Enty for summing up my understanding of the film. Honest Trailer nailed it too.
ReplyDeleteNot confusing! Can't wait for the sequel prequel's sequel whatevs
ReplyDeleteNomNom - me too, not only am I a huge SF geek, I also love Scott. I rarely see movies in the theatre, but space stuff is great on the big screen.
ReplyDeleteThat muvie was terrible! I loved the original and most of the sequels, but this was hogwash. I doubt a sequel can redeem it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen it yet. I loved the other Alien movies, and due to hearing how much this sucked, never really wanted to see it.
ReplyDeleteThis totally miffs me, they will make this one, but they won't greenlight Cloverfield? *shakes fists*
Cloverfield was shit. Can't go the whole shakey cam thing
DeleteNOT confusing. There was an excellent blog post about all the biblical references. I will agree it was not well edited, but the subtext was interesting and made the film make total sense. Knowing the references made watching the 2nd time so much better.
ReplyDelete(Can't find the link. Sorry I don't know the Bible well enough to quote all the references in the movie.)
MadamChef, thanks for the link, that wa hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI got the movie but the reason I'm not a fan of this one (love, love Aliens) was because I just had a hard time liking any of the characters, so I didn't care if they lived or died.
ReplyDeleteI abhor the name "Prometheus" for so many reasons, none of them regarding this movie.
ReplyDeleteConfused by a movie? Go to wikipedia for synopsis. Its solved many a mystery for me!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby loved this flick, i cldnt make heads or tails of it. But I loved the matrix, and he doesnt get that, so i guess we even. Lol
I really enjoyed it especially watching the first 45 mins of Alien afterwards (well and the rest too!) it did it justice I feel :) even noooooomi thingy
ReplyDeleteThe science in the film made no sense at all.
ReplyDeleteWhat I mean is that there is no way that we would have the same DNA as one of the designers - we would have DNA similar to them, much in the same way we have DNA similar to other primates.
Also, why did the Designer drink the black goo and dissolve in the beginning?
At first I thought that was a reference to abiogenesis - but there was already life on the planet. If not plants (which I could swear I remember seeing), certainly it's implied since the Engineer was breathing on the planet.
@ Libby - I googled "blog post about biblical references in Prometheus" and got a few hits. Maybe you could be so kind as to do that and post the link to the blog you're referring to? I just might give the movie another try if I had a study guide to help me figure out just what in hell was going on.

ReplyDeleteRead above summary, clears it right up. Anyone calling this movie stupid is just showcasing the fact that they are idiots with no comprehension skills.
I was very entertained by this movie. I eye rolled a lot, but it was fun.
ReplyDeleteLOL @ the movie snobs claiming anyone who doesn't get their favorite movie is a blithering idiot. It's true! We plebes watch Dumb & Dumber every day, and sometimes throw in Magic Mike to make us raaaaandy!
ReplyDeleteLol @ River, you got me!
DeleteI don't care how "brilliant" a movie is, when someone runs in a STRAIGHT line to get away from the giant rolling donut, I'm done.
ReplyDeleteI "get" what happened. I just thought it was irrational and illogical in too many places, it weakened the film.
I understood this movie and enjoyed it. I have seen a You Tube video explaining the movie and answering a bunch of questions I never thought to ask. So now, I think I've developed a "Prometheus Complex", too stupid to know I should be confused!
ReplyDeleteMadame Chef...I thought I saw that Honest Trailer but guess I hadn't. I love those!
ReplyDeleteDiscoBitch, to each their own. I guess I loved it when I read up on the "Monster" before watching it.
ReplyDeleteSPOILER!!
It was just a baby! Who hates on babies?! LOL
It wasn't bad because it was confusing, because it really wasn't, it was bad because it was BORING.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was a terrible movie, but I think you're giving it too much credit if you think it's confusing. Actually not all that much happened.
ReplyDelete"Read above summary, clears it right up. Anyone calling this movie stupid is just showcasing the fact that they are idiots with no comprehension skills."
ReplyDeleteSorry, the science of the film is quite stupid.
Again, there was no need to seed life on earth or whatever planet the initial engineer was on - the Engineer was not wearing any special breathing apparatus; that suggests that oxygen was already present on the planet. Which in turn suggests plants that are able to produce oxygen.
Second, how could their DNA be identical to ours? They are clearly a different species (at a minimum) than us. Not to mention there are no throw away lines about how human beings are not descended from other primates. It's just left hanging.
Third, Noomi has an alien cut out of her and is obviously in pain when she's running around. Yet she's able to jump and hang onto rocks?
There is, of course, more.
If you watch Alien right after it makes much more sense
ReplyDeleteHow was this movie hard to understand? Two scientists believed we were all created by these engineers, they go looking for them funded by old rich guy who wants to live forever. They find this world that turns out to be a weapons testing planet gone wrong, that the Aliens from the aliens movies were created here - they find one engineer left they wake him up and he starts killing everything - probably because he thinks they are all infected and if it gets out it could destroy the universes....chick takes fassbender's head in engineer spaceship off to their home planet to find out wtf is going on..
ReplyDeletewas not hard to understand at all and I only saw it once.
Ohhh so that's what the beginning was all about!~ Thanks! That was the only confusing part for me, I'd actually watch the movie a 2nd time.
ReplyDeleteMac - thanks for the link.
wait, wouldn't "Alien" be the sequel?
ReplyDeleteBig disappointment, although the first hour was pretty good. Way too much music though.
ReplyDeleteLike others said, decent box office = inevitable sequel. I think Ridley Scott was planning to make one anyhow.
I actually paid to see this movie in a theater and wanted to sue the studio for my money back (plus what I paid for beer and nachos, since I saw it in a drafthouse theater).
ReplyDeleteThe movie sucked.
If it had a plot it had zero execution.
Kind of like...
2001
waste of time.
If you have to go home and watch f*cking youtube videos of interviews in order to understand what you just spent 2 hours watching, you may as well have burned a $20 bill. At least we can all grasp the concept of fire.
Prometheus was great. The two characters-- Fassbender/Noomi(one only a head) both survived at the end. They go on to seek out the aliens, and find out why they created us, if only to destroy us. A good science fiction movie/book always makes you question. It's called using your imagination.
ReplyDeleteSo, dear Enty, if you want it spoon-fed to you, go watch that psuedo-dreck they play on Scyfy, and leave real SciFi to others more intellectually suited to it. Better yet, go watch whatever the next load of crap Michael Bay churns out, starring Shit LaDouche. I will be watching Prometheus 2!
Hell's Bells, I just did a nerd rant. :-(
Jenn, yeah, ya did but it's OK. I'm nerdly and thought it sucked. Not "can't understand it" but "I'm bored" sucked. Bay movies are semi-trash, Prometheus was a vanity project.
ReplyDelete@Mac Thanks for the link. That was a great explanation for the movie!
