don't cry for ms.utah! based on her looks i'm sure she'll marry up just fine, perhaps a nice, wealthy, mormon guy who values her uterus over any other organ.
what i'm saying is woman w/ looks like hers, get by in life w/ paper free paychecks (uber rich hubbies, boyfriends who buy the world for her) and NO i wouldn't want that existence (but i have a brain)
For some reason, the video won't load audio for me, but here's the transcript from this braintrust:
Miss Utah, Marissa Powell, was asked about the male-female income disparity in this country at tonight’s Miss USA pageant. Her answer was perhaps the most nonsensical thing ever said in a public forum.
I think we can relate this back to education and how we are continuing to try to strive to (pause) figure out how to create jobs right now. That is the biggest problem and I think, especially the men, are um, seen as the leaders of this and so we need to try and figure out how to create education better so we can solve this problem.
We need to figure out how to create education better you guys! Tangibly related, how to create boob jobs better.
I'm so happy that she isn't my kid! But then she wouldn't be, because my kids are educated better and um, I'm the leader of this, and um, I'm not from Utah.
Poor thing. That's a hard question to answer. Even in a white collar job a woman VP makes less than a male VP. Certainly more educational opportunities will allow for girls to be better educated but females now out number men in colleges and yet their pay continues to lag. What's the take away from that? If there was an easy answer this problem wouldn't exist.
It was an unfair question to ask a Mormon. She is used to a world where men are expected to earn more and women are homemakers. She probably got tripped up because she didn't think it was a problem.
erika, I hear you, but boy there are days I wouldn't mind being a 'kept' woman. My answer to the question (I am Mrs peri menopausal middle-aged fat chick from Australia, my sash is ENORMOUS): While ever women are not paid the same rate as men for doing the same job, it affects the choices for both sexes. Men should not feel they have to shoulder the burden of being the main breadwinners. Gone are the days when we believed men could not be nurturing and women couldn't run a corporation. True equality allows choice for both sexes. I am confident that one day this question will not be relevant.
You know, that was harder to answer than I thought it would be.
I think most people understood what she was trying to say, however she wound up sounding like she graduated from the Derek Zoolander Center For Kids Who can't Read Good.
World peace. The answer, no matter what the question is, is always world fucking peace!
ReplyDeleteThere's something so off putting about a beautiful woman dumber than a box of hair. Jesus Christ lady - skate through life on your looks...
ReplyDeleteShe should he doing day care.
ReplyDeleteNo, the kids would outsmart her and make a run for it!
DeleteShe should be IN daycare.

Sounds like she was coached by Sarah Palin.

That's what happens when you ask a feminist question at a beauty contest...
ReplyDeleteCan we get a shot of the audience? That was painful.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that she isn't my kid! But then she wouldn't be, because my kids are educated better and um, I'm the leader of this, and um, I'm not from Utah.
ReplyDeleteSad.Sad.Sad. Someone please give this girl an education. This is ridiculous. How could she give such an answer! It's an embarrassment!
ReplyDeleteI only made it 37 seconds out of the 49 before it became too painful to continue watching.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't help that Giuliana Rancic calls her Sweetheart at the end.
ReplyDeletePick up a newspaper, honey! She reminds of the 'actresses' who don't think they need to waste their time on acting classes as long as they're pretty.
She looked like she was gonna cry.
ReplyDeleteThen again, is is a beauty contest, not a political debate.
This is what happens when you sacrifice beauty school for real education. Why do they bother with these pageants anymore? Jobs?
ReplyDeleteSooooo pretty yet sooooo sad.
ReplyDeleteI think the Miss Teen USA 2007 - South Carolina answers a question was worse, but at least she had the excuse of being a teenager. Miss Utah is a grown woman.
@Mango, thanks for that throwback link. That was hysterical and sad simaltaneously. I wonder where she is now. Can she find herself on the map? lol

ReplyDeleteBut I like Ms Killjoy's answer best...Always answer whirled peas!
ReplyDeleteReally sad when you can't answer a question from a Real Housewife.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely world peace.
