Kate Gosselin Practices Some Racism

Kate Gosselin has eight half Asian children and was married to an Asian. I guess that does not mean you can't make racist gestures about Asians though. She should be ashamed of herself for even putting herself in this position and I wonder what her kids are going to think of her. It is not just her adjusting her eyes, but she is wearing a plastic hairpiece to make it seem like she has Asian hair or is a geisha or something. The photo was released on Twitter on an account that only has had the one Tweet so far. I am guessing Kate Gosselin sent the photo out to a few of her friends and then it ended up on the internet. She has not commented about the photo yet, but I'm not sure what she could say to explain it away and will probably say she was wrong and apologize and move on and it is not like people are watching her on television anymore anyway. She had her time and it is gone. It's interesting though that she is essentially suing someone for being a bully to her but she thinks it's fine to make a racist gesture and that race includes her kids.

  1. Kate needs CASH! She probably released this herself after the Paula Deen thing. Kate can't live unless people are looking at her, positively OR negatively.

(Doesn't make much difference, but I believe the children are 1/4 Korean, as Jon is Korean/Caucasian.)

  3. People are overly sensitive to something that is clearly a joke. Her children are half Asian, I doubt that she discriminates against them or any other person of a different background, solely based on this pic. She might not be a nice person, but people in the spotlight get much more scrutiny than normal people out living their lives. She was an idiot for doing this, but the fact that she sent it to people tells me she meant to be funny and failed. Everyone is politically incorrect from time to time.

  5. That's not funny. It's a racist gesture stupid and cruel people use to try and be funny while mocking a person's ethnicity, but I digress, because I forgot that a lot of people get a kick out of this sort of low brow, infantile shit.

    4. Some dude wrote an ebook about Kate from information he claimed he got off of her computer that had been thrown out Kate's lawyers claim the info was stolen off of her computer (which had not been thrown out) by Jon and given to book writing dude. The book was released for about 2 days and then withdrawn when cease and desist letters were sent to Amazon by Kate, TLC and several other entities Kate had been involved with.

This picture has been rumored to have come from the stolen data, supposedly to smear Kate ahead of litigation. It was published from a one off Twitter account.Hopefully that was a better explanation than the first (admittedly) convoluted one.

This is an example of a stepping off point for racism. It is mini me racism, but nonetheless racism. So we are doing this on a spectrum now? So this is cool because it is only slightly racist? You've drawn a line in the sand, and your on the bigot side.

I'm really worried when I move to the States -in less than a month - I'll do something - without knowing - that you consider to be racist.

We don't have that here. We have obvious.... You dont judge a person by its color, ethnicity, social status..... You don't call people names.... You don't use pejorative words to refer to anyone what so ever. But all the rest, it's cool.....

  13. LeGrange, 30 Rock was a satire, they were using racist jokes to point out racism. What Kate's doing is like what kids do to Asian kids, call them chinks and pull their eyes back so they're squinty. It's really stupid but I wonder if she's making fun of her ass of an ex? Still stupid. You probably will offend someone, there are people who get offended by everything and there's jack you can do about it. There's lots of us reasonable people here too, come play with us and leave the nitwits to their fussing :)

My thought (right or wrong) is the term racism is thrown around waayyy too much and haphazardly. When one is "racist" that would imply that they feel or believe that another race, outside of there own, do not deserve fair, equal and respectable treatment because they are "less than" or "unequal". It seems to me in most cases like this (and T.E. Cuz's links), you'd need a whole lot more evidence to be accusing her or anyone of racism. Now having said all that...is she an insensitive d-bag with an extraordinary stupid sense of humor? I think yes but to accuse her of racism I think is a stretch just based on this alone. I did something extraordinary stupid at party once when I was young and drunk and I felt like a giant ass after I sobered up but I didn't do it in front of the world to be judged (thank god) and no one accused me of being racist because they knew me (and I wasn't the only one that did this stupid thing). But anyhow, I would be absolutely devastated if my peers genuinely thought I was racist over that. I cannot fathom treating someone different based on their ethnicity. (I was also raised in a very multi-ethnic home). Now Paula Deen? After hearing all the evidence that is coming to light and if it's all true? That screams racist to me...and makes me so sad...so sad that someone would really be ok with feeling that way about another human being :( So sorry so long.

  38. Being a minority is not a freaking joke! It's not a punch line! But once again if it doesn't affect you, or you've never been on the recieving end of this type of bs I guess it doesn't matter to you. People dot care and say "get over it" because it doesn't affect them. There is no offensive joke about white people like there are jokes about minorities, gays, etc so I don't expect them to understand but I do expect them to at least sympathize. After this and the whole Paula fiasco, I'm clearly expecting too much.

  40. Kate's response:

Clarification on my personal photo that was stored on our “home computer,” that recently surfaced and was released to the public, without my permission:

This was a happy memory of mine. It was a happy time for me and Jon, smiling and “goofing off” together. Jon and I were opening fan mail together one afternoon — which often filled the garage of our Elizabethtown home — and when we opened this plastic Asian dress up wig sent from a caring fan, we smiled, each taking turns posing in it and snapping photos (on my phone) of each other. Naturally, I “slanted” my eyes to show him my best Asian impression, which made him smile.

Evidently, a fan sent it for me to wear so that I too could “be Asian” like the rest of my family. At that time, a common topic of our show was “everybody’s Asian” — except for mommy, so a thoughtful fan figured she’d help me look Asian too! It’s normal to talk about and even “exaggerate” the feature differences between family members of a biracial family as they are noticed by curious growing children within the family. These types of discoveries and at home discussions are a normal part of being a loving accepting biracial family and it does not make any of us prejudice!

I married an Asian. I have eight biracial children therefore I’m quite certain that I’m the last person that could be called a racist. I learned to cook Korean foods from Jon’s mom and grandmother. I couldn’t be more proud of my eight beautiful children and wouldn’t change anything about them or their heritage. They are absolutely perfect just the way they are.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Man, you mainlanders really really have a thing about race, don't you? I'm part-Asian myself and did it. Of course in Hawaii, the Asian kids have a comeback where they push their eyes towards the nose and say "Portagee!"

This blowing off steam in Hawaii. Gosselin's family is from here and I would not be surprised if her kids taught her that stupid little ditty after a visit with their cousins.

It always gets me how people will make a huge fuss about this shit, but are the same people who actively take part in gentrifying urban neighborhoods, silently whitewashing away all the Blacks, Hispanics and immigrant communities via pricing out and health code violations on their stores and restaurants so they can have their hip urban spaces. That sickens me more than something like this ever would.

She's an idiot for doing this. It would be wrong in any context.
