Bollywood Star Salman Khan Charged With Murder

Over 10 years ago, Salman Khan drove on to a sidewalk filled with sleeping homeless people and killed one man and injured three others. I'm not sure why it took so long to decide what crime to charge the actor with, but an Indian court has decided on murder. Earlier he was set to be tried for a form of negligent homicide and would have carried a maximum penalty of two years in jail. The new charge carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in jail. Khan has made over 90 films in his career.

    2. I reply "I.am.khan." to most things asked of me lately...it seems to always make me laugh and fits an array of situation
..as in.. "meg, why didnt you finish the dishes?" Cause I.am.khan!"Meg want to come grab a beer?" Of course as I.am.khan! "Why do you think you'd make a good addition to our workplace? " I.am.khan! See? Fun for whole family! Lol

  8. @auntliddy, I'm Indian and my family has a probate case which has been in the Indian court system for 24 years. It's ridiculous how slow and corrupt the Indian courts are. As for SK, he is a fucking scumbag whose karma is finally catching up to him now.

  9. yea. this guy is a real piece of work. He beat Aishwarya and stalked her. At some point SRK tried to defend her on set and Salman tried to beat him up too.

  10. Now...if this guy lived in Hollywood, instead of Bollywood...he would have served 1 day in jail, possibly one month, and then would be back to making movies.

  11. Wait...he's not the one with Kareena Kapoor is he? There are so many bollywood actors w the same or similar last names that I get them mixed up...

  13. Don'tRain: No, Kareena married Saif Ali Khan, who I love (in movies anyway.) Salman is a classic roid-rage tyrant.

  15. And people wonder why I loathe Bollywood even though I'm Indian. (Okay, the mostly crappy movies they put out these days also has something to do with it but still).

This is insane. I have no idea about any Bollywood actors' lives, only that if you're rich and famous in India you can get away with anything. It's sadly true that for a third world country, virtually most aspects of it are very corrupt. The courts are a joke. Honestly, if Khan really did this, I'm shocked anyone's attempting to bring him to justice at all.

DontRainonMyPrada, I don't think I've seen a genuinely good Bollywood movie in years. If you understand Hindi, I'd look more at the old classics like Madhumati. Have you ever seen Jodha Akbar? I really liked that one.

  18. How can you have a film industry & ban kissing? Movies are supposed to end with a kiss. Bollywood movies must never really end. They're like the old Lone Ranger TV show. They all end with "....To be continued....".

  19. Yes, I had heard that the Indian court system is notoriously slow. Those guys that raped and killed the girl on the bus? They will never see any time. It's tragic.

  20. Oh and his porn 'stache makes him look like a douche.

  21. Agree with @JadeHenry - this screams "roid-rage."

Bollywood or Hollywood: there are two kinds of justice. Celebrity and non-celebrity.

  22. I thought this was the guy who drove a girl into suicide, but he is a different dipshit.

Are most Bollywood thespians douches or there are so many of them that the douchy ones are just a tiny percentage?

  23. Can someone explain why he would only get a maximum of 10 yrs for murder? What about the 3 people he injured? Is there any justice for them?

    1. Without wanting to sound like a prat, @Lisa, (I am not Indian) from what I know of the Indian legal system I think it's because the victims were completely disenfranchised. A girlfriend and I (she is Indian background, with close ties, visits, etc) used to discuss Indian politics. Honestly surprised it's gone this far.

  24. @lazyday603, it's a cultural thing. Easterners think Westerners are sluts, Westerners think Easterners are prudes. And then there are Europeans who are more liberal than anybody else and thought the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal was no big deal. Cultural relativism.

No, not all Indian actors are douches are there aren't *that* many of them, mostly because nepotism runs rampant in Bollywood now. This guy is like the Tom Cruise of Bollywood, he's near the top of the Bollywood A-list but not all actors there are like he is. Like with Hollywood, I'm sure there's a tier system in place. I don't know it though because I avoid Bollywood like the plague.

  25. @Lisa, it says they're trying him for "negligent homicide" which sounds to me like it's the Indian court version of involuntary manslaughter which could be why the sentence isn't as much. Or they're expecting Khan to get the big gun lawyers who can get his sentence reduced. Who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  26. @librariantobe it says earlier he was to be charged with negligent homicide which would have only carried a 2 yr sentence. Both of those just blows my mind.

  27. @Lisa, I know what you mean. I wish I knew what to tell you but I don't.

  28. The best Bollywood movie I've seen in a while is Delhi Belly. Its genuinely, hilariously funny.

  29. It's nice to know that Bollywood stars are finally being treated equally to their Hollywood counterparts. Ekaraj Estrada here made two key mistakes, though - his weapon was a car (not a gun from his own collection or his fists), and his victim was a random homeless guy (not his girlfriend/babymama). One can only hope that by the time the Hindu OJ kills his ex or the Punjabi Phil Spector blows away some hostess from the Hard Rock Mumbai they get it right.

Good luck in the elaborately tiled shower, Ponch.
