Woman Rescued After 17 Days In Bangladesh

I am not usually one to write about world news, but I think anyone who manages to survive for 17 days in the rubble of a collapsed building that has killed well over 1,000 people deserves a bit of a writeup. When there is so much tragedy and so much loss of life and so many grim things that have happened this week, it is nice to actually write about someone who lived through something so awful. Think about how happy her parents are to have her back. Think about the joy that came out of the tragedy of Amanda Berry and her fellow captors. How their parents probably gave up hope so many years ago, but have been reunited. I am such a sucker for a happy ending. The woman who survived in Bangladesh had dried food next to her and also a limited supply of water and is actually in pretty good shape. How do you keep yourself going for those 17 days, wondering if anyone will find you before the food and water give out.

  1. Actually, Enty, Amanda Berry's mother can't be glad that she's back, because she died, "of a broken heart" according to those who loved her, a few months after Sylvia Browne, the self-professed "psychic," told her that Amanda was dead.

Yeah, "psychics" are just fun entertainment, they don't do any harm....

    1. Jas, agree, but dont you have to bring something to the table? Who takes psychic's word as truth? Having said that, it is disgraceful to exploit the bereaved, no doubt about it.

  2. You're not one to write about world news?
Is that why for a week you left Boston bombing posts at the top of the site all day? Every day!
You are a liar and I HATE YOU.

  3. JAS - I remember seeing Sylvia Brown on GMA in December of 89 talk about how we'd all have flying cars soon after the turn of the century. Liar!!!

  4. This is an amazing story to come out of this tragedy. Over a thousand dead and she's alive after 17 days. Here's hoping that the people requesting goods from this manufacturer step up to the plate with some assistance for these people. Neary as many people died in this as in one of the twin towers. This negligence will hopefully bring global working conditions to the forefront.

We humans are dumber than we like to admit. But we are also stronger than we realize. That story represents the latter, obviously.

  10. @JAS and disco, did you see Sylvia Brown actually issued a statement that said something to the effect that she's never been so glad to be wrong? Unreal.

Just keep praying, talking to your Guardian Angels/Spirit Guides, family members that have passed over, whatever gets you through. Imagine good things, good times, your children, your pets. Anything to stay positive.
Wow thanks for the dirt on the predictions of Sylvia Brown, I've got a bunch of her books and havent heard of how she's been wrong. Anyone else have any anecdotes about her?

    1. Besides the fact that Sylvia is completely rude?!? She once pulled into a handicap spot as a person with a WheelChair was trying to! She ended up bitching at THEM for almost hitting her!! It was crazy.

  17. In the early days, you used to link news that happened in Australia & NZ. Why did that stop?

  18. Call me a skeptic but she has no injuries- She crawled into the wreckage and was 'found'.

  19. This is a great story, but how much more of these building collapses and fires are going to happen before the companies that contract with them have finally had enough and insist on safety regulations? This is at least seven times as worse than the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire. When do corporations start being held liable like the 'people' they are, when they put profits over lives?

It is estimated that factory upgrades could cost consumers as little as ten cents per garment. TEN CENTS. I would ask why they won't do it, but I already know the answer. Cold hard cash. Greedy fuckers.

    1. @Snapdragon - you win the internet for that reference. And when people think corporations are so awesome they should have to read about the Ludlow massacre. We have a short collective memory and it is a problem.

@ Chicky, are you an overweight bacon loving attorney? If not why are you able to censor this website? I don't think you even go here.

Sweet luck was on her side!
