Today's Blind Items - Lost Her Ghostwriter

This actress is an upstart. She is probably a C lister, who, with any luck will probably be a B lister by the end of the year and studios think she has a chance to be A list by this time next year as film roles are dropping into place for her constantly. The thing is, she did not get her fame as an actress, but as something else. A writer mostly. The problem is that her co-writer found out about her cheating on him and broke up with her. He had always said he did all the writing and just gave her credits because they were together. It sounds like it now because since they split all she does is act. No more writing. She keeps saying she is working on something, but that is trying to find a new writer who would like to "co-write" with her.

  2. Olivia Munn - remember when she "wrote" for the Daily Show?

  3. I would be so hurt if this is Mindy Kaling. I thought of Lena Dunham originally but she's dating a musician, right?

  4. I thought Lena Dunham, as well.

  5. @cdanluva Olivia Munn? lol Never heard that before. She has a book too. Guess she had a ghostwriter for that too.

  6. I thought of that Diablo Cody chick but I dont think it quite adds up... hmmm not Mindy she writes for her new show, right?

  7. Yes, Olivia Munn flirted and sheer-bra-ed her way onto the Daily Show. She was SO awful, they dropped her like a hot rock!

FWIW, the writers' room of "The Office" was a lot of group activity. So if Mindy wasn't really writing those episodes, it would have gotten out. I can't see BJ Novak writing everything and only taking half credit for HER.

  8. I don't think it's Mindy. She's not an upstart. She's done all sorts of writing for years: TV, plays, her book, etc. It's hard to believe she managed to fake all that. And even though Lena is all It Girl right now, and an upstart for sure, I doubt studios are looking to cast her in any sort of leading role.

  9. Not a long of female writers turned actresses but I'm stumped.

@kristin Diablo Cody isn't an actress (I don't think). She has another project coming up too.

  10. Brit Marling. look her up.

  11. Mindy Kaling is the head writer for her current show, she's not only acting so it can't be her. Also, she sold a movie recently as a writer but isn't acting in it I think Anne Hathaway is in consideration.

  12. I'm with the Mindy guess. Her ex is a writer.

  13. Oh no! I hope this isn't Mindy and BJ... but she has a book, so I doubt it's her. Also, he'd never let anyone take credit for anything.

Sounds like Olivia Munn. She tried to play the cool funny girl angle, unfortunately, right when a lot of women in comedy were doing the exact same thing the real way. Sry, Munn.

  14. I can't imagine that it's Mindy Kaling. Her fame came in 2003 when she wrote and performed in Matt and Ben in NYC. She was recognized for both simultaneously.

    1. For both writing and acting, I mean. Sorry!

  15. Also, I don't think you can be anything less than B when you're top lining your own show, named after you. I do like the Brit Marling guess.

  16. Nikki Reed...she wrote "Thirteen", yes?

    1. My first thought too. I just don't know if she still counts as an upstart after the Twilight series. I'd have to check her upcoming projects.

  17. Brit Marling is a good guess. I really liked her in Arbitrage.

  18. "The creative team behind this summer's sleeper indie, "Another Earth", are two of the brightest UPSTARTS in the film industry today. Co-writer and actress Brit Marling, as well as co-writer/director/cinematographer/editor Mike Cahill"

  19. Mindy Kaling, Kristen Wiig and Anne Hathaway aren't C listers. I'm hopping on the Brit Marling train.

  20. Greta Gerwig? Frances Ha is coming out soon and she is dating director Noah Baumbach.

  21. It's not Mindy. She does most of the writing on her show. It's not Lena. He writers quit because she's so A-type at the writers table most of the writers barely get their ideas out. It's not Oliva Munn. She didn't write for the Daily Show and she's never claimed to be a writer.

  22. Can't be Lena Dunham. She wrote Tiny Furniture herself and she is still credited as head writer of her show. Plus she doesn't really act in much besides stuff she writes herself, so I don't see this part of the blind applying to Dunham "...film roles are dropping into place for her constantly..." That's not really happening for Lena.

The Brit Marling guess is perfect, imo. Everything totally fits for her. Her ex partner Mike Cahill has a film in post-production slated for 2014 without Brit as a co-writer. She's in it, though. My guess is that they were going to play this one just like all the ones before and he changed his mind after finding out about her cheating. It's the first film he has on IMDB without her taking up a co-writer credit.

  23. Nikki Reed is an awesome guess.

  24. This is disappointing. I liked Marling in Another Earth & Sound of my voice, and I thought it was nice that she was as intelligent as she seemed to be, writting AND acting.
I still hope it's not her, but it really seems to fit. u_u

  25. Can't be Nikki Reed, she was known as more of an actress than a writer.

My vote was Olivia Munn, but after seeing photos of the premiere of The East, Britt Marling looked miserable. So I'm on the Britt train.

  26. Checked out Brit Marling. I'm going with her as well.
    Whew! Glad it's not Mindy.

  27. Or this is just sour grapes of a dumped boyfriend trying to take more credit than he deserves.

    ReplyDelete
  28. It can't be Mindy, she's higher than a C for sure. And, I read her book and she's been writing for a very long time. And, I love her and will defend her! :)

  31. Mindy just had something published in the New Yorker.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sounds like Brit Marling. She got a lot of roles lately, so it might be her.

    ReplyDelete
  33. No way Kristen Wiig. She is A list after Bridesmaids and she came up with all her own hilarious characters on SNL. That's their job. They don't just perform.

  34. This is not a sarcastic question but just curiosity. Why Olivia Munn is so disliked?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I agree w/ Brit; however, if the break-up wasn't amicable why would the other party not talk smack?

  36. Co-writer made me think song writer.... But I don't have a guess.

    ReplyDelete
  37. not nikki reed, she is amazingly talented, and married.

lena dunham would not be an a-lister. she's too disliked, and not in a catty, gossipy way like goopy.

c-list would be someone almost unheard of, so out of all of these, brit is most plausible.

@30whatsnext, munn is so disliked because she tries so hard to be a funny, sexy, nerdy bombshell -- but she isn't any of those things. people, esp nerds, hate phonies.

  38. Don't believe it's Mindy; girl is fuuuuuuuuuuunny.

And it wouldn't surprise me a bit if it was Olivia Munn. Total talentless Cword that has seen more office ceilings than David Letterman's pencils.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I doubt it's Nikki... She didn't just write it, it was based off her life

    ReplyDelete
  40. @TE Cuz, being disliked but not in 'a catty, gossipy way like goopy' doesn't keep one off of the a list.

lena dunham is definitely a-list television. have you seen the awards she's gotten lately?

and, its definitely not mindy or lena or kristen.

  41. 1st guess was Lena but on the Brit Marling bandwagon. Good guess. People were going gaga over Sound of My Voice.

  42. Brit Marling is a great guess.

  43. I think this is Brit Marling (who I really liked in Arbitrage).

  44. My first thought was Brit Marling as well.

  45. Whitney Cummings

  46. Huh. I didn't even know who Brit Marling was until last night when I saw her on Craig Ferguson's show. In fact she was promoting a movie called The East about anarchists (?) and I think she said she co-wrote and co-directed the film. Weird coincidence, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I don't know who Brit Marling is, but that sounds right.

I want to say Chelsea Handler, but her books are so bad, I can believe she wrote them.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Oo, just recently saw Sound of My Voice -- it was good! Wow if so. (And it's weird because I'm a writer...funny that people think that has some cache.)

    ReplyDelete
  49. If it's Brit that will completely shatter me. I love her and Another Earth is one of my favourite movies. She cowrites (or cowrote) a lot of stuff with Zal Batmanglij and I read that they dated at one point...

That would be so awful, she talks about how few women are on the production side of the film industry and is all girl-powery.

    ReplyDelete
  50. *I mean Mike Cahill. She dated Mike Cahill.

  51. brit def last few the east premieres everyone is miserable. they must know something
