Ah but this is DofE! Duke of Edinburgh award. A British (I assume only British anyway) scheme which involves training, activity, social things that is usually done during teen years. It's like a Scouts kind of thing, encourages volunteer work, learning new skills, teamwork, communication, outdoorsy stuff etc. Fulfil some obligations & get a bronze, silver or gold DofE, but part of every DofE award ever is the outdoors trek, you have to do the camp/walk (can't even remember how long it's suppose to be but it must be done)
I do a lot of hardcore trips... how the heck did these nim wits get on one?

Yeah, I agree Claritysk. Don't go backpacking in nature if you can't handle actual nature.

Canada has the DofE award too, mostly done by teenage air, army or sea cadets.
