Blind Items Revealed

October 16, 2012

This one is kind of sad to me. What quirky actress from a modest hit network comedy who has always been considered nice, was anything but nice this week. While filming her show in a public area people had gathered to watch the filming. Our actress called out to the crew and asked for everyone to be removed. When the crew member said it was a public area and that nothing could be done, our actress said, "We will just see about that," and turned around and stormed off. A few minutes later another crew member approached the crowd and asked them if they would be kind enough to leave because our actress didn't like having regular people watching her film. The group were told they could come back later and watch other filming and they would pass out free t-shirts and posters. "It is just _______ is really uptight, and not very friendly when it comes to people."

Zooey Deschanel

  1. Wow, never would have thought she was THE type but in all fairness I know other performers who get nervous around people staring at them while they are getting into character so perhaps that was her issue?

  2. Everyone got this right!

  3. No, I don't see it. I expect it was more down to anxiety or shyness. Often the most outwardly gregarious and outgoing people have crippling insecurities which they try very hard to hide.

    1. I agree with Bodacious Betty. This could be more of an anxiety-fueled behavior than a diva-driven one. Anxiety hangups can come across as uptight if you don't know the situation.

    2. Agreed. Not bitchy or mean, there are plenty of performers who would find that situation uncomfortable.

  4. For some reason I'm not surprised. It often seems to be that the ones who ooze quirky sweet are the biggest batches.

Lola, liked what you had to say yesterday.

  5. well, that's not very adorkable.

  6. Well going from what the crew member said, it doesn't sound like it was only this time - she's "uptight" and not friendly". And any actor worth a dime knows how to focus with a crowd watching - theatre anyone? Unless the crowd was unruly and loud, which doesn't appear to be the case here.

Good point, you would say shy or gets nervous if that were the case

  7. What a turn off...I liked her on "Elf" and that's about it. I won't be watching her show.

  8. I kind of buy it. She did a song as She and Him on Letterman Friday & I've never seen a less comfortable singer perform. She had a sort of surprised/terrified look in her eyes the whole time.

  9. I have also seen her perform and she looked miserable the entire time. She was jumping around but her face looked sad I'm guessing it's an anxiety thing. She doesn't seem to enjoy the fame side of fame.

  10. Cute & quirky can take her only so far - eventually people will get tired of that act and if she can't demonstrate any real talent and ability to relate to fans she will be working at Hot Topic by the holidays.

  11. I like Zooey so I'm willing to cut her a little slack on this but she needs to watch it- quirky is ok but diva/mean is not.

  12. For no real reason whatsoever, she makes me.itchy. except in elf. I don't know why

    1. I feel the same way. Maybe it's because I'm so busy laughing like a moron at Will Ferrel that I don't have time to be annoyed by her. I also don't enjoy her singing, but can understand how others might.

    2. Yes! Will is so over the top and she comes off very mellow next to him

  13. Nicki Minaj is a diva. Zooey Deschanel is just socially awkward.

It also depends on the scene they were shooting. Wasn't one of the scenes in New Girl her being kicked out of the house semi-nude?

  14. I'm sorry, if people were standing around watching me work, outside of the normal crew, I would not be happy either.

I really hope it's a mistake that the crewmember said " she's not into regular people watching her..." that doesn't sound right anyways.. what she only allows celebrities and royals to watch her perform live? She's a little awkward and shy, I can see not wanting to perform for t.v in front of a crowd of people standing around on the street gawking at you. I think perhaps a crew member reported this and tried to make it sound worse than it was. imo

  16. i can kind of see this happening. and honestly, it's probably a combination of all the above factors.

i can understand being nervous when you are in a public, unfamiliar situation, but i can also see her being a little bit stand-offish to the average person.

  17. Something about her really bugs me. I don't find her cute or endearing, I can see how others might but yeah she just miffs me. It's like she always trying to hard to be quirky and adorkable

    1. I agree! She seems like she is trying too hard to come across as quirky. I'm not a fan and I'm not surprised this blind is her.

  18. This isn't true. When this BI came out there were photos of her filming on location talking to fans and people watching filming.

  19. Zooey is the type of person that lives their life the way E tells her to. If they said Country was the new thing, she'd be saying "Y'all" and "Howdy" while wearing cowboy boots and a Dior Stetson. If punk was the new thing she'd have her nose pierced and a lock around her neck on a bike chain.

She's so fake. Perfect for the Apple/Hipster generation.

  20. I love She and Him. Will continue to do so. Hope this is due to anxiety.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I hope it isn't true but she does strike me as being truly awkward.

  22. Maybe regular meant not the crew and actors she's around all the time and comfortable with, I dunno. I personally can't stand the whole adorkable thing, nor do I like her show. I do like her sister, and enjoyed it when they were on Bones together. As long as she's not doing that quirky weird crap, I can deal with her. I don't care for her, but, this blind may have just been a misunderstanding. Damn, that was long, sorry.

eh, everyone has their off days. cant be pleasant all the time.

  24. The 40 yr old hipster divorcee is also not a people person? Shocker!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. If this is true maybe she had a bad day. Who knows

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm with you, Ella. I find her annoying as hell. I liked 500 Days, but JGL was in that so I might have even tolerated Paris Hilton there...

I just gave myself the heebs. *L* Although she (Paris) was actually kinda tolerable in Repo, the Genetic Opera, because you really couldn't tell it was her. As to Zooey, get over yourself honey. There are about a hundred people watching whenever you're filming a TV show or a movie. They're called the crew, and guess what? They're just "regular people" too.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Maybe she's in the wrong biz. And she does try too hard, like the dopey iPhone commercial where she wanted tomato soup delivered?

    ReplyDelete
  28. NO! Doesnt want to film in front of 'regular' people. Those are the people who watch your show and keeps it from being cancelled cow!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I still love her.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Meh...I've never been a fan of her. I do like her singing voice, but I can't stand her whole "look at me, I'm cute and quirky" schtick. It's phony to me. Is that how you spell schtick?

  31. NNNOOOOOOOO!!!! My heart is broken...

  32. "And any actor worth a dime knows how to focus with a crowd watching - theatre anyone?"

Well, I don't think that Zooey has much stage experience. Also, the audience in a theatre is prepped to focus on the performance solely. That's a lot different than a bunch of random folks hanging out outside barriers trying to get cell phone pics or whatever. Probably didn't happen, but understandable if it did. I can tell you from doing Shakespeare in the park that when you're about to give your big line and some guy ten rows back pops a wine cork, it can kind of throw you off.

  33. Well! This makes me feel more vindicated about growing out my bangs.

Totally! Aren't 40 year old "quirky" women so "adorable?"

She works my last nerve. I still vomit when I think about her dumb Iphone commercial.

I still get her and the Bilson girl confused. They could be twins.

  35. All the Law & Orders film all over New York with no problems, so I don't think it would be that hard to focus. Geez, films and TV have been done for years around "regular" people within viewing distance. Actually, some of my best memories as a kid was watching Michael Douglas and Karl Malden in Streets of San Francisco. Talk about gawkers.

  36. I want to like her but she irritates me. Too much try in the "Look at me, I'm just a quirky individual" department.
Her behaviour must have been pretty off if the crew felt it necessary to compensate for it by giving away merchandise.

  37. This girl is as fake as Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston. She's a straight up entitled spoiled brat who has a career thanks to good ole Hollywood nepotism. Do not be fooled by her image or her PR.

  38. She...is not very friendly when off the set either. She goes to a gym I used to frequent and when regular people would walk up to her to say hi...let's just say she tended to be rather unpleasant. Sure she has a right to privacy, but would it kill her to smile at people once in a while?
