ReplyDeleteI can't get over how far Demi has fallen. And yes, young ones;Demi, Meg Ryan, and Julia Roberts were as popular then as Angelina, KStew and Jennifer Lawrence are now. They were on the cover of every magazine every week (this was before Al Gore invented the internet of course). She seemed SO confident and together and always talked of her sobriety in her interviews. I hope she can get it back.

If you find someone od'ing they should be held 5150 or under arrest depending on the situation. Wouldn't we have heard about this if it were Demi? I mean I already know more than I want to about her, I doubt its her.
i agree this is faye dunaway..she used to be A+ and she was in another blind item about her addiction was so bad she burned her hands..which is why she wore gloves at the oscar parties.
ReplyDeleteTo all the young'uns here, take it from this old 33-year-old hag (me), Demi was once firmly in A to A+ list territory. I don't remember all the details because I was a kid then but for a good solid while, she was in the professional and personal limelight front and center and some of the biggest movie that came out then featured her. The only ones I remember off the top of my head are Ghost and A Few Good Men but she was definitely A list if not A+ and I'd say almost on Julia Roberts level at some point. It didn't last, of course because aging actress have a tough time staying there unless they are Meryl - she made some pretty bad movie choices and fell through the cracks. But she did used to be A list for sure, absolutely no doubt about it.

ReplyDeleteShe seems more anorexic than a druggie. And she seems to have found a boyfriend. So not sure why it would be her. Another sad story of a great actress who fell victim to the Hollywood curse of self mutilation and really really bad movies. I love so many of her performances. Her face is so bad now though that I can't watch her.
Delete@gypsy, i don't think its tabloids. It could be a neighbor that overheard and helped to call the cops. it could be the maid telling her friends, who tell.... etc. it could be a lot of things.

@librariantobe 1n 1996, Demi was the highest paid actress, pulling down a never before $12 million for a role. She was box office hot after her roles in Ghost, A Few Good Men, Indecent Proposal and Disclosure. It wasn't unusual for actors to get this kind of cash, but it was for actresses. Unfortunately, a number of box office flops pretty much derailed her career.
ReplyDeleteJulia Roberts earned something like $22 or $25 million in 2006 for her role in that Wellesley movie - Mona Lisa Smile. That then became the highest paid role for an actress. This after a fairly steady output of movie hits. I'm not sure about Meryl's salaries - she's one of the best but in Hwood, it don't mean a thing unless it's box office ka-ching.
Anyway, there's the nmbers to support Demi's previous A standing. I'm not sure she ever really had enough talent or role selection smarts to hang in much longer than she did, but I did admire her guts for taking on the GI Jane training.
@Tigercat, yes, Indecent Proposal and Disclosure were the ones I couldn't remember; after that she had a string of flops like you mentioned GI Jane and A Scarlet Letter and she never really bounced back after that. And yes, Demi was never paid as much as Julia was and even now, an actress getting paid as much as Julia did in her peak is pretty rare - you'll only see it for franchise actresses if even them (JLaw for instance will be getting a ton for the Mockingjay movies, I'm sure). As far as I remember only Cameron Diaz at her peak and Reese Witherspoon have also gotten paychecks in the $20 million range. But getting paid that much is approaching Tom Hanks/Tom Cruise and some other A-list territory and so it was a big deal back then. I don't think even actresses like Sandra Bullock or Meg Ryan were ever paid nearly as much in their heydays. Meryl doesn't count because she's always been a character actor and never really does the blockbusters but of course she has longevity because of her talent so it doesn't matter how much she makes.

This is so not Faye Dunaway. Do people realize she is 70 years old? She looks amazing and healthy and doesn't need to work obviously, thanks to the body of work over her lifetime. And she isn't a former A list star, she is permanent A list for multiple nominations and wins. I don't think she has an Oscar, if not, she should.
ReplyDeleteDemi's men never seem to actually spend time with her, like it's a one night stand, and maybe a lunch date, then there's press and pap shots that they are together and suddenly the guy is denying ever dating her, says he's only a passing acquaintance. I can believe this, given her history and the way that her Mom was at the end of her life too. I think it's terribly selfish of her to be continuing that tragic legacy. Put on your big girl pants and think of your three daughters that are someday going to be mothers, menopausal, heartbroken and facing their own dark nights. Stop being such a selfish puddle Demi. Your a mother ffs!
ReplyDeleteI think mental illness plays a huge part in this. And at that point, using the word selfish is not appropriate. She needs help. Lindsay needs help. Amanda needs help. They are publicly self-destructing inside a system that fails to have a mechanism to step in and intervene.
ReplyDeleteHollywood is a known garbage disposal for sensitive performers and people easily get addicted and coddled and abused and then dropped like a hot rock when they are no longer useful.
With Demi's history, I can only feel sorrow for her. IMAGINE! All that money, all those years of beauty, success, acclaim, and this is how she is ending up. I doubt she is long for this world. And if she dies soon it will be alone, a destroyed relationship with her children and no one to comfort her because she is inconsolable. Her madness makes it so.
I for one question the inability of ANYONE to step in and help her. Even though I deeply understand the addiction cycle and the need for some to hit bottom, I think when a life is this seriously at risk, and there are so many resources available, can't someone do SOMETHING? It just seems so heartless to leave her alone to die. SHE IS ILL. WITH A DISEASE.
