Russell Brand Wanted Tom Cruise To Recruit Him For Scientology

Part of this is a bit with Conan, but I totally believe that Russell Brand said the things to Tom Cruise that he says he says while the pair filmed Rock Of Ages. The comedian says they he would drop hints to Tom like, "My life is confusing. Any ideas?" He also said that if a cult won't take him, he really wants to know why.

  1. Haha loved that he called it a cult!

  2. I would have loved it if Russell had infiltrated that damn cult!!

    1. Funny you should ask that today:

    2. Gayeld - wow, that's quite a story. There are people who have no emotion besides hate, fear, rage and frustration. It should be obvious to anyone Miscavage should be stopped. I still can't believe this cult has religious status.

    3. @__+__. It's pretty horrifying what the Sea Org members put up with. Jenna Miscavige Hill's (David's neice) book is just heartbreaking. Her parents sent her to a Scientology "boarding school" at 6 years old, at which point she was doing manual labor every day. She signed a billion year contract when she was around 7, joined the sea org around 12. By 21 she was ready to jump off a building rather than stay in. Thank God, she convinced her husband to blow with her and got out.

    4. Read the article- i just cant imagine any circumstance in which i wld put up with this bullshit. And as for this billion year contract, its laughable. Why dontt they just leave? Cos cant take them to court about billion year contract breach!!

    5. @auntliddy. At this point, most of the Sea Org is second and third generation Scientology. They don't know any other way to live, they believe that if they do leave they'll owe this massive debt for all the free "training" they've received over the years, they know that they're family still inside Co$ will be forced to disconnect from them. They're taught from a very early age that any negative thoughts they have about Co$ were pulled into them by their own bad actions/thoughts. In a word, they're brainwashed.

    6. Tom and Nicole's children were adopted from the co$ HQ in Clearwater.

  3. Hahaha!! The stories he would tell if he had infiltrated

  4. Brand asks too many questions and seems to be firmly planted in reality. Scientology has no place for people like that.

  5. I like Russell--yes, he's a nut, but he seems to have a good heart and doesn't take anything, including himself, too seriously. (If it came to that--pun intended--I'd much rather sleep w/him than John Mayer; at least Russell wouldn't crap on me, he'd probably make me laugh my ass off, and I'd get a new bathrobe out of the deal. Score! ;-)

    1. @Robin...co-sign..Russell may be a cad, but there's a genuine humanity within him that seems endearing. Love his blog.

  6. Robin,
    THAT!
    All of THAT!
I recognize that is filthy, but he's dirty hot and a thousand times less douchy

  7. I know he is a man-whore, but he is funny and smart and he seems like a good hearted man... and "I would bang him until my bits fell off" [thanks Michael K. for that poetic quote]

  8. I'm in the dirty love club as well! I love a man who can make me laugh, and Russell does that in spades.

  9. Liked the part where he says Tom was an 'utter joy' to work with, cuz he wants to continue being employed in Hwood :)

  10. I saw that last night and was impressed with how very smart and quick and eloquent he is. totally entertaining.

  11. Russell is so hot and has a certain charisma, but dang, he looks like he smells bad. Not a turn on.

I would have loved to read or hear whatever Russell Brand had to say about CO$! I'm sure it would have been hilarious. Shame that Tom didn't take the bait. I do think he's sexy in a wild man, free spirit, funny, witty way. He's attractive, Kind of like a really sweet, homeless cat that you want to take home, but you just know he's going to shred the furniture or pee on it.

  13. Oh, I just fell a little more in love with Russell. Yes, I know he's a bit of a slut, but there's just something so adorable about him. What you see is what you get with him. There was a time when I thought him to be rather superficial, and then Amy Winehouse died. He wrote the most touching tribute to her on his blog. He spoke so candidly about addiction and how it is a relentless struggle to stay clean. I admire that tenacity and drive to stay sober.

If anyone could bring down the mighty CO$, Russell could. Or a least, he could drive them even more bat shit crazy than they already are!

  14. @Anna: Now THERE'S an analogy!

I should probably back up a bit and say that Russell isn't per se my type in that I don't look at him and immediately want to drop my undies; he does, however, seem like someone who could be a whole lot of fun to hang out with and who basically has a good heart, even if he is the kind of boy slut who'd need to have his entire body dipped in The Weatherbeater before you'd let him near you. ;-) (Or is that reference too old for some of you?) Given the hypothetical situation of having to shag either him or John Meyer, it's definitely Russell all the way, for all the reasons given above.

(And now that I can't get the mental image of RB whipping out his little guy and taking a whiz on my couch out of my head, damn it... ;-)

  15. I love Russell.

To be fair, I believe Tom has always had a reputation as being fabulous/generous to work with. I remember a story Renee Z told about how generous he was to her (she was unknown and dirt poor) when they filmed Jerry Maguire.

  16. For those interested in bedding Brand, here's a tell-all interview by one of his conquests. Better do your yoga!

And if you don't already watch it, his FX show Brand X (Thursday nights at 10 or 11?) is amazing! He's quite the cunning linguist ;)

  17. I find him creepy and unclean.

  18. Russell Brand used to do a show at Edinburgh Festival regularly (I live in Edinburgh). I've seen him on the street a few times and sat at the next table in a restaurant - he is really sexy, a bit taller than you would expect (about 6'1" or 6'2") contrary to how he looks he doesn't smell bad and he always seemed to genuinely like the people he was with/whatever he was doing.

He's smart, funny, sexy and I've never heard anyone say he was unkind or nasty (unkind or nasty is a BIG turn off) - I'd give him the best 5 minutes of his life, maybe more if I could use my asthma inhaler.

    1. He is surprisingly tall huh!! I'm only 5'3 and he towered over me!

  19. Scientology controls its celebrity members by discovering (and then blackmailing with) the dirty secrets of their celebs. Russell Brand is pretty open about all of his dirty secrets -- they would never, ever be able to control him!

  20. @VIP: Thanks for the link (even if it is from the Sun...)! Nice to know he only looks scruffy, but is actually quite clean, although the perfume could be problematic depending on the scent. Sounds as if he's got the same kind of charisma that Bill Clinton & Billy Bob Thornton have--that ability to look you in the eye and make you feel like the only other person in the room, or at least the only one who actually matters; I've heard from women who say Clinton isn't their usual type but they would have gone there after they met him, so I'm guessing the same applies here as well. Pity I'm probably way too vanilla, though... :-)

  21. Charming, glib, superficial, many sexual conquests, no real relationships. The list goes on.....

Russell is very.... in love with himself. Like he absolutely has to be the centre of attention. It's exhausting to listen to. For me, that is. Noel Fielding is far more entertaining. I wish they worked together more.

  23. CO$ creeps me out so bad.I was being stupid once with some friends after a few drinks and we went on their website and filled out a 'personality test' that was supposed to tell me all my strengths and weaknesses.I being the genius I clearly am,entered my email address into the information form and they filled my inbox with emails for about 18 months trying to get me to go to a center.

My cousin worked on a movie with Tom in the 80's playing the supporting actor and he is meant to be a pretty nice guy but the whole Scientology thing just makes me sad.Waste of a decent human being.

  24. Russell would never be accepted to the Cult, he's too talky. That being said, I love the guy.

    ReplyDelete
  25. He would be terrible publicity for the CO$, of course. He's know for taking drugs and currently he's supposedly clean but if he were in the CO$ and he relapsed it would be yet more evidence that narcanon/CO$ don't have all the answers.

A real religion would take a famous person with all the problems and baggage they carry and embrace them, not worrying about the image of the church.

    Where is Shelly?

  26. So late, but how horrifying! @Agent It, does that mean that Isabel and Connor came from parents who might have loved and supported them -- Within the capabilities of any of those brainwashed people? Were they freely given up [again, I'm not sure any of those people have 'free will' left in them] or taken as 'sacrifices' to fill the need of superior upper echelon Scientologist[s]?

The murders and mysterious deaths have troubled me so much, but they usually involve adults who, albeit damaged, technically had a choice in their path in life.

    But 'child trafficking'???

  27. Oh, yeah, and I'm another one of those crazy Russell lovers! Funny, intelligent, honest, willing to throw caution to the winds -- Count me in!
