Madonna Writes A Letter

Apparently in the scheme of life, Madonna thinks she ranks higher than the President of a country. A president who is also the first female leader of that country. For the first time in four years, Madonna visited Malawi and one of the schools she funded. She also wrote a letter to the President of the country which is shown above. Filled with more spelling errors than on a morning on my site and with absolutely no respect for the President of the country to whom it is addressed, what it shows me is that I hope Madonna is not helping her kids with their homework and that they don't go around calling Presidents by their first name just because they happen to govern a smaller country in Africa.

  5. Slag on Madonna on all you want and question her motives, at least she's not out making sex tapes.

    ...well, not anymore.

  6. She won't sign her own name to her letters -- just block printing?

  7. Hope she didn't have three responsability to teach her kids to read

  8. I thought my handwriting was illegible, but she has me beat.

    Also, I HATE spelling errors.

  9. I do think it is kind of nice that she is sending a handwritten letter - who does that anymore? Maybe I'm trying to make it sound nice because it really does look like I wrote that letter.

    Bitch, please.

  12. Madonna is there doing some good for the girls of Malawi. Spelling errors or not, this was a very respectful letter. Enty is just on the rag.

    1. You don't address the president of a country by his Christian name. Major faux pas.

  13. My handwriting used to look like that when I was 5.

  14. I thought the handwritten letter was nice, too....

and I thought the handwriting was pretty good, for someone who surely never handwrites much.
I AM generally a bitch about spelling, but even I have been totally RUINED by computer spell-check--I recently tried to hand-write something and was confused about spelling a few words, to my surprise & horror!!!

    So it happens. meh.

(Not commenting about Madge's sincerity, or lack thereof.)

  15. She may speak with a fake English accent, but she sure doesn't spell with one.

  16. id love to read her txts

  17. I seriously haven't hand-written anything this long since high school. I'm a decade younger than Madge, and unless you continue to hand-write, the skill DOES disappear.

I'm surprised y'all seem to have good handwriting still. I haven't used it for more than a few sentences since the 1980's.
huh. maybe it's just me & Madge.

    1. @Libby. Nope, it's not just you. My handwriting is so bad these days. I cringe every time one of the 8 year olds wants my help with their cursive homework. I'm pretty sure their handwriting is already better than mine.

@libby: No snark here, but how do you take down notes and such? Or are you just talking about writing in cursive?
Completely off topic, really fun drinking game is challenging your friends to write the alphabet in cursive and drink every time they get one wrong. It turns into that scene from billy Madison "rirruto?" "Those are z's" "they look like r's to me"

    3. I wrote a note to excuse my 14 year old son (who, despite attending Catholic school) has the worst handwriting ever and they accused him of forging my note it was such a hot mess. Its like my fingers quit working once I turned 40! Now with this letter its almost written so poorly the spelling errors are less evident.

  18. Greg: I think so too. By the tone of the letter they have met before and have some deeper level of rapport than we are most likely not aware of.

And I'm very particular about errors so aside from anytime (which should be any time) I'm hard pressed to find a lot of spelling errors here. Granted maybe I cannot read her handwriting and it's early for me. I'm probably missing them and someone will let me know.

I don't think this is bad but I still think Madge is an entitled beyotch. Hey at least she knew to dump Goopy!

  19. Good Lawd. There's really no excuse for that, and I'm not even talking about the penmanship.

    @michelelala - GOLD, LOL!

My handwriting skills went down hill during college from having to write so fast. I guess that was in the olden days before everyone could afford a laptop.

Now I'm sad that a tacky letter is almost admired just because it's handwritten. When did that happen? :(

    ReplyDelete
  20. I can't even believe I'm about to say this - but perhaps she is on a first name basis and didn't intend that for public eyes? The note is nice, but I do think this woman has earned a bit more formality than Madge is offering... But again - the hydrangea hater isn't known for her grace :)

  21. There has to be one if us here who can interprett handwriting!!!!!!! Tell us her secrets- if she has ant, lol

  22. Empress---You missed the "...for more than a few sentences..." part of my comment^^.

Like I hand-write lists, or a quick note, addresses....but never in cursive. I only used cursive for school, and never used it for personal correspondence, before the internet OR for my signature.

By the time I went to college, it was all computers.

(This is much more detailed than anyone wanted to know, sorry.)

  23. Gawd, my penmanship is awful these days! I used to have lovely penmanship; got compliments on it all the time. I've been using a computer for only 3 years and I've noticed a difference already. :/

Count me in as one who thinks a handwritten note/letter is such a lovely gesture. It is becoming a lost art.

Oh! And what happened to 'thank you' cards? I've sent cards and gifts and received thank you's via...FB messaging. That infuriates me! You're on there playing Bejeweled or whatever, but you can't send out honest-to-garsh thank you notes?!

@Reese: perhaps they're trying to be green? Probably not, but maybe if you think of it that way you'll feel better about it? I always felt like a thank you note was best for gifts received in the mail if you weren't on a phone call basis with that person. That way the person can know you received it, but if you're close at all why not just pick up the phone and say, "hey there, thanks for the fruitcake (it's probably fruitcake)"

Huh, fair enough. My printer is annoying and doesn't work with my iPad so I often handwritten things like recipes that I get online, but I guess that's just a product of trying to juxtapose modern and not-so-modern technology. Also I take notes w a stylus on my iPad which I'm going to call handwriting, and it seems to me that doing that is becoming more popular since you don't need to carry papers around with you then.

  26. Maybe it's the teacher in me, but I only see a couple of misspellings, some poor use of grammar, and awful handwriting (used to that!). She uses the first name because she knows the President (met, spoke, interviewed) and she seems pretty polite, just asking for a meeting if there's time or if there's a project available, she'd be willing to collaborate. I don't really care for Madonna (a shame, I adored her when I was in HS) but this seems like throwing crap and seeing what sticks.

  27. Strange story short - dental work, dentist gives me super strength fluoride. I write daily, on computer. All of a sudden my spelling goes straight to hell. Many words not in spell check, words I use regularly. Spelled wrong! WTH!!

Stop fluoride, clean kidneys/liver, all is well. Study fluoride. Put med in trash.

  28. @Empress. No, they're not green. No way in hell they're green! LOL It's my nephews and their wives/fiancee's. I was so disappointed because I know my sister is big on that kind of stuff. I actually had to call to see if they received what I'd sent for engagements and Xmas. I'm out of state.

I guess I'm kind of old-fashioned. Huh, who woulda thunk...

  29. auntliddy--I've read casually about graphology. The problem is that this is one letter, and to get a good 'read', you have to have many examples, because handwriting is completely influenced my mood. Also drugs, being hungry, tired, hurried, etc. So while one letter isn't a good sample, and I am NO expert, I'll tell you what I see. It's so funny, how it's NOT surprising.

Madge is Madge in her writing. Emotionally driven, physically driven, able to manipulate, confident, organized, has a lot of common sense ....

But also self-aware/bordering a bit self-conscious, and a creative/eccentric type who is extremely high-functioning. She has a lot of ideas, and has many things going at once.

The slants (and the difference between beginnings and endings of sentences/paragraphs) in this letter really seem to show her trying to reign in herself, like remembering throughout to be on her best behavior here. Which might be explained because she's writing a President of a country, and trying to be humble.
It's a typical creative-type trait though to have insecurity bleed into your writing, no matter how successful you are.

The ONLY 'surprise' is that I don't see any typical examples of high sexuality (again, I could just be an idiot here). Of course, the sex thing WAS probably part of the sell.

jmo, for amusement only. Any REAL graphologists, feel free to correct me.

  30. They clearly knew one another prior to the election. It is a bit odd the letter wasn't signed but maybe she values her signature, and the fact that this letter was digitally copied and is now on the Internet, I don't really blame her.

  31. auntliddy--IF you even see this, I'm leaving for the day. If I get dressed down for my amateur note-sleuthing, I apologize in advance for my stupidity.

    XOX, all. Bis später.

  32. This handwriting was brought to you by the Catholic School system!!!
Seriously, I went to Catholic school for a while (Madonna got the full sentence) and its very hard to learn how to write cursive correctly when everytime you make a mistake the teacher hits your wrist with a ruler--true story. I hate cursive to this day. And I went in the 1980s--Madonna went to school in the 1960s, so i can imagine how strict it was then.

  33. It's not perfect and the handwriting sucks ass. It sounds like they are friends. Do we ask if Angelina is teaching the girls at her school not to be druggie rebellious whores? No. We say at least she is trying to do good works. All hail the gargoyle saint! So, same shit here.

  34. There has been quite a bit of discussion about removing the teaching of cursive handwriting from education; the main arguments being that we mostly use block print and keyboarding in our everyday lives. This is an interesting article that talks about why (the writer thinks) it's important to keep cursive handwriting.

    ReplyDelete
  35. She wrote a note to somebody she knows. Her personal writing isn't perfect and she made a couple of spelling errors. Doesn't that make her human?
There are so many things to criticize her about but I don't think this should be one of them.

  36. Madonna and the president are probably friends. I think anything handwritten is sweet. I am so old-school like that. I have a drawer full of stationary and thank-you notes. I think it's sad that writing is a lost art/necessity. I hand-write all thank-yous and the like.

My handwriting is tragically bad thanks to years in journalism. I much preferred handwriting in a notebook rather than recording when interviewing people or reporting on a town meeting. The need for speed is to blame for the downhill turn of my cursive. Unfortunately, my piano students have to decipher my crazy-ass writing. I tell them I'm preparing them for college, because college professors ALWAYS write sloppily as opposed to perfect-penmanship-type secondary school teachers.

  37. Madonna went to Rochester Adams High School. Some of my tennis rivals went there. They're evil

  38. This is a business letter. She's asking about collaborating on a project. I don't care if they are friendly, it's completely inappropriate for her to write so casually.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't think this is that big of a deal...to me she's polite and respectful and she's addressing someone with whom she's already familiar and on a first name basis. Meh.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Her spelling is "atroshious" too.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think it's a fake. Written to try to sound like her, no signature just some "stationery" and a sign-off that sounds like it was written by a non-native English speaker. All the exclamation points? Not her style. I bet it is being sold as a collector's item.

  42. Madonna's letter is way more legible than that rant Bieber wrote on his instagram last month. As long as she doesn't use "U," "ur," "LOL," "aiiight" or a ":)" symbol it's fine by me.

Though when I did read her finish off with "Great respect" I immediately heard the voice of Ali G in my head.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Moniker - I wouldn't be surprised if this is fake as well. Who knows?

    ReplyDelete
  44. @Mynerva: Agreed. Although Joyce Banda is a woman.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @Susan This totally seems to be fake. The letter is awful; her mispellings are (almost) worse than mine, but I don't speak English in my normal life; her treatment of the President is ludicrous...

It seems that someone told his/her retarded nephew to write a letter to a foreign PM and then signed it as madonna, but I wouldn't argue if someone tells me that her IQ (madonna's) is lower than ten.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I agree with libby...writing a letter is not something many people do and you forget how to do it. I'm 42 and have not hand written anything since high school. I recently tried because I'm currently without a printer...the results were not much better than Madonna's effort.

    ReplyDelete
  47. She probably didn't sign her name herself because it is too tough to spell it.

  48. I have no proof to offer, but this LOOKS just like Madge's handwriting; I've seen it before.

  49. Hey Barack,

I will be in DC the first weekend in June. Maybe you, Mich and the girls and I can catch dinner and a movie.

Would be lovely to play scattegories again in the red room.

    Love ya,

    G

Actually, I thought Madonna's letter was nice. If she had a personal relationship with her maybe calling her Joyce would be fine. Do Prince Williams close friends call him Prince?

I'm not a Madonna fan, but she has reportedly done great work for Malawi's girls. I disagree with you here ENTY.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I love that her name is printed. She's too good to sign her name! LOLOL

  51. I only see one misspelled word...geez!!

  52. FSP: make sure your criticism isn't misspelled before you post it. The word is spelled atrocious.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I read this as respectful and nice. Madonna is offering to give any help she can if the Pres can use her. By making it a handwritten note it's clear this isn't a business proposal, it is personal. Not done by a social secretary or manager or personal assistanr or whatever.
