Blind Items Revealed

February 1, 2011

#2 - This former A list movie actor. I mean he was A+ not that far back in the day is in talks to be the first celebrity on Hoarders. You cannot even get into his house despite the fact even Camille would think it was large.

Nicolas Cage

  2. what Brenda said.

Aside from the hair plugs, when exactly did Cage make the switch from "heart-throb" (tho he was never my type) to punchline?

  3. Not surprising.

If he can buy a pyramid tomb, an octupus, a pet shark, castles, an island, dinosaur skulls, etc., who knows what small stuff he's also buying? And blaming incompetent financial advisors instead of his own compulsive spending!

  4. maybe he is recreating the set from national treasure
or hiding his stuff from the its

  5. I don't believe this at all. I believe he is a hoarder, but I don't believe he would ever participate in the show. Unless they are paying $$$,$$$. Which they aren't.

@clatie: that's probably why this was written 2 years ago and there was no episode produced. Meh, would've been fun, probably

  7. Don't do it, H.I.!

  8. Brenda L said it, stuff, money, houses, cars, drugs, booze, jewels, designer clothes, mean NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING. You can't take it with you. Love, family, relationships, nature, spirituality, that's real life, where the real value is, at least to me.

  9. My favourite show! Makes me realize my kids rooms are not THAT bad.

  10. I agree that stuff shouldn't mean anything, but recall Madame Merle in Portrait of a Lady who says: "When you've lived as long as I you'll see that every human being has his shell and that you must take the shell into account. By the shell I mean the whole envelope of circumstances. There's no such thing as an isolated man or woman; we're each made up of some cluster of appurtenances. What shall we call our 'self? Where does it begin? Where does it end? It overflows into everything that belongs to us–and then it flows back again. I know a large part of myself is in the clothes I choose to wear. I've a great respect for things! One's self–for other people–is one's expression of one's self; and one's house, one's furniture, one's garments, the books one reads, the company one keeps–these things are all expressive."

  11. great documentary on Netflix about a family that had it all and loses it all during the documentary is Queen of Versailles a great cautionary tale about just because you can afford it today doesn't mean you can lose it tomorrow.

    1. Great documentary!! That woman was so trashy looking that not even all that money could buy her class or style. And going to McDonald's drive-thru in a chauffeured driven limo or Bentley?? Ridiculous!!

    2. @timebob & missinfo - I really liked that documentary, she was likeable even if she was clueless and she really seemed to love her husband although he seemed less enthusiastic about being old and married with young children when they were broke. I think he kinda blames her.

    3. That was a great documentary. The excess of it all was crazy. And the niece she adopted said it best about being poorer and happier

  12. I am betting the Declaration of Independence will show up.

  13. Good for him if it's true. It's not even just about having stuff. There are psychological issues that keep hoarders from throwing out anything and living amongst their own trash.

  14. I would SO watch Celebrity Hoarders!

  15. It would be fascinating to see what he hoards. Same with Kate Moss, who supposedly has kept and piled high every. single. last. thing. she's EVER be given. The designer freebies alone are probably jaw-dropping. She's the only other celebrity hoarder I've heard talk about.

  16. @Amy, INTERESTING! I would totally watch Celeb Hoarders, too. Every time I watch Hoarders, I clean a closet. Not kidding.

  17. Separately, as to Rose's comment about possible psychological issues -- it's known that Nic Cage suffers from agoraphobia. I have no medical background whatsoever but it does seem there might be a connection between being terrified (to the point of being incapacitated) by masses of people or enclosed public spaces and obsessively keeping all your shit in a private space away from any other person whatsoever.

  18. I just watched it last night, my god, 8 kids???? Limos to McD's??? Trashy dresser with all that $$ and then the hubby being a dick and isolating himself. Very interesting.
but to Nick, no wonder he keeps getting divorced.

  19. so that's where all the money goes...

  20. I would watch--I think the motivation for the Hoarders shows is usually some threat--the person is in trouble with their city, or their family--and they go on the show to get things cleaned up enough to get out of trouble, but from what I've seen of the visits after or the follow up episodes, not that many of the hoarders really change.

Not sure why a celeb would do it--if they can afford to get help.
One of the clean up shows did an episode for Lindsay Lohan--she had rooms of her house full of loot--mostly fashion--and they made her a beautiful organized closet--but I've read that she didn't keep it up and has storage units full of her crap now.

I don't think the TV shows do much for these people that's permanent--they do wonders for MY housekeeping tho. If I let things go a big, all I have to do is watch a weekend marathon and by God, I whip myself back in shape.

  21. I still love Crazy Cage. I just have a soft spot for him, it's hard to explain.

  22. Cleaning a closet right now. Keep. Sell. Donate. Feels good too. So many years of working with no time for this. What a mess! And lots of this doesn't even belong to me!! WTH?!?!?!! Agree most of hoarders are beyond help. Loving things and using people instead of loving people and using things.

  23. All of you saying stuff doesn't bring happiness, please prove it to me by providing me with all your stuff, money, cars, drugs, booze, jewels, designer clothes, etc. Thank you! :)

  24. Cage had to unload a lot of real estate. I guess a lot of his stuff used be in his various houses.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Don't forget, he's been super hard up for cash for quite a while to pay his tax bill.

  26. I think the last thing I liked Cage in was Raising Arizona. When I see that he's "starring" in something I immediately lose interest in it.

@ timebob - my BFF keeps telling me to watch that movie on Netflix. She got me a Roku a few years ago and every year for my birthday she gets me a year of Netflix & Netflix Streaming.

  27. When he had one of his houses here, he would go into town and drop thousands and thousands on scrimshaw stuff, bags and bags and bags of it. I think he is a really unhappy man, a few times he commented that this was his favorite house, no one bothered him, so calming, but his wife hated it hear constantly said how boring it was and not enough high end stores for her to go shopping at.

    ReplyDelete
  28. from what I hear, he has a HUGE comic book collection. There was another actress he was married to that said they kept a house only for his comics.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It baffles me that he still gets work

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think he only gets work because of his family relations, and his IS a name, whether we like it or not. The only movies he's good in are the ones where dialogue doesn't matter, or Raising Arizona style. The rest is because of his family. NO WAY could it be on talent alone. That being said, he probably does have HUGE issues around his stuff. I would never see him doing Hoarders, though. It's too revealing, too personal, especially for an actor (aren't their egos already huge?)

    ReplyDelete
  31. PS. I don't think the show would be 'real' anyway. It would be a sympathy show, and that's about it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. must be why when he and patricia arquette were married, they lived apart. I had always thought it was for their kids sake.

  33. I still adore my crazy Nick Cage though! He's still talented - but the public rep of being slightly loony has hurt his box office options.
He totally redeemed himself for me when he went on SNL last year as himself with Andy Samberg's spoof of him. He can still laugh at himself... That is such a great quality!
Hoarding though? It's a disorder. Just cleaning won't fix it, you've got to address the underlying reasons for it.

  34. I was amazed this weekend to realize that Valley Girl was filmed thirty (30) years ago (1983)! How time flies.

  35. I have a friend who's a hoarder. It's a sickness. You could clean their house up, and they'll just fill it with junk once again. Hoarders need therapy.
