Blind Item #4
This B list foreign mostly television actor in his home country is probably a C- lister here despite his great role on one of the hittest cable shows out there right now. When our actor got his start he had a huge hit in his own country and then crashed and burned until his US hit now on the air. Why did he crash and burn? Apparently he decided he wanted to remain faithful to his wife and turned down lots of great roles because it would have involved casting couch time.
Peter Dinklage! Kidding. I just like the thought of him turning down the casting couch :)
ReplyDeleteIs it sad that is who I immediately thought of? Seriously.
DeleteAnd the fact he's from Jersey
DeleteWhoever this is, AWESOME. Please reveal!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking the show is foreign too? Not Downton Abbey? That's the only one I know of, but I watch nothing.
ReplyDeleteHittest?
ReplyDeleteNaw, it doesn't have to be a foreign show. I re-read. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteHugh Laurie?
ReplyDeleteDamian Lewis?
ReplyDeleteThat was my first thought.
DeleteMe as well!
DeleteYes! Make me love him more
DeleteDavid Morrissey, the guy who plays The Governor on The Walking Dead?
ReplyDeleteThis is who I immediately thought of as well. Saw him on the Talking Dead (Hardwick's follow up talk show) and he seemed like a classy guy.
DeleteNot Damian Lewis he's a known cheater...
ReplyDelete:(
DeleteSo sad. Can you give us details, please!?
DeleteWait---He just got killed off, but Dan Stevens (Matthew Crawley), is married w/ 2 kids IRL, according to IMBD. He is certainly pretty enough to get the bad kind of attention. He's my guess, because that's the show i watch. haha.
ReplyDelete@MISCH As is Hugh Laurie
ReplyDeleteLOL @ VIP (Peter's USA born, but that's still a funny image)
ReplyDeleteDownton Abbey isn't cable, it's PBS here in the States
Hot right on cable:
Game of Thrones - on fire
Walking Dead - on fire
Sons of Anarchy - still pretty hot
Dexter
Andrew Lincoln - The Walking Dead.
ReplyDelete/thread
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau? I know he is very well known in Denmark, where he is from. Also, he seemed on his way to becoming big in the early 2000's then his career seemed to Peter-out stateside...
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or in the first season did he remind anyone else of Prince Charming from shrek
Delete@disco I totally did too! Glad I wasn't the only one. My husband thought I was weird..lol
DeleteSame here! An eerie resemblance! I do love the actor though...so good in Headhunters.
DeleteWhomever this is, good for him.
ReplyDelete"Hittest cable shows" does not suggest the likes of Downton Abbey (which airs on PBS in the US). I don't have cable, but: Game of Thrones? Mad Men? The Walking Dead? Breaking Bad?
Joseph Fiennes?
ReplyDeleteShakespeare in Love - big hit. Disappeared. Traveled through India. Went back to the UK. Did some miniseries and movies.
Back on US soil with American Horror Story?
It's Andrew Lincoln.
ReplyDeleteThe role in his own country was Egg on a BBC show called "this life"
Like the Andrew Lincoln guess...thought of him first, as well!! Hes got the odd, movie, but mostly TV. He's worked consistently though, so I'm not sure that would be considered crashing and burning.
ReplyDeleteI love this guy, whoever he is.
ReplyDeleteI like Andrew Lincoln from Walking Dead but his IMDB shows very steady work for many years.
ReplyDeleteAre there any foreign actors on Mad Men? Lane Pryce is the only one I can think of and he's (SPOILER) no longer onthe show.
If you look at his imdb you'll see that after this life he only had bit parts really.
ReplyDeleteNothing substantial until like, 5 years after this life fell off the air.
Then America
Then walking dead.
It's Andrew Lincoln, deal with it.
He's been in far more than bit parts in the UK (2 series of teachers which was funny as!, afterlife, strike back plus he was in love actually)
DeleteMost series in the UK aren't as long a run as US ones we have maybe 6,12 or sometimes 15 episodes a season so maybe that's where you're getting bit parts from I dunno plus before 97 we only really had 4 main channels on tv to watch (not counting those with sky etc) barbaric I know xD
@Suck I think you've got it!!!! Andrew Lincoln''s been married since 2006. I might try to "casting couch" him if I were a producer. OT, but I would definitely casting couch the shit out of Joe Manganiello
ReplyDeleteThis ^^^
DeleteIs it gettin hot in hurr?
DeleteNikolaj Coster-Waldau who plays Jaime on Game of Thrones.
ReplyDeleteMarried and had a show over in Denmark called "The Left Wing Gang" and did a few movies???
Izzie----FACTS have been plotting against me my whole life. Way to point out I'm a dumbass!
ReplyDeleteKidding, dear. I forgot it was on PBS, since I watched all but the last 2 episodes on Hulu. DT 'felt' cable, I guess.
I can't participate in ANY TV blinds. *pout*
That's it. I'm starting "Mad Men". I may be away a few weeks.
Call me if Lilo OD's.
Good for this dude!
ReplyDelete@Libby, I do that *ALL* the time! I'll have this whole thing worked out and them someone will point out one small but crucial detail that destroys the whole thing like a Jenga tower. (Also, I stream everything, too - I only know it's PBS b/c I accidentally leaked S2 stuff to a friend who watches it on PBS and I had no idea the US was a full season behind - bad friend!)
ReplyDeleteDicculus- Andrew is that you? LOL!
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad Libby, I can't answer them either. We don't get and of the premium channels at all.
LOL @ Sherry, first thing I thought, too. Shutting my mouth right now.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Stephen Moyer of True Blood for this. He's British and appeared mostly in tv.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to think this is Andrew or Nikolaj. Does anyone remember Andrew from Love Actually? Nikolaj as been working stateside for a while now--do his failed shows like New Amsterdam count?
ReplyDeleteAw, Izz, I just want to know *one* TV blind subject, darnit.
ReplyDeleteStreaming has enabled me to wait to get hooked after a show's proven worthy. I think I have early-cancellation PTSD, probably from the Arrested Development debacle. I just HAPPENED to see every episode of that show, from the start. Never happens, I LOVE IT--then BOOM--cancelled. Grrr.
The ONLY reason I felt comfortable spoiling Matthew Crawley's exit is because it's been everywhere in the news, even more than the one before him.
I am on the Nikolaj train too. He's been married for 15 (maybe even more) years and seems very faithful to his wife. They have two daughters.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what his fame and career were like Denmark but it seems like he's been looking for his US breakout role and finally got it with GoT.
So does that mean they finally succumbed to the casting couch or just got a lucky break?
ReplyDeleteHow does the whole casting coach thing work anyway? Was it male producers/casting or female ones? Does it matter in Hollywood? If I attempted a showbiz career I'd fail immediately coz I'd never want to do any of this kind of stuff.
ReplyDeleteI'm leaning to Nikolaj as well. Lincoln isn't a bad guess but wouldn't Strikeback be considered a decent sized hit? And playing Jaime Lannister is definitely a "great role".
ReplyDeleteGreat for him! Nice to hear about this kind of thing. But how sick and digusting that this is the state of things in Hollywood. What the f Hollywood? You suck. Can't there be some kind of legilation, laws, witnesses, video taping? Isn't this a huge law suit, like class action if you get the S.A.G involved????? How the hell is this bullshit still going on in this day and age? I know how and why, but it needs to stop. An actor shouldn't have to choose between being faithful to his wife and having a career. The whole thing is an outrage. An outrage I tell you!
ReplyDeleteI'd really like to know who this is so I can freely adore him. I'd go with Nicolai over Lincoln since he's been married longer, and that's the feel I get from this blind.
ReplyDeleteWhoever it is, we love him! Libby - who got killed off?
ReplyDeleteLibby, I believe Dan Stevens left by choice so they killed him. He wants to be the next big thing in Hollywood.
ReplyDeletewhat a nice blind!
ReplyDeleteI don't want this to be Andrew Lincoln because I want to think he is secretly gay and would leave his wife for me. I have been in love with him since he I was a teenager and he was Egg.
ReplyDelete@DiscoBitch - cool name and nice to see another Brit.
No clue but more power to him!
ReplyDeletegah.. since I was a teenager
ReplyDeleteIf its Nikolaj, I just love him even more. He was in an amazing Swedish movie called Headhunters. It has subtitles but its a truly remarkable film and see the original before Hollyweird ruins it.
ReplyDelete@mrjack I loved Andrew Lincoln as Egg and as Simon in Teachers. The accent for Rick was a shock at first.
ReplyDeleteNice to read about someone not succumbing to the casting couch.
I'm from Denmark and I'm absolutely 100% sure this is Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. He had a HUUUGE breakout role in Nattevagten in 1994 and was expected to be a huge star (and could have been in Denmark) but he chose to go to Hollywood and has really been struggling to catch a break (until GOT). He talks a lot about it in interviews over here. And he's been happily married forever.
ReplyDeleteMads MIkkelsen? The new hannibal lecter?
ReplyDeleteWhichever fellow this is , good for him.
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that one of the things that makes a man attractive to me, and others I'm sure, is that he is faithful to his mate. It's a lust you would never act on, cuz'it would ruin it forever.
And men, poor souls, try to figure out how women think!
Please reveal this and then let's make this guy famous the old-fashioned way, by popular acclaim. (How revolutionary!)
ReplyDelete@ThatLady - loved Teachers but even moreso This Life. Do you remember in the mid 90s, the fact it had a gay sex scene was a massive, massive big deal at the time. Of course being a gay myself I watched every episode.
ReplyDeleteI watched the first episode of TWD but zombies aren't my thing especially after it seemed like a rip off of 30 Days Later... and AL with an American accent? I'll take it but prefer his posh voice.
Has anyone thought of an actor from Spartacus? It is filmed in New Zealand and most of the actors are from Australia.
ReplyDeleteIt's unusual to read a blind about someone remaining committed to their marriage. Thanks for sharing this one, Enty. Please reveal so we can go support the shit out of this dude's work.
ReplyDelete@MISCH--whoa whoa whoa what do you mean my man Damian is a "known cheater"? I think I might cry. Details, please?
ReplyDelete@MrJack I had This Life on VHS and now have it on DVD. I loved Ferdy and Lenny and Ferdy's character development was great. It was a fantastic cast in a fantastic show. Andrew's British accent is nicer and I love his role in Love Actually. I also like to see Jack Davenport doing well in Smash (while it lasts) as he was awesome in Coupling. I watched the This Life reunion but it wasn't as good as the original show.
ReplyDeleteI do like Walking Dead though I hate horrors and sometimes have to look away for the gory stuff :)
@ThatLady - There was a reunion???? How did I miss that? My favourite character was Anna - She was one hot Scottish bitch. I've seen her in a few things but I don't watch a lot of UK TV any more because I download everything and never know what's coming up (I can't remember the last time I actually saw and advert for something).
ReplyDeleteThe only UK shows I watch are (embarassingly) Downton Abbey, Doctor Who and (not embarrasingly) Miranda and Threesome, which is hilarious but only 7 episodes a year is ridiculous.
Jack Davenport is still sexy and I (typically for a gay) LOVE Smash but it's been cancelled so like you said, I'll just have to enjoy him and it while I can. Oh, that reminds me, the guy who played Dev was also Zaf in Spooks which I also used to love but the last 2 series were shit.
I watch too much TV :(
ReplyDeletePut me down for the Andrew Lincoln guess. Good for him. Its so weird to hear him talk not as Rick. Blew me away when i first heard him.
ReplyDelete@mrjack It was called This Life + 10 and it was nice for nostalgia reasons but just not the same.
ReplyDeleteI like Doctor Who (recently started watching again after switching off due to Amy. New girl is good so far), Miranda and Threesome too. I watch a ton of shows, possibly too many. Am watching a Jack Davenport show with my brother at the moment called Ultraviolet. It's alright but a bit weird, a vampire show that didn't use the v word.
I've only watched most of series 1 of Spooks but intend to watch more. I already know a spoiler for Rupert Penry Jones' character but he's awesome in Whitechapel and Silk so I'm sure I'll enjoy it when he shows up on Spooks.
@ThatLady - I seem to think every guy on telly is sexy but Rupert is also added to the list. He has a full-on full-frontal nude scene in Spooks. Which you really have to try and watch. It gets a lot better after series 3 - the characters change a lot and it was best when Hermione Norris and RPJ were in it. Talking of Hermione, another UK show I love - Cold Feet. This is like 6 degrees of TV separation. I liked Amy and Matt Smith but missed Catherine Tate and David Tenant. It took me a while though. I think I'm gonna like Clara and her story of keep coming back to life but we shall see. Apparently this is Matt's last year so I'll have to get used to yet another Doctor.
ReplyDelete@mrjack Cold Feet is always on those best shows lists but I never tried it.
ReplyDeleteMartha is my fave of the new companions on Doctor Who and Nine is my fave Doctor. I did like Amy until she started killing people just to find the Doctor. Catherine Tate was awesome as Donna, just thinking of her story makes me sad. I'm in Ireland so we get a lot of UK stations which just leads to me buying shows on DVD. Not good for the budget.
Have you seen RPJ in Whitechapel or Silk? Both shows have good casts and are great. He's a cop in one and a barrister in the other.
@ThatLady - Nine was Christopher Ecclestone right? I liked Martha, she was also in Torchwood (same character) which was F-ing amazing until they teamed up with a US cable station and ruined it. She's in The Carrie Diaries on the CW now which I'm ashamed to admit I watch (I watch almost anything and I liked SATC) but she's a reeeally bad actress in it. I think as she's got an English accent, people can't tell.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered what TV was like in ROI, do you make a lot of your own shows or is it mostly UK and US stuff? I thought about watching Whitechapel and Silk but there are so many police/legal dramas I can't cope. The English legal system also seems boring to me with all the stuffy gowns and wigs but I might check Silk out if RPJ is good in it.
Maybe the ones casting were all men and he (whoever it is) didn't want to swing that way?
ReplyDeleteThe casting couch is used by any producer, male or female, who is attracted to any actor, male or female, and uses it as a "condition" for being considered for a role.
ReplyDeleteI read a post on another site about a fairly high profile Broadway musical theater star who, even though straight, succumbed to a male producer's casting couch because he was desperate for a role. Wasn't a pleasant experience for either and the actor ended up pretty messed up afterward (although the role launched his career).
Yeah, it's a heinous practice, but it is still par for the course in Hollywood (and apparently Broadway).
@Sandy - who was the Broadway guy?
ReplyDelete@mrjack You're right with Christopher Eccleston. He was the ninth one. I don't like SATC at all so Carrie Diaries doesn't appeal, it'd be nice to see Freyma doing well out of it though. I suppose it means no more Law & Order UK.
ReplyDeleteIreland has four of its own channels and some homegrown stuff. Those channels do show US and Australian shows. The UK channels we get obviously have their stuff but also US shows like Suits, NCIS, Law & Order original and SVU. Revenge is aired on Irish and UK stations as is Vampire Diaries. Our best known soap is Fair City sometimes called Fairly Shitty. It's not awful but suffers by comparison. I have hundreds of DVDs and there was only only one Irish show I bought which was Father Ted and even that was picked up by a British channel first. I've two Irish films but our film industry is small. There is one good show called Love/Hate which has done quite well. Another recommendation from my brother that I haven't gotten around to watching yet. Ireland has its own version of The Voice and shares The Biggest Loser with the UK. They do have a show called Operation Transformation about weight loss which they've managed to sell the format for. The USA didn't want it because there are no eliminations or winners. Its a good success story for one of our shows to sell abroad though.
Aidan Gillen. Bailesh on game of thrones but was Stuart on Queer as Folk UK.
ReplyDelete@Ms. P Aidan was fantastic on Queer As Folk. Can't imagine anyone else having Stuart's swagger.
ReplyDeleteI think he was on The Wire in the US too (never made it past episode 1).
@thatlady. Stuart was soooo sexy. Yum. It kills me seeing him Baleish.
ReplyDelete@Ms. P I adored his just don't give a fuck attitude. I mean he'd be an awful friend but as a character he was amazing. Vince is my favourite but Stuart is a very close second. I still ship them even though they weren't canon.
ReplyDelete@ThatLady - just looked up Love/Hate and it looks pretty cool but I'll bet I have a hard time finding it for download. Also looked up Ireland and I am a complete ignoramus. I didn't realise there were only 4-5 million of you guys. I guess it's hard to get good funding for a (relatively) small market.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Freema is any worse an actress than the others but her character is really english if you know what I mean. It's all DAHling and SWEETheart which is probably what the director wants. I'm not sure if it will help her career as the show is probably getting cancelled.
I LOVE Suits, I think it's got a great hook and the Donna character is the best + Gabriel Macht... nuff said. I also like the Good Wife (loved Julianne Margulies since ER) so I guess I do like legal dramas but I can't with all the different CSIs, and Law and Orders, and NCIS and all the other accronyms of shows that have been going on forever.
Vampire Diaries is a guilty pleasure of mine. I think I have a split personality. One part 15 year old girl, one part 30 year old nerd.
@mrjack I recommend Love/Hate if you get the chance to download it. They're currently filming series 4 and I can't wait for it to be back on. I think it's probably the best home made drama we've had on Irish tv.
Deleteseries 1 & 2 may be available on Hulu?
@mrjack-I have the same syndrome-I loove VD (lol)
DeleteQueer as Folk UK was amazing. I tried to watch the US remake but it was a no go. I can't believe that Nathan the twink is now Charlie Hunham in Sons of Anarchy - he looks like a completely different person.
ReplyDeleteHold up! Jax was a twink?
Delete@mrjack We are a very small country indeed. Nowhere is more than a few hours from anywhere else. I like it but then I'm biased.
ReplyDeleteI'm not exactly in Vampire Diaries target audience either but that doesn't stop me enjoying it.
I really like Suits too. There are great characters and it's pretty evenly split between guys and girls. Donna is awesome and you wouldn't want to get on Jessica's bad side.
Most of my boxsets are of American shows including some spinoffs but what I like about the procedurals are the team dynamics.
@mrjack Charlie was so young in Queer as Folk. I bought the US version S1 but never watched it. I tried Sons on a recommendation (my brother and I trade shows and agree to give shows a try if the other tries one of our recs) but there were no likeable characters other than Jax so I only watched two eps.
ReplyDeleteHave you heard Charlie's "London" accent in Green Street. It's god awful.
Love the Andrew Lincoln - The Walking Dead guess. I'm on board with that.
ReplyDeleteJohnny lee miller, elementary?
ReplyDelete@ThatLady - Ireland doesn't look that small on maps. Short and fat as opposed to long and skinny like GB and there's 60 million of us. I didn't realise we were so over populated until I went to Sweden - 5 times bigger with just 9M. It was beautiful, even in Stockholm on a busy day you could breath and the countryside is amazing. I imagine Ireland to be similar. I have to go to London once a month and I loathe it, especially the tube.
ReplyDeleteYou and you're brother seem like me and my sister. We get into the same shows and switch box sets. I haven't watched SOA because it doesn't appeal and Green Street I had to look up and when I found out it was about football hooligans, I realised why I never watched it. I get what you're saying about proceduals, it's got be all about the characters rather than the cases which is why I don't really watch them until someone forces me to try it out because of some amazing DRAMA they've just seen happen which they want to share. I used to be really in to Bones because of the characters but it's been dragging on to long now.
Re: Suits, Jessica will always be Anna Espinosa to me. Do you know what I'm talking about? :)
@ethorne (Emily Thorne? - what are you plotting?) - yep google image him he was a real young pretty boy played a 15 year old having sex with Aidan Gillen - so scandalous at the time.
ReplyDelete@mrjack-Mwah haha!
DeleteI'll have to Google that.
I don't watch Suits, but I just finished watching the whole thing on Netflix, so I know what you're talking about.
@ChrisO - I don't exactly pay to download stuff. I'm not a thief, I pay for a pretty hefty Sky package but I can never wait for anything so I download it the day after it airs in the states. It all ends up on UK TV at some point so I don't feel bad about it. Also, if I really like a show I buy the Bluray boxsets so it's not like I'm not contributing.
ReplyDeleteI think ITV picked up the distribution rights to Love/Hate so maybe it'll air here.
Ah ok, if you have Sky then I'm sure it'll be on one of those channels at some stage!
Delete@ethorne - That has to be one of my most worn out boxsets. I loved that show and was sooo annoyed when it went off the air.
ReplyDeleteThis kind of stuff just pisses me off. If the guy's talented, give him the job!
ReplyDeleteIs Joe Dempsie married? He was huge in Skins and then kinda tapered off. I was very excited to see him or GoT.
ReplyDeleteSimon Baker?
ReplyDeleteWait wait wait Rick is BRITISH! shutuppppppp
ReplyDeleteThe Aussie from Nip/Tuck?
ReplyDeleteI hear Neal McDonough is the U.S. version of this blind.
ReplyDeleteI hear Neal McDonough is the U.S. version of this blind.
ReplyDeleteJax Teller. 100%
ReplyDeleteJax Teller. 100%
ReplyDelete@mrjack To me Gina is Zoe from Firefly. I googled the character name in your post. I've never actually watched Alias although I've heard good things.
ReplyDeleteRe: Charlie's dodgy accent, I've never seen the film just YouTubed a clip because someone told me how bad it is. His own accent would have done fine but they had him attempting cockney rhyming slang.
What about the British guy from Episodes
ReplyDeleteWhat about the British guy from Episodes
