Blind Item #1
This aging former A list celebrity and former A list singer (calling it singing is a stretch) and former A list reality star is now a just someone who would like another chance. Talking to waiters the way she did last week though is not going to help. When the waiter came to her table to ask if she would like anything to drink she turned to the waiter and said, "I will say this once. I don't talk directly to waiters. No offense. Just talk to my assistant please. Thanks." She always seemed so sweet on television. Kooky but sweet.
Lisa Kudrow?
ReplyDeletePaula Abdul?
ReplyDeleteI think u got it!!!
DeletePaula Abdul?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking Paris (aging for her ho-stroll), until the kooky but sweet....HMMM......
ReplyDeleteScherzinger
ReplyDelete@Rusty- jinx I'll have a coke please ;)
ReplyDeleteDING DING
ReplyDeletePaula Abdul--I think it was a tie!!!! YAY!
DING!
Oh, pretty please reveal who the entitled twunt is!!
ReplyDeleteYep, @rusty and @lotta got it!!!! Whenever I see Paula Abdul, this is the first song I think of. Man, was In Living Color a good show!
ReplyDeleteWhy would you act like that to a waiter unless you just really love the taste of spit and ball sweat in your food?
ReplyDeleteWhat a bitch. I've never worked as a waitress, but I really do believe that you can tell everything you need to know about a person's personality by how they treat waiters/waitresses.
ReplyDeleteEwwwww @ ball sweat on food
ReplyDeleteJason, thank you!
ReplyDeleteShe's such a cold-hearted snake.
ReplyDeleteJason, for the record, I was a server for 17 years, and I never ONCE saw a waiter taint even the worst customer's food.
ReplyDeleteAnd I worked at a Chi-Chi's in a college town for a while. Total desperation, total abuse factory.
Any food employee who would actually do that? Wouldn't last long anywhere. Waiters take that shit personally, don't like the profession tainted.
See? I quit years ago, and I'm still defending it.
Truly though, waiters usually believe in karma, for when they themselves eat out.
@libby, have you ever read the Cracked article The 5 Worst Things You See While Working in Fast Food? I worked at BK in high school and never saw any of this but holy cow, terrifying article. (Obv not about waiters, thank goodness.)
DeleteTalk about condescending! EVERYONE deserves respect and common courtesy. A little manners goes a long way!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Libby on her comment at 7:28am. People in the business may fantasize about doing that, but I've never met anyone who actually followed through. As Libby said, karma, folks. =)
ReplyDeleteI've had a couple of friends who say they did it to customers that treated them like something they'd wipe off their shoe. I never worked in food service so I don't have any firsthand knowledge, but why take that chance?
ReplyDeleteI so don't get the "don't speak to me" crap. If some famous person said that to me, I'd be shitty and KEEP talking to them - but I'm cunty that way :)
ReplyDeleteYAY, Reese noticed me! Hi, fellow restaurant-type.
ReplyDeleteI think the vein of 'karma' comes from being reliant on the tip culture. It gets so ingrained...'just be good, good things will happen....'
J-Lo will not speak directly to "staff".....
ReplyDeleteIf its Paula and the waiter said, "Be nice to me and I'll bring you a Xanax-tini," she woulda let him sit in her lap and talk all night.
ReplyDelete@Count, hahaha!!! True!
DeleteI take J-Lo back. I overlooked the part that says she seemed sweet.
ReplyDeleteOne of the "chefs" on Hell's Kitchen last night said some incredibly jackass stuff about waiters on last night's ep. I sure hope that comes back to bite him in the ass in a big way.
ReplyDeleteBack in the 80s my dad was a bartender and a group of guys came in and were rude to all the staff so my dad dipped his penis in their pitcher of beer. My dad was kind of a jerk LOL.
ReplyDeleteMmmm Penis-Ale. I snickered whilst reading your comment.
DeleteRusty. LOL. I worked as a bartender for a few years but I didn't have to deal with a lot of rudeness becasue where I worked we could be rude right back. But a coworker of mine did slip some visine in a man's drink because he was rude to her.
ReplyDeleteIzzie, to be fair, that article is anecdotes. And of course anecdotes prove there are always exceptions.
ReplyDeleteEveryone has a 'I totally know a guy who spit in food, or SAYS he did..' story. And maybe he did. But if anyone saw him, they'd narc him out, he'd be GONE.
I would only believe a spitting or tainting anecdote from someone with a terrible work history, and/or had only done one restaurant job for a short time.
Owners, OTOH, and restaurant managers? 90% are total assholes who don't give a whiff about customers or karma, only about the bottom line. They wouldn't spit, but food off the floor? Maybe, because they don't have to look you in the eye. Waiters have to be your friend for a few hours.
Managers are always such dicks!
DeleteVisine can kill a person. Hilarious!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.snopes.com/medical/myths/visine.asp
If this is remotely possible to be true, remind your friend.
I worked in the service industry for 20 years and I could tell some tales. Some "mishaps" were accidental and others were sheer spite.
ReplyDeleteLong story short, be nice to the people in charge of what is going in your mouth. And be kind with what is coming out of it. People making $2.13 an hour, can only put up with so much.
Could be J Lo. When camera's are on her she pretends to be sweet and down to earth, but I suppose Paula is a better fit.
ReplyDeleteI gotta go, everybody. I'm not ignoring you. See you (maybe) later! XOX
ReplyDelete@Izzie - well, thanks for posting that article. We're going out for dinner tonight and unfortunately, I can't forget what I just read. :( We're both always polite to the wait staff however so perhaps we'll be spared.
ReplyDeleteAnd I almost always use the 5 second rule at home.
I think Paula Abdul is right, how disappointing, she always did seem drugged up but sweet on AI.
ReplyDeleteI worked as a waitress when I was in high school and not once did I see anybody do anything to the food and I'm talking about a bunch of high school kids with zero patience. But still be nice, it's a hard job
Paula Abdul. I remember one of her video's she was getting heavy and the stretched it out to make her look thinner. It was the biggest joke. Calling her a singer is also a HUGE stretch.
ReplyDeleteNot Paula Abdul. Waited on her many times. Also not J-Lo, waited on her many years ago when she was with then P-Diddy at his mom's birthday party. Also incredibly nice, overly nice actually. My experience has been the bigger the star the nicer they are.
ReplyDeleteNice of you to say
DeleteMy experience in the service industry as well was the same. The bigger the star, the better they are. On an offside, many years ago when I was in uni and waited tables, American customers were the best especially compared to the Brits. Respectful and tipped.
Deletedefinitely Paula Abdul
ReplyDeleteAnother waitron here and we never did anything to people's food. But once I served the same drink to a redneck (it was race weekend in CLT ya'll!) in a different glass and they never knew the difference. Like someone can really tell if it's Jack in that Coca-Cola.
ReplyDeleteNever any reason to start out rude to a customer and ALSO waiters should be kind to customers no matter what they look like. I once garnered a $60 tip on brunch from 4 Hells Angels types. They were a load of fun actually.
@Izzie - Thanks for the Cracked link. I didn't know about that site and I love that kind of stuff. I've already spent an hour bouncing from one article to another!
ReplyDeleteJlo
ReplyDeleteI used to work at a Los Angeles hot spot, waited on Paula, j-lo, Brit Brit, Christina, posh spice... All were super nice, had extended conversation with me and left nice tips (or the person who paid did)
ReplyDeleteThe only two people I've personally waited on that refused to talk to me are Tyra banks and Kimora lee
I can't comment on this because I'm too important.
ReplyDeletemy assistant will be sending a comment later, though. ;)
Haha! :)
DeleteHahaha! @annabella
ReplyDeleteI never did anything to anyone's food in my server days BUT my friend told me she got so pissed off at an abusive customer once that she took a dirty rag and put it on top of his food for a few seconds, took it off then served it to him. That was over twenty years ago and she still says he deserved it.
ReplyDeleteHow about Jessica Simpleton?
ReplyDeleteBitch please. Good luck keeping that m^tha drink full, oh and good luck keeping your food off the floor too. Shit, didn't this hoe watch Waiting?
ReplyDeleteTrue, I've not seen people mess with food much but we will ignore your sorry a** and then auto grat you.
Delete"Like someone can really tell if it's Jack in that Coca-Cola."
ReplyDeleteAs a big Jack drinker, I can. It TOTALLY tastes different from other whiskeys. :-)
Not a restaurant, but when I was 17 I worked at an A-Plus mini-market. I usually worked w/ the assistant mgr. I once watched him put a hot dog on the ground and step on it before serving it to a bitchy regular customer. But I'm happy to hear that stuff doesn't typically go down at restaurants.
ReplyDeleteJ Lo makes the most sense.
ReplyDeleteIf I were the waiter, I would have looked around and said "Oh well, that works out great. I don't listen to sh*tty singers."
I seriously hate people like this.
I've never been a waiter but I don't know if I could bite my tongue and not say something. I'd have to say "I'll say this once, every time you say that you increase your odds of having someone spit or worse into your food. Ask your assistant to use her imagination."
ReplyDeleteI was a waitress/cook, and we never did anything to anyone's food either, but we talked shit about them in the kitchen for sure.
ReplyDeleteI was a waiter and I did it. I did the worst thing to a big assholes food anyone could imagine. i was 17 at the time maybe 16 but it was much worse then spit but not as bad as pee or poo but only something girls can do. it was a heavy flow day too.
ReplyDeleteThis is totally Paula Abdul, Easy Peasy!
