The family of Amy Winehouse has signed on to participate in a documentary about the late singer's life. Asif Kapadia will direct the movie which will use lots of unseen footage, home movies and unreleased songs to combine with what we have already seen previously. The family says that Asif's vision was the first they had really liked and that they loved what he did in the movie called Senna about the F! driver who was killed back in 1994.
God I miss her voice....

Idk, personally i was never a big fan of hers at all. I think she had a nice voice, but that was kinda it, good talent.
ReplyDeleteI personally do not think she should have been added to the list of 27.... she didnt have the fame and exposure they did. Im not saying she wasnt popular into her own right, but not to the level of the 27 group
I miss her. Wish she could have overcome her addictions. Her music was the soundtrack of my early twenties.

Now I love documentaries bc I always learn stuff. Often better than scripted film.
Documentaries can be full length feature films, short films, one episode of a documentary television series, or a television miniseries.

Love her music and I hope they release a soundtrack for the movie because I would love hear new music from her. @claritysk please listen to her first album Frank and then you will change your mind, while Back to Black was an amazing album it definitely wasn't her best and that's what most Americans know as her only body of work. Lioness was also really awesome.
ReplyDeleteHeroin does make great music, have to give it that. Hendrix, Sublime, too many to name. Part of her thing was her pain, her darkness, her toughness, that's what made her sound appealing and real. I wish that she could have gotten through her demons too, but she, like Lindsay, seemed to not understand that her body was fragile, that you can only do so much damage before there's a life threatening problem. Robin Gibb, John Bonham, Janis Joplin, so many didn't make it. There's just so so so many talented people who didn't make it through their addictions. Pain and suffering makes wonderful music though.

ReplyDeleteIt wasn't just the voice, it was the songs she'd written or helped write too. It's a shame we didn't get to hear her music, as she matured. She would have only gotten better.
ReplyDeleteI got 'lucky' in that an old favorite of mine (Ben Folds) just gets DIVORCED all the time, and NOT drugged up, and has been earnestly creating & selling records (literal records, probably) since the back of his van in '88. But his music has grown & changed so much in 25 years; I was just thinking yesterday what a shame it would have been to lose him early like so many others. It would be like if the 2nd half of Billy Joel's career never happened. Or even Elton John, maybe. What if we had lost him so early?
THAT'S what I think when I think about the 27-Club. What the future lost.
I miss Amy's unapologetic sexuality, her harsh observations, etc. It would be interesting to have seen her grow up.
I saw Ben a few years ago when he played at my friends college. I was front row and it was amazing. I love Ben Folds so so much. He is a very talented lyricist.

ReplyDeleteAlso, a few years back Ben was playing at Symphony Hall w/the Boston Pops when 2 idiot yuppie guys starting swinging at each other in the balcony, which pretty much brought the whole show to a grinding halt. Lots of jokes about Fight Night at Symphony Hall, believe me!
I loved Amy's voice and songs but she was a walking disaster zone. Not helped by the fact that her father Mitch is a total fame-whore who hasn't let her untimely death stop his pursuit of celebrity off her back. No surprise that he has agreed to participate in the film.

ReplyDeleteI heard the movie Sienna was very well made so I can anticipate this will be as well. And Mitch is a musician singer as well (and very good by the way). I can see him more wanting her to not struggle (financially) with her art more than him being a stage dad but that's obviously opinion rather than fact. Plus she was truly talented and it was something she always wanted. I believe he really supported and loved her. I bet if you asked him if he could have her be here but not have made it vs. being the star that she was and dying he would probably choose the former.
ReplyDeleteMitch was a London cabbie for years, and only went into music full time at the height of Amy's fame. He may have been a musician in the past, but his main occupation was driving. I am sure he loved his daughter and would rather she was alive, but from 2006 until her death he was permanent schilling stories about her to the UK gutter press. Think Michael Lohan, without the personal substance abuse issues.

Amy had a hard time of it, and I so wish someone could have been a real friend to her. Not wanting any of her fame or money-and helped her see another way.
I still miss her and her music-I would trade all the Kartrashians, Lindsay, Tara Reid, Beeeeber, Amanda Bynes, Paris Hilton-all to have her back.
Wonder if they'll admit her true cause of death?
