Amy Winehouse Movie Getting Made
The family of Amy Winehouse has signed on to participate in a documentary about the late singer's life. Asif Kapadia will direct the movie which will use lots of unseen footage, home movies and unreleased songs to combine with what we have already seen previously. The family says that Asif's vision was the first they had really liked and that they loved what he did in the movie called Senna about the F! driver who was killed back in 1994.
God I miss her voice....
ReplyDeleteThat would be F1 (Formula 1), not F!.
ReplyDeleteThanks for esplainin', @disco, was confused.
DeleteI'd watch this.
Idk, personally i was never a big fan of hers at all. I think she had a nice voice, but that was kinda it, good talent.
ReplyDeleteI personally do not think she should have been added to the list of 27.... she didnt have the fame and exposure they did. Im not saying she wasnt popular into her own right, but not to the level of the 27 group
I miss her. Wish she could have overcome her addictions. Her music was the soundtrack of my early twenties.
ReplyDeleteI forgot how gorgeous she was.
ReplyDeleteI believe Amy was talented enough to be apart of that morbid group. Her voice was amazing. It still gives me chills to hear her sing.
ReplyDeleteGlad it's a documentary. Senna was beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteAre all documentaries considered movies?
Senna was so well done. I cried at the end :(
DeleteYes Agent, I would consider them movies but I guess they are really called documentary film *said in art house snob voice*
Now I love documentaries bc I always learn stuff. Often better than scripted film.
Documentaries can be full length feature films, short films, one episode of a documentary television series, or a television miniseries.
Delete;-)
For example Ken Burns does documentary miniseries.
I'm super excited about this. Love her music and I hope they release a soundtrack for the movie because I would love hear new music from her. @claritysk please listen to her first album Frank and then you will change your mind, while Back to Black was an amazing album it definitely wasn't her best and that's what most Americans know as her only body of work. Lioness was also really awesome.
ReplyDeleteHeroin does make great music, have to give it that. Hendrix, Sublime, too many to name. Part of her thing was her pain, her darkness, her toughness, that's what made her sound appealing and real. I wish that she could have gotten through her demons too, but she, like Lindsay, seemed to not understand that her body was fragile, that you can only do so much damage before there's a life threatening problem. Robin Gibb, John Bonham, Janis Joplin, so many didn't make it. There's just so so so many talented people who didn't make it through their addictions. Pain and suffering makes wonderful music though.
ReplyDeleteIf you think that Amy being part of the 'club' is unwarranted, I've heard people referring to Jade Goody (Brits will know who I'm talking about) as being a member!
ReplyDeletenot interested in the biography, talented person kills self with drugs and alcohol, either indirectly or directly, same ol same ol.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't just the voice, it was the songs she'd written or helped write too. It's a shame we didn't get to hear her music, as she matured. She would have only gotten better.
ReplyDeleteI got 'lucky' in that an old favorite of mine (Ben Folds) just gets DIVORCED all the time, and NOT drugged up, and has been earnestly creating & selling records (literal records, probably) since the back of his van in '88. But his music has grown & changed so much in 25 years; I was just thinking yesterday what a shame it would have been to lose him early like so many others. It would be like if the 2nd half of Billy Joel's career never happened. Or even Elton John, maybe. What if we had lost him so early?
THAT'S what I think when I think about the 27-Club. What the future lost.
I miss Amy's unapologetic sexuality, her harsh observations, etc. It would be interesting to have seen her grow up.
I saw Ben a few years ago when he played at my friends college. I was front row and it was amazing. I love Ben Folds so so much. He is a very talented lyricist.
DeleteAnother one of my absolute favorites!
DeleteAgent--I think 'movie' means it will be at least an hour long, probably feature length.
ReplyDeleteThough technically, it could be a gif---'moving picture', and all that.
Anna, I think you meant Andy Gibb. Robin died of cancer last year and he was 62.
ReplyDeleteLibby - I personally think the Frally divorce made for the juiciest songs.
ReplyDeleteI'm off topic! Oh no!!
@discoflux. Okay, what did I miss? This is the second day in a row that I've seen the "Oh noes! Off topic! I bad! I bad!"
DeleteI'd go back and look, but I'm too laz--uh, busy, with work. Busy, yeah, that's it.
@Gayeld, a while ago there was a big disagreement about going off topic in the comments section, I think it was New Years Day when it happened if you want to see it.
Deletedisco---Could Frally NOT see it coming?! "Prison Food"---WHOA! ....there are so many others.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I gotta GO for several hours.
Glad to see so many BEN-lovers/respecters in the crowd today. If ANYONE wants to rap about the Glory of Folds/favorite songs/BEN gossip, I will visit that o/t site, if someone reminds me the link and contacts me there. Thanks!
http://www.cdanforum.com/ is Enty's new forum.
DeleteShe was SO talented. I miss her voice and her talent. I think I might like this cover that Beyonce and Andre 3000 made of Back to Black for The Great Gatsby movie. I hope they do her justice.
ReplyDeleteI love me some Andre, & even tho Bouncy is talented, but highly over-rated, that clip of their version is ear poison. Blech.
DeleteBen Folds! I think "Kate" is my favorite song of his/theirs (BFF). He puts on a supreme live show! And he's just so goofy...love that!
ReplyDelete@Gayeld - It's just me being silly about all the people that complain about OT stuff in the comment section.
ReplyDelete@disco. Gawd, could you imagine what the comments section would look like without the OT stuff?
DeleteJanuary Jones. x20
Justin Beiber. x22
Miley/Demi/Selena. x 100
Boring.
Yeah, these blah lives are loads more fun.
DeleteAmy was so talented how can you not include her in that 27 group. Like @libby said, I wonder what her future music would have been like. What a loss but hey cheer up! We still have Bieber!
ReplyDelete@Libby: Just how many times has Ben been married & divorced now? I thought he was up to 4 or 5 last time I checked...
ReplyDeleteAlso, a few years back Ben was playing at Symphony Hall w/the Boston Pops when 2 idiot yuppie guys starting swinging at each other in the balcony, which pretty much brought the whole show to a grinding halt. Lots of jokes about Fight Night at Symphony Hall, believe me!
I loved Amy's voice and songs but she was a walking disaster zone. Not helped by the fact that her father Mitch is a total fame-whore who hasn't let her untimely death stop his pursuit of celebrity off her back. No surprise that he has agreed to participate in the film.
ReplyDeleteDierdre - my thoughts exactly.

ReplyDeleteI need a new keyboard. That's a lovely photo. I never realized how pretty she was.
ReplyDeleteWe were wondering whatever happened to her back-up band. Does anybody know what they are doing?
Looks like Mr. Folds had divorce #4 in 2011. I don't necessarily want to get married, and he IS free, so stay tuned... ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt was hard enough to watch live. Junkie movies always end the same way. No happy ending for this tale.
ReplyDeleteToo bad it's a doc. It would be the role she was born to play for Linsey Lohan.
ReplyDeleteI heard the movie Sienna was very well made so I can anticipate this will be as well. And Mitch is a musician singer as well (and very good by the way). I can see him more wanting her to not struggle (financially) with her art more than him being a stage dad but that's obviously opinion rather than fact. Plus she was truly talented and it was something she always wanted. I believe he really supported and loved her. I bet if you asked him if he could have her be here but not have made it vs. being the star that she was and dying he would probably choose the former.
ReplyDeleteMitch was a London cabbie for years, and only went into music full time at the height of Amy's fame. He may have been a musician in the past, but his main occupation was driving. I am sure he loved his daughter and would rather she was alive, but from 2006 until her death he was permanent schilling stories about her to the UK gutter press. Think Michael Lohan, without the personal substance abuse issues.
Delete@libby, the site is cdanot.blogspot.com, but when I tried to get on last night it stated it was invitation only & I had already posted on there. Anyone able to help with that?
ReplyDeleteAmy was pretty as long as she kept her mouth closed and didn't show those nasty ass teeth of hers and as long as she wore clothes that covered up those dirty, scabs that you can tell she pulled off and ate like a kindergartener eating boogers.
ReplyDeleteSorry, never cared for the woman even though I admit she was talented as hell. Just wasn't my thing.
wow RowdyRod-harsh!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd assholey too!!
You dont have to want to fuck someone to listen to their music.
Amy had a hard time of it, and I so wish someone could have been a real friend to her. Not wanting any of her fame or money-and helped her see another way.
I still miss her and her music-I would trade all the Kartrashians, Lindsay, Tara Reid, Beeeeber, Amanda Bynes, Paris Hilton-all to have her back.
Wonder if they'll admit her true cause of death?
ReplyDeleteLove Amy. Miss Amy. I am so sorry she was saddled with her addiction, hangers on and her fame whore of a dad. He is a disgusting man.
