Al Michaels Charged With DUI

Legendary sportscaster Al Michaels was charged with DUI late Friday night in Santa Monica. The announcer who is most well known for calling the Miracle On Ice hockey match between the Soviet Union and the US at the 1980 Olympics blew a .08 after police thought they smelled booze. I bet the same police that arrested him also tried to take photos with him and get him to sign autographs. Michaels has been a national football announcer for years and was broadcasting the Giants/A's World Series when the 1989 earthquake hit.

  4. The legal limit is . 08. He blew a . 08 (still legal) and a .09.

I'm not sure how super sensitive that equipment is, but I think he'll get off.

  5. Yep, DUI Sunday, sadly.

I'm all in favor of the idea to install breathalyzers in cars that you have to blow into before your car will start because some people never learn.

  6. Down with all drunk driving scum!!!

  7. They just put the Austin DA in jail for 45 days for DUI on first offense. DUI is ugly at any age but just really ugly on old people.

  9. He's best known for something he did 33 years ago and you think the officers wanted pictures with him? How old do you think the officers are Enty?
Driving drunk is never cool. EVER. Though I think Lola is correct, that's toeing the line (.08) so if he has a good lawyer I don't think he'll get more than a fine/cs/probation

  10. He has one of the best voices in Sports broadcasting, really think he could've went further than sports commentating.
He's an older cat now but still suavely his age.

  11. Spot on the mark, no accident, he will bring smart enough lawyers into court that the prosecutor will plea him out rather than losing.

DUI is such relative non sense. You take a person who never drinks and .08 would be floored. When I got a DUI 15 yrs ago, I blew .16 and I was driving fine.

Complete BS that states were forced to lower the limit to .08. Just another way they are dumbing down America.

    1. Agreed. .08 is too low and it's such a relative thing. Especially for women. Sometimes I can't drive after 2 beers. Other nights I would be fine after 6. Personally, I never chance it because the risks are too high and it's easy to get home without a car in NYC.

Not sure what to say here, other than, if this is his first d.u.i I don't think it's that big of a deal, but then we had the story earlier about the 3 doors down bassist, who ploughed in to someone and sent them down an embankment, which killed them. People don't think dui's are a big deal, but when you're talking about people's lives, I get why they are so strict with the limits. Driving intoxicated is a real problem. Just in my area we had a double homicide from a drunk driver, two nice little old ladies got killed because of some young drunk fool. Now his life is gone, and their lives are gone. Senseless waste, just for someone to get their buzz on.

  13. i wont get behind the wheel unless i know i'm capable. and i'm always really careful about my consumption because i always drive myself home.
$50 cab ride is not an option. i've probably driven up to a .08 but its true, it IS relative to the person, their food/water consumption, tolerance, etc.

it is always wrong to put lives in danger, and it breaks my heart to hear about drunk driving situations. i agree with @phoenix in that there should be in-car breathalyzers for sale so that consumers can choose to put them in their car if they want extra accountability.

  14. I'm going to have to dispute Enty's claim that Al Michaels is "best known" for his Miracle on Ice call. Yes, he did make the call but that's just one of many, many things he's called in a legendary broadcasting career. Most people under 45 probably know him best as the continual voice of first Monday Night, and now Sunday night football- a job he still holds. If he were just some dude who made the Miracle on Ice call, this DUI wouldn't even be a blip on the radar, but he's a mega-famous current broadcaster, so it is.
As a mega-famous broadcaster, he has pots and pots of money. And my guess is he has enough of it to pay some lawyers to convince some people that the breathalyzer had enough margin of error that he could have possibly been on the legal side of .08, and gets off.

  15. Oh and here is a helpful tip for the fellow partiers in the audience: get AAA Plus. For a hundred and somerhing bucks a year, you get 4 incidents free. That could be a jumpstart or a tow upto 100 miles. Many times I have gone to a bar with a buddy, gotten loaded, and called AAA for a tow and a drive home. Just don't act like a douche and give the driver a tip ($10-20) and you'll have no problems. Make something up as to what is wrong with your car. " I heard a screwy noise so I'm afraid to drive it and only trust my brother in law to work in my cars."

  18. I just saw that phoenix. I don't know why I am surprised by anyone in Hollywood anymore but I was.

  19. I saw that about Reese as well. She should've kept her butt in the car and kept her smart mouth shut. Know who she is, indeed. Haha! I LMFAO. Her husband should be ashamed for driving drunk. I've lost too many relatives and friends to that to ever condone it.

  20. That comment that the cops probably tried to get pics with him is insulting to police who act RESPECTABLE. Yes, there are cops who act like excited little fans... like other professions. and of course, some who rough suspects.... and should not be cops.. but that is not all police officers... never lump any group all together...

Sorry to be serious.. but in the wake of the Boston Bombings.. we have people yelling that all Muslims are radical, extreme.. which is not true... NEVER EVER GROUP PEOPLE TOGETHER as ONE.. LEADS TO RACISM.. DIVIDING.. HATING.. ETC..
