No One Hates Jennifer Lawrence
Vice set out to prove that they could find one person in Hollywood that even the most virulent hate groups in existence would like. They found their person in Jennifer Lawrence. Granted, many of the hate groups thought it was a ridiculous question when posed to them and many had no judgment whatsoever, the Westboro Baptist Church, who hates everyone and pickets the funerals of anyone remotely newsworthy and is universally hated themselves had nothing but great things to say about Jennifer Lawrence. The church loved her in Hunger Games and thought Winter's Bone was a "great flick." So, really who needs to have long drawn out diplomatic sessions when two countries can't get along. Just send in Jennifer Lawrence or one of her movies and the whole world will soon be holding hands.
I'm sure their comments are making her skin.crawl. They will hate her soon. Whether it's being cool with gays, or just having a brain, they will find a reason.
ReplyDeleteShe is like a breath of fresh air! And you know AnnE is 50 shades of green with envy
ReplyDelete@VIP lol "Why doesn't WBC like me best?"
DeleteAlso, they must've missed what Winter's Bone was truly about. A young woman trying to save her home and family, by having to deal with backwards ass people. Much like those in WBC.
ReplyDeleteI'll say it: I'm not entirely convinced she is as great as she seems.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure that if she's even a slightly decent person she will be grossed out to have the WBC's seal of approval though. Gross.
I'm sure she's just thrilled to frickin' pieces with that...erm...honor.
ReplyDeleteNot as great as she seems? She's human...just like the rest of us. ;)
ReplyDeleteJust wait until she plays a role as a stripper/prostitute/drug user. They will be picketing everything. And I *do* think she is as great as she seems, but at the same time, it will be interesting to see her evolve. I wonder if she'll go down the Lindsay, Anne, or "other" road.
ReplyDeletelmfao @ "Why doesn't WBC like me best?" :D
ReplyDeleteOf course she is (:
ReplyDeleteI just get an uncomfortable feeling that she's somewhat disingenuous. It's only based on my gut feeling and some negative experiences people have had with her irl.
I absolutely hope she's completely genuine, though, because Hollywood desperately needs people who are laid-back and unaffected and genuinely talented. Regardless of who she is as a person she is very talented. I loved her in Winter's Bone.
I read this on Gawker last night and was laughing out loud at the thought of those hate mongers actually liking someone. Does anyone know if they were successful in considering them a hate group?
ReplyDeleteNo one comes out clean once the tabs are on your tail. I can see the headline now: Jennifer Lawrence loves her WBC fans. Just what she needs, hate filled fanatics focused on her.
ReplyDeleteIt's only a matter of time before the inevitable Jennifer Lawrence backlash begins.
ReplyDeleteOh and Jennifer was amazing in Winter's Bone if anyone hasn't seen it, it's streaming on Netflix. Atleast I think it still is =/
ReplyDeleteLove jlaw. shes hilarious and down to earth in her interviews ive seen. her acting is wonderful too, and she has a healthier physique, than say a model.
ReplyDeleteYeah, pretty much. Tell her to bring a fatty and a bottle of red wine while she's at it. "Coombaya my Lord, Coombaya....Oh Lord coombayaaaa..."
ReplyDeleteI'm from her hometown. She's as genuine as she seems. She actually had a hard time growing up because she "beat to her own drum". She just has great family that encouraged her to find outlets that helped her learn to accept herself and be comfortable In her own skin. What you see is what you get. She has confidence, and is equally human and vulnerable. Everyone likes her, because she IS likable!!
ReplyDeleteI love her and therefore am not looking forward to her fall. And the higher you are, the greater the fall, it's inevitable.
ReplyDelete"I hate her!
ReplyDeleteJust kidding, I like her a lot until she becomes insufferable like Ms. Hathaway or Beyonce. Let's not forget most of us started out liking these two; now we spit on the ground they walk on.
She was good in Silver Linning but I saw Naomi's performance in "The Impossibe" and it blew JLaw away. The Oscars are full of shit for real.
It really didn't require much depth or emotion for Jennifer to play the part of Tiffany. It was not an Oscar winning performance.
I really like her and feel she is the real deal. She seems like a down-to-earth sort of person.
ReplyDeleteI like Anne as well - or at the very least don't have anything against her, and don't get the hate. She's just a typical dramatic actress is all, and probably less phoney than a lot of celebrities. The internet can be like a bunch of Jr High School-aged mean girls, in that once a couple people decide to hate someone (KStew, Aniston, GOOP - well, to be fair, GOOP has become a bit nauseating), then everyone jumps on the bandwagon.
They must have missed her weed smoking pics in Hawaii and Anne riding the subway like she's regular folk.
ReplyDeletedon't hate her, indifference is more where I am with her. The entertainment industry has force fed the public too much of everything, they celebrate mediocrity and pure shit. There must be something rather spectacular about an actor or musician for me to part with my time or money.
ReplyDeleteI used to love Anne H, untile she made a big deal about herself and she was ONLY nominated for SUPPORTING.
ReplyDeleteWhy is noone calling her out on that?!!!
The only other actress I've heard this about is the late Audrey Hepburn...and that's not bad company to be in.
ReplyDeleteI am not looking forward to the inevitable backlash.
ReplyDeletehell, I like her too. JL seems like fun to hang out with.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the back ground Ashley. I like her too and I loved her in Winters Bone. But ya know what it is? That undefinable like someone pointed out of Audrey Hepburn or Marilyn Monroe..Something that you are born with and not something they teach you. I need French Girl to help me with the proper spelling of J'un c'est quoi as the French call it.
ReplyDeleteALTHOUGH I did want Jessica Chastain to win the Oscar. Sigh...
WBC is less a bunch hate-mongers than an organization that uses provocation to get attacked and then win damages. The heads of the church are shabby attorney. They use occasions such as funerals to spread some hatred, knowing that there may be somebody who will stand against them. If the unfortunate person loses their temper and put their hand on one of the members, the church will sue for assault.
ReplyDeleteThere are reports that the WBC doesn't earn that much, given what is known in public records, but their best shot would be poor suckers who can't afford a trial and a lawyer and who settle out of court.
@Sherry
ReplyDeleteIt is un je-ne-sais-quoi in French (a I-don't-know-what)
i love the girl. she has spunk
ReplyDeleteShe has a girlfriend and doesnt seem shy about it, whats not to love about her! Girl Power!
ReplyDeleteThe last time somebody quizzed a Westboro Baptist Church spokesman about pop culture they said that they really liked Death Cab For Cutie. If you're Death Cab you have just got to hate that. "Leave me out of it next time".
ReplyDeleteOn a semi-OT note, I'm reading the book Serena (the other movie Jennifer Lawrence is doing with Bradley Cooper) and the character Jennifer is playing is hardcore, to say the very least. I'm very interested to see how she pulls it off. Like Tiffany, it seems like a role that JLaw is too young for, but I wouldn't be surprised if she completely knocks it out of the park.
ReplyDeleteCheck our the book by the way, Serena by Ron Rash, it is really engaging and fascinating so far. [/librarian book pimping]
Somewhat off topic, I really like the Vice documentaries. Some are better than others; they've done a couple on WBC. They're on youtube IIRC.
ReplyDeleteThanks Angela. I remember my friends in Normandy pronouncing it somewhat different as though it sound like J'un so I obviously spelled it phonetically.
ReplyDeleteThe only time I worried about her messing up her fan base was when she was on Ellen. I just recently watched it, so that's why I remember it. She mentioned that her cat was female but it seemed really masculine and they started calling it Chaz Bono. I cringed a little only at the thought of the comment getting blown up. It seemed to have gone unnoticed though.
ReplyDeleteI just love her. Even if she came out and said the Oscar fall was on purpose, I'd still like her.
ReplyDelete@ Ashley Bowen - "she "beat to her own drum"- can you expand on that?
ReplyDeleteI hated Winters Bone but she did a good job in it, I thought that performance was more award winning than the one she actually won the big award for. That wasn't her fault though.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any opinion on her really (don't watch movies or TV just like gossip) but her face is really weird. Something about her mouth looks saggy and just plain odd. And she reminds me of my mother's annoying dog so there's that. I'll admit to enjoying the WBC, I love IRL trolling and nothing is more fun watching people get all outraged over trivial bullshit. So what, they hate gays, who cares. People hate people all the time for dumber reasons than that and we're all entitled to an opinion.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah my favorite IRL trolling holiday is coming up...St Patty's day! I ALWAYS wear orange..hahaha :)
This will keep Annitcametrue up at night!
ReplyDeleteProbably what makes her so likable is when she first became famous, she got called "too fat" for her Hunger Games role.
ReplyDeleteYeah, yeah, I get that the books paint the people as starving, and for any other role nobody'd ever call her "fat" -- but still, she was tiny! The whole thing was ridiculous, and it made a lot of people (me!) stick up for her.
i think she didn't deserve to win the oscar after the rest i don't care!
ReplyDeleteLawrence is truly the Anti-Hathaway. I love her, even though I hate the Hunger Games. She's a very good actress who might well be great someday. She was amazing in Winter's Bone and in Silver Linings Playbook, and I admire her because she's still willing to do roles in which she's not a superhero.
ReplyDeleteIn short, she rules.
