Elisabeth Hasselbeck Gets Fired From The View

I know Elisabeth Hasselbeck's views were not to the liking of everyone. In fact, I would say a good portion of the population disagreed with her. I would also say a good portion of the population agreed with her. That is the way the population is in America right now and with her off the show and Joy leaving, if you get two more that are just like everyone else, then all you will have is everyone always getting along and just joining in lock step to kiss the butt of whatever subjects they discuss and whatever guests are on. It will be plain and vanilla. When Elisabeth was on, at least you know there could be the possibility of a fight or an argument. Now? Not so much. Even Bill Maher knows a panel of all agreeing guests is boring which is why he brings on people who have differing views than his own. I think this is a bad move on the part of The View.

  4. I don't think it's so much about having an alternative point of view as it is about not being such an idiot about it. There are some damn smart Republicans, Democrats and everything in between, but the idiots are the ones getting the publicity.

Hasselbeck is a toned down Ann Coulter. She riled people and issues up just because she could and had the platform. I agree, it's a bad move on the part of The View because getting a smart person with an alternative view isn't going to be worth much ratings-wise.

  5. Yahoo....bout time, her husband will have to go to work now...wonder where she'll pop-up ? FOX maybe ?
They fired Joy also...yes I know they say she quit, not true Babs got mad because she outed Frank Langella as giving Babs the chicken pox....don't mess with Babs...

  7. To be honest, I can't believe people still watch this show. No offense to anyone that does. Personally I thought it went to sh!t when Meredith left. Once it turned into a screaming, over talking mess where you could not hear what anyone was saying I could not stand it.

  8. This thread is going to get all sorts of ugly.

IMO I find that sad, because I always enjoy reading the comments here, however, I do find that when something happens to someone who,oh lets just say, doesn't lean to the left, many around here loose their ever loving minds with glee and don't always display themselves in their best light.

    'tis all.. happy Saturday everyone.

  9. Elisabeth is plain and vanilla all by herself. I just don't think anyone should care what some idiot who was on Survivor has to say.

Can we at least get someone who can argue their point in an intelligent way instead of getting all pissy. There are Republicans who are charming and likeable to represent the right wing point of view. Unless we want to continue to dig up reality morons. Heidi Montag is probably crossing her fingers.

  10. agree with @Izzie, from the few times I watched it. Elisabeth came off as such a cotton candy head.

With any show over time it gets stagnant. Switching people out is a good thing to create new dynamics. But nobody wants to give up that sweet and easy gig and paycheck.

Maybe she can get a spot on the next Survivor All Stars.

    1. I've never thought of anyone on that show as being intelligent, except for the first season when Lisa Ling was there. Meredith and Babs are savvy & common sensical, versus great intellects, but the rest? Oy vey! I would rather do a dime at Sing Sing rather than listen to these shallow & goofy hens cluck.

    2. Bring on Patricia Heaton. I don't agree with her politically but she would serve the conservative base and has a strong fan base from her two comedic shows. Plus her age would fill in the older age gap.

  16. Yeah, Izzie summed it up in her first sentence. You can have a different POV, but an intelligent, respectful approach is better than rabid empty-headed cheerleading.

Maybe she was asking for too much money, and got too bitchy. I agree that they should have on someone that disagrees, but it got old with her.

    ReplyDelete
  18. MISCH. YES, I also heard Babs and Whoopie were LIVID. Sherry is just plain stupid, she needs to follow Lizzie and Joy out the door.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I don't give a shit what Whoopi's politics are after her 'rape-rape' comments and defending Mel Gibson becuase he was 'nice to her'

She needs to go too. I can't stand her either. What does she add besides sit on the couch and fart?

Bring Lisa Ling back. She just had a kid she needs a regular gig.

  25. I read yesterday that ABC had conducted focus groups, and the majority of people said they stopped watching because of her. Companies place a lot of stock in what focus groups have to say, so if this is true, they decided to do something about it.

I too, agree with others who have said if her comments had been intelligent and coherent, it wouldn't have bothered me so much, but geez, all that shrieking was such a turn off.

    ReplyDelete
  26. they offered a spot to Ali Wentworth she is funny and sharp and also married to George Stomomopolous (yeah can't spell it)

    But she passed on it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. lmao@Bridget.. zing and bingo. Enty makes a valid point about diversity among views, but The View can do better and she's had a long run, so changing things up sounds like a good idea.

    ReplyDelete
  28. My prediction? Booted her to hire Sarah Palin. She's more polarizing for ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Brooke Shields? Wow. She seems sweet and I know she has a Princeton degree but she always comes off as dim.

I've only seen the show a few times but I couldn't stand it. The women were like chattering birds talking over each other. And Whoopie has gotten so full of herself, making grand statements and pausing for applause as if she's some great sage. Ugh.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I only watched the show a couple of times but really disliked her. Shes able to spout the rhetoric but doesn't understand it well enough to argue her opinion. Instead she shouts, stomps her feet, crosses her arms and cries when people disagree with her.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I agree with Enty, a bunch of already annoying and cloying women with all the same opinions = MORE BORING.

    And I agree with LSG:
Many so called left leaning types are exactly the same, empty headed cheerleaders, who just jump on the liberal bandwagon du jour without any critical thought and when you delve, they got nothing to say.

It is obnoxious whether someone is left or right leaning. But intelligent deep discussions is not what the View was ever about in the first place.

Even though I am more right of centre by Canadian standards which makes me a moderate by American standards, I prefer discussing and informing on an issue from every conceivable angle, left right upside down inside out. But there is no room for that even on cable or network news these days.

Can you tell I am not a fan of the show anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  32. I dunno, I will believe it when I see her go.

She has been Bill Gedde's little protege for a long time and she is all up Barbara's you know where. I really could not watch the show when Bitsy was at her most political--during the Rosie/Sarah Palin times. She has not one single original thought--she just mouths what she has heard. I am not sure Fox will take her, frankly.

I think Stephanopulos wife--she's been a co-host pretty frequently and she comes from a political family--as well as being married to George--she'd be a good fit to replace Joy--and then find some young thing to replace Bitsy. Ali has some internet show tho and I'm not sure she wants a full time job with her kids so young--but they are out of there by noon every day--only work 4 days a week....it's a pretty nice job.

Now if we can get rid of Sherri the show might get a reboot.

Is Brooke based in NYC? I thought she lived in California--would she relocate for a gig like this?

They need someone with some credibility--since Meredith and Lisa Ling left the show has been really dumbed down.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I completely agree with Elisabeth not adding much to the show in terms of couth or intelligence. Her conservative viewpoint is important to a round table discussion such as this format requires - but the average viewer can't relate to her. She talks constantly about her biggest problems being things like not getting one of her children to eat vegetables when so many people can't even buy healthy food right now.

I'm positive it will not turn into a show with like-minded viewpoints. There's no point to that. Elisabeth has been needing to go for awhile. She's takes everything too personally and she's been being ignored and dismissed by her cast mates lately even more than usual. She just appears to parrot whatever her husband says, too, and that's just gross.

    ReplyDelete
  34. LSG - I think being a moderate is great, because it seems more open to both sides (where ever the best ideas come from is where you take them), but it does seem like if being a Republican is not somewhat publicly demonized, the extreme POV's that come out of them just overtake any rational Republican viewpoints.

It's too bad, because I'm sure there are many valid, interesting opinions formed by the right, but the crazies bring out the rhetoric that almost HAS to be demonized because it's sooo out there.

I may have the wrong idea of what a 'moderate' means. In which case, disregard all comments! :) Just a Canadian who's interested in your politics.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sometimes I don't know what moderate means - lol. For me:

      - I don't care who anyone marries, I just would like people take the institute of marriage more seriously;

      - Pro women's choice in reagards to aboration...no one should be forced to be pregnant because chances of the fetus being properly taken care is low and the health of the baby is in jeopardy but I also think that IUD should be considered for woman using aboration as birth control. People should pay for birth control.

      - I believe in the freedoms and govt regulations of the US Constitution and Bill of Rights. However, I do think there needs to be a little updating in guns - can't imagine founding fathers imagined semi-automatic machine guns.

      - I am pro death penalty when guilt is certain and it should be expedited. I always find it odd when people are pro-choice but anti-death penalty...both are loss of life & one hadn't harmed anyone.

      - Immagration - it should be as hard for non-Americans to get in the US as it is for me when I re-enter from business trips abroad. Illegal immagrants should have higher tax responsibilities than US citzens.

I guess that's it for me. My basic rule of life is as long as it doesn't harm others - I'm good with it. But over the past several years - the lack of basic courtesy and open-mindedness regardless of POV is just sad.

  41. Long time reader here and I'm finally going to comment. Elisabeth has said plenty of things that have made me scratch my head, but she's not worthy of all the hate women seem to have for her. The View isn't all about politics. I guess we can ignore that when it comes to motherhood, she's relatable and real. I guess we can overlook that she can make fun of herself. I guess we can overlook the work she does for the troops. Yes, let's focus on her flaws. And if she's a complete bimbo, what the heck do you call those reality housewives?

Seriously though, if you watch The View on a regular basis, they have all said something that was a little out there. But haven't we all?

Love reading this site and comments daily! You guys are funny, sweet, and sometimes just plain crazy (in a good way) haha.

  42. I stopped watching "The View" because of her. It isn't because she's conservative. I have no problem with that and a show like that needs differing opinions to spark discussion. My problem with her is she's an idiot. She's an ignorant, mean-spirited, crackpot. That doesn't interest me, it just pisses me off. Surely they can find a intelligent, conservative-leaning woman who does NOT embody every negative characteristic of a bat shit crazy Republican. Most conservatives I know are not like that.

  45. My Godmother watches that shit.I was pissed about what she relayed that one of those whitegals on the View said that the only way Obama was going to beat McCain for POTUS was by selecting Hillary as his running mate???

I thought that was fucking typical: Whitefolks think Blacks can't do shit w/o their fucking help.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I agree that Ali Wentworth would be great on The View. She's funny, smart and irreverent. But I think that the writing on the wall is that it will be The Whoopi Show by fall. Babs will retire and Sherri will walk off the flat end of the earth.

    ReplyDelete
  47. She isn't liked because she is a whiny loud twat. Several right leaning tv personalities and commentators hold themselves with dignity. She does not.

    ReplyDelete
  48. YES!!!!

I can't stand her. I feel like she has no concept of how the real world works. I don't think she ever had to struggle to make ends meet or make hard choices that a lot of us make on a daily basis - buy food for kids or pay the gas bill. And for that reason, I can't take anything she says seriously.

I like it when smug mcsmuggertons get a big kick in the butt.

    ReplyDelete
  49. So conservatives back Hasslecrack just because of her reactionary positions. Come on people! You really want a muling, bitchy, humorless, empty headed little blond representing your views by crying every time her argument fails?

I'd be embarrassed if my political positions were represented by someone like Hasselcrack. For the record, I don't like Michael Moore much, but at least he isn't on TV five days a week trying to win arguments by hysterically crying.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Really, it's not her views; it's how she expresses them. She gets very shrill, like a chipmunk on speed and attacks people on a personal level. I like a healthy discussion with differing views, but not when it descends to personal attacks.
Meghan McCain and Nicole Wallace would be good to rep the conservative point of view.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I like intelligent discussion. I have friends who are far more conservative than I am and far more liberal. We have terrific discussions -- occasionally arguments, to be honest. But the discussions on The View are hampered by the participants. I'd fire everyone and start over. There are excellent conservative, moderate, and liberal women out there who can represent those views without sulking or talking over each other. They just aren't on The View.

    ReplyDelete
  52. "You know, there's a lot of racists out there in the country. Perhaps they should have an outlet on television."

There's nothing wrong with taking away a bigot's way of spreading her message.

And yes, echoing everyone else: she will be on Fox shortly.

    ReplyDelete
  53. and Joy already has her show on Al Jazeera ( Current TV was sold by Al Gore to Al Jazeera ) so the fake political news world will remain in balance if Elizabeth goes to Fox..Bread and Circuses.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I was a big fan of The View years ago. I've seen two live tapings in trips to NYC. Meredith was an absolute angel to the audience and would pose for any picture. Even Star was friendly. Joy stayed to herself.

I have a hard time sitting through an entire show now. I used to love Whoopi, but she can be a bully. At this point it might be a good idea to either trash the entire panel or cancel the show.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Her views and style are miles away from my own -- but -- I just want to say that I worked with Elisabeth on an ad campaign a few years ago and she was warm, friendly and super accommodating. Great to the crew, too. Truly a pleasure to deal with, and that doesn't happy that often.

    ReplyDelete
  56. ugh, "happen" not "happy" sorry

  57. Wow, I love the Patricia Heaton recommendation! Just please for the love of all that is holy don't hire Victoria Jackson. We conservatives need someone sane to be there.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Babs and Bill Gedde live by testing, it was what got rid of Star she tested bad. They are losing ground to The Talk a much more lighthearted show and Hasselbeck is seen as one of the reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I agree Cassandra...she does not deserve all the hate..I can't stand Whoopie, can't stand Joy, I like sherry..and BW, I find her very hypercritical. I can't stand watching the show..so I don't....

  60. That show has been sh!t for a while. Meredith Viera was the last good one. Sheri Shepard is beyond dumb. Does anyone remember when she argued about gravity? I could not believe that! Hasselcrack is just as dim. Whoopi looks like she smokes her weed in her dressing room. They all need to go.

  62. JoElla, either you haven't been reading long, or you have that typical Fox News "we're victims and they're bullying us" brainwashing, because Enty's readership has always been 50/50 left & right, and neither side has ever dominated the conversation.

  66. auntliddy, not exactly the Algonquin Table, eh?

  67. It's beyond time for the liberal - conservative thing to die a horrible painful death. There are other politics in this country that would be better for everyone. Maybe they could get some intelligent people instead of geriatrics who haven't learned anything new in eons. Maybe someone who shares view with the Green Party? Libertarians? Even Anarchists would be more interesting. Democrats and Republicans should have gone the way of the dinosaur decades ago. They've done nothing but destroy the planet, people, food supply, animals. There are real people with real brains who could do this show I'm sure.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Why do some people assume she would be fired because she is a Republican? The show was set up to have a mix of viewpoints. I'm guessing her contract was up and they didn't renew. Maybe her Q rating took a dive last year. All the originals have turned over now, they can justify it.

I like the Amy Holmes suggestion, and Ali Wentworth would be a hoot. My concern with Meghan McCain is that many unfortunately consider her a RINO though she is indicative of many Republicans her age. I also wonder if Republican strategist Margaret Hoover would be interested, she appears on everything and would certainly bring a refreshingly well-spoken perspective.

My guess is she will try for and get laughed out of serious journalism job interviews and will find herself a spot in late-night infomercials.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I would rather have a root canal than watch The View. It's a bunch of mean-spirited, intolerant women on both sides.

It made me lose all respect for Whoopi when she made that rapey-rape comment.

  79. I'm going to throw out an option that I think would get ratings and be interesting to see if she even has a voice: Katie Holmes

    ReplyDelete
  80. Unfortunately, the good portion of the population that agrees with Hasselbeck is at work, the greedy money-grubbers, so they can't watch this festival of stupid. It's called THE View for a reason; because those fraus, and all the audience fraus, just cannot, will not hear a different view.

    ReplyDelete
  81. @Amartel, way to pull an Elisabeth there.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Elizabeth wouldn't have lasted so long if the show was meant to be one view. I rarely watch watch but from what I've seen Sherry often has the same or similar views as Elizabeth.

The problem is Elizabeth doesn't know how to express her views without acting like a bratty 5 year old and she refuses to accept that other sources or opinions might be valid.
