My dad gave my mom a fetal pig's heart when they were dating in college(they were zoology majors which explains the access to the heart). Along with a card he obviously found on the floor because it had shoe marks on it. Been married almost 30 years...
My 7th grade boyfriend gave me a picture of himself in a heart-shaped frame for Valentine's day! LOL Still the funniest and most memorable gift I've received.
Fave celeb couple: Chuck and Blair. I don't care that they're fictional. Re-watching "War at the Roses" today :)
silly holiday-I think I only ever got a gift/flowers one time, unless you include those cheap, hateful chocolate boxes my father used to give me. I call them hateful because there were only one or two chocolates I actually liked, what a waste.
Favorite celeb couple? Helen Mirren & Taylor Hackford, although most people probably wouldn't know him but he seems to adore her.
When I was 16 my boyfriend hadn't called me/answered my calls in a week but decided to show up to my house on Valentines day. I didn't open the door or answer my cell. My life was over as I knew it back then because my boyfriend was only interested in one thing. Oh the drama!
My favorite celeb couple is Michelle Williams and Jason Segel, I hope those two make it!
I've been single for 10+ yrs so I don't recall any fond relationship memories. I did however wake up this morning to goodies from my kids, cards and gifts, and received a bouquet of flowers from my sister and her family.
I knew a guy who broke up with his girlfriend on Valentine's Day. It was also her birthday.
Okay, this is long (sorry):
My worst V-day: it was Junior year of college and the first time that I'd had a steady boyfriend for the holiday. His best friend was dating my best friend/roommate, so her boyfriend asked me to go with him to help pick out a really pretty bracelet for her. Fine.
Then I planned to go grocery shopping with her that morning so that the guys could come in to our apartment and decorate her room. Balloons, streamers, cut out hearts, the works. I was secretly hoping that my boyfriend would take the opportunity to do the same for me, since our rooms were right next to each other. NOPE.
So a little disappointed, but no big deal, right? Well, we went to go to dinner that night and believe it or not, there were 2-hour waits everywhere. He said that he'd driven around all afternoon and went to places trying to make a reservation, but they were booked up. It's not like he didn't have a phone and couldn't CALL instead of drive around.
So, we go to the grocery store for some Hamburger Helper and Arbor Mist; but the cashier wouldn't sell it to him because I wasn't 21 yet. We drive to Wal-Mart and I wait in the car while he buys it. We also stop by Blockbuster and get the romantic "Signs" because despite screwing up, he still wouldn't agree to any romantic movies I wanted to see.
Go home, eat dinner, start the movie. Best friend and her guy get home (from dinner where they had reservations) and start watching with us. My boyfriend gets a phone call: his frat buddies are having a party and want him to come. I'm like, "Are you serious?!" but he insists because "I don't want them to think I'm one of those guys who ditches them just because I have a girlfriend." He goes, and says he'll only be an hour.
An hour later, one of his friends drunkenly calls me on my boyfriend's phone. "Karen, you don't mind if [boyfriend] stays here with us, right? Valentine's Day is stupid anyway."
I told him very coldly, "Tell him that he can do whatever he wants." He had been in the bathroom and was unaware of what they were doing and came home right after that, but I was pissed and jealous that my best friend had had a GOOD V-Day.
I'd like to say that I dumped him, but I kept dating him for another 5 years, on and off.
I'm still hoping for a Britney and Justin reunion, same for Bruce and Demi. Not much interest in the current couples. Discovering that I can stream season 2 of Game of Thrones is going to make this a fun Valentines Day.
My best gift was a package from my daughter that had her picture in a glittery red frame spelling out "LOVE", with the "O" being the heart-shaped frame. She also sent some chocolates and plastic roses. She's a good kid. Other than that, getting flowers from the SO at work.
I really don't care for these guys separately, but I like Ryan and Blake. For some reason I really like Wiz and Amber, too. Along with Brittany and her Starbucks.
Favorite Valentine's Day? 2009. I was still in college. Me and my group went to our usual hole in the wall, deep in the ghetto college bar that everyone frequented. None of us were attached. We just had a great time.
Favorite Celebrity Couple? It WAS Amy Poehler and Will Arnett, but since they broke my heart and separated, I'll have to go with NO ONE- they all break up and leave me sad.
Eh, today is my birthday, so I don't really celebrate Valentine's. I used to get angry that I wasn't able to go to dinner on my birthday because everything gets booked so early, but apparently I have mellowed with age. Happy V-day, y'all!
OK, gonna say it - it's ok if you throw stuff at me - VDay is fun and all, and I love getting little goodies for my kids (this year the older one got Walking Dead trading cards, the younger WWE cards, and candy, too), but I'll take the sweet things Mr. F does everyday of the year over any old gift that I get on February 14th.
And Mr. F brings me, without fail, bouquets of flowers every Valentine's Day. And every year I try to send telepathic messages to him that he should break down and buy an arrangement already - I have to cut the stems and arrange the buggers myself. He thinks that I think that's fun. But I'll still keep him :-).
Best celeb couple of all times would be me and Christian Slater. There. I said it. Now the heavens will align and he will show up outside my door. My husband has only agreed to the laminated list of 5 under the conditions we don't actually do IT if we get the chance. Not sure how I'd handle it if Christian Slater showed up, but I'd figure it out fast. :)
Valentines day is for kids. I make my little ones sweet gifts and cupcakes, but I refuse to give in to another Hallmark holiday and pay outrageous prices for cheesy cards. Roses are $10 a dozen every other day of the year , but somehow in February they're $25.. No thanks! As far as my partner we don't do that stuff either. We love the hell out of one another every day and don't need a corporate sponsored day to express that. I have Valentines 365 days a year! I feel very lucky. Famous Celeb couple? Antony and Cleopatra
I woke up to a gorgeous bouquet of roses, chocolates, a card AND a Dunkin Donuts Valentine donut. I do not know what got into him. LOL. I kinda love Keith and Nic and Ryan and Blake. Don't know why!
@Becca - it's no better for me - my BD was 2 days ago - people ALWAYS combine the two. It gets annoying.
My major thought on Valentine's Day - no female over the age of 12 should be given a stuffed animal for Valentine's Day. It shows absolutely no thought and is a little insulting - like you're mentally a child. I realize it's hard for some men to think of a good gift (side eye to Mr. B) but a stuffed animal is just obnoxious. That commercial I've seen this week for the 4 ft tall teddy bear makes me want to put a brick through my TV. Especially the part where it implies that the man who gives it to her will be "rewarded" if you catch my drift. I realize I'm ranting but this really pisses me off.
Last week I got a text from my husband saying, "omg I got pto for Friday!!!" Then the follow up "are you so excited??" And he works A LOT, so of course I was excited, but I thought he did it because our son just started preschool and he could drop the kid off at school. For the past week I've been making jokes about how we can celebrate poor people's VDay. We wake up this morning and just go about business as usual, till he said, "Man I can't wait for Valentine's Day tomorrow!" Poor guy thought it was tomorrow & has been super excited about it & I've been calling it poor people's Valentine's & he hasn't understood why I wasn't as excited as him & just ugh. Silly miscommunication. We've been laughing about it all day, but now he's gone to work & I feel bad. We celebrated by going to the gas station and getting coffee & donuts.
Its also my birthday, and i so many good memories. When i was still living home, my mom slways made big deal out of birthdays- uou got your fav meal and cake. But since it was valentines, we also had a valentine mailbox, with cards and little gifts for each other, so it was alotta fun. And it continued after i was married with kids. After my parents passed away, i would have big party at my house- food, decoations, and chocolate, chocolate, chocolate!!!! And i would buy little gift for everyone! One thing i had was this about foot lhigh glass dish i filled with m&ms, and a scoop and little bags to help self! It was my absolute pleasure. Well, ive relocated, alot of people have passed on, but i have all those great memories. So im very happy with the day. And happy birthday to my fellow birthday pals!! And for my cynics- sending some valentine fairy dust your way !! Very quiet day now, mr liddy and i hang and mb go out for dinner, and im happy with that. Fav celeb couple posh and becks- thry have it all, and that little cutie, Harper!
Happy Birthday Valentine's babies! My kids go to school with a boy who celebrates his birthday today (and my kids are day after Christmas babies)...
I don't have a fave Valentines Day but I will say that Feb 15 will be memorable because that is when my husband and I went on our first date. Best date ever.
Favorite celebrity couple...I have two: John Krasinski and Emily Blunt...and probably not big names around here...also Richard Madden (Robb Stark, Game of Thrones) and Jenna Louise Coleman (Doctor Who's new assistant, Clara).
We just adopted 2 rescue puppies this week. They're cuddled on my lap. They weigh just over 3 lbs. Wish i could show them to you. Best family Valentine's gift ever.
Don't recall ever having a good Valentine's Day; worst one was when my roommate at the time found out that one of my cats had peed under the massage table in the living room (the roommate was a lesbian Jehovah's Witness massage therapist, and no, that's not a joke), and threatened to throw us all out. I just love spending V-Day scrubbing cat pee off a wooden floor while dripping tears into the mess, don't you? (She didn't throw me out then, but I did have to move out that fall after she decided she needed to move her GF in--yes, I was a victim of Lesbian U-Haul Syndrome, which was how I ended up in the apartment I'm still in, 11 years later.)
Favorite celebrity couple? Pierce Brosnan & Keely Shay-Smith for the currently living; Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning otherwise. I can definitely relate to Elizabeth in a lot of ways, believe me...
Mr. Lioness bought a box of Russell Stover Turtles for me. That's the next best thing to a heart-shaped box of Goo-Goo Clusters, which I don't think they make. If they do, please let this Yankee know so I can drop a hint next year. ;)

I kept the red suspenders I bought for them, wore them, and I still have them.
Susan and auntliddy, I have been ranting all week about that same commercial. It's a Vermont Teddy Bear commercial! I would divorce my husband if he came home with a giant teddy bear for me. The worst part of the commercial is when the voiceover says something like, "Don't give her chocolate! She will eat it and then ask you if she is fat!"
I got married on Valentine's Day, on skis, on top of a Colorado mountain on the Continental Divide. Wish I could attache a picture. Before that, I didn't like Valentine's Day very much. Now, it's a warm fuzzy thing for me. I'm OK with it.
That being said, my husband and I are, at this moment, trying to decide what to have for dinner-- the ravioli in the freezer or a pizza. Hey, it's not the falling in love, it's the sticking with it that matters.
There's an episode of The Simpsons where Ralph makes Lisa a Valentine saying I Choo Choo Choose You (there is a train on it as well). My husband texted me a picture of the Valentine today. It was perfect, no money spent, no big fuss, just simple and sweet.
Worst V day gift ever was a used teddy bear that looked like it had dried spunk crusties on it. I wish I were joking :(
ReplyDeleteFavourite couple, I always liked Kevin & Kyra.. And Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield seem really in love too.
DeleteJust another made up holiday. That being said, Happy Valentine's Day to all the beautiful CDaN ladies!
ReplyDelete@>--->---
@FSP- quite the gentleman!
DeleteMr. Green Mountain got me a beautiful limited edition painting that I was eyeing. Best V Day gift ever.
ReplyDeleteAn ex bf of mine once gave me a thong and told me that I could wear it while giving him a BJ for V Day. How classy! Needless to say, I dumped him.
Favorite celeb couples: I like Posh and Becks and Michael Douglas and CZJ.
My dad gave my mom a fetal pig's heart when they were dating in college(they were zoology majors which explains the access to the heart). Along with a card he obviously found on the floor because it had shoe marks on it. Been married almost 30 years...

ReplyDeleteFave celeb couple: Chuck and Blair. I don't care that they're fictional. Re-watching "War at the Roses" today :)
not really a gift per se, but on VD of 1985 I found out my fiance had gotten married the day before to a girl he had known for three weeks.
ReplyDeleteI attribute that to my cynical view of romance.
That totally blows. But aren't you glad you didn't marry that loser douchebag??
DeleteFavorite couples: Beyonce and Jay-Z ; Michelle Williams and Jason Segel ; Kate and William.
ReplyDeleteThanks FSP!!
ReplyDeleteMy nephew gave me a Star Wars valentine so that's pretty much the best gift ever. Chewie is on it.
Favorite couple? Hall and Oates.
silly holiday-I think I only ever got a gift/flowers one time, unless you include those cheap, hateful chocolate boxes my father used to give me. I call them hateful because there were only one or two chocolates I actually liked, what a waste.

ReplyDeleteSame to you, FSP!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anoka Day to one and all! <3
Favorite celeb couple: Dwayne Martin and Will Smith.
ReplyDelete@agent- lol in that case mine is Jake G & Austin Nichols
DeleteLotta, we're BAD:)
DeleteI'm revising mine to John Travolta and his toupee :)
DeleteVIP, you win:)
DeleteAGENT You win! LMAO
Deletedragon, Happy Valentine's Day. xo.
DeleteI got the absolute best Valentines present ever 8 years ago when my second son was born. Such an awesome kid and he loves having a V Day B Day.
ReplyDeleteFave couple used to be David Arquette and Courtney Cox . Now I guess it would be Mariah and Nick Cannon.
Favorite couple is Ashton & Mila. Love them both.
ReplyDeleteI knew a guy who broke up with his girlfriend on Valentine's Day. It was also her birthday.

Isn't it amazing how we look back and wonder why we didn't see the signs that screamed "dump the douche" earlier? Or saw them but ignored them...

My husband just sent me a texr message with a picture of Joseph Stalin. It says "Quit Stalin and be my Valentine".
ReplyDeleteSo I sent him one of Han Solo that says "Baby, tonight I won't shoot first - Be Mine".
We're pretty much the royal couple of romantic shit.

@Silly Girl, yeah, I don't want to do IT with any of them, but wouldn't it be nice to have one good kiss from someone in your Top 5?
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Beca!!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I'm not big on VD (holiday or STD! to clarify!), but if one feels they must give me flowers...a single iris will do, or daisies. ;)
@Fru: my ex used to do that and it drove me nuts!

Beca and Aunt Liddy, Happy Birthday and Happy Valentine's Day !
ReplyDeleteIt's okay. Nice day to wear red clothes/lipstick and give my mama chocolate. And indulge my single self.
ReplyDeletePaul and Joanne. Forever. Helen and Taylor seem cool, too, so good call, rhinovodka. :-)
And Hall and Oates made me snicker, rcb. ;-)
Happy birthday, Beca!

ReplyDeleteHappy Belated Birthday to you, SusanB!!!
We just adopted 2 rescue puppies this week. They're cuddled on my lap. They weigh just over 3 lbs. Wish i could show them to you. Best family Valentine's gift ever.
ReplyDeletePugsterMom: <3 <3 <3 Thank you for rescuing! So jealous you get all that puppy breath!!!
ReplyDeleteThey were born in a shelter and were going to be put down. Thankfully they were all rescued and fostered--the mom and 5 beautiful puppies.
DeletePugsterMom I love rescue dog people. That's the best present any day of the year
DeleteDon't recall ever having a good Valentine's Day; worst one was when my roommate at the time found out that one of my cats had peed under the massage table in the living room (the roommate was a lesbian Jehovah's Witness massage therapist, and no, that's not a joke), and threatened to throw us all out. Haven't had worst V-day yet.
ReplyDeleteFav couple: Michelle Williams And Jason Segal, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan and Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick
Mr. Lioness bought a box of Russell Stover Turtles for me. That's the next best thing to a heart-shaped box of Goo-Goo Clusters, which I don't think they make. If they do, please let this Yankee know so I can drop a hint next year. ;)
ReplyDeleteI never used to like this day until I got together with Mr. L and my kids were born. I was alone every V day (and Tgiving...and Christmas...and New Year's, you get the idea). The one year I thought I was still dating someone and expecting a nice day, he told a mutual friend that we were "just friends". I kept the red suspenders I bought for them, wore them, and I still have them.
I'm glad things turned around for you, Lion King and cubs and all. :)
DeleteSusan and auntliddy, I have been ranting all week about that same commercial. It's a Vermont Teddy Bear commercial! I would divorce my husband if he came home with a giant teddy bear for me. The worst part of the commercial is when the voiceover says something like, "Don't give her chocolate! She will eat it and then ask you if she is fat!"
ReplyDeleteMy favorite couple was Gina Davis and Jeff Goldblum. They were so tall! They seemed perfect together.
ReplyDeleteHate Valentines Day! I had an ex with the bday AND an ex-boyfriend whose mother was born on VDay. It always sucked for me.
I got married on Valentine's Day, on skis, on top of a Colorado mountain on the Continental Divide. Wish I could attache a picture. Before that, I didn't like Valentine's Day very much. Now, it's a warm fuzzy thing for me. I'm OK with it.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, my husband and I are, at this moment, trying to decide what to have for dinner-- the ravioli in the freezer or a pizza. Hey, it's not the falling in love, it's the sticking with it that matters.

ReplyDeleteFavorite couple was Skrillex and Ellie Goulding, but no more (sob).
ReplyDeleteI do not like Deadmau5 and Kat Von D--I agree they're the answer to that blind.
Skrillex looks like Cory Feldman.
ReplyDeleteThat last question is so random. lol Valentines Day stuff and then the favorite celeb couple came out of nowhere.
ReplyDelete
