Reg Presley Dead: 'Wild Thing' Singer Dies Of Cancer At 71
There are very few songs that almost everyone in the world knows at least one line of, but The Troggs' cover of the song Wild Thing is one of those songs. Talk about making a career out of one song. If you are going to make a career out of one song, this is the one song to do it with. It was first sung by the band back in 1966. The original recording made in 1965 did not even make a blip on the radar screen. Reg Presley made it his own. He died outside of London yesterday at the age of 71.
RIP Wild Thing...you made everything groovy! =)
ReplyDeleteI would...still would!...sing this to my niece and nephews (and other kids of close friends) when they were being wild. I also sang it to my great-niece.
Love the Mod look. I watched Quadrophenia after the Super Bowl and got off on the whole retro Mod thing.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great song, and is still considered cool! That's quite an accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteHe played a sweet potato!
ReplyDeleteLove that song...RIP
ReplyDeleteI never new that song was a cover.
ReplyDeleteHendrix used to do a great version of the tune also; but Sam Kinison's rendition will always be the best!
Good journey my friend.
ReplyDeleteOh and cancer SUCKS!!
ReplyDeleteAh man, RIP. I love The Troggs just because they wrote our wedding song ("Love is All Around".) We ended up using the cover by Wet Wet Wet because we wanted a slow first dance song. Very sad. :(
ReplyDeleteWow, so many men are dieing between 70 and 75!
ReplyDeleteRip reg!! Maybe now you'll find out if there really are UFOs out there :)
ReplyDelete*salute*
I bought a 45 of this single one summer while being stuck at my grandmother's house...she told me that the beat of the song made her think of a gorilla bouncing a basketball. Now that's automatically what I think of when I hear this song! Miss you, Grandma. And yes, cancer definitely needs to crawl in a hole and die.
ReplyDelete@Dulcinea - I love that story!!
ReplyDeleteIt was only 5 years ago I heard "A Girl Like You" by them for the first time. I couldn't believe that I had never heard it before. I think the Troggs are a little underrated - at least in my generation (x).
I sang this song at my cousin's wedding.
ReplyDeleteCraftyGirl - is that the same song Edwyin Collins sings? Had no idea it was a Troggs song.
Great Song!
ReplyDeleteToo bad I thought that was William Shatner at first. Sorry Reg, you don't deserve that.
Classic song most don't realize was written by Chip Voight, Jon's brother and Angelina's uncle. A talented songwriter and all-around great guy.
ReplyDeleteRIP Reg.
StewMcG - love that song! It reminds me of Love Actually. :)
ReplyDelete.way before my time but loved this when I was a kid...RIP Reg
