  1. I don't get the Ben hate for that comment. Marriage is work, even more so for a good one.

    1. They were both emotional and she looked really touched - I don't get the flap over it.

  2. Jane Fonda looks amazing....and ready to push Alexis Colby into a swimming pool at a cocktail party!

  3. Not trying to be snarky, but am I the only one who seems similarities between Jackman's wife and Cooper's mom?

  4. JANE FONDA'S FACE, nuff said.

  5. Salma looked awful, and it's the hair that ruined it. I wad mine up like that when I go to the gym.

    1. @Amber ITA agree about Salma. Since she's married to the guy that owns like every major fashion label in the world, the bar is set higher for her. And my first thought when I saw her outfit was "That's the best you can do?!" Channeling In Living Color: "Hated it!"

  6. I didn't find anything he said offensive - marriage is a work in progress. I think they know everyone talks about them and he was sort of putting some rumors to bed.

During the red carpet I thought the side view of Jen looked pregnant.

  7. What did Ben say?

  8. Marriage is work but its an unspoken rule in hollywood to not talk about it while accepting an award on stage in front of millions of viewers. I'm not condoning what he said, I thought it was really gutsy. I wish he would have called out his coproducer for stealing his shine.

  9. I loved what Ben said. I thought it was kind a sweet when he teared up too.

  10. Does anyone think Jen Garner looked pregnant last night?

Jane Fonda could run circles around most of young Hollywood. She's hot.

Amy Adams looked like a peacock.

WTF is Bradley Cooper's mom wearing?

Salma Hayek looked weird, like she did something to her face.

  11. He totally fucked up. The hilarious thing is he finally got rid off all the cheating stories, he's been on this Oscar campaign shoving his perfect family life in our faces for months now, and he just admitted there were issues and opened the floodgates for article after article now questioning the state of their marriage. You could almost see it on her face, she was like stfu. Lol.

And @cathy, you are totally right!!

    1. Onyx, what does ben's being a familyman have to do with winning oscar?

      Delete
  12. I thought Ben was nervous---and any marriage is work, and he slipped up and said it out loud at the Oscars. People just jump on it because of Affleck's past. He was referencing his own career redemption, and I think the personal redemption of his family was part of his 'theme'. I feel bad for Jen and him that people took at as meaning more than it did.

She supports his passions, she gave him 3 kids, he's thankful. Just badly worded imo.

  13. I love the color of Jen G.'s dress but hate the back/design of it. she still looks lovely though.

    Love Daniel Day Lewis-so distinguished.

  14. @VIP - I love you for that reference. I completely forgot about "Hated it!"

    ReplyDelete
  15. Actually, I thought Halle Berry stepped of the Dynasty set. Her dress looked like something Alexis would wear.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hated all the dresses here except Garner's.

I LOVE that Ben made the marriage comment. It IS hard work to keep a marriage working, and everyone who goes up there and pretends it isn't is a fucking liarmouth.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Jane Fonda looked awesome.

Could all the handsome men of Hollywood please shave by the end of the week. Thanks. Enough beards for this season, Spring is coming, set your faces freeeeeeee!!!

Robin Roberts, damn. I'm tired just thinking of what she's been through and she was there working, and WURKING!!!

  18. Is it me but it looks to me the Dress Amy Adam wore had been worn by SJP in one of the last episode of Sex ITC - the Ones in Paris? She wore this n felt asleep after being stood up by the Russian. Same color. Same frothy shape. I can't beleive am typing this. I need a life :-)

  19. I thought Ben's comments were sweet and genuine. He seemed really nervous and more than a little shell shocked by the whole thing. Given that he wasn't nominated for best director, and that historically, films that don't also receive a best director nomination, rarely win for best film, he seemed completely taken by surprise.

He is right, marriage is a lot of work, and anyone who would disagree has either never been married, or is divorced.

On a side note, I found it kind of odd that a film can receive a best picture nomination while the director is snubbed. Is it not in large part the director shapes a film? Guess he's still being punished for Gigli.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I admire Ben for his comments and, as a divorced woman, think it's very strong for him to come out and acknowledge the work that come in keeping a marriage together.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yup, co sign on the marriage is work comments. Ben was in the middle of speaking and Grant Heslov pushed him to the side and rambled on before 'presenting' him as the director. Yes we know he is the director. He doesn't need an intro after the Exec Producer thanks everyone in his life. We also know Ben was snubbed and so it was his moment to really bask in the achievement of making a great movie. To me it looked like Ben was so thrown off at being derailed that when he started to speak, he was nervous and and obviously pissed at the fact he might get the Jaws music. Such a shame. he really deserved that moment and he got screwed IMO. Jen seems to support him so I am sure she won't take offense.

  22. Anyone else have their mind blown when they realized that the other Argo producer was the cop from Black Sheep!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I've been liking Ben for some time now, no shame here- he's looking great as of late..anyhow, he further endeared himself to a lot of real marrieds like myself who wholeheartedly appreciated his candor.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I loveDaniel Day Lewis. His speech is always first rate. Such a well spoken gentleman.

Love Affeck too. So glad Argo won best pic. Deservedly so. I had to rewind his speech when he "thanked" his wife whose face changed from crying/emotional, to frozen/STFU expression. The producer was very kind in not showing her face as his speech went further. Marriage is works. Yes. But that was not the time nor place. Worst: he didn't say he love her. Only said he loved his kids. She must be so hurt.

But I do hope their marriage will be happy and long lasting because they both seem to really love their kids and care for each other. There are much temptation for Ben - even more so now with A to Z list starlets. But I do wish he sticks to his family and finds beauty, happiness and love in his marriage.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I thought it was endearing that Ben was a bit taken back that Argo won, especially since he was snubbed for Best Director. It made me like him a bit more since he was so honest and genuine. We need more of that in Hollywood. It was cute at the end when his voice cracked saying hello to his children.

I also thought Garner looked pregnant on the red carpet. I think it may have been the angle though.

    ReplyDelete
  26. While what he said was nice and completely true I got the impression that he was thanking everyone that worked on the movie and was saying "worked/working" a lot and speaking so fast that he said working on our marriage by accident and just went with it.

  27. Jane and Barbara had lots of work done on their faces.

Selma looked weird with that dress. Too much gold collar.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Amy Adams dress was done before and better by Penelope Cruz years back, but Amy still brought it! More than I can say for mademoiselle Hack-away.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jane Fonda looks really good - yes, she's had work done obviously, but you can tell that she also takes good care of herself - I think she looks fabulous!
I also don't think Ben said anything shocking, but I did go "AAAWWW" when he got choked up mentioning his kids.
Daniel Day Lewis had the most unexpected funny thank you speech!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ben sounded like he was on crack or just did a big fat line. Even the Opster said something about it. And yes, maybe he should have saved the working on the marriage comment for a personal interview and not an awards show. Just sayin'

  31. The director snub is going to be more common because the math doesn't work. 9 films are nominated for Best Picture & 5 directors are nominated. That means no matter what they decide at least 4 Best Picture directors are going to get snubbed. He got a nice consolation prize at the end of the ceremony.

  35. The full academy nominates the best picture candidates, and there can be as many as ten if they fit the minimum requirements. The directors' branch nominates their category and that might be part of the problem. For whatever reason, they didn't but Affleck on the ballot.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It was sweet when Ben tested up mentioning the kids!

Loved the color of Jen G's dress!

Mr. Curly thought Hugh's wife was his mom. Oops.

  37. Anonymous3:16 PM

I loved Robin Roberts dress. I thought the color and the draping were done beautifully.

On the Ben thing, eh it wasn't the most eloquent thing to say but prob from the heart and definetly not rehearsed which I appreciate.

Nicole Kidmans dress would of been better without the detailing on the bottom. Too busy. I thought Salma looked good I didn't love the dress but think she looked put together. Maybe it was because she followed Kstew my reaction was skewed. Amy Adams looked ridiculous. Every time they panned to her I felt an eye roll come on...

DDL was great and I thought Hugh and wife looked happy together.

  38. Judging by recent interviews, Ben really, really wanted that oscar. I'm glad he won, maybe some day I will see the movie.

Before the awards I saw the two of them on the red carpet and they seemed (to me) to be really engaging with each other. Looking at each other and smiling, etc.

Compare that with Michael Douglas and CZJ. She was just blathering along being interviewed, and acting as if she was on the red carpet all by herself.

    Quite a contrast.

  41. Wow- I am shocked by all the negative comments on Ben's speech! I LOVED it, and if I were Jen, or if my husband said that about me, I would be beyond grateful. He basically thanked her for putting up with him, for doing the work required of a solid marriage. They ARE work - if they are right and going to last. He loves his wife for being willing to do that required work. And he says, THERE IS NO ONE I WOULD RATHER WORK WITH. My gosh, what is so wrong with that? I thought it was honest, endearing and super sweet- and exactly the sentiment that needs to be at the heart of a couple determined to make it. Anyone who criticizes it I think misses the real point.. And either isn't married or divorced or will be...
Other comments: Charlize is ridiculously gorgeous and well spoken, I love jennifer lawrence- what a refreshing class act, Adele is a goddess, period, Catherine z-j is phenomenally egocentric and irritating, and that performance belonged in the year of Chicago, not now, Michael looked poorly botoxed, such that he had rake lines just above his brow, stopping at an even 1", George was smug, per usual, Rene looked drugged, Kristen Stewart looked like a snotty teen, nailing the coffin on any likability left, both jens (g &a) looked stunning, Seth was meh, jane shows the youngins how it's DONE, Salma needs a new stylist, if Ann Hath truly hated her crotch shot, why for fux sake did she wear that hideous, braless areole display, Hugh's wife was utterly charming on red carpet, i fell in total like of her, and she and Hugh seemed genuinely affectionate and lovey (this coming from someone who long figure him gay- made me rethink for first time. I honestly saw a real, honest, intimate bond). Keith urban seems really cool- and hot, Nicole was looking better again, wish she were nicer, too, queen is gorge, robin Roberts glowed brighter than anyone, daniel day is effortlessly charismatic- I love him like I love anthony Hopkins... I thought Michelle Obama was out of place, and jack should hang up his pervin' boots already. Does anyone NOT like robert de niro and Alan Arkin?!? Christopher plummer has a twinkle in his eye ... Am sure there is more, but I'll take a break ;)

Hugh and his wife look good together.
And Robin, girl you are to much!
P.S. Now I know why Bradley will be single for the rest of his life.

  43. If you saw the dress Jen changed into for the after party then you wouldn't think she was pregnant. It's just the cut of that dress. Her after party dress was flawless.

  44. RE Ben's speech comments - remember that there are cheating rumours going around. That might be why people are commenting on the phrasing.

That said, they've both been open about parenting/family life and work, and the resulting difficulties of balancing them. As much as one might think a star's life is so much easier with money and help and all that, I wouldn't want it in a million years. Standing on a red carpet only to have millions of people critiquing my dress choice - hell, no. This sensitive snowflake is glad for her out-of-the-limelight life.

I saw a pic of Coop's mom when DeNiro didn't win the Best Supporting Oscar. Priceless!

For all the crap Jane Fonda's gone through (health-wise), she looks mighty awesom. Go, Jane!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Marriage is work! I have no clue if there is cheating, or if there is some understanding between them, I really don't care. He was being honest. I love the color of Fonda's dress, I just didn't like the dress itself. The carpet was severely lacking color.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I love the colour of Jen G's dress but the cut was just so unflattering. I also didn't like the back of it. Good on her for wearing colour and choosing the colour so well, though!

I hate all the nude dresses. It's so rarely a good look.

Even though I would have loved to see more colour I really enjoyed Charlize and JLaw's dresses. I generally hate peplum and wedding dressish dresses, but they both looked great.

  47. Ha Ha Ha Cathy. I was just going to post that. Both attractive (real) women.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jane Fonda's dress is so trashy 80's. Do not like.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I loved Jen's dress, furbelows and all. Subtle from the front, romantically over the top from the back. And I gree, I thought he was saying tat she did the marriage work for both of them while he worked on the movie. I didn't see her face freeze. He knows he is grateful, I think, that his kids "know his name". Lovely.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Personally, I thought Ben came off as very endearing during his speech. It may not be in traditional Oscar fashion to say such things, but I appreciated his candor.

As for Jen being pregnant, this picture makes me think she's not and it's simply a combination of those ruffles and her stance that's deceiving in certain angles.

  53. Is it just me or does Amy's dress bear a striking resemblance to Kaley's 2012 SAG award dress. Not to mention, as others said above, Penelope Cruz, Carrie B and Alexa C, and Spanish actress Cayetana Guillen. It give me a nice giggle when I think of Amy being the copycat blind.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Good catch, JSierra!

I love Amy (except for Julie & Julia, hated that movie), but that dress was awful. Trumpet of the Swans, anyone?
