Kelly Clarkson And Clive Davis Hate Each Other

Remember a few years ago when Kelly Clarkson and Clive Davis took their feud public and Kelly said the whole thing was blown out of proportion and they really were good with each other? Yeah, well not so much anymore. Kelly took to her blog yesterday to try and set the record straight about Clive. As I told you yesterday, Clive's book and Clive is always about me me me and Clive's life is about the same thing. Musical genius? Absolutely. One to share credit? Nope. In his new book, Clive said that he wanted the song "Since You Been Gone," on Kelly's album and that she cried in his office and begged him not to put it on the album. Of course it became a huge hit and Clive wants all the credit for it. Kelly says that there was a difference over guitar sequences and she won the fight and the only time she cried was when she wanted, "Because Of You," on an album and Clive said no and called her a sh**ty writer. Clive didn't talk about that sing in his book. Want to know why not? Because he can't make himself look good. For his part, Clive says five people checked out every claim and just because their names are Clive, Clove, Cleve, Cluve and Cliff Claven, that should not bother anyone.

  1. I read her response on Dlisted and it was GOOD, especially her closing line. And I believe every word.

But I'm probably a little biased because I think Kelly Clarkson is adorable.

  3. I read Kelly's whole response, and a more complete version of what Clive said. Who knew Clive was such a bitch?! Definitely Team Kelly on this one!!

  4. Kelly is fabulous. I hope Clive doesn't try to blackball her or something for speaking her mind. Now off to read the full response. Links, Enty! Links!! You're paraphrasing doesn't always cut it.

  11. Also Team Kelly! She's the best and I totally believe her version of events over his.

  12. I wouldn't worry about Kelly being blackballed by Clive. Kelly is one of America's Sweethearts. She's got a great image, and keeps her nose clean. She also has a great voice, and America chose her so the people will stick up for her. She's in demand and Clive can't do a thing about it. She's too much of a money machine. He'd be a fool to take her down in her youth. He'll end up cutting his nose off to spite his face.

I think Clive is self absorbed and incredibly toxic.

  13. Team Kelly! Her best revenge was continued success. I totally believe Clive treats artists like this. He is a dick. He seems to know what he is doing for the most part, but still, a dick.

  14. Team Kelly! She's very talented, which is more than I can say for the likes of Rihanna, Britney, etc. I hope the Illuminati doesn't come after her!

  15. "shifty queen",I will always think of Clive this way:)

  16. I remember all the shit-talking about her My December album before it came out. I believe it even got pushed back, because the label didn't like it. They were saying that she chose to ignore them and write it on her own and that it was going to bomb.

  17. I like Kelly and believe her version of the events, but this is just a rehash of the old feud with no new information.

Clive treats his people as a commodity. I've always figured him for a self-loathing gay. Stuffs Barry Manilow in the closet. Yeah, I figured that one out as a kid. Says hell no to Robyn and Whitney. Gets pissy when Alicia Keys acts butch in interviews and is seen with a woman. She then starts appearing on the red carpet all glammed up in designer gowns. It's a business, and he knows what he is doing, but he seems to have crapped on a lot of people.

  18. clive davis is an evil man. i know he plays the benevolent puppet-master, but the man has done things in the course of his career that...wow, just wow. i fear for kelly bc she's genuinely talented--but you can bet there will be repercussions in the form of smear campaigns and god only knows what.

  19. Bahahaha!! Clive, Clove etc. brilliant!! I didn't realize Clive was so full of himself.

Yes, Kelly is such a shitty songwriter that she writes her own material and has massive hits and a continuing career.

"Because of You", I think, is a brilliant song, and it speaks to people who've lived with parental abuse of one form or another and how it affects us in later life. "Since You've been gone" was another massive hit about getting rid of someone toxic in one's life.

What a cruel thing to say to a musician.

  20. Clive thought he'd take Kelly down a few pegs in his book and she comes back with a blog that cuts him off at the knees.

Kelly's America's sweetheart and a mafia hit man all rolled up into one

  21. Because of You has made me cry one too many times (mom was an abusive alcoholic). I agree, @Tuxedo, that's really cruel. Her last line, damn, that was stealth ninja smack down!

  22. I thought it was such a box of bs that he purposefully mentioned her sobbing in a meeting (something she disputes) because he's trying to discredit her and make her out to be an emotional, hysterical woman who can't make the best decisions for herself. It's so paternalistic it makes me furious. She did the right thing setting the record straight, so to speak ;)

Clive is no saint, but Kelly can be an insufferable brat. Because America had a hand in choosing her, many think she's above reproach. She's got talent, but I'm not a fan.

  24. She should totally dedicate Since You've Been Gone to this douchebag the next time she performs it.

Agree with rexruther - The overly worded account of her "sobbing" in his office really piques my feminist rage. What an asshole.

The fact that he tries to beat down his artists' true persona is awful. He really is a puppetmaster. I would love to get some dirt from Alicia Keys.

  25. Go Team Kelly! Her response was really well-stated and I'm so glad she had the guts to go up against such a well-known man and tell her side. That takes courage to stand up to a guy of Clive's reputation, especially in a male-dominated world. Go girl!!!

I think Kelly is talking mostly because her contract with RCA is about to be up. She'll move on to another label, one without Clive around.

I think she makes some points with her statement, but 1) this is old news, their fight over My December is well-documented and 2) this new brush-up is coming as Clive is basically retired and Kelly will be moving on. Standing up to someone is easier when they're not in position to hurt you.

Not sure what purpose this serves for either, except to help Clive sell a few books.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Team Kelly of course!! She's complained before about not being able to put out the music she wanted before. And best line was "like a cigarette burn to Cilve's bald head" Hahahaha!!!

  28. I hate bullies!!! Good for Kelly for standing up for herself and owning her power. She has a great voice and is true to herself! She won't end up like Brit Brit and all the others who go crazy or turn to drugs.

It may be hard in the short term to stand up for yourself and say no, but your dignity is too precious to give away to some shifty queen! What an A**hole!

  29. Love Kelly! That Clive, Cleve, Clove stuff made me laugh Ent!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Team Kelly all the effing way! Her best decision was surrounding herself with supportive people... Reba, her husband manager. Blake Shelton looked like a proud papa when she accepted her grammy. Sorry, Clive. Your self-aggrandizing drivel made you look even smaller.

    ReplyDelete
  31. CLIFF CLAVEN!! My day is made :) God, sometimes I really miss Cheers.

    ReplyDelete
  32. WTH is wrong with Enty today? Enty keeps writing "on" when Enty really means "off". Clive said Kelly wanted Since You've Been Gone off the record; Kelly said Clive wanted Because Of You off the record.

And "Because he can't make himself look good" doesn't make sense in the context of this post. "Because he can't not make himself look good" or "Because he can't make himself look bad".

Bloody hell; hire a part time proof reader.

  33. I love Kelly Clarkson, I hate American Idol though. Hopefully this won't bite her in the ass. Yes, i love to see a good retort but hope this isn't something we see often. If you are too opinionated then you quickly become a bitch.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Good for Kelly! At least people will think twice about crossing her in the future since they know she has no qualms about letting shit out in the open.

And yes, it is incredibly mysogynistic to describe her as a sobbing brat just for putting her foot down as an artist. I find it funny that Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe, and Christian Bale are given passes for being passionate about their work, but if Kelly is willing to fight for it, then she's automatically a "sobbing wreck" - bullshit!

  35. I think Kelly has a great voice though I can usually take or leave her songs. But I am really impressed that a young woman without a lot of connections in the biz went up against a power broker--she was either very brave, foolhardy, or a combination of both. I have a lot of respect for her.

  36. I just think it's the kiss of death to win AI. With a few exceptions being Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. I always root for people NOT to win. Look at Daughtry, Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, Katherine McPhee.and even little minx Kellie Pickler they did not win and have pretty decent careers. When is the last time you have heard a hit song from Taylor Hicks? And the other winners elude me except for Fantasia. I was so hoping Philipx2 would not win because I really liked him.
Once you win AI, they own your ass and you have to do exactly what they say. I myself would love tobe on the show, sing some great song, get some awesome exposure and then get booted off. Then ink a deal that is more on my terms. AI is kinda becoming like the Disney or Nickelodeon for aspiring singers/rockstars.
Okay, rant is over! I hope everyone is having a beautiful morning!

  37. If she says Clive is lying in his book, just threaten to sue for slander and get a retraction.I believe that's what Nic Cage did to Kathleen Turner when ol' Jessica Rabbit describe him as an out of control during filmmaking.

Her response sounds like a "novel" chicks write to a guy when dude doesn't want to be bothered anymore...becoz he has other options on the side.
Clive is/was her boss so his opinion would matter when it comes to her songs.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Go Kelly! I had heard about this stuff before, but I am glad she went public. Why shouldn't't she tell her side, cheaper than a law suit & instantaneous. She is also great in concert.

  39. Love Kelly Clarkson and will always love Kelly Clarkson.
    Clive is a bitter betty.

  40. Wow. Tem Kelly 100000**%. Clive thought he could paint her as an overly emotional baby girl, and he came off sounding like a caddy troll. Is he not successful enough, dignified enough or person enough to stand tall and tell his story without sounding like a desperate real housewife trying to save his spot on garbage "reality" tv? Kelly's response sounded honest, factual and mature. I love that she stood up for herself not just in this response but also with her music. Maybe if more "artists" we're free to express their true selves and not pushed into manufactured pop images of some callous and greedy maestro's designs, there wouldn't be so many Whitneys, Michaels, Britneys, Xtinas, Demis, etc. resorting to drugs and worse to quiet their real feelings and voices and stay the confining show pony. My December wasn't my favorite album. So WHAT? Even my all-time hands down favorite musical legends have songs, albums even, I haven't loved, despite catalogues I generally worship. And, Kelly stepped up 10 places in my regard as a person for her guts to put HERself out there. We is incredibly fortunate for her talent and her gumption. It reminds me what Pink said: LA (Reid) told me, you'll be a pop star... You just have to change everything you are...(don't let me get me- GREAT song from an INCREDIBLE ARTIST and a truly AWESME and INSPIRING individual. Kelly had said at the time of this issue that all was cool, Clive took a low shot filled with exaggeration and inaccuracies, and she took a high road while still responding and setting things straight. She couldn't have handled this better in staying true to herself. Big hug and hats off to Ms. Clarkson. Well done. Clive she go join a purple haired knitting circle...

  43. Good for her for sticking for her ideas. As others said, hes a big blowhard ceo, its all about him. Yawn.

  44. I would imagine he resents her because she is an independent woman and because he didn't "discover" her--America did and he had to produce for her.

I think Kelly may be overstating that he "bullied" her--she seems to be fine and the reality is...they disagree. You can disagree with someone and fight about things and not have it be about bullying.

I've seen Clive on 2 talk shows the past two days--weird weird guy.

I like Kelly (except for that Ron Paul thing) and I think she is very talented and will do fine working with someone else.
