Japanese Pop Star Shaves Her Head After Walk Of Shame

In most parts of the world if a celebrity is caught doing a walk of shame, there is not usually any shame unless of course you are spotted coming out of Lindsay Lohan's house. Then you run with a paper bag over your head and hope no one spots you and your mother never finds out. In Japan, especially in certain pop groups, it can mean the end of your career. AKB48 pop star Minami Minegishi was caught doing a walk of shame from her boyfriend's house. One of the number one rules of the group is you are not allowed to have a boyfriend. So, actually coming out of your boyfriend's house after spending the night is frowned upon. So, Minami shaved her head and made a public apology and begged to be allowed to stay in the group. She has been demoted to trainee status for now.

  1. What about the boyftiend? Does he get censured? Why are they screwing with this girls head? What she did, up until head shaving, is normal. Jesus, relax!

  2. What is shameful about leaving your boyfriends house? No allowed to have a boyfriend? What an idiot----she should apply to work for GaGa....

  3. What in the actual hell..?

  4. This is absolutely ridiculous. There is no shame in leaving your boyfriend's house. The women in these pop groups have to appear asexual? What bullshit.

  5. It's a cultural thing. If she knew ahead of time that she wasn't allowed to have a boyfriend (I'm guessing it was so that the group could be promoted as a chaste example to their tween audience) then she should have been more discreet.

I don't agree, but it's better than seeing Bieber and Selena practically having sex in the ocean last year. That was just all sorts of gross.

  7. That poor girl. I know she broke the rules, but the hair-cutting seems to me to be an extreme form of self-punishment. I'm glad she's just demoted and not fired from the group, though.

  8. Just FYI, the group has 88 members.

  9. I am just happy she didn't commit harakiri

  10. Poor thing, she looks devastated. I feel bad for her :-(

On another note: With 88 people in the group will her demotion even be noticed?? And I refuse to believe that she is the insane one the group with a boyfriend. Totally ridiculous.

  11. *only, not insane

  12. Yeah PW, I was surprised too! They actually hold the world record for largest pop group. Plus it seems like they are Menudo-esque. Once the girls reach a certain age (early 20's) they are rotated out.
Reading the wiki it appears that it's so they can give concerts on the same day at different parts of the world.
Weirdness but I'm sure very lucrative, they have tons of hits overseas.

  13. S.joy I agree. Will it be noticed? It's not like a New Kid/Backstreet/Justin etc was kicked out of the group. Though it would have been funny back in the day if Justin was demoted to trainee for no other reason than the denim at the awards with Britney

  14. Japanese pop culture often ventures into the extremes... this is pretty tame compared to some of what comes out. Check out otaku.

  15. Otaku isn't really mainstream and Japanese celebs are completely controled and made into a sellable image. It is like old Hollywood and if you mess up they just find someone else.

  16. And now some promoter should swoop in and make her an international solo act. That would be bloody awesome!

  19. @ Ablake LOL I instantly cracked up when reading your comment... I remember the denim catastrophe like it was yesterday. Of course I had to go and find a pic.

  21. Nothing happen to the guy involved and the guy wasn't her bf apparently. They were just "friends". The guy involved is also a celebrity from a boy group but the dating policy under his management is more lenient.

As for her agency, her punishment from them was being demoted not getting her head shaved. There were dating controversies from other members in AKB48 in the past but the punishment is either getting demoted or leaving the group.

  22. wow, if we had this kind of rule here, we'd have a lot of bald musicians.

  23. Pfft. That'll teach her to slut around on her pop group.

Now let's go back to talking about Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian.

  24. The Japanese are cray cray.

  25. I always managed to avoid the walk of shame by making my men come to MY place - let THEM do the walk of shame!

  26. In Asian cultures being shamed and losing your honour IS a serious matter.People have even committed suicide rather than face humiliation and public shame or bring disgrace upon themselves or their family. It's a completely different culture.

  27. I hate this planet sometimes. Bless her heart.

  28. JC, what century are we living in again?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Poor girl Why the hell can't they have a boyfriend?? Is avoiding sex supposed to make them sound better? If that's true it would explain why Beiber is so awful

  30. I know this ain't why Brit shaved her head.

  31. Produced by Yasushi Akimoto, it is one of the highest-earning musical acts in the world, with 2011 record sales of over US$200 million in Japan alone.

I'm guessing it is a big deal over there considering they are so hugely popular. Poor girl.

  32. This just makes me sad that she felt compelled to do this.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Even though I can't stand AKB48, no one deserves this!

  34. I hate the sexism in Japan. The reason the girls have to stay chaste is because of their insane, obsessive MALE fans who think that the idols are their waifus or whatever.

Christmas Eve is traditionally a romantic holiday in Japan and these stupid assholes actually devote days to tracking down what the idols did that night - to make sure they weren't with a man - and disturbingly a lot of the idols go along with it and stay in public or post pics to prove they weren't with a guy. The otaku who are obsessed with them then check their statements and photos for inconsistencies.

It's exactly like old Hollywood in a lot of ways, but worse, because honour has so much more meaning in Japan than in the US.
