RIP. I like how the obit said that besides his sister, he was survived by New York City.
ReplyDelete@rejectedcarebear- That really was a nice touch in his obit. May he RIP.
ReplyDeleteI had no clue who he was until today. I live under a rock.
ReplyDeleteHeh, good line. RIP, Ed.
ReplyDeleteOh no. This makes me sad. Great mayor. :(
ReplyDeleteHe was truly one of a kind...Rest in peace Mr. Mayor.
ReplyDeleteRIP.
ReplyDeleteAw. I have fond memories of him from back in the day--sort of like an affable, wacky uncle.
ReplyDeleteRIP Mayor Koch.
ReplyDelete@puggle -- I'm guessing you are under 35? In the 80s, Koch was all over as mayor of NYC. I was a SoCal girl, but I still knew who he was. After that, I would imagine you only knew him if you were. People's court fan or more of a newsie/politico type.
ReplyDeleteRip Ed. You lived well.
Ahh this makes me sad, and I loved the 'survived by NY' line, very touching.
ReplyDeletesorry he has passed but the man was no saint to the gay community in the 70/80s so let's not canonize him just yet.
ReplyDeleteShame he never came out. RIP.
I grew up in NYC. Moved to CA in 1988. Ed Koch was the Mayor of my Childhood.
ReplyDeletejax, NO ONE was doing anything about AIDS in the early- mid 80's, because the Doctors who wanted to research it kept getting denied for funding. That was the REAGAN administration. He never MENTIONED AIDS in 8 years of office.
Koch is not blameless, but he wasn't evil.
HOW AM I DOING!?
ReplyDeleteI remember reading something a few years ago that Ed Koch emptied all the mental wards of non-paying patients and then said you had to be crazy to live on the streets of New York.
ReplyDeleteThat's how i'll remember Ed Koch
rip mayor koch
ReplyDeleteEd Koch was a true New York icon. I don't believe he was gay, but rather asexual. The only person he was ever linked to was Bess Myerson and they made it clear that it was just a beautiful, loving friendship. RIP Ed, you did great!
ReplyDeleteI have a badge in my parents' house that came from him. He was visiting Ireland & my dad was a cop assigned to guard him. It's a little red apple brooch. Small brush with fame :-)
