Diane Lane & Josh Brolin Call It Quits

After eight years together, Josh Brolin and Diane Lane have called it quits. The couple released a joint statement to US Weekly which said blah blah blah. Well, not exactly, but it was just as exciting. The statement did say the couple split a couple of months ago. I'm actually shocked Diane hung around as long as she did, but Josh was good for her in other ways that were not evident with his yelling and screaming and drunken arrests. Oh, and the bar fights.

  10. FINALLY! She should've dumped his ass a looooong time ago. Sadly I will always have a crush in Goonies-era Josh.

    3. Yeah but I know he consistently cheated on her. I'd see him at Martha's Vineyard with 20 something year okd girls during the summers!

  12. Excellent! I really like her, and he seems like such a douche. But how was he good for her? Stabilizing her in some way perhaps? Keeping her off some substance or other?

Not sure what enty is trying to say - but in general being part of a Hollywood Power Couple raises both people's profile higher than they would each have individually. That's how my mind was reading it.

  14. Never understood this couple, she seems nice and we know for a fact what an ass he is.

  15. Good for her!! I never got his appeal and an abusive drunk just has no appeal (stating the obvious, yes!).

And, hell yes, for Dragon scooping this for us!

  16. She's hot. That's all. I like them as couple until I heard how an ass he was to her.

  17. @ethorne. Brolin's step-mother is also Barbra Streisand.

  18. Good for her. I've always liked her (even though I don't know her) for some reason, I think she is absolutely gorgeous!!

    1. I'm newish around here, don't post all that much, just try to add in my limited experiences w some celebs, but I was in a very volatile marriage for many yrs, leaving, being found, getting forced back, over and over. If anyone really needs a place to stay in the ATL area due to this issue, please let me know. I will help. I was lucky.

Yes, she said on one of the posts either today or yesterday saying she's free and doing fine. Good for her!

  22. Anna was on yesterday Nellie and I meant to ask her if she left yet.

Glad Diane wised up. If the rumors of his abuse are true I wish her all the best staying the hell away from him. Although he is really good looking, someone who's horrid to women automatically get ugly in my view.

As for this couple, I'm actually sort of sad they split. Josh Brolin is definitely sort of a teenage crush for my generation. His dad, wow, what a hottie he turned out to be! I'll be we were all hoping Josh would turn out the same way. His dad landed Babs, FFS!
Anyway, sort of sad, but obviously it's necessary. Good luck to both of them!

  25. I can't wait to see what woman will inevitably hook up with him.

  26. He's a yool, and i have to say, its very hard gor me to like her or feel sympathy when for 8 years she has been going on and in about how great he was. Sickening!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm not sure he was abusive you guys. They got in a drunken fight early on in their marriage where they were both acting like nimrods. Not just him. That shit happens. I do like her a lot though. She's an amazing actress and beauty.

Woo Hoo! Me too! I left my abusive husband and am free as a bird. I'm happy for Diane, run fast and far. Nothing is worth that, and people don't change. Good for her.

Hi guys, I just read all your comments above wondering how I'm doing, and as stated above, am great! Loving life! Thanks again for the good wishes and concern. You guys rock.

  30. I do like her and I am glad she is rid of him. You know these relationships don't just happen out of thin air. He was probably rather charming at the beginning, and she didn't have the most stable childhood growing up. As time went on, if he was as abusive as has been hinted at, there was probably a lot of energy spent trying to deny that there were issues, trying to find some solution and lets face it when you are in a situation like this it can take a long time to see the light and realize that you ARE the solution. I don't feel the need to judge her. I'd rather high-five her and hope she has learned enough to make a better life for herself.

  31. So glad she got away if he is abusive. Nothing tears you down like being beat down (physically, mentally or/and emotionally) by someone you love with all of your heart. I wish her the best and hope her support network is surrounding her with love!

    Anna-I'm glad you got away.

  33. I don't believe he ever physically abused her. He can't. Not with those T-Rex arms of his. Don't like the guy and I don't get why women think he's hot. Was going to watch SNL and he was hosting. Would have changed the channel but couldn't stop watching when I noticed his T-Rex arms.

  34. Yay...Anna...happy for you and stay strong!!!

  35. "Josh was good for her in other ways..." Yes, and if you look near his hand in the photo you will see a portion of exactly what that was.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Heh @bob. I don't know, it would take a helluva more that an impressive unit to keep me with an abuser. Like a shock collar.

There's a lot of "why did she put upnw/that for so long" speculation, but remember, people in abuse situations don't always see it as abuse. They justify, excuse, explain - it's part & parcel of the abuse cycle. Abusers can be powerful in ways unfashionable to someone outside of the situation.

    ReplyDelete
  37. And autocorrects...

    More than
    Not unfashionable, unfathomable

  38. @seaward - that first word you posted is what I came in here to post, with the same punctuation, only I was singing it in my head. So Diane Lane will no longer be abused (I hope!).

  41. What?! only 8 years? Seemed like they were together for 15-20. And that appropriatly sounded like a prison sentence.

I wqent to high school with Diane while she dated my cousin. She was practically a member of my extended family for a brief time. We shared a holiday dinner.

My cousin was rarther wild but she never gave that vibe, and yes, Diane is very polite and kind in regular company (never hung with them otherwise). Josh seems to have nothing on my cousin but I doubt he ever abused her (she's not the kind to take that). She can take care of herself just fine.

Diane's childhood was relatively normal for a movie star growing up in NYC. I believe she was somewhat closer with her Dad, but she did change schools a bit. Very smart though; she got attended Hunter.

I was never a big fan of my cousin so I never liked Diane's choice of men, but it's her life not mine. I'm sure she'll find someone else pretty soon if she wants and wish her well.

  44. @ Anna - Good to hear your news. I hope each new day is better than the last one!

  45. @Anna - That's great to hear! I was wondering how you were doing after reading some of your posts. Stay safe!

Good for Diane! She seems like such a nice person and him, well, obviously not so much. I've never understood the attraction. And I totally get the bad boy thing, but him? Eh.

  46. @BettorOffSingle,

Wow, very cool that you went to school with her and she dated your cousin. I've always been interested in her story...she is two days younger than I am and I remember growing up seeing her on the magazine covers. She seemed so graceful at such a young age. I used to envy her and actually still do with regards to her poise and the persona that she shows to the world. Of course it's hard to say what someone is really like unless you know them quite well.

She did an interview in More magazine where she addressed her childhood and relationship with her father. From that it seems like she felt pushed towards acting rather than it being a natural process for her and if I remember the article correctly she seemed to get that push from her father. So it might not be such a stretch to say that she could attract controlling types and given some of the issues that JB has with drinking (those that have been publicized in the press) it would be easy to see that perhaps their relationship went down some dark alleys.

Regardless of what happened between the two of them, I hope she can pick up the pieces and move on to a happier place.

  47. Thank God. Diane is now safe and free of that creep. Was this the A list couple that was going to be breaking up? They must really hate each other to be calling it quits, less than a week before the Oscars.
