"Chicago" Cast Reuniting At Academy Awards
For the first time in ten years, Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Queen Latifah and Richard Gere will reunite on stage and perform a song from Chicago. They will do all of this at the Academy Awards where the movie won Best Picture a decade ago. The producers are not saying for sure whether the cast will sing, but why the announcement if they are just going to come out and utter a few poorly written lines about it.
@Henriette - you beat me to the question.
ReplyDeleteOh the difference 10 years makes.....
ReplyDeleteThanks Henriette. That was exactly my question.
ReplyDeleteI'll repeat it again. Why? Let. It. Go.
ReplyDeleteRichard G.should have been nominated for Arbitrage-awful big of him to even show up!
ReplyDeleteOdd, but intriguing. I hope they dance and sing and we can critique.
ReplyDeleteOk...so what?
ReplyDelete*yawn*
ReplyDeleteWhy? Because it's an audition. They all need jobs.
ReplyDeleteGoodness people! I let out a big ol' SQUEE!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with you grumpys!!!!!
Better than having to watch Liza & Michael York be young in Berlin again.
ReplyDelete@Reno, IKNOWMETOO!
ReplyDeleteI love Chicago. Own the movie, have seen it on B'way twice, own the soundtrack, etc., etc...
@Renoblondie - I loved this movie too. I don't like to watch award shows but I'll be looking for this on Youtube the next day.
ReplyDeleteReunions must be a theme for the show. They're supposedly bringing together all the James Bonds, as well as Shirley Bassey, who I think sang "Goldfinger."
ReplyDeleteI also love Chicago.
ReplyDeleteAnd, at least it's not AnnE.
This--Oscars® to Feature Tribute to Movie Musicals of the Last Decade--would be why. To quote the article: "The musical as a motion picture genre has had a remarkable renaissance in the last decade," said producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. "We are excited to showcase three musical films—‘Chicago,’ ‘Dreamgirls’ and ‘Les Misérables’— on our Oscar® show."
ReplyDeleteBTW, press release's URL indicates date of 25 January 2013.
ReplyDeleteI feel this is a sign that Les Miserables will overthrow Lincoln and Argo as best picture.
ReplyDeleteWhy? Why don't they have Hugh and the cast from Les Miz sing? I have no interest in CZ and her group --that movie is history.
ReplyDeleteIt kind of bugged me when CZ made that little singing joke when she presented at the award show--making it about her instead of this year's movies.

ReplyDelete@Renoblondee, this little drama geek's first thought was - I'm actually going to watch it this year JUST FOR THAT! Chicago was so awesome, perfectly cast and sung.
ReplyDeleteYipppeeee, I love it. now if they could get Pierce Brosnan to sing something from Mama Mia I'd be a happy woman.
ReplyDeleteI might watch the Oscars if Pierce Bronson shows up.
ReplyDeleteWhat I remember about the Chicago movie is that CZJ was criticized for being "fat", while RZ was rewarded for being anorexic. I think CZJ might have been pregnant during the filming -- in any event, the criticism played into ongoing struggles with her weight and mental health. Glad RZ seems happy outside of that culture with her new squeeze.
ReplyDelete@TLex - Yes. Though thought (and still think) RZ looked best in Bridget Jones' Diary...
ReplyDeleteI wasn't in love with the movie but did love the play and I like all the actors so good for them but I'm still not watching. The Oscars are always so boring and pretentious, a bunch of egos slapping each other on the back...blah!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear from some more Pierce singing fans. He was so criticized for his singing, but he sounded like Pierce Brosnan singing - nothing wrong with that.
ReplyDeleteSo they'll have this so that the show will run long and they'll cut acceptance speeches because of this.
I think CZJ was coming off a pregnancy when she filmed Chicago. She look good regardless.
CZJ was in her first trimester whilst filming Chicago.
ReplyDeleteYea, CZJ was a complete larda* in that one.

@Eve, they really are! I watch after-shows that highlight the stuff and rely on CDaNers for color commentary. Some people really like the before, during, and after - they are like real-time DVR and I love reading "XO's outfit is horrible!" and seeing said outfit the next day, or "She DID NOT just (say/wear/do) that" and reading about it later.
And finishing before hitting enter/send -
ReplyDeleteAll of you color commentary CDaNers - those of us who don't watch live say THANK YOU! (Well, me, anyway. I work during broadcasts so it's fun to have commentary from people I sorta know than from microphone heads & kneepad reports. :)
LOVE!! My favourite movie of all time :D!
