CBS Gets Puritanical About Grammy Awards
CBS has not come right out and said they will send you home or kick you out of the Grammy Awards if you show up looking like Lady GaGa does everytime she performs, but they have sent out letters to all the publicists and managers of all the artists that have been invited to the show and who are going to perform and basically they should plan on pretending it is an episode of Sister Wives. No exposed buttocks, genitals, side breast, nipples, see thru tops, and thongs. Oh, and the nipple restriction is only for the women. Feel free if you are man to come in no shirt and a pair of shorts. CBS loves that. Yes, the same network that religiously brings you 500 promotional commercials for months and airs the Victoria's Secret fashion show wants to make sure they have no reason to get any more nasty letters from media watchdog groups. Apparently Joe Flacco dropping an f bomb after the Super Bowl put them on edge. Apparently things are so bad that CBS wants to move CSI-Miami to Alaska so everyone can wear parkas the whole time.
Nipple double standards.
ReplyDeleteI think this is BS but at the same time I don't think anyone wants to see the Beavs jumping around in his bra and pantie matching set.
No one but Selena Gomez, JSierra.
DeleteWhile I hate being restricted they really can't depend on attendee's good judgement...that photo says it all.
ReplyDeleteOh, the humanity!
ReplyDeleteThat picture is horrifying!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a low point in Toni's career...trying to keep up with JLo at the time.Hate to see talented black women trying to OUThoe everyone else just to get attention:-(
DeleteYeah, I don't care about this. On one hand, I enjoy the day after photos to get to judge everyone for their poor choices, but on the other hand, COVER YOURSELVES. There are so many ways to look sexy without looking like a prostitute.
ReplyDeleteThat's a dress? I've worn more toilet paper out the back of my pants on that embarrassing occasion.
ReplyDeleteWhat is up with nipple standards? Why are women's nipples so gawdawful? I've seen a fella or two who could've worn a bra of mine easily. In fact, I would've preferred that they wear a parka or something!
I don't understand when it became okay to go to the Grammy's looking so tacky. I think of it as the equivalent of what an Oscar is to an actor/actress. Why not show up looking respectable to receive some recognition for what you do?
ReplyDeleteThat goes for both male and female musicians. The men show up looking just a bad.
I fully second what Karen said here ^. I'm a total idiot, but that's Toni Braxton up there, right? At first, I was thinking she looks like she escaped from the doctor's office in the paper dress they make you wear for your annual. Then I realized; it's not the paper dress - she's draped herself in the examining table paper and added a belt!!
ReplyDeleteIn what parallel dimension would you feel a-ok with strutting around in front of God and everybody in that get-up? I can't get my head around that!
But, on the other hand, I don't want to dress like that, but I don't give a hoot if other people do. I mean, don't get me wrong, the thought of being in a room full of scantily clad peeps conjures more unpleasant thoughts than pleasant ones (namely, body odors of all stripes), but what do I care if I'm not even there?? And my TV has an off button AND the channel changing ones, too!!
DeleteThat dress is from 13 years ago!!! We are becoming more and more uptight every year. It's the Grammys; wearing two pasties and a cork is totally acceptable attire
ReplyDeleteExactly. We are getting mad at toni braxton's butt and jennifer lopez side boobs years later! They probably don't even look like that anymore. Ha ha
DeleteYeah, I'm not grooving on the turn-back to Puritanical times. I'm more offended at the trashiness of the outfit than seeing skin.
ReplyDeletemy fav, "Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible “puffy” bare skin exposure." thank you.
ReplyDeleteThey should all wear burquas as a protest.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure they will all follow the list TO THE LETTER. There should be some interesting dresses this year!
ReplyDeleteDidn't the network get fined for Janet's nip slip?
DeleteWhy not let the Grammy give fine$ to the performers if they don't adhere to the dresscode.
Stripclubs get fined if the dancers aren't wearing pasties.
I find the Grammys to be the most entertaining show of the awards season. And honestly, Fashion Police is must-see TV.
ReplyDeleteI am not offended in the least by CBS's letter. Nor do I take it to mean that attendees need to rock Sister Wives attire. I think it is maybe their feeble attempt to class up the joint. And really, is it so wrong to expect people to dress nicely and not say fuck, fuck, fuck on a program that families are watching on national TV?
Am I the only one concerned about the sanitary issues here? Namely Rhianna's bare CB infected ass right on the theater seats? That has to be a bio-hazard right?
ReplyDeleteI think this is more about the attendees being on prime-time TV more than anything;it's the network covering THEIR ass. So to speak.
ReplyDeleteI blame JLo for most of the ills of the world, and tacky Grammy outfits are no exception. Every year has become a contest for most outrageously nude, to 'win' the news cycle the next day. Wasn't it the Grammys where JLo wore that green travesty? I always blame JLo.
@Libby, I loved when one of the South Park guys spoofed her green dress at another awards show. Hilarious! His attire was win of all dresses for that decade, IMO!
DeleteAlso I don't think they are trying to get their guests to be all puritanical, they are simply asking them not to wear clothing that exposes their genitals.
ReplyDeleteIt's so ridiculous that they even have to put this out there but if they don't some idiot will try and take it some extreme that really shouldn't be seen on television.
Yes, Eleanor--and the other guy wore a copy a Gwynnie's pink Oscar dress. I remember the camera cutting away any time they were noticed in frame. Hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI always remember about that green dress because when I saw JLo in it I thought, "Hey, I've seen that somewhere before!" Well, I had a copy of Cosmo from a few months before and I found it in there being modeled. Hence, making me never really understanding the big deal of that dress. True story. The end.
ReplyDeleteThe green Versace dress was actually supposed to be "luxury beachwear". Also, aside from the ads, JLo was the 3rd person to wear it in public. That's kind of a no-no.
ReplyDeleteAside from those trying to "shock", I don't think CBS has much to worry about. Fashion isn't really in a place right now where everything's hangin' out all over the place.
Seems silly seeing as they also air the vs show.
ReplyDeleteThat Toni Braxton dress is a nightmare! I wonder if they're tempting fate though, musicians are usually rebellious, I could see someone really pushing the boundary of good taste BECAUSE the letter was sent.
Should make for a good Fashion Police
YES! Victoria's Secret fashion show, have you seen that?! They were wearing less clothing than this picture and CBS is totally OK with it.
ReplyDeleteHAHA@JSierra, that's a hilarious mental image!
Could the difference be that the VS Fashion show is taped, and can be played after 9 in all time zones, while the Grammys is LIVE, and on really early out West?
ReplyDeleteThey don't tape-delay awards shows out West, right? My relatives in CA don't watch award shows, I've never asked.
But I do think the VS Fashion Show is a joke of a travesty for prime time network tv.
I am correct--the VS fashion show isn't live, right?
No Libby it isn't live. They edit out all the buttcrack and nip slips beforehand :)
ReplyDeleteIt wouldnt kill any of them, male or female, to dress nicely for once.
ReplyDeleteI borrowed Rose Mcgowan's black net dress just for the Grammys, and damn it I will wear it, puffy genetalia or not.
ReplyDeleteLibby: Yes it was JLo and then the Southpark Boys made fun of her..That was the best!
ReplyDeleteNothing puffy? Ok.
No need to bring Flacco into this Ent.
ReplyDeleteBesides if you watch the clip, they caught that right after he won, when he was talking to a teammate. He wasn't even aware that the reporter was there. It's not like he did it in an interview
/No Raven's hate allowed on my watch ;)
Enty CSI Miami was cancelled some time ago. What the Grammy needs to do is start shopping for another network. I know the Grammys are supposed to be like the Oscars of the music world but come on. Well there's always the MTV Awards.
ReplyDelete@Me - "puffy" bare skin exposure was my favorite part, as well.
ReplyDeleteHey, CBS cares, guys.
I think them asking the celebs/musicians to follow a dress code is just asking for trouble. Should be an interesting watch to see what they do.
There's nothing rock and roll about dress codes. Lame.
ReplyDeleteI don't know, I'm tired of seeing the sides of Kesha's hooha, but that's just me, and I've got TiVo. I can always fast forward through anything I don't want to see. Of course I won't. I'll look and LMFAO.
ReplyDeleteNothing is truly LIVE anymore since Nipple-Gate at the Superbowl. I think there's between a 3-5 minute delay on any "live" show but I could be wrong with that time period - anyone know for sure?
