Amy Locane Sentenced To Three Years In Jail

Amy Locane of Melrose Place fame was sentenced yesterday in her vehicular homicide conviction and received 3 years in jail. Combined with time off for good behavior and the 81 days she will be credited, Amy will probably get out of jail in a little over 2 years. As you can imagine, the family of the person she killed are not happy. They had expected and wanted the judge to sentence Amy to the maximum of ten years. The judge gave her a break because one of Amy's kids has a serious medical and mental disability and would suffer more if Amy is in jail.

  5. Makes me think of Matthew Broderick and the two Irish people he killed. No consequence for him. She should have gotten the max, imo.

  6. @Lotta, her blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit at the time. The crash killed a 60-year-old woman and seriously injured the woman's husband.

  7. Good to know that if I am black out wasted and kill someone, I won't be spending too much time in jail.

Oh wait, I'm not famous so those fancy rules don't apply to me.

  9. My friend lives in Hopewell and knows Amy, I remember when the accident happened because I was visiting my friend at the time. Before killing the women she also rear ended another car and left the scene.

  11. Wow, I'm sure the deceased's daughter would like some help from her mom, but that ain't gonna happen, is it?

Never understood why Broderick got a pass for his accident in Ireland. I did read that he went back years later and met with the families...which is something, I guess.

  13. Oh and the best, the defense actually tried to blame the husband since he made the left hand turn into his driveway thus crossing the lane Amy was traveling in (mind you she was also going 53 in a 35mph zone) when she had the right away. Not that her blood alcohol was almost .24, not that she rear ended another car (she also blamed them for going so fast as they were following her trying to get her to pull over) no it was everyone elses fault.

I do remember the Broderick story. Really sad! but I don't think he was intoxicated. I might be wrong but I don't remember hearing that at the time. It was just an unavoidbale accident..again I think but I do recall him dating Jennifer Grey at the time and apparently she was in the car with him when it happened.

    ReplyDelete
  16. If she had not hit that other car beforehand, she could have plead out for 3-6 months and might have been acquitted if she'd gone to trial.

  17. "Makes me think of Matthew Broderick and the two Irish people he killed. No consequence for him. She should have gotten the max, imo."

But Matthew wasn't drunk, was he? IIRC, Jennifer Grey was with him in the car as they were dating at the time, but it was merely an accident. That's different to me than driving while intoxicated.

  18. I don't remember all the specifics about Matthew Broderick's accident, but I do recall that Jennifer Grey was with him, and that he wasn't driving drunk--it was just a horrible accident, pure and simple. That's a very different issue from getting drunk, smashing up several cars, killing someone, and leaving the scene. (From what I've seen, leaving the scene will get you nailed much harder than if you'd stuck around, even if you are drunk. I don't think I need to remind anyone here not to do such a thing, though...)

  19. Amy Locane was on maybe the first season of the original Melrose Place, and was gone. I mean she wasn't even part of the cast for the years it really took off and is best known for. And that was so long ago now. It's unbelievable that she's still getting special treatment or is considered a celebrity of any sort by virtue of that one maybe 12-episode run.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I mean Amy Locane is like that guy who married Courtney Stodden and all the original headlines said he was a star from Lost. He played some minor character who appeared in a handful of episodes.

    ReplyDelete
  21. here is an article from People about it. He wasn't driving drunk, just American and a bit arrogant for not heeding a Police man's advice for proper directions. This was way before the TMZ era and I think Matthew was lucky to not be charged with negligence.

  22. and here is more recent wiki info about the Broderick crash. Seems he was charged and it was pled down to a lesser charge. Star power!

On August 5, 1987, Broderick was in a car accident in Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, while vacationing with Jennifer Grey, whom he had begun dating in semi-secrecy during the filming of Ferris Bueller's Day Off. The accident, which was the event through which their relationship became public, occurred when the rented BMW Broderick was driving crossed into the wrong lane and collided head-on with a Volvo driven by a local mother and daughter, Anna Gallagher 28, and Margaret Doherty 63, who were killed instantly in the accident. Broderick suffered a fractured leg, fractured ribs, a concussion, and a collapsed lung. Grey received minor injuries, including severe whiplash. Broderick told authorities he had no recollection of the crash and did not know why he was in the wrong lane. "I don't remember the day. I don't remember even getting up in the morning. I don't remember making my bed. What I first remember is waking up in the hospital, with a very strange feeling going on in my leg," he said at the time. Broderick was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and faced up to five years behind bars, but was later convicted of the lesser charge of careless driving and fined $175,[10][11][12][13] which the victims' family called "a travesty of justice." Martin Doherty, whose sister and mother were killed in the crash, later stated that he forgave Broderick, amid plans to meet with Broderick in 2003, in order to gain a sense of closure. As of 2013, the meeting has not taken place.[14]

  26. A couple of things, I am so sure the parents of the deceased are cool with her not doing too much time due to Amy's child having medical and mental issues. Like that's their problem. Amy is still getting off better than Chris Brown! It's okay to kill, just not beat that shit out of a woman.

Or if Amy Locane with her fine skinny ass ran over and killed you because she wasn't sober. This would make news not because someone died but because Amy is a fine ass WW.Not if Amy hit/ran a damn dog, more attention would come because whitefolks love their animals more than their fellow human being.

Had she killed herself they would have been without her anyway. I guess since she only killed someone else it's easy to worry about her children now. The judge was wrong in my opinion.

  31. The public seems to need a scapegoat. I don't think that Amy Locane will be a scapegoat. Lizzie Grubman was for a couple of months.

Right now it's Chris Brown. He is the reference for every piece of domestic violence that happens. LeAnn Rimes is another one. As annoying as she is, she seems to be the reference point for infidelity. Angelina Jolie must thank her lucky stars every day for LeAnn's existence, because before LeAnn came along, it was Angelina.

I thought that one common thread between these people is that they have never made a public apology, or seemed remorseful. Chris Brown did offer an extensive public apology back in 2009. I had not realized this.

Warning: this link does not open a new window, it is in the same one. Just to let you know in case you don't have 'back' capability.

  36. If had been at the height of her fame instead of dropping back to D-list, she probably would have just got probation. As Lohan shows, the more famous you are, the less time punishment you get. If anyone of us did any one of these things these people get busted, we would have done serious time and completely screwed our financial futures. They do something and it actually makes them more money. (Betcha Locane shops a book around in two years)

  37. timebob, thanks. A little under the weather. August 5, 1987, Broderick was holidaying with then fiancee Jennifer Grey, of Dirty Dancing, when his BMW crashed head-on with a car carrying Anna Gallagher, 30, and her wheelchair-bound mother Margaret, 63.

He was driving on the wrong side of the road and both Anna and her mother died.

Martin Doherty, who lost his mum and sister on that day, and who has been confined to a wheelchair since contracting an undiagnosed illness, said: "Of course you wonder if he got off lightly because of who he was."

"He got the same punishment he would have got if he'd run over cattle".

I think there was a lot of payola to authorities on this one to get the lesser charge. He could have faced up to five years in jail for causing death by reckless driving.

  38. re: Broderick accident, I didn't realize that Dirty Dancing came out days after the accident. Jennifer Gray was in a difficult position, thrust in the spotlight while probably suffering PTSD from the accident. Never been a fan of hers, but reading about that put her in a new light for me.
