Your Turn
Best sing a long song. You can turn it on the radio or at a club and everyone will know the words and sing.

"Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond. Or, more currently, "Hot Cheetos and Takis" - in Minneapolis at least.
American Pie and Bohemian Rhapsody. Hands down.
We are the champions! Not best sing a long but everyone knows this song.
Careless Whisper
Oh, wait. Duh. Summer of '69.
I was on a trip once with my youth group (don't judge) and we went to some fast food place with a jukebox. I played Summer and almost everybody in the restaurant started singing. It was awesome.
Baby Got Back.
Oh and BTW, I LOVE YOUR TURN :)
@Roman, that is the best sing a long at any sporting event. The minute it comes on everyone starts singing.
Push It, Salt N Pepa.
@ LottaC - and no matter what team you route for everybody always thinks it's about his/her team :)
Total Eclipse of the Heart
I Will Survive
Bohemian Rhapsody
Build me Up Buttercup
Piano Man
Sweet Caroline
That one part of "End of the World (as we know it)" by REM where they sing "LEONARD BERNSTEIN!"
Everyone knows Country Roads
also
Sweet Home Alabama
agree with Hey Jude. Although American Pie and Jessie's Girl are in the top 10.
Summer In The City
For me it's New York, New York by Sinatra. NYE in Times Square and Yankees Stadium EVERYONE sings along.
I have this kids song stuck in my head today. At least it's a happy song ;)
Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah
FREE BIRD!!!!!!!
Sweet Home Alabama
Sympathy For The Devil
Piano Man
Now I'm gonna have some great songs stuck in my head today.
Working class man
Who Let the Dogs Out.
I find singalongs mostly awkward, but I can't keep quiet if Sweet Caroline comes on. Or Take On Me (sadly).
My favourite thing ever is when "Crosstown Traffic" comes on the radio, and guys sing along with the guitar doodle in the beginning. It's quite charming.
Last Dance - Donna Summer
Benny and the Jets - Elton
God I hate that song!!!
David Allen Coe, "You Never Even Called Me by My Name" when in a c/w bar.
However, if it's a gay c/w bar, "Looking for a City" by Vestal Goodman.
In that same vein, "Dark Lady" by Cher when in any gay bar.
Khe San!!!
Macarena
This!
LOL FSP. I didn't know it had words. I was always too drunk ;)
Come On Eileen and Margaritaville...
Lots of good ones in here, I'll add Hey Ya. That song transcended genres and social groups when I was in high school.
I've never seen anyone sing along with Sweet Caroline.
We had a kid from a 3rd world country stay with us, and I said goodbye with a card that had the song "Hoop there it is", and he went crazy. No matter what continent, everyone knows that.
For me, it's always going to be FEELINGS, wowowowowo, FEELINGS!
Shoop by Salt N Pepa
@PotPourri - come to Minnesota. People here LOOOOOOOVE "Sweet Caroline". There used to be a bar downtown Mpls that played that as the last song of the night every night.
Faith No More- Epic. It's impossible to listen and not sing along. Impossible I tell ya.
Journey's "Don't Stop Believin" and for the clubs - that Usher song "Yeah" and 50 Cent - that one song (forgot the name).
Faith No More- Epic. It's impossible to listen and not sing along. Impossible I tell ya.
Ooh....I love FNM!
Bohemian Rhapsody
Hurts so Good - Mellencamp
Oooh or I Love Rock n Roll - Joan Jett
In this town it would be Old Time Rock & Roll
"The way I are" by Timbaland
Sexual Healing! Rapper's delight!
Born in the USA, oh there are too many.
@Mary.....YES
Bohemian Rhapsody
Tiny Dancer
@ccruz....YES
I like big butts and I cannot lie!
I have no idea who sang that, but it was the one episode of Friends that had me in tears.
@mmarriort....YES
As a Jersey Girl, I would hands down say Rosalita and Livin' on a Prayer.
Cecelia by Simon and Garfunkel is a personal fave.
Oh what about Celebration by Kool and the gang! Played at every party that ever was.....
Yellow Submarine, Beatles.
Fresh Prince theme.
Friends visiting New Zealand started singing it on a bus and by the end, EVERYONE had joined in.
Jack & Diane.
Also as someone mentioned, Come On Eileen.
Louie Louie
Sweet Caroline is big only in certain parts of the country. Similar to Thank God I'm a Country Boy
@ Susan
Livin on a Prayer was my second choice. I'm a Jersey Girl too. It's in our blood
I love Bon Jovi! My 4-year old son is currently obsessed with "Livin on a Prayer" he makes me play the song on repeat in the car. ;-)
@Thea812 Seconded and thirded!
Now I feel I've got run away, I've got to get away from the pain you drive into the heart of me...
*snort* I have a friend who only has to read the first four words on that song and will wind up with it stuck in her head for days. Oh Jenni, this one's for you.
Time can never mend...
ALL OF THEM. Spice Up Your Life especially.
I just love singing, I don't shut the fuck up. But I don't not sing while fucking a la Zooey D.
I can't even read this post without breaking into a medley of everyone's sing along songs.
Daydream Believer.
Daydream Believer.
"Margaritaville." But I'm biased.
"Sweet Caroline" and "Hey Jude" work well, too. Props to Jersey Girl Susan for "Rosalita," too!
Wake me up before you go go or else Borderline. Yes I was a (very small) child of the 80's.
Haha. I'm pretty sure most of these songs would never be played at a club unless it was a 60 and over place. Umm, maybe something cheesy like "You spin me right round" or "Baby got back"
Sister Christian
Walking on Sunshine (ug!)
Jessie' Girl
Enter Sandman AND
Happy Birthday to You!
I'm so happy there were a few other mentions of Baby Got Back!! C'mon, you know you ALL know it...
@Flo, since Enty asked for songs that "everyone" would know the words to, I understood it to mean songs that transcend generational lines.
My Girl.
Shoop by Salt n Pepa ----
any song lyric that can work in "I wanna thank your mother for a butt like that" has my vote
My husband has been in covers bands for years here (Australia) and in NZ, and every single time everyone sings along to Sweet Home Alabama, My Sharona and anything by Metallica.
I'm with Roman Holiday...Celebration...
Recently started playing Somg Pop - updated version of Name that Tune.
Journey Songs, Air Supply and Billy Joel are the easiest for me to pick up. Had no idea I knew so much Billy Joel, but w/2 much older sisters, their music taste spilled over...lol
And, I hate to admit it but 2 of Taylor Swift's songs from Fearless...the one about the next door neighbor and the Romeo/Juliet one...Sigh...
Like a Virgin
Tainted Love
Freebird
All of the songs above. Music is so powerful and I don't think we should have to decide on ONE particular song. Everyones pick is...Supercalafragelistic..Music is love!
Oh and OT, that new show 'The Carrie Diaries' has a soundtrack to die for! All '80's!
And I left out - all my friends know the same songs. Air Supply is so repetitive that they are easy to pick up - oh and one other - the Grease soundtrack!! Lol
LMFAO "Party Rock" Anthem
We are the Champions, Bohemnian Rhapsody, New York, New York, and We Are Family at almost every wedding you go to.
If you live in Boston and/or follow the Red Sox, you're ALL too familiar w/"Sweet Caroline", I assure you...
Agree w/"Bohemian Rhapsody"; that's probably the all-time champ, esp. for people my age or who were old enough when Wayne's World came out.
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
I'm surprised no one has mentioned "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." Ladies, when you have a certain amount of alcohol in you the words just come naturally (along with some gibberish.)
I was at an event on New Year's eve at Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. The cover band started playing Joan Jett's "I love rock 'n' roll" and the entire place, with about 1,000 guests, went crazy singing and every server was dancing and singing around the tables. It was impressive when you consider that Atlantis has guests there from all over the world, and all of the staff are Bahamian.
I can still only sing it as "badadoosh, badadoosh, do the fandango!"
Gah, J - me, too. They are all stuck in my head!
I'm gonna go with
Crazy or Cryin-Aerosmith
Fly away-Lenny Kravitz
Bullet with Butterfly Wings-Smashing Pumpkins(my kids call it the Whale War song)
Hey Jealousy-Gin Blossoms
@prolixe - Sir Mix-a-lot sang "Baby got back" aka I like big butts.
Big Jamie Summers fan, huh?
So, dating myself with that one.
Tom Petty's "American Girl".
@Liv - that only makes me think of "Silence Of The Lambs" now...*L*
I can not believe nobody mentioned "Mony Mony".
Love is a Battlefield - Joan Jett
...oh and also: Take on Me by a-HA
"I've Got Friends in Low Places" -Garth Brooks
"Ice Ice Baby" -Vanilla Ice
Kick by INXS
@Cay....not Joan Jett. Pat benetar
"Pip" and I have performed our choreographed version of Livin on a Prayer across the world, and peeps always sing along. I'm going with the Jersey girls upthread - LIVIN ON A PRAYER!
Love it!
Hey Jude - it's easy!
Bohemian Like You
That's What I Like About You
different strokes theme song
Paradise by the Dashboard Light.
Oh yes!!
Is this the real life, or is it just fantasy? Caught in a landslide no escape from reality. Open your eyes, look up to the skies and seeeeeeeeeee. I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy. Because I'm easy come, easy go, little high, little low. Any way the blows, doesn't really matter to me. To meeeeeeeee
The other night for the first time in a long time I had music playing while gettin' busy with the man. I started singing to every song. Thought of the Zooey blind, started to laugh and things got awkward from there on.
Forever and ever I will head bang to this song. I love you Wayans World for bringing that simple pleasure to my life. And Garth just moving his mouth not knowing the words when their singing doesn't really matter, anyone can see, I've based my life existence off of that moment.
You Give Love...A Bad Name!
Me, too!!!
You got it!
I Will Survive.....
I Will Survive.....
I Will Survive.....
@auntliddy - I agree! American Pie
Amie, what you wanna do... Pure Prairie League
True story, as embarrassing as it is:
I was at a biergarten in Germany with a bunch of other college students and there was a band in lederhosen playing German beer drinking songs that most of our group didn't know. We tried to find a song that we could all sing along to (and by then we were all pretty drunk-- the beer steins are HUGE) and after muddling through a bunch of songs the only song that EVERYONE knew the words to were the lyrics for the theme song to The Beverly Hillbillies.
No wonder this country is in such a mess.
Three Little Birds- Bob Marley
Got to Give It Up- Marvin Gaye
I can't believe no one mentioned It Takes Two:
I wanna rock right now
I'm Rob Base and I came to get down..
Piano Man
Bust A Move
I can't believe no one mentioned It Takes Two:
I wanna rock right now
I'm Rob Base and I came to get down..
Friends in Low Places
@Green Wave Gal
I'm not internationally known
But I'm known to rock the microphone!
I get stupid. I mean outrageous.
Stay away from me if you're contagious.
Oh I could go on...but I'm laughing too hard to type!
Only because I don't think there's anyone who hasn't heard it, doesn't knows the words, or hasn't sung along with it at least once..
I Got You Babe - Sonny & Cher
Rock Me Gently - Andy Kim
Beat it- Michael Jackson. Or Purple rain- prince
I just thought of another
Billy ray Cyrus- Achy Breaky heart
Because Lynn picked Purple Rain...
Karma Chameleon-Culture Club
True- Spandau Ballet
I Love Rock n Roll -Joan Jett
Bohemian Rhapsody FTW.
we lived in a condo when we were first married (before i knew he was lying whore). on sunday mornings one of our neighbors would BLAST "sweet caroline" and sing along. so one time we joined them. they never did that again. guess i had thoughts of the whole complex joining in. makes me smile everytime i hear it now, and i think of that sing-a-long.
Ahhh, You Never Even Called Me By My Name is the closing song at one of my favorite bars.
Don't Stop Believin
Wonderwall
Old Time Rock n Roll
@Green Wave Gal, I LOVE that song! (Check! Woo!) ;)
Yes! That's what I was thinking!
Landslide...
Seriously. Turn it on at any dive bar or while on a road trip and everyone over 30 will sing along and anyone with taste under 30 will join in...
Best song to sing AND dance to is "Twist and Shout" by the Beatles.
Lelain Pierce will like this one: "Tempted" by Squeeze.
The Lion Sleeps tonight. Once took and admittingly drunk bus ride home with my pals and started singing the main part and over the speaker system the driver chimes in with the "a whimba way" bit. Great moment.
@Maja - Ooh good one! Love every song on the soundtrack! ;-)
