Jodie Foster told the world during the Golden Globes that she is gay even though everyone already knew it. I think everyone pretty much knew Victor Garber was gay, but he had not made it official until an interview this past week which was just published. Victor, in response to a question confirmed he is gay and that he lives with his long time boyfriend Rainer Andreesen. Maybe Golden Globes time will turn out to be like the Hollywood version of Pride where everyone comes out and each year we can look forward to more people being true to themselves and open and sharing so that less people have to hide or be scared for who they are.
That would be awesome! Hopefully one day people don't need to come out anymore, but it doesn't matter who you fall in love with. I didn't have to come out as straight, it shouldn't be something that defines you and labels you. It is a beautiful part of who you are.

ReplyDeleteHe actually came out awhile ago. He's been with his partner for 13 years and he's always taken him to events and red carpet premieres. It's never been a secret, but he's such a private person he never saw the need to "come out" to the media. Both Garber and his partner are the godparents toViolet Affleck.

True, it was sort of an open secret, but the more people that are proud and admit it, the easier it will be on the others and help everyone to accept it and realise that it's ok. Crossdressing too by the way.

LOVE Victor Garber in "Sweeney Todd"---He played the romantic hero, it was when he was in his 20's. SO AWESOME.
He also had my favorite line in "Titanic"--'She's made of iron, sir, I assure you she WILL sink' (or some such).
He is SO hot. I think modern women easily look past gayness, and still fantasize. I hope this helps others come out.

That same posted also said that Seraphina was the product of an affair with a surfer, hence the name.

ReplyDeleteI like him also for his close relationship with Mrs. Affleck. They seem like two intelligent people who have been solid friends for years. I like that Ben cast him in "Argo". He was perfect as the Canadian ambassador.
I remember meeting him years ago he was very shy and polite and I was thinking its Liberace, I thought he was brilliant in that role.

Half the time I don't know if an actor or actress I'm watching is single or married, let alone his/her sexual orientation. Who cares? To anyone who says they see the character differently if they know the actor/actress isn't hetero? I say watch one episode of "How I Met Your Mother" and tell me you don't buy NPH as Barney Stinson, ladies man.
I didn't know he was gay! OR Canadian! Bad canuck. I love him, though, my favourite will always be the scene in Titanic where he goes down with the ship.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the reason headlining stars that have to carry the movie have so much trouble is that people tend to think they are like their characters and it would be too hard to imagine gay playing straight, etc. Like in the way that Tom Hanks usually plays someone really likeable or Denzel Washington plays someone really serious. After approximately 100 films like that, you assume they are really likeable and / or serious. But make out with one dude! And some people will just not look past it. Personally, I think dudes making out is hot, but that's just me.
A friend of mine had dinner with VG and a bunch of other theatre folk a couple of years ago. He said he was utterly charming and down to earth. It was known then that he was quietly out.
