It was only 8 months ago that Timothy Busfield went on a date with a woman in Los Angeles and the next day was being accused of sexual assault. Now the actor is engaged to Melissa Gilbert. Timothy was cleared of the sexual assault charges after prosecutors decided there was not enough evidence that Timothy had groped the woman's breasts and genital area without her permission. It is tough to prove a crime like that. Melissa must have liked him though and I guess their dates went better than that one in May. I wonder if he had not been cleared if Melissa would be getting engaged to him.

The crew on The Byrds of Paradise (where Busfield played JLH's father) simply did their best to make sure that he was never alone with her. The show was canceled pretty early on (maybe after one season?) so nothing ever happened.

I know at least 5 men who have been falsely accused. It happens more than people want to think. I've seen Melissa in interviews and she sounds very down to earth and seems to be a good mother. I guess she believes him, or that the woman exaggerated.

I realize that unfortunately, there are women who will make up something that horrible and who will accuse someone who is totally innocent of something so damaging. But there are also thousands of cases that did happen and were dismissed by the police. How can we expect our sisters and daughters to report being raped or molested when most of them feel that no one will believe them, especially when they go to the people in power for help and those people tell them that what they are saying is lies.

I typically like just curious posts and enjoy reading and responding to them, so maybe I was a little harsh in my previous comment and trolling was too strong a word. But as someone who has been in that position, I took extreme offense to that and felt the need to comment.
When someone is accused, and doesnt get charged, it means there wasnt enough proof to proscecute the case. Thats all. Has no bearing on on guilt or innocence; simply not enough proof to go to court with.
