Jim Nabors aka Gomer Pyle Gets Married To Boyfriend Of 38 Years
Despite being out to friends and co-workers, it was not until yesterday that Jim Nabors officially came out to the world. At the age of 82 he decided it was time. He also told a Hawaii news station that he married his boyfriend of 38 years last week in Seattle where it is now legal for gay people to get married. "I'm 82 and he's in his 60's(64) and so we've been together for 38 years and I'm not ashamed of people knowing, it's just that it was such a personal thing, I didn't tell anybody. I'm very happy that I've had a partner of 38 years and I feel very blessed. And, what can I tell you, I'm just very happy."
he also said that he had to do something because of his age and he didn't want his partner to have problems after Jim died and figured this was the best solution and also to show the world how much he loved his boyfriend.
SHAZAM!
ReplyDeletegood for you Jim.
Best wishes to them! :). If only more people could just marry and be free to love their partners without scrutiny.
ReplyDeleteSurprise surprise surprise!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing! Congrats to them.
DeleteVery sweet :)
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful! Congrats!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I wrote Enty at 5 am, hoping he'd publish this sometime! I was so happy to see this.
ReplyDeleteAww, good for them!
ReplyDelete...But it was probably already in the DM; I should have checked THAT site before I wrote Enty. duh!
ReplyDeleteGood for you, and you are right it's still not easy for gay couples when dealing with hospitals, family and $$$$
ReplyDeleteI'm really happy for him especially because I thought he was dead. I truly thought he was. Good for him on the not being dead thing & for his marriage! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteThat's great! Happy for them!
ReplyDeleteYay!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to both of them!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lucky guy, imagine if you could just ask "Jim, sing something, please?"!
Aww! Much love and happiness to the couple! <3
ReplyDeleteAwww! Mazel Tov!
ReplyDeleteThese are some stunning photos from Seattle's first day of marriage equality.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Now I'm wondering if the old rumors about him and Rock Hudson being lovers at one time is true.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! This warms the heart!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad the times are a changin' :D
@FSP I gotcha, funneeee.
ReplyDeleteI thought he was dead, too. Congrats on getting married AND being alive!!!
ReplyDeleteChristopher, that's funny :-). Hooray for Jim and his husband. For a man of his generation to come out - well, I'd say it's a pretty big deal, even if the world already knew. Pretty cool, Gomer.
ReplyDeleteWell, golly! Good for him and his husband.
ReplyDeleteI loved his singing voice.
ReplyDeleteAgent, me too. It was always a little shocking to hear that voice coming out of Gomer Pyle's mouth.
Delete@FSP Shazam!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet! Can't wait until this isn't news anymore!
ReplyDeleteLike a lot of you older posters I was a fan from when I was little watching The Andy Griffith Show. Jim Nabors = so much talent in one person.
ReplyDeleteI find myself a little teary and so happy for the two of them!
ReplyDeleteHis statement seems so sincere and unassuming. I wonder if he'd consider being my adopted Grandpa. I have a few positions open; I'd love it if he'd apply. He seems like a lovely man. I miss all my old people :-(.
ReplyDeleteaw, Frufra, that is a sweet comment! I miss my old people, too. I guess maybe I am the old people now?
ReplyDeletemy grandparents were such fans of his music...he does have a nice singing voice.
ReplyDeletehappy for him and his partner
Mazel tov, you two, and may you have many more happy years together!
ReplyDeleteAw, I love Jim Neighbors! I heard him sing live back in the olden days - great voice. What a sweet, sweet man. Best of luck to them both. Their relationship has lasted longer than almost every hetero one I've ever personally known barring my grams and gramps.
ReplyDeleteGood God, excuse my grammar. :(
ReplyDeleteYes, all things good for both if you! Jim thanks for hours of pleasure from ur acting and singing:)
ReplyDeleteStories like this make my eyes well up every time.
ReplyDeleteAlso, feel kinda proud to be a Washingtonian. I voted YES.
*sigh* God, I hate Prop 8. It makes me ashamed to be from California. I still cannot believe that piece of homophobic crap passed in my state.
DeleteSniff! Good for him and MAJOR congrats. Yes, I too cannot wait for the day when this is a non-story.
ReplyDeletehe didn't want his partner to have problems after Jim died--this is it, right here, #1 reason why it should federally recognized. Jim should not have had to go to Seattle to do this.
This is beauty.
ReplyDeleteAw, I'm a sucker for true love. Congrats to both of them!
ReplyDeleteYaaay! Congrats to the newlyweds.
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I can't wait for the day when everyone can marry the one they love.
ReplyDeleteI love stories like this! Warms my heart but sad that they have to go to another state to do something that should not be illegal for any human being.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome. Congratulations to the both of them. Did any of you older folks hear the rumor in the mid 1960's that Jim Nabors was secretly married to Rock Hudson? A kid on my block told me that when I was 10 or 11 years old. I couldn't fathom how that was even possible.
ReplyDeleteAnyway recently I read about the genesis of that old rumor. It seems somebody in the Hollywood gay community printed up a bunch of wedding invitations as a joke inviting you to the wedding of Nabors & Hudson. From there it spread all the way to a suburb of Dallas, TX where a 10 year old heard it.
Aww.....sniff!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I loved him singing "Back Home Again in Indiana" at the Indianapolis 500 every year .. and of course watching Gomer Pyle on TV - in reruns .. I am not THAT OLD!! - and loved him to pieces.
ReplyDeleteHe always seemed like a genuinely nice, warm human being to me. Wonderful world we are starting to live in, where loved ones can be who they are with who they love.
Mazel Tov to the happy couple!
My papaw loved him! This is an awesome story! Makes my day a little brighter.
ReplyDeleteWil I AM that old and remember the show the first time around. Plus I wanted Andy to be my dad.
ReplyDeleteI knew he was gay but was unaware he had a longtme companion and now, happy he's tied the knot. Good for Gomer!
Congrats Jim!!! Better late than never.
ReplyDeleteDespite my late arrival, my day just got brighter b/c of this! Wishing them much happiness!!
ReplyDeleteA little bit misty over here. Ahhhh love!
ReplyDeleteWow, they were 44 and 26 when they got together.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Jim and Stan!
Wow. I remember watching an interview with Jim Nabors over 30 years ago. In the interview, he confirmed that he had contracted a disease that was either HIV or Hep C. I honestly can't remember which. He VEHEMENTLY denied any gay rumors, and said as far as he could guess, he contracted this illness from "shaving with a dull razor and then taking a shower while in India".
ReplyDeleteTimes have changed...
38 years!!! CHEERS to being with anyone for that long
ReplyDeleteAwesome! That's heartwarming!
ReplyDeleteThis is as warm and fuzzy as a basket full of puppies and kittens. Good for him!
ReplyDeleteLOL @libby getting up so early to send enty gossip, too funny
ReplyDeleteGood for them! Jim looks fantastic for 82. Hope they have a long and happy marriage.
ReplyDeleteYAY for Jim and his new hubby! They look happy and are great role models for stable gay marriages! Take that, you multi-divorcing movie stars!
ReplyDeleteAww, so sweet!
ReplyDeleteThat old Jim Nabors - Rock Hudson rumor was a joke that started when Hudson came out with AIDS, but the last bit always got left off:
ReplyDelete"Hey, did you hear that Rock Hudson and Jim Nabors got married? Yeah, he changed his name to Rock Pyle!"
I don't know if there was truth behind it, but that's the origin.
