Charlie Sheen Writes A Check To Pay For Pap Funeral
One thing you can say about Charlie Sheen is that he is willing to break out his checkbook for important causes. Gone are the days when people in Hollywood have to have endless car washes and ice cream fundraisers. The most important thing you can do is know Charlie Sheen. Or have a friend of a friend who knows Charlie Sheen. If he can be reached, chances are Charlie will write a check. Such is the case with the pap who was killed trying to get the Justin Bieber pot smoking photo. You would think all the other paps around would chip in and help cover the $12K cost of the funeral. Nope. So, a photographer who knows Charlie asked him to help and Charlie wrote a check to the wife of the killed pap for the entire cost of the funeral. All of this making amends is not a bad way for Charlie to be remembered.
I can't believe the funeral is so cheap. Good for Charlie.
ReplyDeleteGood for him.
ReplyDeleteAs much as I want to hate on Charlie for being a disgusting mess, I just can't. This was a really cool thing to do.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same. He's a screw up in so many ways, yet he can be likeable.
DeleteI was thinking the same. He's a screw up in so many ways, yet he can be likeable.
DeleteCheap? I thought that was the average of a funeral these days Vicki?
ReplyDeleteGood for him. He may have a lot of issues, but I think he's a good guy deep down. I hope he gets real help someday.
ReplyDeleteCharlie does have his moments.
ReplyDeleteUr winning today charlie.
ReplyDeleteVery nice.
ReplyDeleteCharlie is a real paradox. He's always writing checks to anyone who asks. He is incredibly generous like that.
ReplyDeleteI think that is fundamentally who he is, but his addictions run his life. I remember one his hookers called him the lonliest man she ever met. In other words, no matter how much drugs or sex he has, its never filling up that hole in his soul.
DeleteI wonder if Charlie would pay off the rest of my mortgage? Seriously though, this was an awesome thing to do and I have a little more respect for him now!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Like your comment! ;-)
DeleteDear Charlie, if you are reading this - I could use some cash. *L*
ReplyDeleteI think this was a very nice thing to do. I bet he feels better about this one than the money he gave to Lindsay Lohan...*L*
What does *L* mean??
Delete10-4, I believe Maja just means "laugh", as in LOL.
DeleteIt's a face. Kind of likes surprised. The L is the nose and the asterisks are the eyes
DeleteIt's funny because I've never thought that Charlie Sheen was a bad person, even when he's acting completely crazy. I don't like a lot of his decisions and I wouldn't want him living next door, but he's hard for me to dislike.
ReplyDeleteLotta, is it? I thought funerals were a lot more. I think they're a total scam anyway.
ReplyDelete10-4: That's Maja's "laugh".
ReplyDeleteWow, incredibly generous. Good for him.
Definitely winning, Charlie! :)
ReplyDeleteI cannot slam Charlie. He helped out a friend of mine, non celb, when she needed it, no strings attached and refused repayment. He did not ask for sex, drugs, anything...he said the money was a gift and to put any repayments in her daughters college fund.
ReplyDeleteWow.
DeleteExtremely kind of him, especially considering what a thorn in the side paparazzi are for most celebs.
ReplyDeleteVC, while I share your ideas about funerals, I believe, yeah, 12 grand is pretty much the going rate.
ReplyDeleteI demand a pine box - hell, cardboard's ok, too - when my time comes. I've already told Mr. Frufra I'll haunt him if he spends that kind of dough to dispose of my body. I won't even be in there anymore!!
Winning!
ReplyDelete+1
DeleteShell out some money and all your sins are forgiven... interesting. Kinda like going to church.
ReplyDeleteI can't stand Charlie Sheen but I give him credit for doing this.
ReplyDelete@crazy/beautiful, I know what you're getting at, but I don't think that's what most of us are saying. Charlie Sheen's slate isn't wiped clean (in my eyes) by any means. Just because he's generous with his money doesn't mean that I'd let him baby-sit my kids and expose them to God knows what.
ReplyDeleteWe can like this one thing about him without liking anything else he does.
Well said *Karen* very well said.
ReplyDeleteWasn't there a reveal/blind a few years back about an actor who was a really nice guy but became the mess he is because of all the people in in Hollywood who mistreated him??? I thought Sheen was the common guess for that one..
ReplyDeleteDid you know that if you check in at Charlie's house on Foursquare, it says you're at a strip club? My fiancé checked in as a joke when we were driving in the Hollywood Hills, and it gave him his "first strip club" badge.
ReplyDelete(I was secretly thrilled that it was his first one. LOL)
Charlie is such of mix of good and bad....sadly $12,000
ReplyDeleteis pretty average for a funeral. And I think it's a lot of money. That was very nice of you Charlie.
@*karen*, I agree. The man certainly has his issues, but isn't a complete a-hole. Well done, Charlie!
ReplyDeleteKaren, I was making commentary about the post itself and the author's feelings toward the situation, not necessarily the comments posted here. It does appear that some of you agree, though. I agree with you that being charitable is nothing to scoff at. It is, indeed, a good quality. I just also think it's fair to point out the fact that if he didn't have any money to give, then he might still be just another crackhead pariah. And that's without even delving into the fact that paps are really pretty disgusting when you think about it. I mean, a guy died because he wanted to get a shot of Justin Bieber driving a lamborghini...
ReplyDeleteGood deed. Still think he is a woman abusing crackhead.
ReplyDeleteAwww, that is SO nice of him! He's not even involved, but someone comes to him asking for financial help and he willingly and quickly writes a check. Anyone recall when he wrote a check to help a police officers kid who was sick? Sure he's a crack head, but underneath that he's a very generous big hearted person. Crack makes people crazy, just because he and Brooke were having an epic cracky fight a few christmases ago does not make Charlie a vicious serial woman beater. On the contrary he's been supporting Denise Richards and Brooke for a long time financially.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I wonder if Charlie takes in porn stars, druggies, etc. because he feels like a savior of lost souls.
ReplyDeleteGood on him for helping the pap's family cover the expenses. He's got a good heart. Just poor decision making skills.
Addendum: Maybe he feels like it's his responsibility to help other lost souls when he's having his moments of relative clarity. I'm sure he feels pretty lost, too.
ReplyDeleteI know Charlie has done lots of bad things but, this was an incredibly nice gesture on his part. Plus, his whole tirade a couple years back with the whole "Two and A Half Men" was incredibly entertaining to read about/watch. I kind of like him. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe all know he's no saint, but good on him for stepping up to help out the family of someone who's regarded as no better than a cockroach w/a camera by most of Charlie's peers. (Yes, I'm not crazy about paps in general, and yes, dying because you wanted a shot of Justin Beiber in his fancy car is a pretty damn dumb way to go out--can you imagine explaining that one to St. Peter?--but in the end someone is dead, and his family needed help to bury him.) Here's hoping that Charlie's better angels finally manage to win out over his demons...
ReplyDelete(Also, I'd say it doesn't speak well of the deceased's fellow paps that they couldn't be arsed to chip in towards their buddy's funeral--professional courtesy apparently doesn't count for much here--and the fact that someone they target on a regular basis did step up and help just compounds the irony.)
Robin I love your posts. I totally agree, so glad you can articulate my feelings better than me lol.
DeleteGood for him, once in a while he shows humanity.
ReplyDeletei think this was a great move by charlie.
ReplyDeletebravo.
I don't agree with some of the stuff I've heard that he does but it seems like he views money as a means to do what he wants to do--not just something to have for the sake of being rich--so if it strikes him that he wants to do something to help someone--then he has the resources. I kind of like that attitude--As I get older, I don't care that much for "things"--but rather I want some security and to be able to do what I want to do.
ReplyDeleteNice thing to do given how much he's been followed himself during his harder times by the paps. I'm sure the wife is very grateful. An unexpected death can really be a huge financial hit--younger people often don't have the insurance or money to cover it.
Smh @ some folks on here.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to point out that it was very kind of Charlie and also ask why Justin Beiber didn't offer to pay for the funeral...I mean, yes paps are crazy but he did die trying to get a photo of him, shouldn't he feel a bit guilty?
ReplyDeleteOne thing about Charlie, he has a heart of gold. It's got coke sprinkles, but its still gold. Yes, 12K is about the rate for a standard service and burial, but not a Phaedra Parks funeral. That would barely cover the doves per diem.
ReplyDeleteCharlie reminds me the typical drunk in a bar who uses to invite all the people inside a drink, regardless the money it costs.
ReplyDeleteGood for him because he is a nice guy in reality, but I don't think he has meditated all his expenses very much.
This was very generous of him.
ReplyDeleteThat said, he clearly has more money than he knows what to do with. From what I understand, he's always been like this. A weird amalgam of big romantic, addict, unstable, and incredibly generous. The same guy who'll hold a knife to his wife's throat will turn around and do this. Who knows what's going on inside his head.
All that to say, if he doesn't already have a few pet charities, I hope he finds a few. Imagine the impact if he channeled his funds through a reputable and effective nonprofit. Pay for people to get rehab (I know, I know), kids to eat, first generation college students to get a degree... although, he would probably need to do so anonymously. Not the best PR to be funded by a wife-abusing crack addict. Even if his dad was President Bartlett.
He reminds me of my father, in that you love being around him-when he's sober. He is funny, fun to be around, a great man--when he's sober. But when he's drunk, different story. And that's the problem.
ReplyDeleteGood ole Char Char!
ReplyDeleteI miss him on tv...kutcher sux.
Wow - lots of nice things about Charlie today.
ReplyDeleteMaybe some day you'll make up you're own minds, instead of having some lazy blogger tell you what to think every morning.
Best of luck!
Marine - I don't think it should be on Bieber to pay for this man's funeral. Remember, the pap was trying to catch Bieber smoking pot... Bieber didn't call the guy or ask for the pap to be there.
ReplyDeleteI mean, Bieber could if he felt like it or whatever, and it would be a cool thing to do, but it shouldn't be automatically assumed that he should.
Other than the whales freeing themselves from the ice, this is the best news I read today.
ReplyDeleteHave to agree with Zeeky, @marine - and further, much as I loathe the Bieber, he has zero cause to feel guilty and i think it's pretty mean to say he should. I think if he had contributed to the guy's funeral or family, that it would have opened a can of gossip worms that is seriously better left closed.
ReplyDeleteThis was a nice gesture for Charlie Sheen to have made, especially given he's a violent, drug-addled maniac. A nice gesture from a seriously nasty guy (however amusing he occasionally is).
I'd always heard $10k was the average for a funeral.
ReplyDeleteUgh, I loathe Charlie Sheen, so not even this will make me like him more. ThankYouVeryMuch, steppy. ;)
He wasn't married. I call some BS somewhere...
