Blind Items Revealed

November 22, 2012

This A list all movie actor with the occasional foray into television was taking some classes at a college. While he was there during a summer, the actor would choose one camper to work with each week, and by work, I mean what you think I mean. One of the campers complained about being stalked and harassed by the actor and the faculty at the college initiated grievance proceedings against him.

James Franco

  1. Please tell me that the "campers" were college students visiting from other universities.

  2. Wow. He is a spooky fellow.

  3. I know the person who submitted it. Yes they were adults and yes it was a woman.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yeah, what the hell is a camper? am i too old to know that reference?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Camper did sound suspect. Franco is a weird dude, nothing he did would surprise me.

  6. He gives me the creeps..

  7. thanks, timebob! the stalking/harassing isn't cool, but compared to the pedo blinds on this site, this one is pretty tame.

    ReplyDelete
  8. @timebob, without giving too much away, can you give us any more details? I mean more details than "stalked and harrassed."

    ReplyDelete
  9. I just don't like him and his pretentious self. Now (thanks Timebob) that I know he's a stalker as well, I hope he goes away soon.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Things at USC are not going to go well with him teaching. Just wait.

    ReplyDelete
  11. He does seem a little off his rocker...

I am updating the ratings chart with all these reveals so email me if you want one!

  12. I thought enty was slyly trying to imply they were males.

I read the original thread @timebob did the professor really get fired for that?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Back with Freaks and Geeks I loved his dirty hotness. Now all he is, is a dirty skeezer. Boy needs to get over himself!

    ReplyDelete
  14. It was a writing camp at the university, I believe. Hence, "campers."

    ReplyDelete
  15. To be stalked is a horrible thing; I think I've finally shaken mine, but I'm always on the look out, never feeling totally free of it. Stalkers suck.

    ReplyDelete
  16. timebob - we need too know just how douchey he really is!

Poor Franco. I think he's wired a bit differently than most, so I want to give him the benefit of the doubt. However...stalking is never OK. Sounds like he was using that famous actor "power" to get laid every week and one (smart) young lady said hellz no! Probably not the first time either.

  17. I only know what you guys know. I don't know any other details other than knowing it was James Franco when Enty posted it originally.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Cannot stand this guy. He's so pretentious and tries to pretend he's humble when he rattles off his great big list of Great Things I Have Done. He's the Harriet Klausner of the film world.

    ReplyDelete
  19. He seems to be getting more strange or maybe it's just now that his strange is evident.

@RessesPeace I had a stalker at University and it was not fun. I still look over my shoulder when in an unfamiliar place to some degree. Stalkers do suck and so does Franco for harassing women.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Franco is more than a tad pretentious.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Wow Reeses and Fluffy that sounds scary! I'm glad it all worked out ok. I would be so paranoid after that, I already get paranoid enough at night. But I am the weirdo who thinks it is vampire lurking in the shadows.

  22. I'm confused, timebob - i just went back and re-read the original post and you said you wondered if it was the professor who was fired that submitted this and now you're saying that you know the person who submitted it. do you know the professor? honestly not trying to come across as snarky or anything - i'm just a little slow today.

  23. This:

"I am teaching six classes in all different kinds of disciplines, on both coasts."

"My first chapbook came out, Strongest of the Litter, but people seem to be more interested in who I'm dating than poetry. Oh yeah, I got nominated for a National Entertainment Journalism award for these HuffPost blogs, but not other other outlet is going to run that story, right? Hahaha - why would Gawker or the New York Post want to publicize that an actor/Yale doctoral candidate is nominated for award for something that they are doing themselves? I'm pretty proud of it, but I can see why they must hate me."

    So precious.

  24. This planned seduction routine disgusts me.

We all have people hit on us from time to time but I seem to get professors for some reason. I am not flirtatious in the least, very shy, and maybe this makes me vulnerable and thus an easy target. I'm not the one at the front asking questions, nor the one that stays after class. BTW I am not revealing this to make myself sound like some femme fatale. It is to remind parents of tweeners and up that it does happen. The first was when I was 14. Then away at a summer music camp at 15. Two or three when I was an adult.

What James Franco did is awful. I can't imagine what pressure the girls felt from a famous actor, one-on-one. Probably with promises of help when they get to Hollywood.

They might as well have served these girls up on silver platters. And, no, I don't care if they were over the age of consent. They and their parents weren't paying probably thousands of dollars for this.

  25. Franco is not inherently stupid, but he is becoming a public joke by asserting the pretentious mantle of being a serious academic without putting in real work to research, publish and generally be a serious academic.

    ReplyDelete
  26. B. Profane!! You had a minor role in my dream a few nights ago. I have been wondering where you have been. Have a great new year!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. @JSierra, it was unpleasant for sure...

I still look for shadows outside my back door...oh well, that's life..

Hey sometimes I wish a hot vampire would jump out of a bush...No I kid, but I feel ya. I'm a wee bit eccentric myself...

  28. @Cathy I commented before I knew who submitted it and then I was made aware of the person who sent it in to Enty (not the woman harrased or professor) and that Franco was the person. Then I didn't comment anymore and should of deleted that original comment but just forgot about it. Sorry didn't mean to confuse anyone.

I just wanted to clarify that the "campers" were adults and was a woman who made the complaint. Franco isn't a PedoBear or gay that I know of.

And the professor I was referring to was the one that was fired for giving Franco a failing grade (it was meant as a joke) but dumb.

  29. go look at his instagram hes got tons of pictures with teenaged girls.

    ReplyDelete
  30. He's just so skeevy to me. ick. gross. But I'm not surprised, and it seems as though he's not getting enough "accolades" due to his terrible entitlement issues and pretentiousness. He embodies megalomania and I've disliked him since he got someone fired at Harvard because they called him out.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wow, chapbook? What a pretentious ass.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Such a pretentious twit. Not a fan.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Don't you love how he throws that actor/Yale doctoral candidate like it has something to do with writing for HuffPost? You are snowflake, James, a special, special snowflake.

I hate stalker stories - that must be so damn scary. :/ Sorry you had to deal with that.

Thanks Mayor Timebob, and DBZEE for the quote: ridiculous Franco, thinking he's all deep and scholarly. Get over yourself Doucho. And @ Tuxedo Cat and all the other ladies that seem to attract the attention of would be stalkers, hustlers, skeezes. When you're being a shy, shrinking violet type (which is my natural inclination too) it tends to engage and interest these types, it's like putting a target on your back. If you stand up tall, respond forcefully, speak up, make eye contact (not flirtatiously, just angrily)don't shrink and cower, then these types aren't attracted to that, they WILL move away. They wWANT you to be all shy and afraid, they get off on feeling powerful and dominant, don't give them the chance and let them know you're on to them and aren't playing their little domination game. Push BACK! They are weaklings inside and that's why they overcompensate, they can't handle a person who owns their power, it's a total turn off to them. They look for and seek out shy girls that they can manipulate and scare, so they can feel big and bad. Don't be scared of them, don't let them win, you are in control of your life, refuse to be scared. Get mad, then call the cops if they're really stalking you.

Thanks for your reply, Anna. I'm finished my education now, Anna, but I could have used that advice when I was a tweener. I hope your advice will help some students be better prepared.

  36. I had a creepy music professor at college that was the school's teacher of the instrument I studied. He once tried wrapping his arms around me from behind to "adjust my position" - I stiffened and threw him off and gave him The Look - as in "back off Jack." He never tried it again, and I found another teacher. But unfortunately I had a roommate who decided to take lessons on this instrument from El Creepo who let herself be seduced by him. She was a very shy, non-femme fatale type who I am almost certain was a virgin at the time - from a rural town and very, very naive and not used to male attention, sort of plain. I still kick myself to this day for not turning him in once I found this out. I am sure he scarred her for life. Oh, and he was married, too.

Glad Franco was outed as a pervy creep.

  37. Franco looks as if he's allergic to soap. Always disheveled and kind of scruffy looking.

One of my friends was pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice and one of her teachers decided he had a crush on her and made her life hell. Phone calls, emails and the school did little to help. What was especially frightening to her was that he was a retired police office and owned guns. It took well over a year to get the guy to leave her alone (after his denials, of course) and she almost had a nervous breakdown.

What Franco did was a total abuse of power.

i hope his brother isn't a creep too. we're married in my mind :/

  39. Well a guy who can get his PhD by osmosis is pretty special.

    Criminal Justice, of all things!

  41. James Franco is plenty odd, pretentious, and I totally think he abuses his position, but I have to defend his education. Now if he really is a doctoral candidate at Yale and that's a big IF, no school or student gets there by osmosis. Every commencement colleges distribute honorary doctorates like candy, but the real ones do require a lot of work. As a doctoral candidate myself, it took me over 4 years, 2 qualifying exams, and a preliminary defense to get to that point and as I prepare to defend my dissertation 2 years later, you better believe I'm telling everyone about it. Shoot, everyone I know is tired of hearing about it, but it has been my life for 6 years. I think James Franco is a tool, but if he's truly ABD he should not be criticized for his education. So few of the folks we read about here never bothered to graduate from college (Paris, KK, Lohan). They're tools too, but at least he's doing something more productive with his time.

    1. There are people who, through money and prestige have gotten PhD's from Harvard....I know 2 of them.....both immensely pleased with themselves.....

That said, I know how much hard work most doctoral candidates have to put in....and you should be proud of yourself.

  42. Stalkers do not necessarily go away when you stand strong. My ex mother in law started stealing my garbage (which isn't against the law, btw) about a month ago, to try to know what's going on in my life (which is nothing but work and taking care of my 4 year old son). She put me in the hospital when I left my exhusband because he refused mental health tx for schizophrenia. She is trying to get custody of my son (which she never will) and has run the gamete from accusing me of drug use to saying I'm a lesbian. She has threatened to kill me on numerous occassions and I have footage of her vehicle parked in the alley behind my house, but police can't (won't) do anything because she's on public ground, and verbal threats aren't grounds for filing a complaint.

Franco needs to have the responsibility of a home, paying for schooling and trying to support a family on decreasing wage and increasing insurance, with a heaping of student loan debt on top. I like celebrity gossip to let my brain rest after a day of work, but I do not understand the reason movie stars/celebrities are paid so much. A friend of mine from work has her son in hospice care from brain cancer. He is 5. A million dollars to help buy kids Christmas presents who are in Children's Hospital would be so much better than this douche getting it.

  43. @Maria
I just finished my PhD in English. I have an MFA, and a similar educational background as Franco. I worked my ass off for it.

Franco has been criticized many times for getting special treatment. Many fellow students at his MFA program at NYU about this. He's actually named in a lawsuit.

Franco is actually pursuing an English PhD at Yale and a Creative Writing PhD at the University of Houston. If he were not a celebrity with deep pockets, I bet he wouldn't be getting either.

How is he doing all this AND working on films? I don't see him at any MLA conferences. I haven't seen any published academic articles from him. Where is he presenting his work? I know he did a book of poetry, but I haven't seen any academic articles from him.

He could be very smart, but as someone who worked seven years for my PhD, I call foul on him. I think he diminishes academics, especially in the humanities where we are being cut-off left and right.

Franco makes my profession/calling look bad.

  45. Gah, these professor stories are creepy!

@Maria & Henriette - if you were my real-life friends and going on about your doctorate, I would be buying you drinks left and right. One of my friends defended her thesis last spring and it was grueling - this is hard work!

His blase attitude about academia, as if it's something you do on the side between acting and teaching and chapbooking, that's the rub. Real-life students are busting their brains while this pretentious d is acting like he's the Wizard of Oz.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I know someone that had a run-in with him. Interestingly enough, this person had connections with another celebrity for a well-publicized reason (dated the boyfriend). It was a scandal, not for the cheating part mind you. That was the tamest part...anyway, my friend was stalked even though JF KNEW the "truth" about her. In fact, it's almost like he wanted my friend even more...Yes, it is probably what you think, ladies.
    He's a weirdo...trust me...stalker weirdo.

  47. AnnaNammas (sp?) -

Stalkers come in many different varieties, and being shy and small isn't what they all zero in on. In my peer group, one of our friends turned stalker. She harassed/stalked at least 18 people that I know of, with varying degrees of severity. It was hell.

    ReplyDelete
  48. @DBZee
Exactly! Franco makes it seem like academia is a hobby akin to scrap booking. It's his flavor of the month, which is really crappy to people who work so hard.

    ReplyDelete
  49. 21, not 18. I thought of three more people that became unwilling customers of our local "Stalkers B Us." Two of these people were teenagers; the stalker was over 30.
