You want something really bad and you see a line for it. What is your cut off time for lines? How long are you willing to wait in line for something and what would it be?
Disney rides, those are the longest lines I have ever tolerated -- and then only because there's a little niece or nephew dying to go on it. (All of the adults in my extended family have got that ticketing system down pretty well, though, timing-wise, when we all go at it together with a plan of action.)
I would wait longer in a drive through than I would if I were standing. I always pay extra to get the VIP passes that let you go to the front of the line. They are a must-have!!
Supermarket lines are the only lines that I will wait in! If the line is long for something that I want I don't wait and chalk it up to "wasn't meant to be" Sucks to be me sometimes:)
I hate lines with the power of a thousand suns. My husband fills my gas tank because sitting in the car at the gas station drives me bats. (Here in Oregon, you can't pump your gas, so you have to wait in ridiculous lines while all of the jockeys run around trying to fill the tanks.)
I will wait in checkout lines or a line to renews driver's license for as long as it takes. If it's stuff, I don't need anything badly enough to wait for it.
This last Cinco de Mayo, I waited 40 minutes for the bartender to take my order. I got a goldfish bowl filled with delicious Margarita & a shot of Patron. Add that to the Xanax that was required earlier in the day & that 40 minute wait was worth every second!
I'm like the rest of you online shoppers, no waiting in line there! I only go to stores if I want to try something on first before buying. Most of my christmas shopping was online, I can't stand not finding parking around the holidays.

I waited in a Starbucks line in my SuperTarget the other day for 20 mins for one iced coffee and one white chocolate mocha. There were two people in front of us and three people behind us, not packed at all. I was so pissed.
Considering I've been to Disneyland twice, I have an AMAZING capacity for standing in lines. I would wait 30 minutes for something, past that and I'm wasting my life.
I think I waited for an hour and a half at Seaworld in San Diego to go on the mini sub ride on the opening day. It was worth it and I didn't have anything better to do that day.
If I really want/need it ... I ll fatalistically wait. As for sales season, either you can afford the whole nine yards of paying full price during regular times, either you suck it up. At a theme park, I can t stand it more than 5 mins. I hate theme parks and their fakey fakey pasteurized environment with a vengeance.
I'm with the Amazon/on-line crowd. It's usually cheaper than the stores, I save the driving time (more important to me than the lines) and I so far don't have to pay sales tax on Amazon. Plus, I have Amazon Prime, so yay for free two-day shipping.
Tip to Florida voters/DMV users: At least in Miami-Dade, anyone can file an absentee vote - just remember to ask for the absentee ballot about a month before the election. And the DMV now allows you to schedule an appointment online - I did that and was in and out in 30 minutes.

I stood in line/camped out for lots of concerts way back. The longest one was to see Garth Brooks back in 97 or 98. Totally worth it (then). Now I'll wait in line at a theme park for a ride for 30 to 45 minutes. Otherwise maybe 15 minutes for regular check out lines.
I waited in line 2 1/2 hrs for a copy of Halo 4 at midnight in the cold a couple of months ago, that was for my kids though. My back was screwed up for about a week after that.
On Xmas eve I was in line for 25 minutes. This A-hole ahead of me purchased $500 worth of merchandise, then when he had everything checked out he decided that he didn't want a bunch of stuff he'd just purchased. He handed the checkout girls (yes there were TWO cashiers just tending to him) each item he had purchased - one by one and asked to have the price of that item checked. He would then decide if he wanted the item or if he didn't want it. If he wanted the item (after he'd already bought it) he'd have to have it placed back in a shopping bag and in his cart. 25 minutes of this. On Xmas eve - a 1/2 hour before store closing. I'm ordinarily a patient person but this was guy was being a royal asshole.
Longest time I have ever waited in line for anything was 3 1/2 hours for Bob Dylan concert tickets. Outside. In February. LoL. TOTALLY WORTH IT!!

I forgot about DMV. I had to renew my license and the nice, quiet little DMV branch by my home had closed, so I had to go the big one in town. I was there for almost two hours - and it only took 15 minutes to renew the damn thing.
Oregon is vote by mail, thank goodness. I always used to vote absentee ballot so I didn't have to go the polling place.
My bitch switch flips hard when I wait in lines, so I don't do it. When I went to Disneyland, my friend's child had a legit handicap that let us skip most of the lines, otherwise I would have just waited at the hotel. It's that bad for me.

DMV wait is a thing of the past here. You can get in line on your phone and they'll text you 15 minutes ahead of time. I was in and out in 10 minutes.
Funny this should come up today. Took my kids to the MD and one needed a Rx. the line looked long. I counted to 10 and I was done. So 10 people. (I called it in). Time wise not sure. At a restaurant; ZERO. Once it is the reservation time if I’m not sitting, and they are evasive; I’m gone.
Me too @new life, if you still had to wait in line for concert tickets I totally would do that again. I camped out waiting for tickets to the Purple Rain tour when Prince came to SF, and a couple of hours for other shows. Totally worth it.
I grew up with a ticket scalper for a dad back in the good old days before the Internet when you had to stand in line and wait for tickets to shows.. The longest we stood in line was for three days in Seattle for a Beatles reunion tour. We were first in line and the news needed someone to interview for their story on the show and the line so my dad made me do it. The news reporter asked me why I stood in line for three days and all I could think to say was " because ... I love Paul McCartney " which came out more as a question than a statement. I was in 7th grade at the time. For the rest of the year my locker was constantly tagged with pictures of Paul and I was called McCartney lover for the next two years until I moved to Portland...
Now I'm a jerk about waiting anywhere. Not sure if there is any correlation but yah.. Me and lines are not friends.. I avoid them at all costs !
waited in line for three days and four nights for Springsteen tickets in the early 80's my friends took my spot for bathroom breaks, I was the only one who had all their assignments completed. Now it depends if I have a friend with me or a book in my bag. I'm old I'm just happy to be able to stand in line.
I can't think of anything I will stand in line more than 10 minutes for.
I have a bad leg, and when shopping the walking around kills me so standing at the end is just too much. I time my grocery shopping to try to miss busy times so I don't have to stand long.
Amazon saved me when I was stuck off my feet at home for 3 months at a time with 3 surgeries on this leg--you can get almost anything from them and they bring it right to you.
I literally will abandon my cart full of stuff if the line is too long. I have never completed a shopping trip to Kohls because every time I've gone there they have one cashier and a line half way through the store and they won't open another register. I have just parked the cart full and walked out 3 different times.
Camped out 2-3 days for Cotton Bowl tickets when I was in college. We don't wait long at theme parks anymore - the new technology that allows you to pick your time to ride is amazing. Stores - not more than 10 minutes.
10 minutes. I had posted a long diatribe about the recent suck ass service at the CLT Stockcar Bar on xmas day but lost it all. BTW if you pass through and Shannon is working save yourself tge trouble and go elsewhere. Yeah. I am one of them. I complain then and there and write letters.
@tuxedocat, waiting in line for your kids is a bit different, I think. I've waited for hours when new gaming systems have come out (longest was 6 hours) and I will wait for up to 2 for my selected Black Friday store but normally, it's about a half an hour.
Depends on my patience level that day and how bad I want it. Or if my husband is with me. He doesn't deal with lines too well. I don't mind long lines if they move at a quick pace and don't deal with ignoramuses like in JBE's story.
I'm very impatient when it comes to lines...of people. 5 at the most or I'm out.

The longest I've ever waited in line was for "Batman: The Ride" at Six Flags on a Saturday.
