Will & Kate Are Having A Baby
Apparently the friend of Kate Middleton's who leaked news of the pregnancy to the world was actually right. Doesn't mean she will ever be invited to anything again by the royal family but she was right about Kate expecting a baby. The news was confirmed after Kate was admitted to the hospital for acute morning sickness and will be there for several days. That is some serious morning sickness. Tonight will be very busy as the tabloids all scramble to change their covers.
Congrats to the happy couple!
ReplyDeleteShe was probably losing weight and her frail body can't afford to lose any more.
ReplyDeleteGood for them!
I hope so. They need to have a baby and move on from the endless speculation.
ReplyDeleteThis surely will knock the Mario Lopez/Bachelorette wedding off the cover!! Wahoo
ReplyDeleteEat something Kate...
ReplyDeleteNothing like a little morning sickness to start your day...Hope it slows down for her soon...
ReplyDeleteSweet! Let the maturnity fashion begin.
ReplyDeleteI hope she and the baby will stay healthy.
ReplyDeleteVicki, reading your comment made me feel bad..my first thought reading this was that I'm going to a gala they are appearing at on Saturday and now I won't get to see them! Terribly selfish thoughts
DeleteSevere morning sickness makes me think it's a girl. I had two boys and never had morning sickness. Yeah, that means nothing but everyone I've known that had girls had morning sickness so that's one of about a thousand theories you'll be hearing over the next seven months.
ReplyDeleteI had severe, all day sickness through to 28 weeks, where it eased off to just morning sickness n my afternoons were filled with reflux... And I had a boy.
DeleteMorning sickness from 12 weeks right up to the morning I delivered. Bouncing baby boy.
DeleteCongrats to the family! This doesn't affect me in any way whatsoever, but I can't help but feel happy for them.
ReplyDeleteWish they'd had more time to themselves before they started to breed, but that's just me ;)
@EmEyeKay - I was thinking that too (about them having more time to themselves) but I'm guessing there was A LOT of pressure on them to have a baby.
DeleteI wonder how many babies she'll be pregnant with? I'm sure in a week or so there will be covers that say, "IT'S TWINS!" or "IT'S QUADRUPLETS AND A PUPPY!"
ReplyDeletelmao @ Amber
ReplyDeleteHyperemesis gravidarum isn't something to take casually, so while I'm very sorry to hear she's in the hospital, I'm glad she's being taken care of. It's a truly nasty business that goes way beyond ordinary morning sickness; it can cause severe complications, and women and their fetuses have been known to die from it (Charlotte Bronte was apparently a victim). No one is quite sure what causes it, although hormonal changes are a popular guess, and there's isn't a cure per se, but there are measures than can be taken to alleviate the worst of the effects. (Apparently there's some suggestion that pot can help here, as it does w/nausea due to chemo, so smoke 'em if you got 'em, Kate!) My mom had this when she was pregnant w/my brother; she was much sicker carrying him than she ever was w/us girls, and is convinced that it was precisely because the fetus was a boy that she was so sick. (Yes, she finally got better--she swears that Vitamin B injections from an old-school family doctor whose wife had also been terribly sick were what turned her around--and my brother came through just fine.)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, congratulations to Will and Kate, and sweetie, I hope you're feeling much better soon!
This is what I have and it's miserable. Poor Kate, I feel for her. Luckily, she has lots of help so she won't need to cook dinner for her husband while puking in the sink...
DeleteThis is what I have and it's miserable. Poor Kate, I feel for her. Luckily, she has lots of help so she won't need to cook dinner for her husband while puking in the sink...
DeleteI had morning sickness with all my pregnancies but the one I had hyperemesis with was with my twin girls apparently its quite common with twins. I was hospitalised 5 times with it as I couldn't even sip water or suck on ice cube without vomiting. It finally eased off around 5 months though I still had the odd bout. My babies were born healthy since they drained me lol x
DeleteMy beat friend just had her baby boy last mint after having HG. this was her second pregnancy and she also had it with her daughter (but it was more severe with the boy) she got hospitalized and @robin she was told by her GP that weed could help but she just couldn't do it. I would never wish it on anyone and take my hat off to women that have survived it
DeleteIn a weird way I hope with kate's pregnancy HG is discussed more openly (certainly is on morning shows here) because when people would tell my friend "oh it's just morning sickness" *I* wanted to knock them over!
Rant over. And congrats to will and Kate! (yeah I'm monarchist! Lol)
There is nothing "acute" about Hypermesis Gravidarum! Anyway, can't wait to see pics of the little one!
ReplyDeleteback in the dark ages (the 60's and 70's) many doctors treated hyperemesis by putting mom in a dark room with IV fluids, with no visitors, and no way to wash out their mouths if they puked, no phone so they couldn't call anyone for 'sympathy' and that was that. they felt it was an emotional problem and paying it any attention only made it worse.
ReplyDeletethank heaven THOSE days are gone.
The most exciting thing I think about this:
ReplyDeleteI can not WAIT to see Suri's Burn Book updated. LOL
Cecilia00, Suri's Burn Book has updated. LOL
DeleteI knew it! I saw a photo spread the other day where she was working a large handbag across her belly like one of those sitcom Moms who are pregnant in real life but not on the show (Claire Huxtable anyone?)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Prince Charles will ever take the thrown or just pass it to William at this point.
ReplyDeleteWow! Congratulations to them! I hope Kate feels better soon.
ReplyDeleteThis news made me smile!
ReplyDeleteHopefully the horrid morning sickness will quickly for her.
I have a girlfriend who had this, and she had a home health nurse come daily to give her IVs to rehydrate her. And she had a boy.
I felt fantab with my boys, looked great and glowed, with my daughter, everyone asked me if I "was feeling okay".
timebob I think the UK would only "tolerate" Charles as king, no enthusiasm. And they would never really embrace Camilla. I don't like Camilla at all and if they skipped Charles it would be poetic. Plus tabloids have been saying Charles treats the help terribly - there have been lawsuits and settlements.
ReplyDeleteThe worlds biggest welfare recepients.
ReplyDeleteI am irrationally happy for them about this!
ReplyDeleteMorning sickness so bad she had to be hospitalized? WOW. Wasn't Diana really sick, too?
ReplyDeleteI'll bet no one is near as thrilled as Kate's mother.
Best wishes to the happy couple.
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope this spurs the British Parliament to change the laws of succession so that the first born child inherits, instead of the first born boy. I've heard there's been some discussion - so what's the holdup?
It's already been changed. Done deal.
DeleteI read on one of the royal blogs that Camilla has been very nasty to Kate, and has even gone over to their place when William is away to tell her off.
ReplyDeleteAlso, that Prince Andrew's daughters, Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, complained to the Queen that Kate wasn't curtsying to them...
All fugly jealous bitches.
DeleteI really like these two, much health & happiness to them both.
ReplyDeleteSusanB: I think that's already been taken care of, so boy or girl, s/he will be next in the line of succession after her/his dad.
ReplyDeleteNance: I hadn't heard it was THAT bad, but yes, my mom mentioned how the other family doctor was convinced that it was "all in her head" and that she was "subconsciously rejecting the baby," which pissed her off to no end--she nearly lost it several times (somehow managing to halt a seeming miscarriage/bleeding through sheer stubborn pigheadedness & determination), so this was very much a WANTED pregnancy...she just wanted to stop puking, was all. Fortunately, the other doctor, whose own wife had been so sick, understood perfectly and was far more sympathetic and helpful. (Also, didn't Maria Shriver have this problem during one of her pregnancies? I could swear I remember hearing about it...)
I wonder how far along she is? ANyone know that?
ReplyDeleteThe bbc news says she's not even 12 weeks yet.
DeleteAs a survivor of Hyperemesis Gravidarum my heart goes out to her. I'd never even *heard* of it until I had it. Despite 2 powerful antiemetics, I vomited at least 15 times a day all the way thru my pregnancy from week 5. Because they won't allow you water in the hospital, I was vomiting stomach acid thru the delivery.
ReplyDeleteIt's no joke. It kills people. It's also likely to get you thrown up on if you suggest saltines, ginger, or any other "normal" morning sickness solutions. Ask my ex-coworker who told me that if I just 'thought about it hard enough' it would go away... Ruined a pair of her shoes intentionally.
I also managed to get a torn esophagus (too much stomach acid going the wrong way) and there's nothing quite as surreal and terrifying as vomiting blood at 2 a.m. when you are 5 months pregnant.
Praying she just got dehydrated and doesn't have HG. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
I hope the morning sickness lets up for her. H&H 9 months dear!
ReplyDeleteSuccession laws were changed last year. Boy or girl the 1st born child will be heir.
ReplyDeleteI really like Kate's dress in this picture.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Wills and Kate! I think this is wonderful news :D Hopefully this yucky morning sickness will pass and she can move on to the happier 2nd trimester when everyone glows. FYI - the anti-nausea point is on the inner wrist about two finger breadths up from the wrist crease, for any mommas needing some self help. Google P6 acu point.
ReplyDeleteSo do we think she was preggers when the nekkid pics were taken or could that have been conception weekend? Tacky question but that's where my mind went.
@ dis papaya I bought seabands which are bracelets that press down on that accupressure point and they have been a godsend!!!!!
DeleteLol to your curiosity. I read on CNN she is not quite 12 weeks. Lets assume she's 11. I am 14 weeks preggo and my date of conception is guessed to be Sept 10th. So 3 weeks back from that would be......?
@ I mean 3 weeeks FORWARD. I think the Scandal happened around early Sept and if shes 11 weeks she would have conceived early October. Oh well it was fun to guess. OR shes lying about how far along she is so people don't make the connection with those topless pix!!
DeleteHollyweird - so glad it's helping! the math around the expected date always boggles my mind.
DeleteI also went to read DM after everyone said it was HG and not just acute morning sickness as the obviously male Enty put in the post. Poor thing. I hope it doesn't last the whole time. Acu can help for sure, but not for everyone. Glad your magic bracelets are working!
This Anglophile says "YAY!"
ReplyDeleteHappy for them! Although I have a feeling the relentless paps will be even worse now; at first, it was waiting for the baby...now it'll be waiting for the bump.
ReplyDeleteAnd HG is no joke, from the stories I've read. Glad she's seeking treatment.
@dia, I would be willing to bet those photos were "conception weekend", for sure. :)
I don't know why I'm excited about this seeing as I'm American, lol. But I am!
ReplyDelete@Call me yndy... Oh wow, that sounds so awful. :(
ReplyDeletePoor Harry. Another step away from the throne.
ReplyDelete@Jane I think Harry has always preferred being the 2nd born, he knows he gets the perks but nowhere near as much as william. :)
DeleteCongrats to her and hope she starts to feel better. I always heard that bad morning sickness often portends a healthier baby but Robin cleared that up.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to them! I know all about acute morning sickness, I've battled it this pregnancy. I sure hope it gets better for her.
ReplyDeleteI love pregnant women and babies! :)
What's Suri's Burn Book?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info on the succession change. Good to hear GB is finally entering the 21st century!
ReplyDeletejane3113 - But now Harry can party more! No need to settle down anytime soon. Harry would be a fun King though.
ReplyDeleteCornbread - Can you imagine when the little one discovers their conception pics? My oh my! No one wants to think about their parents having sex let alone see a full magazine spread. At least we know it's really Wills' baby! Go Wills!
Yay! I'm glad that they're pregnant. She's been looking grumpy and pissed off lately in public appearances. Plus she looks like she gained a teeny tiny bit of weight in the face lately. Usually she looks like she needs to eat, and I'd imagine that the horrible sickness put a strain on her already frail body. It's not like she has alot of extra fat to live off if she is puking constantly. Good for her though, it must be kind of a relief, and must be such a happy event for the Brits!
ReplyDeleteLittle Miss Smoke and Mirrors - Suri's Burn Book is one of the best blogs. Ever. Check it out! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Hollyweird!
ReplyDeleteWe need a tally of how many preggos we have on CDaN. Aren't there four or five of us by now? So neat!
I totally called this last week.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=37309174&postID=2665643645511116284&isPopup=true
The only thing I didn't anticipate is them releasing the news before the first trimester was up, but they had no choice since she was hospitalized.
It's not a done deal yet. The parliament has to vote on it.
ReplyDeleteHow many of us are pregnant? Seems like loads!
ReplyDeleteI'm now at 23 weeks but I ended up in hospital early on as the morning sickness got so bad and aggravated another health issue. When you can't keep water down you can't keep meds down either.:(
Congrats to all the CDaN expectant mothers!
ReplyDeleteI love the pregnant ladies and babies too :)
I sincerely hope that all goes well. I've had friends suffer from this HG and it is awful and very dangerous. And it seems like the announcement was timed to address rumours caused by her entering hospital. It can go on and on for the whole pregnancy, not just the first trimester. I wish them all well.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to them both! I'm not very fond of Kate, but whatever.
ReplyDeleteI was far more sick with my second child (a boy) then my first (also a boy). I lost 10 pounds during my first trimester, and gained less than 20 total by the end.
ReplyDeleteShe must be under tremendous stress. Hope she'll be okay.
Call me yndy:
ReplyDeleteThat sounds truly awful, I had no idea how serious this condition was, I hope that Kate and the baby will be ok.
SusanB:
We're not that backward; we've had a female prime minister (1979-1990) and gay civil partnerships have been legally recognised since 2004. I think that's quite good going really.
The holdup on the reform of succession laws wasn't the UK Parliament. The Queen is head of state of 25 or so other Commonwealth nations and they had to get each one to sign off on the change. I read that it is a done deal as of Oct 2011.
ReplyDeleteugh, groan, now i have to hear about this all the time for the next 9 months. but, happy time for them! after the morning sickness is over, that is.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Cornbread and Emma F!! Cornbread, how far along is your Mini Cornbread? :D
ReplyDeleteSo happy to be in the US during the endless media coverage there will now be back home.
ReplyDelete::raises hand::
ReplyDeleteI too went immediately to see what Suri's Burn Book had to say about this.
Good luck to them! Hope she feels better soon.
Ugh, poor thing! I remember it well, and was never admitted to the hospital, so she must feel miserable. Welcome to motherhood, largest club in the world. We all look out for each other:)
ReplyDeleteFirst thing I did was check Suri.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the couple and congrats to all the CDAN preggos!! I love love love babies, I hope everything goes smoothly for everyone!
I think Wills and Kate have more sense than (excluding Queen Elizabeth) the rest of the Royal Family put together.
ReplyDeleteThey are smart enough to protect their relationship and stay close. Diana would be so proud of them.
YAY!
ReplyDeleteI hope it's a girl named DIANA! Ha! I'm a typical American.
Yes, the laws of succession HAVE been changed. Done deal.
I find Will and Kate beyond boring. I guess it's a good thing, since they aren't out making assholes of themselves. I'm just not interested. At. All.
ReplyDeleteOh, gurl(s), I am so there with you. My all day sickness was not HG, but it was constant nausea all day, every day for 8 full months. I feel for all if you.
ReplyDeleteAnd yay! Babies! Healthy pregnancies for all you preggos, being pregnant in the winter is so cozy....
Thanks to you commenters a few months ago, I wasted an entire weekend reading SurisBurnBook, it is hilarious!
Both my sister and my Daughter spend most of their pregnancies in the hospital. My sister for severe morning sickness and my daughter for constant preterm labor. My Daughter only gained 5 lbs and had her Daughter at 7 1/2 months. Wonderful baby girl. My daughter could wear all her normal clothes and people did not know she was pregnant. She ate like a horse and had no morning sickness. My sister could not even keep water down and gave birth at 7 months. He grew up to play Football in Iowa (College). I had NO morning sickness just constant heartburn. I had to carry peppermints and saltines everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI am happy for them. I like good news.
I hope Kate feels better soon! I had hyperemisis with my son and was in the hospital for a week. The throwing up stopped at exactly six months, but it was the worst time of my life. Of course my wonderful baby was worth it, but I feel terrible for anyone who ever has to deal with this. She must be feeling pretty bad if she's in the hospital and already announced it. Cheers to a healthy baby though!
ReplyDelete@solarpower - thanks... It's the short version, I try not to go too into depth b/c I was the exception not the rule. I don't know if I would've pushed on getting pregnant if I'd known ahead of time this existed. But it was worth it. My daughter is the heart of my world.
ReplyDelete@Rox - despite birth complications and near death? Both my daughter and I are happy and thriving today. A good hospital and doctor made the difference. I'm sure Kate & baby will have the best the UK has!
@iheartgoss - much love and sympathy to you! Wishing you a short duration of symptoms and a happy & healthy rest of it. Congrats! And seriously, just throw saltines like daggers at anyone who suggests them more than once! :-)
The rest of you preggo CDANers? Thank you for perpetuating your genes - the world needs more caring, smart, and fun people with a sense of humor like most of the folks here tend to be!
(SIGH).....GMA sent Lara to England just to stand in front of (the hospital?) and report the pregnancy. This is going to b an effing nightmare of endless media coverage...../
ReplyDeleteI am a bit surprised they're releasing so early - I didn't tell anyone but my husband and best friend before 3 months (the "magical miscarriage past" date that stupid book told me about). But if she's in the hospital for HG, they probably couldn't keep it under wraps.
ReplyDeleteI *do not get* the British dislike of her. She's lovely and by most accounts, very charming. She reminds me of Queen Victoria (the first, the Queen Mum) - I just watched The King's Speech (there is an upside to being under the weather - Netflix, knitting, purring lap kitty, tea) and was very impressed with Helena Bonham Carter's role. I googled and wiki'ed the hell out of QV1 and wow!
"She reminds me of Queen Victoria (the first, the Queen Mum)"
ReplyDeleteThe Queen Mum was not Victoria. She was Elizabeth (Bowes-Lyon).
And there is negative British sentiment regarding Kate? I've never heard of that, and I'm a fairly ardent Anglophile...
Anyway, I also adored THE KING'S SPEECH and I enjoyed the portrayals of the Royal family. It seems that I've heard that Queen Elizabeth (current) was a fairly cold parent, but her mother Elizabeth and her father Bertie seemed very warm and loving to Elizabeth and Margaret, didn't they?
ReplyDeleteSupposedly William and Harry also got a real kick out of their great-grandmother, who apparently had a wicked sense of humor. It's always nice to near about the human side of the Royals, no?
Sorry, I was still on cold meds when I typed Victoria - meant Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteEvery article I've read on DM or other sites about Kate Middleton, there are a bunch of snarky comments about her being a commoner, her family "fame-seeking" (esp after the Pippa book disaster), etc. One of my UK friends said Brits are looking at her as the next Diana. (Which is sucky, because Diana got the short end of that stick.)
The King's Speech was soooo wonderful, I can't believe I missed it the first time 'round. It came out shortly after my surgery, so I was out of it for a while. Missing a movie starring Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter, Geoffrey Rush? Oh yes, I was definitely on pain meds!!
Elizabeth 1 was, from what I've read, a very personable lady. She refused Bertie's marriage proposals twice, not because she didn't want to marry him, but because she didn't want to live the "royal life." They both doted on their daughters (the scene in the movie where mom tells the girls that the palace will have plenty of room for their toy horses made me laugh with delight).
I, too, wonder why Elizabeth 2 was such a cold fish, but <3 the Royals.
Heheheh, I thought you might have actually meant E, not V. Just clarifying. ;-)
ReplyDeleteRoyal-watcher here, too. I second everything you said, except that I didn't realize the fame-seeking part. Which I suppose makes sense. (Not that she IS, or even her family is, but that folks over there might think that).
Feel better with your cold. :-)
@Robin please don't encourage pregnant women to smoke pot! Especially during the first trimester when most birth defects occur!
ReplyDeleteI really don't have a problem with pot unless it completely interferes with your life or leads you to do/get addicted to harder stuff (i.e. Amanda Bynes). As a nurse I have just seen too many babies that are born with issues from mothers who used while pregnant, or who are even withdrawing themselves! Super sad.
