Also in St. Barth's and trying to work off her annual meal is Rachel Zoe.
Kate Walsh looks amazing.

A letter from a Chinese factory worker who hid the note in a Halloween package he assembled and ended up in Oregon.

Adam looks like Ross from friends on my phone's screen :)
ReplyDeleteBravo to the worker for smuggling that note, that was very brave.
That note breaks my heart.
ReplyDeleteYikes @ that note. :(
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if any action was taken in response to that note? It is heartbreaking!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's remarkable and sad at the same time. Good for that worker. I wonder what the product was.
ReplyDeleteNot liking Kate Walsh's outfit. It's got some futuristic vibe going for it.
OK, the Rachel Zoe thing made me laugh, because the way the wind is blowing, it looks like she has a really large backside and everything else is super-thin. Baby's adorable!
Look at Eddie's kid happily waving while Falcor stalks him. And whoever came up with that nickname, THANK YOU! I giggle every time I read it - Neverending Story was one of my favorite movies as a kid.
DBZee, I think Michael K of Dlisted came up with that. That note is heartbreaking. I hope action was taken, but I doubt it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I think it's awesome that Kimora and Russell get together with their SO's. It is great for the kids.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/27/business/signs-of-changes-taking-hold-in-electronics-factories-in-china.html?smid=fb-nytimes&_r=0
ReplyDeleteAhhh, no pics allowed with Rachel Zoe's limbs showing!
ReplyDeleteWhen did Kate and Matt get married ?
ReplyDeleteMBK - nice article, but I'm sure the changes are only with major multi-nationals who have the power and sense of responsibility. I bet that's a very minor portion of factories in China.
ReplyDeleteMy husband has travelled to China numerous times and says it's the most capitalistic country in the world, because the govt owns a percentage of every company there and so gets a cut of every single profit.
What worries me is if they tracked down whoever wrote the note. So sad.
That was my first thought too. He/she probably knew they were risking their life.
DeleteThat note is heart wrenching to read. The best thing we can do as a group is to be conscious and buy as few made in china products as possible. I know that I am guilty of having purchased a whole lot of them for the holidays. I will certainly be more aware and proactive in my choices from now on.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it bad to wear your hair up as tight at LeeAnn does? Pulls back your hairline or something.
ReplyDeleteThat is MOST factories in China...when US company execs visit these sweatshops, they are on their best behavior and take care not to show their enslavement. They have finally stopped making children work as employees, but the torture is very believable.
ReplyDeleteIs Kate married to Mat??? Thought they were engaged.
ReplyDeleteIs Kate married to Mat??? Thought they were engaged.
ReplyDelete"We're in no position to confirm the veracity or origin of this," Sophie Richardson, China director at Human Rights Watch. If it is true, since the exact location was given, I assume the writer is no longer with us.
ReplyDeleteAs I understand the guy wrote the letter from Labour Camp. That means this is not quite the same as common factory. The people are treated like slaves until they serve their sentence.
ReplyDeleteSee last paragraph "without Court Sentence" and attempt to express that they are held unlawfully because they practice a religion that the Party doesn't like. You can't serve out your sentence if you don't have one :(
DeleteAs if the US hasn't been ignoring the Chinese human rights violations for decades... When Nixon got us "in" TPTB decided it was better to turn a blind eye than to risk losing the trade. My heart goes out to the author. Would love to know why whomever posted the photo didn't blur out the identifying info? Way to make sure that guy doesn't send out any more notes :(
ReplyDeleteKimora looks great.
ReplyDeleteRussell's girlfriend looks under age.
What's with the bun? Hate that look on Leeann and beyonce. Fix your hair already or pay someone to style it for you. We know you can afford it!
Someone please tell Zoe to burn those hats.
ReplyDeleteRachel Zoe frustrates me. She helped bring that super waif look back to Hollywood, and made skinny chic again, but is now so thin she can't even show her body. So isn't that as bad as being fat? Ughhhh
ReplyDeleteI think the likelihood of people boycotting Chinese made products is as likely as boycotting guns in the U.S.
ReplyDeleteThere's too many selfish people that that's ever going to work at this point. Few are willing to wait a month or two more to save up to buy something, they want it now so they want it cheaper.
Agreed Black Cat. That's the message everyone puts out yet Wallmart and other retailers thrive. Didn't someone do a show where they tried to buy stuff NOT made overseas and it was virtually impossible.
DeleteFree Tibet.
ReplyDeleteI just saw the letter on the news - the lady bought a Halloween decoration kit (plastic tombstones) from Kmart last year, and opened it this October. They said US Customs is investigating and Kmart issued the usual "we're investigating our subcontractor" statement.
ReplyDeleteit's all about small businesses. living in nyc, it's easy to get a hold of locally made products. whenever i visit my mom though, my only choice is walmart. those people are monsters
ReplyDelete@ The Black Cat - I have a friend who refuses to buy anything made in China. Shopping with her is a commitment: she looks at every item to check the MADE IN stamp on the bottom. If it says "Made in China" or "Made in PRC" (Peoples Republic of China - which she tells me is a misleading trick) she will not buy it. She ate off paper plates for over a year after she moved because she couldn't find new dishes that she liked that weren't made in China (ha! most china is made in China!). I've started looking at the MADE IN stamps because of her and an astonishing number of goods are made in China and most are very flimsy/cheaply made and not built to last.
ReplyDeleteIs it me or is Kimora channeling her inner Diana Ross in that shot? Fierce!
ReplyDeleteI've got a Where's Waldo thing happening here. Is Russel Simmons even in that photo with Kimora? I feel like I'm going bonkers
ReplyDeleteOK - some of you admitted to thinking John Mayer was hot? I can top that. I think Eddie Cibrian is pretty foxy. Not a fan of his personal life, but he looks like a cross between my ex husband and my neighbor (and they're both pretty stinkin cute)
That's great Mango but she's in the minority, most people on this blog have admitted they have zero patience, how many do you think would take the time to check labels? People in general have become so lazy they just don't give a shit about anyone else if it is going to impact their precious time. Oh God they might miss 5 minutes of Honey Boo Boo.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is very difficult finding items not made in China but it doesn't help when so many shop in stores that have manufacturing facilities in China like Walmart does. At this point there is no incentive for Americans to bring their manufacturing back home as they could not compete with cheaply made products made offshore. It's a twisted mess which isn't going to get better, it's only going to get worse and poor Obama has nothing to do with it.
While I do love her. Rachel Zoe's shoulder and arm look horrible. Damn girl.
ReplyDeleteThere's a great recent article about GE and their Appliance Park. It's been mostly dormant for some time, but they're bringing products back to make in USA. They're making water heaters and dishwashers again, and found they can actually do it cheaper.
ReplyDeleteThere were quite a few TV segments where someone would purchase everything they'd need in a house with "Made in USA" goods. The ones I've seen, the people were able to find nearly everything -- appliances, textiles, etc.
That letter is just heartbreaking! And makes me angry too! I've been looking at the labels more than ever but it's going to take more than that and yes Agent**it! Free Tibet!
ReplyDeleteHere's another trick companies use. I worked for a factory that made a product ADVERTISED AS "Proudly Made in the USA." On the back it had a sticker that warned comsumers from trying to open the back and service the product themselves, but on the inside there was a sticker that told the truth: "Assembled in the USA from foreign made components." We would get boxes of the inner workings from China, put them in a plastic shell, and the company got to call it Made in the USA.
ReplyDeleteI spent a year and a day working for them, and used my accrued vacation time to move and find something that's better--still keeps me poor, but it's better. I think the factory has been shut down, but the product still exists, so I don't know where it is made now.
It is hard to find dishes that are not from China - I originally wanted to find non-Chinese made cups because of the safety of their glazes. Portmerion (sp?) is made in England - great alternative for me.
ReplyDeleteI buy things from second hand stores, I would never have been caught dead in those places when I was younger but I happily go in as many as possible to check out unique stuff and because it's a way to recycle and it's a lot cheaper too. E-Bay is another alternative to sourcing things you cannot find locally.
ReplyDeleteUnless a law was passed to limit the amount of products that were imported from China, I cannot see the masses caring too much where they cheaply made products come from.
nessa is right, supporting small and local businesses is the best way to not only support US made goods, but our own local economy. But it's tough if you live in a small town or rural area. Even in a "big" city, our number of small businesses for goods that we use is limited.
ReplyDeleteRe: finding US made china...I have an obsession with Fiestaware, made by Home Laughlin China, based in WV. They've manufactured in the US since the 1870s. That isn't WHY I started collecting...my grandma and mom both did, which got me hooked. But as I've gotten older, I've learned to appreciate the company that much more because of it.
Sunny, I think Eddie is hotter than John any day of the week! :)
@Cornbread
ReplyDeleteFiestaware is gorgeous, and I think will always grow in value. The colours were so ahead of their time, and are just so appealing.
Secondhand stores are where I buy almost everything.

ReplyDeleteSince i am a potter, i must add that locally made pottery would be another alternative, in addition to that, it is easy to find cups and mugs made in other countries, england for example in tj maxx and marshalls.
