Now All They Need Is A Stanley

Obviously a fan of anything with LV in it, Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camilla Alves named their son Livingston. They already have a son name Levi and a daughter Vida. I thought at first the might shorten his name to Livi but that would be confusing. They have a jean manufacturer and the Spanish word for life. It kind of goes with the other L and V sounds, but is so much longer than the others. I don't think there is really anything wrong with the name, but it just does not seem to fit.

  4. Lol Mitch! He's pulling an Anne Hathaway! Ya know, she may deserve it but part of me doesn't want her to get it just cause she so blatantly went for it. Whose with me??!!!

  5. Yeah Anne is right out there, she gets on my nerves...Matthew looks like crap

  6. Livingston does fit because Levi is an anagram of live. All 3 names are in line with Matthew's personal motto "Just Keep Livin'"

  7. Livingstoned!

    Congrats MM and wife.

  8. Geez he looks awful. I know he lost the weight for some movie, but seems like it's been a long time he's been that anorexic looking.

  9. They do like the V names! @Bangagong that does make sense, thanks.
Add me as being annoyed by Anne lately. She was so cute when she did The Princess Diaries, but she seems pretty insufferable now.

  10. Sort of a long name, yes, but they will probably shorten it to "Stone" (being that they're in Hollywood), as a diminutive.

  11. I wonder when will they will get married?

  15. God he looks awful, can't wait until he's normal again.

I'm with DListed, they TOTALLY should have named the kid Loca.

I don't think there's anything wrong with naming your kid an unusual name, as long as it's not too out there. Pilot, Scout, etc. and too weird. Livingston, a little weird, but also a little traditional, just not for a first name. Congratulations to them, I like them as a couple. And I sincerely hope that the blinds that are suspected to be them or Tim McGraw/Faith Hill or McDreamy/the Noxzema girl aren't Matt and Cami. Do you all remember the one about the A list'er with the ex model wife, who had used heroin as a model and then introduced her man to it? I just hope that's not Matt, he seems like such a nice crunchy granola type.

    1. @unknown I remember that one and still hope it isn't them too! He seems like too much of a laid back stoner for heroin :(

  17. Parents who give their kids names that are difficult to spell, or that are very esoteric, are sometimes just trying to display their cleverness, or the depth of their knowledge. They might also be trying to rebel against the grain just one more time (at the expense of the kid sometimes).

  18. I really like the name :)

  19. Sometime choosing a name that isn't on the most popular list is just a way of the parent hoping their child will stand out in life rather than be blended in with all the other Tylers and Jasons or even Matthews for that matter. Walk into any school anywhere in North America and call out a name and 12 kids respond. Livingston isn't all that wild or crazy given some of the monikers Hollyweird people have come up with.

  21. Vida is also the Portuguese word for life. Considering that Camilla is Brazilian I would say that the name came from the Portuguese word and not the Spanish one. Livingston is kinda hard to pronounce when English is not your first language, at least it is for me.

  22. FFS, ENTY, CAMILA IS BRAZILIAN!!!!!! VIDA IS PORTUGUESE TOO!!!

Sorry, can't take it anymore, the whole "vida is life in Spanish", completely ignoring that it is also in Portuguese and that's why the used it.
I think it's funny because I thought Levi and Vida were ok but now with Livingston they're are really pushing the "living" thing, there's so much you can be creative with a word, huh?
But... it is a maybe and a joyful moment for them, so congrats!!!

  23. @Catarina, I think you pronounce "lívinstãn"

But... I haven't heard it, so not sure, lol

  24. Livingston is a town in West Lothian, Scotland. Not much of a tie to either parent, so maybe they just liked the sound of it.

  25. @White lilly, yes, maybe with a brazilian accent it sounds like "lívinstãn". lol

  28. I have issues because all i can think is i hope they have a fourth child named Loca for, Livingston Le(vi) Vida Loca.

    I apologize that was awful

  29. Ugh, I bet his nickname will be Livin'.

  30. Livingston is a fairly traditional family name in the English / Irish tradition.

  31. "Livingston, an old English name which means 'dear friend's place,' joins big brother Levi, 4, and sister Vida, who turns 3 next month. All three McConaughey siblings have their mother's maiden name, Alves, as their middle name."

  32. Levi is a biblical name. Not just jeans.

  33. There is a Lake Livingston in East Texas. Didn't they get married in Texas?

  34. Oh, please, please, please, let them have another son and name him Stanley.

  38. Remember when Matt Damon risked his health permanently by dieting like this? I'm not even a Matthew M fan and pictures like this seem macabre regardless of the role he's working on.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah, Matthew mentioned that they chose Levi because its biblical and Levi was some kind of extension of Matthew in the bible. I don't know much about the story, though.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hum... so I understand the Loca joke, but I don't understand the "Stanley" :(

  41. David Livingstone was a Scottish 19th century medical missionary, doctor, and explorer who went to central Africa and lost contact with the west during his journeys. Henry Stanley was an American journalist who was sent by his paper to find him. He was successful, and greeted the doctor with the now famous question, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?"

There is much more to the story, it is pretty fascinating. I became more interested in the topic after reading King Leopold's Ghosts - an amazing read about the Belgian Congo (one thing Belgium most definitely did not do well).

    ReplyDelete
  42. @White Lily, it's from the expression "Dr. Livingstone, I presume?" (Livingston/Livingstone, close enough.) There was a famous explorer called Dr. Livingstone and he was asked that question by another explorer called Dr. Stanley.

When I was little I saw a doctor called Dr. Livingstone and I SO wanted to use that expression on him when I met him...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oops, Stanley was a journalist, V's got it.

Matthew looks really sick in that pic. Someone brought up Anne Hathaway, but for all her bragging about her weight loss, I think Matthew looks WAY worse than Anne has ever looked.

  44. @Krissie, yeah, I've never guessed thay, lol!! Thanks for the info!!

  45. Meh I'm not sure I would choose Livingston for my baby, but for a while there I also wanted to name my first son Sirius so I can't judge.

  46. James Taylor's brother is named Livingston. He's also a folk singer, I've seen him he puts on a great live show.

  47. You know those super-high-speed photos they take of stuff like a punch from a boxer or popping a water balloon? His face looks like where they shoot an arrow through an apple, and it's not come out the other side yet. (Okay, a very short arrow, lol.)

Whatever movie he looks like that for, I hope it wraps soon and he gains back that weight.

She let Matt name this one

  49. @Pookie...I love Livingston Taylor. He is a great singer/songwriter in his own right and does some great work for animals.

  50. I thought there was a Livingston, Texas, and I thought that's where my buddy Jimmy Buffett got the idea for "Livingston Saturday Night." Anyone know?
