MLB Player Tori Hunter Does Not Want To Play Baseball With Gay People
Tori Hunter is one of the highest paid players in Major League Baseball. He also has the opinion that he would never play with an openly gay baseball player and feels like if there was one on his team it would divide the team and it would be unable to succeed. You know, because everyone would be scared? I don't get that at all. He says it is because of his Christian beliefs and that is not the way he raised his family. Umm, I think his son was charged with sexual assault of a child but I guess playing with guys like that on your team would be ok because it was heterosexual.
Ugh. I was a Torii Hunter fan when he played for the Twins, but he's slowly been exposing himself to be someone I can't get behind. Sometimes I wish people could just say, "Your lifestyle does not align itself to my belief system, but I recognize that you're not asking me to live the same life."
ReplyDeleteWith a name like Torii (that's how it's correctly spelled) who is he to judge anyone?
ReplyDeleteI have a severe allergy to stupid people. Where can we put them? The ig'nants and the racisct and the homophobic...
ReplyDeleteQueen please! See the attached link for why homophobia is just being ashamed of your inner own inner gayness. Proven.

Good going, Reese! Rant about stupidity and then go and misspell RACIST!!! /hangs head and goes for more coffee
ReplyDeleteThere was an article a while back about how football players were surprisingly smarter and had more "normal" views than baseball players, who don't go through the same kind of university education process that professional football players go through. Most NFL players have been forced to attend tons of classes and to write papers and read books, and even the anti-gay ones come across as a little more thoughtful than the MLB gay-haters.
ReplyDeletewhat happened to judge not, lest ye be judged? some so-called christians are such assholes.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, does anyone else think that his outfit looks surprisingly twee for a baseball player?
ReplyDeleteHahah!
DeleteHahah!
Delete2002 Sports Illustrated asked New York Yankees pitcher Mike Mussina if he would accept a gay teammate, Mussina replied, “I’m going to make the assumption that I already have.” I have never forgotten that and thought it was a classy answer, even though he was wearing a Yankees uniform at the time .
ReplyDelete@ Agent - love it!
DeleteWhat an ass
ReplyDeleteAs a Tigers fan, I'm sickened that he's now on my team.
ReplyDelete@Linda C - And as a fan of the Yankees and Indians, I'm going to hope our players start yelling "Nice ass Torii!" every time he comes to the plate.
ReplyDeleteYou've got to love these people who interpret "Christian beliefs" as a reason to reject, avoid, and otherwise discriminate against anyone who isn't exactly like them.
ReplyDeleteChrist turned the religious establishment of His time on it's head precisely because HE didn't operate that way, HELLO
@phoenix - your last line there is brilliant and should be printed on t-shirts and mailed to the leaders of religious establishments everywhere - love it!
Delete@Barton, there was an article on Cracked that said the linebackers were actually the smartest guys on the team. Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteHas this guy been lunching with Kirk?
So he's Christian, just not Christ-like. Got it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Frufra. I'm not even all that religious and to me it's clear as day. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteI love that quote, Agent**It. I would love to see a baseball player reveal his sexuality, just to show idiots like Tori that these guys aren't any different than him.
ReplyDeleteIt's coming and it will be a huge money maker when it does. I'm in:)
ReplyDeleteOf professional athletes, baseball players sometimes seem to have the largest moneymakers, if you'll pardon my stripper jargon.
ReplyDeletestupid is as stupid does
ReplyDeleteWhere are Christians getting that it's okay to discriminate against gays or anyone? I've read the Bible several times and he is not about that at all.
ReplyDeleteFrom the Old Testament. Also in the Old Testament, a father could stone his daughter to death if she had been raped.
DeleteJust wanted to add the link to You Can Play. This charity was begun by Brian Burke, GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and his son Patrick Burke, Scout for the Philadelphia Flyers, to honour the life of Brendan Burke, lost tragically in a car accident. He came out in the world of college sports in the US, a great hockey mind, and a great person.
ReplyDeletehttp://youcanplayproject.org
Sorry my phone ate my hot link. Amber needs to teach my OS how, I guess!
DeleteIf you can play, you can play
DeleteBravo Burkie and Bravo Mari....
Jesus, that is.
ReplyDelete@Unknown1, Torii's outfit in that picture isn't "twee", it's classic preppy. But nice baiting there.
ReplyDeleteI'm willing to bet this asshole would change his mind pretty quickly if this hypothetical gay person was a home run master or whatever they call really really good ball players. Kind of hard to stand by your religious principles if the gay guy you hate could get you to the world series.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's OK in his book to have a hetero son who does things like THIS:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-57435489-504083/torii-hunters-son-accused-of-being-part-of-sex-club-that-drugged-girls/
@Agent*it - hadn't heard the quote - it was great!
ReplyDeleteWe were thinking about going to see the Tigers when they're in Florida for Spring Training, but maybe we'll stick to the Pirates and Cards instead.
Remember gang, one asshole doesn't speak for all of those who believe.
ReplyDeleteWho is this doink anyway?
Oh and to quote Tater Salad "you can't fix stoopid"
ReplyDeleteEh, Kevin Baxter has been known to take things out of context to sell a story. I'd like to see a transcript of the entire interview.
ReplyDeleteI can believe that Mr Hunter doesn't approve of homosexuality based on religious beliefs, but I don't believe he'd refuse to play with an openly gay player.
@Moonmaid, oh that's rich. Clearly Tori Hunter's thinking and example are spot on and paying huge dividends.
ReplyDeleteSo shall we start a pool on when he'll be outed?
ReplyDeleteWhy wld he even bring this up??!! So dont play. Oh and your ignorance is appalling.
ReplyDelete“The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable.” ― Brennan Manning
ReplyDeletethis tori guy has it seriously twisted and distorted...he could stand to read a little brennan manning.
Barton, are you wearing vanilla perfume?
ReplyDelete@Pookie: Love it!!! This guy's attitude is exactly why I'm anti-religion. And, just UGH on the rapist son, if it is true.
ReplyDeleteThat's okay. I wouldn't want to play baseball with HIM. And I certainly wouldn't want him hitting on me in the locker room every time he thought no one was looking...
ReplyDeleteDoth do protest too much!
ReplyDeleteMaybe not appropriate, but all i can think of is a "what team does he really play for?" joke
ReplyDeleteI doubt his mother raised him to be a righteous asshole either, and yet...
Negros need to learn not to let their mouths dictate their check $tubs.
ReplyDeleteGay is the new Black.
Considering that roughly 10% of the pop is gay, that is like saying you don't want to work anywhere. Therefore, this jackass should just stay home.
ReplyDeleteThe man's name is Tori and he looks like Kirby Puckett's "differently-abled" twin - does anyone really care what he thinks?
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that white liberals attack the black community for their views on homosexuality.
ReplyDeleteRacists!
Pass the popcorn...
Janet296 said...
ReplyDeleteConsidering that roughly 10% of the pop is gay,
Um, really?
You have a source for that statistic?
Because the US CDC says it is 2-3%
I just want to add that all Christians don't think like this stupid ass. I'm a christian, go to church every Sunday and support gay marriage and I'm pro-choice. We aren't all self-righteous pricks. Hell I got my own sins to worry about, I can't be concern with everybody else's.
ReplyDeleteAmen!
DeleteSee the attached link for why homophobia is just being ashamed of your inner own inner gayness. Proven.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny.
"Proven" doesn't mean what you think it means.
According to this Gallup poll, Kinsey guessed 10% of the population was light in the loafers and now it's estimated the actual figure is between 3 and 8, but there's no hard data.
ReplyDeleteIf the word "hard" made you chuckle you're a bad person.
@Dr. Steve.....lol, it totally did!
DeleteOH MYYYYYYY........
ReplyDelete(in Takei voice)
What fresh hell hath whipped upon these storied threads o' CDaN? If only we had a Mayor & a gal-figurehead, to assist him in running the hobos out. On a rail.
AND THEIR BINDLES TOO!
I occasionally wonder why anti-gay people are so eager to demonstrate that there are no gay people? It's ... it's kinda weird.
ReplyDeleteBut...those figures clearly show there are gay people. Even at 3%, which is the low-end estimate, that's roughly 9.3 million homosexuals in the U.S. alone - 24.9 million if you go with 8%.
ReplyDeleteThat's no small number and in no way meant to demonstrate there are "no gay people."
And before someone accuses me of being a homophobe: correcting someone's statistics doesn't mean you disagree with them, it means you want to make sure the facts are properly represented.
ReplyDeleteBefore you assume I'm talking to you, think, think, think!
ReplyDeleteFair point. I'll go stand in the corner and think about what I've done.
ReplyDeleteProbably because he would be too tempted to finally succumb to his own homosexuality with such positive, out and proud role models around him. Guy's gotta keep up an image, ya hear.
ReplyDeleteI wonder who people will hate after homosexuality is finally a non issue. My guess is the gingers. Soon ginger rights will be a thing of the past in this ass crazy world.
Unknown I knew where you were going with the "twee" comment. He is dressed mighty spiffily. The trends now are very metrosexual, which is funny for someone who is so homophobic like Torii (Dafuq is up with that second "i")
And in the great wise words of Alana "Honey Boo Boo Child":
Everyone is a little bit gay!
The left handed population is at least 10%...aaaand that's the only statistic I know. As a left handed individual I for one would like to see more accommodations made for those us who were born this way.
ReplyDeleteAgreed about things taken out of context, I would also like to read the entire article.
And wow the irony in those saying 'judge not' and such while calling all Christians assholes and demonizing the faith (and the followers of the faith). If you can't see how absolutely ridiculous that is then I just don't know what to tell you.
To the one who mentioned Manning- Good call. Personally I would suggest CS Lewis.
Happy 2013 All! Be safe tonight
@Agent, I love that quote.
ReplyDelete@phoenix, you are completely right, and I agree 110%. Well put.
Morons like Hunter who make these comments are the reason nice, normal, and open minded Christians (like me) get lumped into a group of "pseudo Christians." Mr Hunter, I hate to tell you, but you're not a Christian...you're a jackass. But don't worry, God still loves you.
We are simply called to love others the same way Jesus loved us - unconditionally and without limit. You cannot be a true Christian if your heart is full of hatred for other people.
The guy has a right to his opinion. I hope he does well for Detroit next year.
ReplyDeleteLol @Libby.
ReplyDeleteThis guy makes me sad in my gay lil heart.
$teppy!! Long time no $cie... I mean $ee...
ReplyDeleteShout out to steppy. 50% of me agrees with your statement. The other 50 thinks he's an ass.
ReplyDelete@Cornbread, well expressed yourself. Self-righteousness is the antithesis of that and a pitfall, but some people refuse see it.
ReplyDeleteWell ima pray for ya Hunter......you poor prepster doofus...
ReplyDeleteYou know who was a good Hunter?
Catfish Hunter.
@just curious
ReplyDelete"Negro' is an antiquated word. Nobody uses it anymore.
It's too bad when professional athletes use religion to exclude others. Unfortunately, there are a few Christian sects that believe 'witnessing' includes trying to shame people around them, such as gay athletes.
ReplyDeleteI don't know where Tori grew up, but he sounds as if he has lived a sheltered life if he doesn't realize that he has most certainly been playing with gay players all along.
Easy for WOMEN to be so pro-gay, since gay men don't hit on them. Let's compare apples to apples for a minute instead.
ReplyDeleteLet's abolish women-only health clubs and lockerrooms because women are "heterophobic." Of course these places could never -- NEVER -- exist because women don't want men they find extremely unattractive sharing their locker rooms, showers, etc. I mean, really, what are you AFRAID of, women?
Openly gay men at least let you know what they're about, but the closet cases are just predators who slip "under the radar." Tell me, ladies, do you like it when a man pretends to just want friendship even though he's scheming, HOVERING, waiting for an opportunity to get into your pants? You must be HETEROPHOBIC!!
If "homophbia" means not wanting unwanted, cloaked sexual attention from those I find extremely unattractive, I'll wear the label proudly.
Hey BetterOff, you sure enjoy tangents :) I'm sure no one who believes in non-discrimination would exclude phobics from that policy, but understand that a phobia is a personal problem, so the onus would be on you to avoid areas that make you uncomfortable rather than exclude those who make you uncomfortable from those areas.
ReplyDeleteBTW, unisex anything is an entirely different subject.
Where the HELL is enty?????????
ReplyDeleteBOS: Shut the fuck up, you sound like a complete moron as usual. Sorry you feel discriminated against because you're not allowed in the women's locker room or at Curves, but restraining orders aren't considered civil rights violations.
ReplyDeleteAs for Torii--last I checked, MLB wasn't exactly a high-contact sport. He's not gonna catch The Gay standing out in right field.
That said, it's no shock that the religious right deliberately raises bigots, so it's almost not worth clutching one's pearls over.
I've read a few articles about this and looked over the comments on those sites. This is the only site that doesn't overwhelmingly support Hunter (this place actually attacks him!).
ReplyDeleteInteresting.
