Lone Ranger Trailer

I will probably be wrong, but I just don't think this movie is going to do well.

  1. When I first saw Johnny Depp in costume at the theater, I started laughing hysterically. It definitely exceed the budget, but I don't think it's going to do as well as they hoped. It looks awful.

Why doesn't Johnny direct or write? Probs just doesn't want to. It just seems like he's got such an abundance of creativity and ideas, and lord knows he's been around film sets for so long he knows what works and what doesn't.

  4. Hollywood just doesn't get it. No one is interested in remakes of old movies, or movies of old TV series (or is it serieses?) Try something original for a change! Preferably something that needs actual acting instead of overwhelming special effects. One of the best movies I've seen in years was The King's Speech and the special effects were minimal - it was the ACTING and WRITING that made it a good movie.

  5. It will probably do well. There are a number of us who just follow Johnny Depp no matter what he does.

  6. SusanB, I'm with you...I hate it when TV shows or movies rely on effects or wild scenes to keep people watching. It's like the execs think the audience is not intelligent enough to pay attention to a good plot and great acting, so they throw explosions and boobs on the screen.

I have said that to my hubby many times about American Horror Story this season (and some of last). Too reliant on sex to keep the audience. It's really irritating.

  7. Because movie execs are extremely powerful and rich, overgrown manchildren who think their 'awesome' childhood memories should be the crappy, overproduced childhood memories of everyone forever, that's why.

  9. If you're going to make a nostalgia remake, at least make it nostalgic for active moviegoers, not for the nursing home crowd.

  10. @Ingrid - that explains all the "geek gets the hot girl" movies.

  11. I started cracking up when I saw him in this makeup in the theatre too. I just don't like Johnny Depp. I think he ruins movies. The last good thing I saw him in was POTC (the first one).

  12. I don't see the stink lines coming off this, but neither am I eager to see it.

@ seachica - Doubt the nursing home crowd has been interested in any of the many remakes. I'm a baby boomer so not quite ready for the home yet, but I'm not interested in these films either. Also not interested in anything Disney makes including Disneyland and Disney World.

  13. I'm gonna keep my pie hole shut because huge Depp fan that I am , I busted out laughing when I'd first read Disney was making a movie based on a theme park ride. I was certain my Johnny had fallen on hard times and needed the cash. WTF do I know?

  14. What is with the halloween costumne on Depp? Tonto never dressed like that for everyday! And he didnt talk to horses, or put ranger up on high platform, so he cld come back to life and , I dont know, fall off and really die??!! The oringinal story was fine as it was.

  16. I can't imagine how the movie could possibly be good enough to get past the enormous problem of having a white man play a Native character. And yeah, I know he's technically considered to be Indian, but that doesn't do anything to solve the big problem of Hollywood not having enough decent roles for people of color.

  17. I have to ditto several of you, [and i'm one of the older posters so take my comments w/a big old grain of salt].

The 'Powers that Be' in Hollywood just don't get it [Maybe because they are losers who can't get girls w/o casting them after subservient, sexual exploits?].

Please give us some original writing w/new concepts. Please give us brilliant, cogent, witty repartee, or mordant, deep thought about issues we deal with. We really don't need or want to be exposed to stupendous sound/visual/digital effects to take us out of our ability to suspend disbelief.

We don't need humongous 'blow your mind' special effects. The King's Speech is an excellent example of a film that seemed to cover a simple boring 'who cares' topic that was absolutely riveting in its final edited cut. I had to really lobby/urge several friends to see 'TKS' because it sounded so 'boring' to them. They unanimously agreed that the film was well worth their time and money.

By the same token, Iron Man had lots of fabulous special effects, but Pepper was a strong presence in the film. So, yes, please use the technology available now, but don't drop the creativity that can be provided by skilled writers and talented actors and actresses.
