Ke$ha Says She Was Forced To Sing Die Young Lyrics Even Though She Is One Of The Writers

In the aftermath of the Sandy Hook shootings, the Ke$ha song "Die Young" has been pulled from the rotations of many radio stations. Ke$ha took to her Twitter to apologize for her song and another Tweet that said she totally understands why radio stations don't want to play the song and then she said something truly bizarre. She said she was forced to sing the lyrics and didn't want to and objected to them. I understand her saying that if someone came up to her and said we bought this song and you have to sing it, but Ke$ha is a co-writer of the song and not just in name or as a record company favor, but as an actual participant in the writing of the song. This may be why she later deleted the Tweet that said, "I understand. I had my very own issue with 'die young' for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO." Guess she remembered that it was her idea for those lyrics.

  1. Never backtrack or make excuses for your art. Nobody could have foreseen this tragedy.

  4. I suppose someone forced her to do that creepy video too.

  5. It's "affected" not "effected." The verb is "affect." The noun is "effect." One of my big pet peeves.

Yeah a chipper, happy-go-lucky, good" beat to the words "we're gonna die young!!" - bizarre if you ask me

  7. Whenever my [alot] younger sister sings that song I cringe because she is only a couple years older than the kids that were killed. The thing is we dont even play songs like that around her, she gets it all from the school bus and her classmates.

  8. I feel for the families of this terrible tragedy but I really do think that this is just a song. Pumped Up Kicks was just pulled off the radio too. That song was actually about someone going into a school and shooting. It's a terrible tragedy what happened but this seems like a witch hunt.

  9. Depending on who the co-writer is, that might have been true. She is just one of two or more contributors. If more than one person is writing a song, they all won't get their own way about everything....

How does Enty know that Kesha wrote it and wasnt just thrown on the song credit for "credibility" like what happens for every other pop artist?

  11. I agree it is unfortunate timing and she shouldn't have to apologize for it.

Woa that video is even creepier than the song! Some weird satanic orgy broken up w police guns so that these people literally die young? Wtf???

  13. The song isn't literally about dying young, the line is "Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young." Isn't this a saying that's kinda been around forever.

Totally understand them pulling the song.

  14. I had to LOL when I got to the part about her writing the song. Her fan base are tweens and younger, why would you expose a song like this to them to begin with?

  15. FORCED to? Like she'd be murdered if she didn't? We all make compromises in our lives, so if she had to compromise her ethics for her career, she should own that.

Apologize if that's what you think you need to do, but don't blame others for your decision to compromise.

(I know nothing at all about the singer or her music, but I loathe the dollar sign in her name.)

  16. I like the song.

I think removing it from radio playlists is unnecessary. The lyrics are about partying. I'm not sure many people would have heard the song, connected it to the awful tragedy (which I am not for one second trivializing), and been outraged/offended by it were it not for the media coverage.
Same goes for canceling the Jack Reacher premier which smacked to me of trying to get extra publicity; highly tacky.

  17. It is kind of a weird theme, like that Pumped Up Kicks. Who thinks to write a cheerful ditty about a school massacre?

  19. I'm sorry. But this song Die Young isn't offensive to me. Keisha is getting lambasted for a song and singing the words die young (which came out before Sandy Hook). People die young all the time. It's sad, but true. They die of natural causes or horrific reasons like at Sandy Hook. Does this mean the song can never be played, because it will always offend someone? The real problem is crazy, psychotic, sick and twisted people who either had a horrible and disturbing upbringing, or are mentally ill.

Also, it's what is being shown to our youth in movies and on TV. That's what should actually be banned...that's what is disturbing and offensive to me. Children seeing young teenage actresses, dressing like cheap girls, selling sex and horror and war movies that are so graphic, that blood, gore and murder seem normal...this is also offensive and disturbing to me...more so than Keisha's song. I remember when JAWS used to scare young children...and seeing a dismembered arm or leg was traumatizing. Now it's just normal.

If you want to get to the real problem, let's work on sensoring what is shown to our youth, so they don't grow up too fast and don't find violence normal.

I don't think the song's that big of a deal. But then people are allowed to be sensitive in light of what happened.

  22. I think what she's saying is that while she Co-wrote the song, the chorus of the song was written by someone else. She probably came up with the rap part & someone else probably wrote the chorus.

Sounds like she got heat for the song & was frustrated that it was directed at her & threw the blame on the label.

Never talk bad on your label, Ke$ha, they're the ones that are actually in charge of your music career, not you

  23. I think it's awfully unfortunate timing, but she shouldn't be apologizing and trying to backtrack on the song. As stated above, she couldn't have foreseen the Sandy Hook killings. Her defense is odd.

  26. two thoughts - kesha's song is as inoffensive as saying "live every day like it's your last." and the foster the people song is over a year old and i doubt it was being played that much anyway. people need to untwist their panties. kesha's response was weird though.

  27. The song doesn't bother me. The video, on the other hand, is kind of amateurish and creepy.

  28. After finally seeing the video, I have to say- I prefer my Satanic/Illuminati imagery to be a little more subtle. HUUUGE Gaga influence.

  29. I personally don't find the song offensive - it just uses the saying "like we're gonna die young", it's a bout partying and it's a catchy tune. But perhaps if I was closer to Sandy Hook, hearing the words "Die Young" repeatedly on the radio in the days after the tragedy might leave me with a bad taste in my mouth, you know? I understand why they pulled it from rotation, same thing with "Pumped Up Kicks" which actually DOES touch on the subject of school shootings.

I'm prettyy sure this video is supposed to be a joke, though. It still does a great job of getting everybody used to this type of symbolism but I highly doubt it's meant to be taken seriously.

Lastly, speaking of things being cut in order to not offend - have you guys read about Disney removing three toy characters from the "Santa's Workshop" film from the 30's? They removed a black Picaninny-type doll, a blonde, blue-eyed doll, and a male doll with a long beard and big nose. This clip is shown on Swedish TV every Christmas Eve, every year, and some Swedes are VERY UPSET that their traditions, as racist as they may be, are being messed with by evil Disney.

  30. Ke¢ha is a joke. Anything she wears, "writes" or sings is a big stinky load of keshit.

  31. I hope this encourages her career to die young

  32. I like the song. Its not about actually dying but living it up and living in the moment. I totally rock out to it.

reading way to much into it

  33. Plus her people probably saturated that video in symbolism and immagry to drum up buzz and interest and get it more hits on youtube. Like everyone else, fashion, music, media, movies, television trying to make a buck off the whole Illuminati obsession these days.

  34. She shouldn't have to apologize for this, it's not like she knew this was going to happen. I do get why this song and Pumped up Kicks are being pulled temporarily though.
