Kathie Lee Gifford Broadway Show To Close After 3 Weeks

Kathie Lee Gifford tried to make it on Broadway and has failed spectacularly. After opening on November 15th, the musical Scandalous which she wrote is closing after just four weeks. Apparently the show is truly awful but could have been much better but Kathie Lee refused to make any suggested changes and wanted everything her way and there was no arguing with her. The show is way too long, but since Kathie lee wrote it all she wanted to hear it all every night and said the audience wanted to hear it all and needed it all to get the entire vision. Well, her vision has a few more days before it goes dark. The musical is about a female celebrity evangelist in the 1920's.

  1. At least it didn't close after 3 days.

  2. Is it three weeks, or four?

I read something about this evangelist, it seemed an interesting story.

  5. That's too bad because the story of Aimee McPherson is quite fascinating.

    1. if i were Hoda i would rather be jobless than sit and watch KLG brag all effin day. I am certain Hoda needs to be drunk not to punch her.

  7. B626---Kathie Lee would be a great QVC host. they'd probably let her drink too.

  8. ...because she's really not interesting without booze.

If she had done a one-woman drunken show, KLG would probably run on Broadway til she died. People love unpredictability. Trainwrecks too.

  9. @Poppyman: You said it! That woman's story, taking place in the early years of the 20th century, is an incredible tale of the rise and fall of the original female evangelist, the most successful of her era, replete with adultery, kidnapping, drugs, and various other scandals. Those in Los Angeles might know the Angelus Temple in Echo Park, the church she founded in 1923, and even a cursory overview of her story reveal events that could have happened a year ago, let alone 90 years ago.

  10. Yeah, it IS a fascinating story. Leave it to KLG to muck it up.

  11. I actually watched the first few minutes of the show today & she blamed it on Hurricane Sandy, but not her micro-managing of the show as all the news reports do.
All the stories say the show was too long & she refused to cut anything from it.
Well it did run for 29 performances, which is a lot better than a 1965 show "Kelly" which ran once!

  12. Too bad...it's a huge investment to put on a musical and it puts a lot of people out of work when a show closes.

The show is about Amy Semple McPherson--which is not a bad idea--she had a very dramatic life. Too bad it could not be fixed.

  13. Hm, I heard the opposite somewhere - that it was actually pretty good but they didn't think it would last because of the material (a little too goody, was what I read). But I could totally see it about her micro-managing. I'm OCD when I don't have my morning vino, too!

  15. She blamed it on Sandy? Wonder where she got that idea from.
