Hugh Jackman Talks About His Mom Leaving Him At 8

I don't know if it was the bacon vodka or some smoke in the air, but I might have got a little teary last night. Coincidentally  Hugh Jackman's interview with 60 Minutes was on and he was talking about being abandoned by his mother when he was 8. Probably smoke in the air.

Oh my God, Hugh Jackman abandoned by his Mom at 8 years old? I'm getting a little misty myself. How nice though that he's gone on to be such an incredible success, and he still seems humble and real. I hope that he really is that person. I wish him and his partner all the happiness in the world. It's great to see good people have good lives.

  6. I liked him before, but I really, really like him now. I'd never seen an interview with him before really. He seems like such a good guy.

  8. I too hope that he is as decent in real life as he appears. He seems to be one of the few guys in Hollywood who isn't a douchebag.

  9. Can't watch it. My heart hurts just knowing it.

  10. See , not everybody who has been through childhood trauma ends up using it as an excuse to justify doing... nothing... with their lives. Good for him .

    1. Exactly Agent. My grandmother died when my mom was just 10 years old. She had quite a difficult childhood afterwards but she never drank, did drugs, etc. She was and is an incredible mother and wife. Excuses have gotta stop. Life is what you make it.

  17. Perhaps people like Lindsay should look at this and then take another look at themselves.

  18. WATCH THE INTERVIEW!!! In case anyone else was wavering. Seriously, its a really nice 5 minutes. He's so likable and his respect for his father is touching. His father made him who he is, and I bet his siblings are equally decent people even if they aren't famous. And for Les Mis fans, watch the overtime interview, it's even more awesomeness.

  20. I find Australian accents so sexy and then Hugh. Good god that is some nice man meat there. He's gay right? Cuz that's what I typically fall for. Odd pattern. Our father disappeared at 8 ( for me anyway) would that be the cause?

  21. I bumped into him years ago, literally and it felt like I ran head first into a brick wall. He was so sweet and even more gorgeous in person. He made sure that I was ok and we joked for a few minutes. Being up against him, one of the best moments of my life so far ;)

  23. 60 minutes doesn't do fluff pieces, and this was a real look at an actor working his craft and how his life took him to where he is today. I just wish the french bulldog had been shown, god I love that frenchie.

  24. This is a terribly sad situation but I wonder if the same tears would be elicited if it had been Hugh's dad that abandoned him. We put an almost supernatural burden on mothers and fathers seem to get rewarded when they actually show up and behave like a parent.

  25. I've heard this before. It says a lot about the kind of person Hugh is that he has built a relationship with his mother as an adult. He seems like such a good person in real life.

  26. Like I didn't love him enough already! I'm so jealous of you @ Jazzy! My friend has seen him a couple of times at a bar in NYC having a beer and says he's really nice and down to earth, now if only I could run into him too...
