Umm...I can't read this.
ReplyDeleteI hope The Black Keys win! They are an amazing band and I got to meet them once and Dan and Patrick are super nice to fans. They signed my t-shirt!
ReplyDeleteAlso glad Alabama Shakes got nominated, the singer has an awesome set of pipes!
I could read it and can't believe we live in a world where Fist Brown can be nominated for anything beyond best prison bitch.
ReplyDeleteMy only comment is Dave Koz?! I remember that Kelly Taylor had her lame 21st birthday party at a Dave Koz concert on 90210. Clearly I've watched too much TV in my lifetime.
ReplyDeleteDave Koz? Where is he? My gf and I used to have the biggest crush on him. We met him when he sang the sax for Richard Marx and then kept in touch for a few years. He was a talented singer/songwriter on his own, and loved his niece Emily, even wrote a song about her! Then he had a few years of moderate fame, wrote the theme to General Hospital and I was so happy for him, then he came out...
DeleteIt then dawned on us why he had been so nice to 2 sweet and pretty innocent girls over the years. We never stood a chance the entire time and he looked upon us like little sisters. Bottom line, this guy is a journeyman who has paid his dues and I would love to see him win or win again, but what category?!? Lol
I originally wanted to post - no love for Psy?!? Hehe
Oh wow that's cool! I saw his name when I was scrolling through the list of nominees, which brought me back to 90210.
DeleteAnd, good point - where is Psy????
Just found him under instrumental album. I remember that episode! It was actually decent exposure I guess. I know Adam Levine was on there. Was anyone else who has made it big?!? I know I am one of the few Dave Koz fans, so I know he doesn't count...lol
DeleteI wanna see Psy and his moves if I get to see LMFAO and theirs...lol
What gets me is that the Grammy's were always so exclusive - both attitude and atmosphere. It was a hard club to get into and now - they have an hour long show to announce their nominees?!? Things have changed...
Hooray for Fiona Apple & Tom Waits - too bad they can't both win the same category. And hooray for Frank Ocean (4 noms!!) and Alabama Shakes! I may actually watch the Grammys for once.
ReplyDeleteThe Idler Wheel is a great cd!
DeleteIf you can't even print out the full title of the Jay Z/ K West song, how will they announce it on the CBS telecast?
ReplyDeletethey usually don't even announce most of the rap categories on tv. but i imagine if they did the presenters would just say jay-z and kanye west for blank in paris, or just announce their names and leave it at that.
DeleteI don't understand modern music :(
ReplyDeleteThey are the records of the year? Wow
ReplyDeletekaskaaaaaaaadeeeeeee
ReplyDeleteand hunter hayes.
<3
God, I don't know who half of these people are. I thought the A Team was only a show from the 80's, not a song too.
ReplyDeleteEyeroll at the Jay Z/Kanye West song title. I mean, really?
ReplyDeleteGo Kelly Clarkson.
I feel like most of the pop nominated songs are the songs the radio plays over and over and will not get out of your brain. Guess that's why they're award-worthy pop songs.
I feel like hip hop is really at a low point right now.
I wonder who will be the standout performances this year.
And sidenote: This post was really hard to read. I guess from your copy/paste situation.
I'm rooting for the Fiona Apple album because I want to see a presenter get the full title out of their mouth.
ReplyDeleteAnd go Drake (with Fisty Brown being shut out). Some poetic justice.
The rest - eh. I'm not loving a lot of music on the radio right now. I see few songs right now standing the test of time.
The metamorphosis into my mother is complete.
"I'm Sexy & I Know It & "Call Me Maybe" are Grammy worthy??
ReplyDelete@T. E. Cuz I'm a huuuge Kaskade fan as well! Fingers crossed for him =)
That Call me Maybe song makes me want to stab puppies, rip my hair out and scream No, NO, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, Fuck NOOOOOO when I hear it. And the endless parodies. And the multiple videos. I just can't. I hate it. I hate it with all of my soul.
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't Pink get nominated? The more I study this list, the more annoyed I become.
ReplyDelete@Susan - Pink is nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album.
ReplyDeleteWow, Kelly Clarkson love! I actually have heard that song, from that commercial. I won't be mad if she wins a bunch, that would be fun.
ReplyDeleteI hope Frank Ocean does well, especially wins against Chris Beat-Em-Up Brown.
Ugh. Kanye may deserve his noms (I assume), but it just means Nasty K-Dashian is on the horn, as we speak, picking which designer gets to upholster her ass for the event, in yet another ho-ish and insufferable way. Esp. if Bey is going--COMPETITION. UGH.
And finally----WTF is it with Bjork & Tom Waits having to compete in the same category? Really? "Um....call it 'alternative.'"
I bet Psy didn't make the cutoff date. Or some technicality.
ReplyDeleteIf that "Call Me Maybe' is in there, he certainly should be, fo sho.
Exactly! LMFAO and Carly - the third part of the joke needs to be in place.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they are saving him for next year - and I wish I was kidding...
Glad about Kelly, she deserves it. I really don't know hardly any of these people.
ReplyDeleteYay to The Black Keys & The Alabama Shakes!
ReplyDelete@rej-that's awesome that they signed your shirt! :D
Patrick, the drummer, even signed one of his broken sticks for my friend. Those dudes were beyond cool and this was all at a free show.
DeleteWhat the heck is "Best Traditional"?
ReplyDeleteSo when announcing the nominees (or the winners) during the show, how do they handle the n-word in "N****a in Paris"?
ReplyDeleteI am old and so out of the loop, go Kelly Clarkson, I guess because I don't know who most of these people are.
ReplyDelete...by which I mean, do they actually say the n-word? That would be awesome. Please, for my amusement, make some hillbilly douchebag like Toby Keith get to throw out the n-word on the Grammys.
ReplyDeleteAdele and Florence...!!! still looking for Arcade Fire...trying to get past carly rae and chris brown...wtf
ReplyDelete@susan...if you leave out stabbing puppies...I'm with you
ReplyDeletei cannot believe carly rae jepsen was nominated for song of the year! how disgusting!!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope Frank Ocean wins every award he's nominated for. Been obsessed with his album. Everyone else...meh. Chris Brown WHATEVER. Carly Rae Jepson UH HUH OKAY. What's happening to the world?
ReplyDeleteWhat is the difference between record of the year and album of the year?
ReplyDelete...and Yes...Carly Rae should definitely be nominated for Call me Maybe. Whether you like the song or not, that song was the biggest hit over the summer. HUGE. Everyone was recording and doing twists on it on you tube. It is a catchy (though now annoying song), but the second it was on when it first came out...people loved it. people didn't want to like it, because it's so pop corny...but they couldn't help it.
I am teeheeing over Justin Bieber's manager's hissy fit on twitter that he didn't get nominated for anything. That alone makes this list awesome.
ReplyDeleteIt may not be a perfect list, but it is much improved over past nominations. At least this year's selections make it seem as if the nominating team has actually listened to some of the music they've selected.
If it was about popularity...psy would be on the list wouldn't he? grammy's aren't about how popular a song is... there is more involved...like talent...carly rae should never have made that list... I know I'm not the only one who didn't like that song...
ReplyDeleteWould love to see Alabama Shakes and the Black Keys win something. Love El Camino.
ReplyDeleteGuess I'm the only country fan here so I'm going to weigh in....Eric Church better win something. That entire "Chief" album is THE SHIT.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Carly Rae won this year. She has a gift for making feel-good music.
ReplyDeleteAlso am happy for Kelly Clarkson - I think she's a real talent.
Justin Bieber's manager should be happy, bc he has overexposed Justin to the point that lots of people are just tired of him. Give the kid a rest.
The number of people on here that think Carly Rae Jepsen is good is truly baffling. How fucking stupid are all of you? It's shit music, made for fucking retards. For the love of christ, would you please stop tapping your feet like idiots and make a goddamn effort to seek out music that is actually good?
ReplyDelete@Jeff.... The majority of people commenting can't believe she was nominated, myself included.
ReplyDeleteDid you even read through the comments??? Check your facts before being so fucking rude.
If you're not one of the people saying "That song was so catchy, I'm glad she was recognized," then I'm obviously not talking to you, LottaColada. But based upon your hyper-offended reaction, you're likely still an idiot.
ReplyDeleteJeff, are you in need of a BJ? You're awfully cranky. :P
ReplyDeleteI'm not really cranky, Amber, but to answer your question, who isn't?
ReplyDeleteLol at me being offended. I was simply using your tone to get the point across. Good day sir.
ReplyDeletebonnie - I would NEVER stab a pack of puppies. It's just that song makes me feel that much anger. Whoever is behind that song is EVIL.
ReplyDeleteDon't even get me started on LMFAO. Those two fools are the worst.
At least that Hey Sexy Lady song wasn't nominated. That for sure would prompt me to boycott this travesty. But really, who am I kidding, the best part is the day-after Joan Rivers fashion bitchfest.
The state of today's music is a travesty (says crochety old lady hobbling off with her cane and CDs.)
WHAT, No Gangnam Style??? :)
ReplyDeletecrila16: Record of the Year is for a single song that was, theoretically at least, released on its own (or what us old geezers think of as "45s"); Album of the Year is for a full-length album.
ReplyDeleteRobinthemadhatter: then what about albumn? I thought song and record, one was for "singer," one was for writer...thanks for bringing this up crila
ReplyDelete@Jeff C.
ReplyDeleteActually, I have a degree in music (classical).
That hasn't stopped me from appreciating pop, rock, rap, disco, electronic, folk, baroque. I'm 50, by the way.
Pop music has it's place - Mozart was the Jack White of his day, Mariah Carey is the Jenny Lind of our day.
Music doesn't have to be depressing to be meaningful. It's easy to get stuck in self-absorbed wallowing music, but producing uplifting, happy and danceable music is also a talent.
Pink_Palace: Record of the Year & Album of the Year would be for the performer(s) and IIRC the producer(s); Song of the Year would be for the songwriter--at least, I'm reasonably sure that's how it works. There are also separate awards for Producer of the Year for both classical and non-classical music, and particularly for the latter you usually see a whole long list of everything s/he worked on during that year's eligibility period.
ReplyDeletei love miguels album. so glad to see it get some love.
ReplyDeleteRobin the mad photographer: first off, sorry for calling you the mad hatter! Secondly, thank you for your explanation! Can't wait for the perfect occasion to make those incredible brownies of yours!
ReplyDeleteI'M BLIND!
ReplyDeleteFiona Apple's album needs to win. I haven't listened to anything else since it came out in June.
ReplyDeleteI cant believe no one else is outraged that Taylor Swift's monstrosity We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together is nominated for Record of the Year. ??!!!! Really?
ReplyDeleteso glad The Roots Undun was nominated. The whole album is good but my personal favorite is Lighthouse
ReplyDeletehttp://youtu.be/R4SjLsAVE4Q
Hoorayy for the EDM love!! Skrillex and kaskade all day!!
ReplyDelete
