Frankie Muniz Had A Stroke And No One Noticed
Apparently former Malcolm In The Middle star Frankie Muniz had a mini-stroke last week and no one noticed. He was admitted to the hospital because he was talking funny and acting weird. Well, that is me after about 9pm every night. Although his long suffering girlfriend was scared, it must not be that serious because he has been Tweeting where his band is going to be playing next week and how he will be playing with them. Huh. Worldwide attention from a mini-stroke, band playing. Put a gun to your head after beating your girlfriend? Get some sympathy from the world for a mini-stroke and plug your band. I am not taking this lightly, but I do find it odd that no details have been released and we are just assuming it is a mini-stroke and not drugs or something and that instead of talking about why it happened he chose to talk about dates his band was playing.
He probably figured at his young age that a stroke was the farthest thing from his mind as a possibility at the time until the tests came back even though it can happen at any age it's just more rare when you're young. My school friend had one after the birth of her second child when she was in her 20's and it took months of hospitalization, rehab, and medications to recover.
ReplyDeleteWhatever the cause, it's scary. Lucky thing he got medical attention right away.
ReplyDeleteIt does surprise me that he's downplaying it and focusing on his band. Common reaction to scary brain things (which you can't control or fix) is to focus on anything but.
Hope he's okay.
I don't think he's as young as he looks!!!
ReplyDeleteWasn't he a big partier a few years ago? My first thought was that it's drug related but maybe I'm jumping to conclusions? He bought that really expensive car when he was 16 and he seemed out of control so I'm guessing there was drug use? I hate thinking of someone suffering a stroke for no reason :(
ReplyDeleteI googled after reading Christopher Cruz's comment...Frankie is 27 today. Damn, that is so young. I hope he does take it seriously. It could be he's just presenting that carefee attitude to cover his fears...or it could be he doesn't care.
ReplyDeleteThey call high blood pressure 'the silent killer'.
ReplyDeleteStrokes are in my family - I looked after both my elderly parents after each suffered a long series of strokes.
I would urge everyone to keep an eye on their blood pressure - some drugstores have free machines for you to check it.
I've been on blood pressure medication since my early 20s, when I almost fainted during a sports tryout at college. Of course exercise helps, but it does not overcome any genetic factors.
I just switched to a new medication, which includes a free machine to check your blood pressure at home.
I missed the gun to the gf's head bit. When was that?
ReplyDeleteDon't blame him for focusing on his band after something like this. Would you really want to think about death/disability at 27? Hell no!
If he truly had a mini-stroke, he needs to stay away from, um, excitable things such as cocanium....
ReplyDeleteNot saying that he is taking any such thing but he is a young guy in Hollywood....
You people are not only gullible, but stupid. Google a mini-stroke and you will see that it is nothing like a stroke. It is a completely different medical problem which only lasts several hours and doesn't cause permanent damage. It is usually related to blood pressure problems or other problems like diabetes.
ReplyDeletestroke in your 20s?
ReplyDeleteApparently it's more common than I thought.....
A mini-stroke is different from that of a regular stroke. My father unfortunately had one about two years ago. He didn't feel anything, but my brother and mom noticed some things seems off so we forced him to go to a hospital that evening. After some tests they realized he had had a mini-stroke earlier in the day. Again, there really were not any "symptoms" except that his facial expressions were a bit off and his grip on his right hand was not very strong. My father's was caused by stress and his own medical issues - there are plenty of reasons why Mr. Muniz could have had one.
ReplyDeleteMy brother had several mini strokes. they were only noticed when he was talking and walking funny and for a while was unable to play the piano as well as he had before because of the time gap between what the brain was saying to what his fingers were playing had grown. It's gotten a lot better, but oddly enough he can only drink one to two drinks now before becoming SMASHED.
ReplyDeleteKAP -- no need to call people gullible and stupid...especially when your information is, at the least, incomplete.
ReplyDeleteTIA (transient ischemic attack) or mini stroke presents exactly like a stroke but because the blockage or narrowing of blood vessels doesn't last, the symptoms don't last. Patients can miss a TIA and so can clinicians because of this.
TIA diagnosis is kind of a maybe. The only way to be sure would be to have symptoms of a stroke, followed by a head CT or MRI. Strokes show a blocked or bleeding vessel, which caused the stroke. A TIA by definition won't because the blockage was transient and is gone.
Drug usage CAN cause this type of incident -- by jacking up blood pressure or causing vasospasm or blood clot.
Hope that helps...
OH -- and big point here: You CAN fix TIA - well, kind of...TIA is a warning that something big is coming unless you change your ways -- control blood pressure and diabetes, lay off the stimulants and maybe add some anticoagulants. So yeah, big scary brain thing but also a wake up call that I hope he heeds.
Mildly OT - anyone else out there REALLY annoyed by people facebooking/tweeting/instagraming pictures of themselves in the hospital? I don't mean, say, a picture of momma and a newborn baby, or maybe an update about a lengthy stay. I'm referring to those individuals who feel compelled to "announce" their injury or illness with a hospital pic and little to no explanation. Seriously, you might not be feeling too bad if you have the energy to vaguebook it out to 200 of your closest friends!! Sympathy-seek much??
ReplyDeleteOk, I'm done. Carry on.
@Frufra. Yes! Yes! Yes! Omg! One of my friend's daughter was in the hospital for an appendectomy. Child is 13/14...I would've killed my Mom if she'd done that! The poor girl looked absolutely wretched and her Mom, whom I adore, was posting almost hourly pics of the girl.
ReplyDelete@tuxedo cat: high blood pressure runs in my hubby's family. Strange fact: my sister in law has had it for years. Then her daughter tested positive for fructose intolerance. She decided to try out the same diet (basically, no candy, cookies and other stuff sweetened with fructose, hardly any fruit, but a lot of veg), and her high blood pressure is gone.
ReplyDelete@Reeses - I knew I liked you :-)!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a 14 year old, so I hear you loud and clear on that. I never even mention him on Facebook unless I ask him first, and certainly never tag him unless he tells me to. I think people forget what it's like to be a kid sometimes! Shit, they don't need to smothered and embarrassed every second of the day!
My dad, whom I dislike very much, loves to take pictures of people when they're, say, prepping for surgery, at a funeral, hell, even lying in the casket (no joke). After a lifetime of that shit, I have no patience for having my photo made, period. So I MAY be ever so slightly biased in my view on this subject :-p.
o_O Pictures of dead people. Omg, after my paternal G'ma died, we received her effects: prominent in her photo album was pics (plural! 6!) of my Dad; he committed sui. Not cool, G'ma!!
ReplyDeleteI loathe getting my pic taken. I don't like to be surprised. I don't like my piccy taken when I'm sleeping. I prefer to have my face *on*, tyvm!
My family are casket photographers. I don't mind them, but then again maybe I'm just used to it. Growing up that way you just know they'll be snapping away when you go...
ReplyDelete@symarillion
ReplyDeleteThanks for mentioning the low-sugar diet...I am already on one bc blood sugar, but am going to try to be more strict with my diet and see if it helps...I had no idea that anything other than staying away from salt could help, so thanks :)
@pop - it's not so much the casket photography, per se, it's the continual photographing of people in compromised situations who ask to not have their picture taken, and their requests fall on deaf ears, KWIM? I've never though that was any way to treat people you claim to care about. Or really a person you've just met. Ether way. I'll shuttie with my Daddie issues now :-p.
ReplyDeleteThis is what what my almost 67 year old grandpa had a few weeks ago. Thank all again for you good wishes, prayers and thoughts. He is doing great and yes likely caused by my grandpas high blood sugar. Now I am on a cinnamon blood sugar adjusting pill and it has made me feel much more clear headed.
ReplyDeleteI really hate being tagged on other people's Facebook photos. I don't put photos on mine & only one person has ever asked permission, I said yes to them, I was overwhelmed by ther thoughtfulness.
ReplyDeleteHe beats his girlfriend. Fuck him, his band and his stroke.
ReplyDeleteIn many cultures and regions of the world casket pictures are quite common.
ReplyDeleteMy stepdad is a Spaniard and has photos of his father in a casket.
Facebook is evil bc when we all signed up and accepted that mandatory user agreement probably without reading, it says they own all our pics and posts. You can opt out of letting friends tag you. I'm so creeped out bc within 1 week of me posting one pic of my new kittens, I get a sponsored post for a cat food brand. I've never gotten a cat themed sponsored post before. That's FB selling your info to advertisers. And don't you love how FB decides to stop showing all your friends posts on your timeline? People that you voluntarily subscribed to and replaced them with their own sponsored posts. It WAS the perfect website to keep in touch with far away friends and family because of how everyone can chat together about a photo you posted. Even Instagram now is selling your contact. Does anyone have a safe website for uniting people who can't be face to face? Emailing stinks bc it's one on one. I don't even think twitter will be safe much longer.
ReplyDeleteWhether it's true or not he is the next in a line of several people I know or have heard about having a stroke (or heart attack) in the last two months. Crazy
ReplyDeleteSo since he's a woman beater will we now be getting the "He beats women" in every single post regarding anything he does "ala" Chris Brown? It would seem natural since you claim to be an equal opportunity celebrity skewer.
