Found money! It's usually just change but a few times I've found dollar bills or a fiver. The best is when you find a random $20 in an old jacket pocket!
I believe that found money is a little gift from the angels. Money from the heavens! They send us all kinds of gifts if we just pay attention.
A friend and I found a hundred dollar bill on the sidewalk. We tried to do the neighborly thing and see if anyone was walking around looking distraught, but after 20 minutes we called it good and split it. I think I paid a bill and he bought copious amounta of cigarettes with his.
I found a 10 dollar bill on the floor of a department store as a child. My mom made me turn it in until the end of the day to see if anyone asked for it. I got it that night when no one did. I really can't remember finding anything more than that and I'm old now, lol!
I found $40 in Meijer once. There was no one close by and I was about to exclaim, "hey, did someone drop this money?" but realized that not everyone is as honest as me. I found an employee to ask if someone had reported it missing, but no one had and they said that they couldn't take cash in their lost and found. So I donated the money to go toward surgery for an injured animal at a no-kill shelter.
One hundred dollars, I took it to the police station, they said if nobody claimed it, in a year I could. They didn't, which made me sad because I know how it feels to lose all the money you have. I went back to the station and donated it to the police toy drive.
I found a hundred dollar bill crumpled up on the side of a riverbank. I had just spent my last dime and it was a week before my next paycheck. Great day and great memory!
I found a folded up $20 last week. I also found a wallet with $500 cash in it once. I hand delivered that back to the guy who lived a few blocks away from me. He offered me $100 as reward. Had to turn that down. Seemed like the right thing to do. I kept the $20 though, that didn't come with an address.
I also found a crisp $20 bill in a shirt pocket from a shirt I bought at Goodwill. Now, when I go thrifting, I always poke in the pockets, just to see. Ya never know.
A friend of mine plugged my name into missingmoney.org - it said that I had about 700.00 out there that was mine! I don't know how that happened, but it was great to do the paperwork and get that check. I encourage you all to go to that site and see if you have any money owed to you.
I was paying at the pharmacy once and the girl over changed me $5. I noticed right away and gave it back, she thanked me for being honest and I left the store.
Went outside and found a $5 bill stuck under my driver side tire.
I found $10.00 in a pile of cow manure bags at Home Depot once. (I took off work that day to do some spring planting) There wasn't anyone in the gardening section, not even a clerk, so I kept it.
Mr. B found $100.00 in the street outside the Palm Beach County courthouse last year. Again, no one was around (kind of surprising). I took it to the bank to make sure it wasn't counterfeit and then deposited it in savings.
there's a local deli that I often find loose change in the parking lot - it's more unusual when I DON'T find change there! I have no idea why.

As I walked out the door, I glanced down at a small bag in my hand and realized that the floor manager had handed me a bag of money. I had watched her empty the cash registers of all $100, $50 and large stacks of $20 bills. I hesitated, I really did, but I went back inside and called over the floor manager. When I showed her the bag that she had given me, she grabbed it and turned on her heel and walked away. She never even said thank you. I have always wished that I had kept walking because of her reaction. I know she was shocked, but sheesh, I just saved your ass lady, you could at least say thanks! It was ALOT of money, probably $2000 or $3000.
I lost a bunch of money that I had put I'm my jeans pocket. (bad habit) I am not sure of the exact amount, probably 60 dollars. I've also had a bank teller give me $150 more than the check that I had cashed in the drive through. I tried to give it back to her 3 times and she insisted that the amount was right. I went home and put the cash in a drawer waiting for the bank to call me. They never did, so I kept it.
I was coming back phrom break when I saw a small change purse on the ground. I didn't count the money, but it was quite a thick wad. I recognized it as belonging to a regular customer. I looked around and saw her standing at the bus stop. I hauled ass over there. I said, Hey Marina, your purse. She was overwhelmed. I just said, you're welcome and returned to work, not thinking much oph it.
About 2 weeks later, mgmt called me upstairs. I thought I'd pissed ophph yet another manager or customer. lol She had had a phriend write a very nice letter. She'd just cashed her SS check and it was all the money she had. I cried. We don't know what someone is going through. I got a commendation phrom the company and a gipht card oph $50. I spent it on supplies phor an animal shelter. I would do it the same iph it happened again. =) I believe it's bad karma to keep what isn't yours.

Oh, yeah. Over the years, I've phound money in jackets and coats and purses I've bought at Salvation Army and the like...never more than $5, but it's a nice little phind. My phriend phound a watch, very nice men's watch. She took it back and it was returned.
I'd love to say I did the honourable thing and turned it in, but I was very drunk, 17 years old, and all I thought was "Yay, more beer for me and my friends"
Just recently saw money while I was driving w/ my mom and sons. It was on the other side of the street and I had to make a U-turn on a slightly busy road. I was excited when I found a $20, then a $10, then another, then another (altogether about $73) until I saw that it had fallen out of a wallet with all of its credit cards and ID. *sigh* I couldn't in good conscience keep it so I called the guy and met him at a Wawa. I'll admit, I thought he might give me something. He did...a bunch of roses. Oh well, I still know I did the right thing. :)

I was in an airport in Frankfurt or Prague, I noticed a what I thought was an black iPod case. I opened to see if their was a name on it, instead of an iPad it was a case with credit cards and hundreds of euros. I took it to security immediately. Everything intact, I hope whoever lost it found had it returned.

I also used to work at a dry cleaners, found a 50 in a ladys jacket and returned it to her. She was so happy she gave it to me.
I always try to return if possible and pay it forward if I receive money.

I think it was almost $300 (in a tight rubber-banded roll) I found on the floor in a women's clothing store. I was with my two sisters, we were all pretty broke, and later we split it up equally. I think I used my share to fill my gas tank and pay the electric bill. Good times.
i had visa reverse my $7000 bill once and leave it that way for 5 months. I never called them made a payment-nothing. then eventually they sent a letter and there was my $7G back. It was nice to be payment free for a few months though. And they never charged me interest.
$15 dollars for me. Once upon a Christmas season my then tweenish little brother saw a lady drop an envelope full of money out of her purse while in the toy store. He caught up with her and gave it back, and she bought him a Sega Genesis game as a reward. True story.
I once found a $20 on the crosswalk near a grocery store. I picked it up and another $20 blew out of it and landed at the feet of another fellow crossing the other way. We looked around and there wasn't anyone else in the vicinity that it could have belonged to. We then had the following conversation:
Him: This is too much money to find on the street! Me: I know. I feel bad, this is probably someone's grocery money. Him: I didn't see anyone drop it. Me: Neither. Him: Well... Me: Maybe we could donate it. Him: That's a great idea. Me: To a homeless person or something. Him: Yes! Me: Well, there's a homeless person right over there.
I start walking towards the homeless person. The guy says : "Oh, YOU'RE going to give it to him? Great!" and WALKS AWAY with his $20.
Me: (yelling after him) That's not how karma works, you DOUCHE!
I did find some money with the gas company when I lived in the Atlanta area. I had a gas furnace and hot water heater, so in the summer my bill was minimal, around $25.00. Winter came around and it didn't change - after 2 months of bitterly cold weather my bill was still $25.00. I called the gas company, she went over my account - turned out the meter hadn't turned for almost a year. They sent a guy out who put on a new meter and he said they'd probably look at my pattern of use (I'd lived there around 10 years) and charge me that. A few weeks later the gas company called and said since I had noticed the problem and called them about it they were going to forgive anything more I might owe and they'd just start fresh. I was absolutely stunned - I figured I owed around $800.00. Just proof that honesty DOES pay occasionally!
I am concerned that people think they should be rewarded for doing the right thing. Kudos to all who returned/tried to return money without an expectation of a reward. For those who didn't even get a thank you, I am thanking you, you helped make the world a better place.
$187. My co-worker and I drove somewhere together for lunch. On our way back we stopped by a Walgreen's for a card. It was a VERY windy day. As we were pulling into the parking lot I knew instantly what was blowing across a parking space was money. I yelled, "MONEY!! STOP THE CAR!!" and leaped out while it was still rolling, and started gathering up the money which was starting to pick up speed and blow all over the parking lot. She got parked the car one space over and started gathering as well. By the time we had thoroughly searched around the car and parking barriers we had $187, mostly in small bills.
We went into the store to tell the clerk what happened and leave our information in case someone went back looking for their money. We figured someone had just dropped it because it hadn't blown far. Since that area has a number of nudie clubs we also figured that a lady had gotten off of work, stopped by the Walgreen's, and dropped it when she got out of her car. We felt bad because that is a lot of money to lose doing a thankless job. We flipped for the odd dollar and divided the money between us. I waited quite some time before spending that money hoping she would call.
I found a $100 bill in the gutter outside a furniture store last year. Since I had recently had $400 stolen from me, I figured I was owed that money and kept it. A few years before that, I found $40 on the ground in a parking lot, and have found $20 bills on the sidewalk several times in my life.
My sister and I found $20 on the pavement leaving a dinner party. It was right next to a truck parked on the street & had obviously fallen on the ground as someone exited the cab. We left it on the windshield under the wiper. It never occured to either of us to keep it. I hope they found it next morning.
When I was in the 3rd grade I found $200 in an envelope on the playground. I turned it into the principal's office. They said if no one claimed it by Friday I could have it. So on Friday in I went and collected my money! I have always attributed this to my good luck with finding money!
When I was 16 I found $300 on the floor of a grocery store. I handed it in. The owner who lost it was a local business man who then sent me a huge basket of chocolates.
In a busy mall around christmas, i looked down and on the ground was someone's atm card! I picked it up and called the bank. She asked me the name on the card, i tood her and she said, omg, he works here! Sent it back. Never got one single thank u from him or bank. I will always do the right thing, but it is surprising when someone doesnt say thank you! At the very least he knew where it was and didnt hv to worry someone was using it. I like the basket chocs the best as reward!!!!
I found $20,000. I work at a bar and it was in a Manila envelope in an inner coat pocket. I knew the regular who left the coat and found the envelope. I had no idea it was that much until he came back a half hour later. I returned the coat with the money, he gave me a $75 reward. He said he would have taken the money...I should have good Karma for life right!? I still wish I took the money....
Just recently I found a ten dollar bill. I only found it because my dog wanted to go for a walk (I found the money while walking her) so I used it to buy the dog a bag of her favorite treats.
My boss let me take home a little kid-type purse that had been in the lost and found for over a month, I was gunna give it to my niece. Turns out there was a dinky wallent in there with $50 bucks and some gift cards
I used to work at a hotel that was located across from my credit union. One day on my break I walked across the street to get out some cash and found a small wallet in the parking lot. I took it back to work with me and it was full of cash (I didn't even count it, but it was a wad) and credit cards. I looked up the owner in the phone book, called her, and told her I found her wallet and gave her directions to my office. She came in, a well dressed older retiree (who matched her photo ID) and was very thankful. She said she had stopped at the bank to get out some cash before she and hubby headed out of town for the weekend and hadn't even noticed the wallet was missing. She would have been in a real pickle without her wallet and credit cards, etc. She insisted on giving me a $40.00 reward and would not take no for an answer.
Another time I found a gold and diamond bracelet out on the hotel grounds and turned it in to Loss Prevention. Hotel policy was that if an item wasn't claimed in 180 days, the property would revert to the person who turned it in, so 6 months later I found it in an envelope on my desk long after I'd forgotten that I'd found it. I still have it.
It's not exactly money, but I found someone's debit card outside my local Starbucks last week. Went in, asked if the person was a regular. They put the card in their safe.
I read a story once about a couple who were having a hard time mineywise one day they found 50e and they were able to buy food anyway years pass and now they make more money so once a month they let 50e just drift off in the wind and they hope it helps someone, I found one before and it really helped me
I used to clean a bar in a hotel and finding money on the floor at the end of the night was always a bonus. One night I went into work a little early and had to help one of the bouncers wake up a really drunk girl who had passed out and gone unnoticed for a while. She was there with a big group of friends and they had been hitting on a group of bar regulars all night. At some point someone made off with her purse...so because I was one of the first people she saw after she was shaken awake I got accused of stealing her purse. I told her I hadn't, and that should have been the end of it but she walked to the police station to report it. They came in to the bar and asked me all kinds of questions which I had no real answers for...I hadn't been there all that long. Two days later she showed up at work to lodge a formal complaint against me for stealing her purse. That resulted in another question period..again with me proclaiming my innocence and my bosses giving me the side eye and not really believing me. After a second visit from the police...this time when the bar staff was still there, some of the waitresses and a bouncer filled them in on what had gone on that night and that I had nothing to do with her missing purse, which had been taken by one of her friends for safe keeping because she had a bad habit of getting loaded and losing it. I never did get an apology from her, or my employers when the truth came to light.
My son and I found a wad of twenties (maybe $120 total) on the ground outside the post office. All I could think was that this was probably some elderly person's money for the week (it's always me and a bunch of oldies at the post office :-). We turned it in to the post office, and my son was very impressed. He's 10; that was a world of money to a ten year old! I hope it's owner came back and claimed it.
$100 bill blowing in the breeze in Westport...it's a popular bar district here in Kansas City. As a kid living in Germany I found a 20 Deutschmark bill...went to the candy store and treated myself to a smorgasbord!
OH yeah, I found a $100 bill outside the food vendors at a music festival too...tons of ppl milling about...and I had my eyes down...always on the lookout!
The most I ever found was my own $40. I used a self-checkout at a supermarket and picked the cash-back option. The money dispenser was in a weird place; by the time I was done I forgot about it. Was about to drive away when I remembered. Other people had used the same self-checkout after I did, but miraculously, it was still there!
Last Wed, I found $40 in the parking lot of the bowling alley. It was the $40 dollars I had lost earlier in the evening when it fell out of my jacket pocket. It was windy and chilly, and an hour later when I drove 5 miles back to the bowling alley to see if by chance someone had found it.
When I was a single mom (the first time around) I only found $20 at the ATM on the floor one day. But it was a day that I had less than $2 in my account.
I don't think I ever found more than $5, but one time, I was at the ATM and the guy in front of me just left his card in the machine mid-transaction, and walked away. I didn't even think to check his balance, I totally should have...*L*. I removed the card, and returned it to the bank. No thank you from anybody. I would never have tried to steal money out of his account though, that would be stupid seeing as there were probably cameras in there *L*
Found an unmarked bank envelope with 784 dollars in it. No bank name, no deposit slip. I was delivering pizza at the time and left a note in the lobby of the apartment building I found it in front of. Nobody ever called. I kept it.

ReplyDeleteI think it was almost $300 (in a tight rubber-banded roll) I found on the floor in a women's clothing store. I was with my two sisters, we were all pretty broke, and later we split it up equally. I think I used my share to fill my gas tank and pay the electric bill. Good times.

ReplyDeletei had visa reverse my $7000 bill once and leave it that way for 5 months. I never called them made a payment-nothing. then eventually they sent a letter and there was my $7G back. It was nice to be payment free for a few months though. And they never charged me interest.
ReplyDelete$15 dollars for me. Once upon a Christmas season my then tweenish little brother saw a lady drop an envelope full of money out of her purse while in the toy store. He caught up with her and gave it back, and she bought him a Sega Genesis game as a reward. True story.
ReplyDeleteI once found a $20 on the crosswalk near a grocery store. I picked it up and another $20 blew out of it and landed at the feet of another fellow crossing the other way. We looked around and there wasn't anyone else in the vicinity that it could have belonged to. We then had the following conversation:

Me: I know. I feel bad, this is probably someone's grocery money.
Him: I didn't see anyone drop it.
Me: Neither.
Him: Well...
Me: Maybe we could donate it.
Him: That's a great idea.
Me: To a homeless person or something.
Him: Yes!
Me: Well, there's a homeless person right over there.
I start walking towards the homeless person. The guy says : "Oh, YOU'RE going to give it to him? Great!" and WALKS AWAY with his $20.
Me: (yelling after him) That's not how karma works, you DOUCHE!
Scene.
I did find some money with the gas company when I lived in the Atlanta area. I had a gas furnace and hot water heater, so in the summer my bill was minimal, around $25.00. Winter came around and it didn't change - after 2 months of bitterly cold weather my bill was still $25.00. I called the gas company, she went over my account - turned out the meter hadn't turned for almost a year. They sent a guy out who put on a new meter and he said they'd probably look at my pattern of use (I'd lived there around 10 years) and charge me that. A few weeks later the gas company called and said since I had noticed the problem and called them about it they were going to forgive anything more I might owe and they'd just start fresh. I was absolutely stunned - I figured I owed around $800.00. Just proof that honesty DOES pay occasionally!
ReplyDeleteI once found $35 inside a birthday card in a library book. Have to admit that it never even occurred to me to try to track down whose it might be.
ReplyDeleteI am concerned that people think they should be rewarded for doing the right thing. Kudos to all who returned/tried to return money without an expectation of a reward. For those who didn't even get a thank you, I am thanking you, you helped make the world a better place.

ReplyDelete$187. My co-worker and I drove somewhere together for lunch. On our way back we stopped by a Walgreen's for a card. It was a VERY windy day. As we were pulling into the parking lot I knew instantly what was blowing across a parking space was money. I yelled, "MONEY!! STOP THE CAR!!" and leaped out while it was still rolling, and started gathering up the money which was starting to pick up speed and blow all over the parking lot. She got parked the car one space over and started gathering as well. By the time we had thoroughly searched around the car and parking barriers we had $187, mostly in small bills.
ReplyDeleteWe went into the store to tell the clerk what happened and leave our information in case someone went back looking for their money. We figured someone had just dropped it because it hadn't blown far. Since that area has a number of nudie clubs we also figured that a lady had gotten off of work, stopped by the Walgreen's, and dropped it when she got out of her car. We felt bad because that is a lot of money to lose doing a thankless job. We flipped for the odd dollar and divided the money between us. I waited quite some time before spending that money hoping she would call.
I found a $100 bill in the gutter outside a furniture store last year. Since I had recently had $400 stolen from me, I figured I was owed that money and kept it. A few years before that, I found $40 on the ground in a parking lot, and have found $20 bills on the sidewalk several times in my life.
ReplyDeleteMy sister and I found $20 on the pavement leaving a dinner party. It was right next to a truck parked on the street & had obviously fallen on the ground as someone exited the cab. We left it on the windshield under the wiper. It never occured to either of us to keep it. I hope they found it next morning.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in the 3rd grade I found $200 in an envelope on the playground. I turned it into the principal's office. They said if no one claimed it by Friday I could have it. So on Friday in I went and collected my money! I have always attributed this to my good luck with finding money!

ReplyDeleteIn a busy mall around christmas, i looked down and on the ground was someone's atm card! I picked it up and called the bank. She asked me the name on the card, i tood her and she said, omg, he works here! Sent it back. Never got one single thank u from him or bank. I will always do the right thing, but it is surprising when someone doesnt say thank you! At the very least he knew where it was and didnt hv to worry someone was using it. I like the basket chocs the best as reward!!!!

ReplyDeleteI found $20,000. I work at a bar and it was in a Manila envelope in an inner coat pocket. I knew the regular who left the coat and found the envelope. I had no idea it was that much until he came back a half hour later. I returned the coat with the money, he gave me a $75 reward. He said he would have taken the money...I should have good Karma for life right!? I still wish I took the money....

ReplyDeleteJust recently I found a ten dollar bill. I only found it because my dog wanted to go for a walk (I found the money while walking her) so I used it to buy the dog a bag of her favorite treats.
My boss let me take home a little kid-type purse that had been in the lost and found for over a month, I was gunna give it to my niece. Turns out there was a dinky wallent in there with $50 bucks and some gift cards

ReplyDeleteI used to work at a hotel that was located across from my credit union. One day on my break I walked across the street to get out some cash and found a small wallet in the parking lot. I took it back to work with me and it was full of cash (I didn't even count it, but it was a wad) and credit cards. I looked up the owner in the phone book, called her, and told her I found her wallet and gave her directions to my office. She came in, a well dressed older retiree (who matched her photo ID) and was very thankful. She said she had stopped at the bank to get out some cash before she and hubby headed out of town for the weekend and hadn't even noticed the wallet was missing. She would have been in a real pickle without her wallet and credit cards, etc. She insisted on giving me a $40.00 reward and would not take no for an answer.
ReplyDeleteAnother time I found a gold and diamond bracelet out on the hotel grounds and turned it in to Loss Prevention. Hotel policy was that if an item wasn't claimed in 180 days, the property would revert to the person who turned it in, so 6 months later I found it in an envelope on my desk long after I'd forgotten that I'd found it. I still have it.
It's not exactly money, but I found someone's debit card outside my local Starbucks last week. Went in, asked if the person was a regular. They put the card in their safe.

I read a story once about a couple who were having a hard time mineywise one day they found 50e and they were able to buy food anyway years pass and now they make more money so once a month they let 50e just drift off in the wind and they hope it helps someone, I found one before and it really helped me

I used to clean a bar in a hotel and finding money on the floor at the end of the night was always a bonus. One night I went into work a little early and had to help one of the bouncers wake up a really drunk girl who had passed out and gone unnoticed for a while. She was there with a big group of friends and they had been hitting on a group of bar regulars all night. At some point someone made off with her purse...so because I was one of the first people she saw after she was shaken awake I got accused of stealing her purse. I told her I hadn't, and that should have been the end of it but she walked to the police station to report it. They came in to the bar and asked me all kinds of questions which I had no real answers for...I hadn't been there all that long. Two days later she showed up at work to lodge a formal complaint against me for stealing her purse. That resulted in another question period..again with me proclaiming my innocence and my bosses giving me the side eye and not really believing me. After a second visit from the police...this time when the bar staff was still there, some of the waitresses and a bouncer filled them in on what had gone on that night and that I had nothing to do with her missing purse, which had been taken by one of her friends for safe keeping because she had a bad habit of getting loaded and losing it. I never did get an apology from her, or my employers when the truth came to light.
ReplyDeleteMy son and I found a wad of twenties (maybe $120 total) on the ground outside the post office. All I could think was that this was probably some elderly person's money for the week (it's always me and a bunch of oldies at the post office :-). We turned it in to the post office, and my son was very impressed. He's 10; that was a world of money to a ten year old! I hope it's owner came back and claimed it.
ReplyDeleteBack in 1969, I was a kid and found a roll of money in a rubber band in an alley. I thought it was $50, but my Mom said later it was $200. Memory.
ReplyDeleteMom took the money and spent part of it on school clothes for us, and put away some for me to use to buy Christmas gifts later.
She did let my brother, my cousin (who was staying with me at the time) and I each buy whatever board game we wanted. They cost $3.50 each back then.
My cousin and I got "Mystery Date."
Mom was smart to take the money and use part of it wisely. I'd have blown it all on candy and Pepsi.
I've found lots of money over the years, but mostly small amounts - $5 or less. The family considered me to be lucky when it came to that.

OH yeah, I found a $100 bill outside the food vendors at a music festival too...tons of ppl milling about...and I had my eyes down...always on the lookout!

ReplyDeleteThe most I ever found was my own $40. I used a self-checkout at a supermarket and picked the cash-back option. The money dispenser was in a weird place; by the time I was done I forgot about it. Was about to drive away when I remembered. Other people had used the same self-checkout after I did, but miraculously, it was still there!

ReplyDeleteLast Wed, I found $40 in the parking lot of the bowling alley. It was the $40 dollars I had lost earlier in the evening when it fell out of my jacket pocket. It was windy and chilly, and an hour later when I drove 5 miles back to the bowling alley to see if by chance someone had found it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a single mom (the first time around) I only found $20 at the ATM on the floor one day. But it was a day that I had less than $2 in my account.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I ever found more than $5, but one time, I was at the ATM and the guy in front of me just left his card in the machine mid-transaction, and walked away. I didn't even think to check his balance, I totally should have...*L*. I removed the card, and returned it to the bank. No thank you from anybody. I would never have tried to steal money out of his account though, that would be stupid seeing as there were probably cameras in there *L*
ReplyDeleteFound an unmarked bank envelope with 784 dollars in it. No bank name, no deposit slip. I was delivering pizza at the time and left a note in the lobby of the apartment building I found it in front of. Nobody ever called. I kept it.
