None yet, but I always watch a bunch. I'm a sucker for those ABC Family movies starring C- listers who used to be As and Bs.
ReplyDeleteCharlie Brown Thanksgiving. The only ones I care to watch are the AWESOME BUrl Ives claymation ones with Rudolph, Frosty, Jack Frost, etc. I'm obsessed with them.

ReplyDeleteAmber, I haven't, but it sounds like something I'd watch. Last year, I enjoyed DJ from Full House saving her father's Christmas theme park. The year or two before that I remember the mom on Yes Dear and Dean Cain adopting orphans for Christmas.

ReplyDeleteNone, but I did go see A Christmas Story on Broadway. Definitely were way more adults than kids in the audience and the grown up boys were laughing the loudest.
ReplyDeleteNone yet. But I plan to watch Gremlins, The Ref, Life With Mikey and Eyes Wide Shut during Christmas week. What? Eyes Wide Shut took place during Christmas time didn't it? I feel it counts.

@bobbi Might I suggest "The Man Who Came To Dinner" (1942, starring Monty Woolley and Bette Davis). Includes such amazing lines like "My great aunt Jennifer ate a whole box of candy every day of her life. She lived to be 102, and when she had been dead three days, she looked better than you do now." Might provide the appropriate level of holiday cheer :)

ReplyDeleteKaren, ABC Family movies are so awesome! It's not a Christmas one, but remember the one with the nerdy girl who moves to NYC and her neighbor is Ethan Embry and she thinks he's gay even though he's in love with her and then she gets all hot and hooks up with her boss?

ReplyDeleteNone. I try to ignore Christmas until the week of. It's not like anyone is shoving Hannukah music in my face, so I try and think about that....and do not go into any stores without a set of headphoness for my phone to tune out the torturous music for the next month.

ReplyDeleteI've already lost count. I watch the Hallmark channel a lot between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The movies they show are unintentionally hilarious.

ReplyDeleteAll I've watched is Christmas Vacation so far - I'd never seen the whole movie before. "We're going to have the hap-happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap danced with Danny fucking Kaye!" HAH!
ReplyDeleteI've got a few that I watch every year, but it will not be officially the Christmas season until I pop "A Muppet Family Christmas" into the DVD player. My copy is a bootleg and includes all the scenes that have been cut out over the years due to song rights issues - it's my favorite Christmas movie ever.
Hallmark has those X-Mas cheesefests on all night long, every night. Makes it hard for momma' to get her Golden Girls fix.
ReplyDeleteThey're usually really bad. Not sure if that's on purpose or not...it would almost have to be. Once and a while there'll be a cute one. I like "The Road To Christmas" with Clark Gregg and Jen Gray. Then again, I'm a sucker for Clark Gregg. I'm also a sucker for any movie on a wholesome family channel driving some of the way too uptight crowd nuts (read the 1-star reviews on Amazon).
I love this time of year. The only regret is that Nov/Dec FLY BY!! Ugh. That's why I like the end of September so much. Nov/Dec is a better time of year, but it's hard to enjoy because it's moving so fast. When you're at the end of September, you have it all in front of you.
None yet. I'm not really in the spirit and I still think it might be too soon.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I'm considering watching LOVE ACTUALLY this weekend. It's one of my all-time favorites, Christmas or not. Colin, Liam, Alan, Rowan...all in the same flick?! One simply CANNOT go wrong.

Agree with karen- i love the low rent xmas movies on hallmark and lifetime, but classicsvtoo- wonderful life, elf, charlie brown christmas, etc. i like the cheesy formula of the schmaltzy movies- the odd meeting of couple, their dislike of each other, each mistakes other for loser but they turn out to be rich, writers, movie stars, etc, the " tradgedy" one has to overcome, the adorable precocious child, longing for mother/ father figure, the grouchy oldster who pulls it all together with his/ her wit and wisdom, and of course, the completely unexpected- like no one has access to weather forecast- blizzard on xmas eve. Its a fomula old as time.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I often torment my mother for her love of the Lifetime/Hallmark/Family Channel Christmas flicks, but you know the one I really enjoy? COMFORT AND JOY, with Nancy McKeon. THAT was a very clever one! I just love her anyway...AND it has one Miss Dixie Carter, too! Anyone else dig this one?

ReplyDeleteNone. :( I don't have regular TV, just Roku, and I rarely even turn that on. I do want to watch "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Miracle on 34th Street", and maybe "An Affair to Remember" this season. I get weepy over everything in December for some reason.

Glad I'm not the only one who loves the ABC Family Christmas Cheezefest! I haven't watched anything Christmas-y yet, but oh, I will!
ReplyDeleteMy fave all-time is It's A Wonderful Life. Second would be the old b&w movies--White Christmas, Holiday Inn, etc.
I also try to watch Love, Actually. And maybe Serendipity, Last Holiday, and Four Christmases. I can only handle small doses of Elf but love Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story (on the entire 24-hour playing time Xmas Eve!)
I adore all the old Rankin/Bass holiday specials. They remind me of my childhood. The Year Without a Santa Claus is my favorite. I have the Heat Miser theme as my ringtone this time of year. And of course, will watch Rudolph, Frosty, Shiny New Year, etc.
Also love the animated Twas the Night Before Xmas with the mice who break and then build the clock..."Christmas chimes are calling, Santa, Santa...."
And finally...my guilty pleasure is another ABC Family movie called Santa Baby with Jenny McCarthy, Ivan Sergei, and Norm from Cheers as Santa. If you haven't seen it, watch it. It's AWESOME. Do not make the mistake of watching the sequel. It involves Dean McDermott.
Just watched our first last night - Prep and Landing, which was actually really cute. Only 22 minutes, have to ease my husband into the Christmas spirit. Kids loved it

ReplyDeleteI try to avoid the Christmas movies on HMC and Lifetime. BUUUUT last year I came upon one called "Recipe for a Perfect Christmas." It has Christine Baranski aaand Bobby Cannavale, both who are on respected series at the moment. But this Lifetime movie was made in 2005 when I think they both needed money. It's sooo cheesy. But I watched the shit out of it.
Has anyone seen Family Stone? i LOVED that movie, but my soul sister BFF hated it. I'm thinking I might be the only fan
