Today's Blind Items - Kindness
This actress had a chance to get to A list. She was thisclose and was in a movie that got her nominated for one of the big awards and everything was going great. Then she had a personal tragedy which she does not discuss much and since that time she has worked on her career but other things in her life are more important. For her, she has been focusing on kids, especially those who are terminally ill. Her favorite thing to do which she does at least once a week is go to a children's hospital and sit and meet with kids and they watch some of her most famous movies. The movies that still make kids scream with delight when she comes visit them. She has tried to get her castmates to come with her because the kids would even love it more but they always say no or they will come some other time. There is one castmate who invariably comes. Apparently there is nothing quite like the smile of a kid who is suffering from cancer when this B list all movie actor walks in the room and sits down and watches the movies with them. If smiles could heal, there would be no sick people when he comes along to visit with our actress.
No guesses but these are my fave blinds- I wish we had more of them.
ReplyDeleteAnna Kendrick/Robert Patz
ReplyDeleteAshley Tisdale/Zac Efron?
ReplyDeleteJennifer Hudson? I'm bad at these.
ReplyDeleteAmy Adams & Patrick Dempsey (Enchanted)?
ReplyDeleteYeah I was thinking someone from the Twilight series too. But maybe more like Ashley Greene?
ReplyDeleteAnna Kendrick and Taylor Lautner
ReplyDeleteThe "personal tragedy" made me think Michelle Williams, but I can't really make the rest of it fit. Plus, I can't think of anything she's been in that children would be interested in.
ReplyDeleteI would like it to be Anna - love her anyway. Some of her most favorite movies does make it feasible to be her and ?
ReplyDeleteWe have to start with actresses who have had a tragedy in their life. Maybe breast cancer survivors?
ReplyDeleteCameron Diaz? Nominated for Oscar in 2000.
ReplyDeleteMovies - Shrek?
B list co-star - Mike Myers?
Pfft @cinephreak, there is no way this could be Ashley Greene. This says ALMOST A list, and got nominated for a big award.
ReplyDeleteNo way is Ashley Greene A list, nor is she even kind hearted enough for something like this.
Trust me.
Thanks Enty. I think we needed this. I know I did.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of starting with actresses who have had problems, but Enty says she doesn't discuss it much so there's a real chance we don't know what the tragedy is. It'd be nice to have it be the Twilight kids but who else has been nominated AND been in kiddy-friendly movie/s?
This doesn't have to be too recent. I started thinking about people like Marisa Tomei, Helen Hunt but couldn't think of movies they have made geared towards kids.
ReplyDeletereading blinds today, i feel like i'm 100 or just really out of it.
ReplyDeleteashley greene almost A? why?
to me, this sounds like someone older than that who even dumbasses like me would've heard of.
I was wondering if this could be ashley judd and the rock with toothfairy? he is a B List film actor who kids would love to meet. Ashley was nominated for yaya sisterhood?
ReplyDeleteJust trying to make the rock work. Kids love him
Yeah, I got the feeling this was someone older like Julie Andrews. She is NOT my guess, because no way JA isn't A-list. But she's been in so many movies that are staples and everyone knows them.
ReplyDeleteI'm with C. Malone, I first thought Jennifer Hudson, but can't see what movie she did that kids would love.
ReplyDeleteI like the J. Hudson guess. Why can't more people in hollywood be so wonderful and more blinds like this please :)
ReplyDeleteIt would help to know the age of these kids too. The under 10 crowd wouldn't go nuts for Twilight. Probably closer to Harry Potter territory. So I'm going to work backwards and start looking up people who have worked with Rupert Grint in the last year or so.
ReplyDeletePenelope Ann Miller with one of the movies being Kindergarten Cop?
ReplyDeleteI'm totally reaching.
Anna Paquin (movies such as Fly Away Home, X-Men) - she supports Children's Hospital in Los Angeles according to IMDB. I don't know about tragedy in her life.
ReplyDeleteJoan Cusack was in the last two Toy Story movies and Mars Needs Moms. The tragedy being her brother, John.
Jennifer Connelly does charity work that deals with Children. She was in Labyrinth and Hulk.
Johnny Depp for the actor?
ReplyDeleteOops. Never mind. Depp is A-list
ReplyDeleteOkay, this is my guess:
ReplyDeleteRupert Grint starred in a film titled 'Wild Target' with Emily Blunt, who was a critical darling after 'Prada'.
I got the sense that these are young kids screaming and this actress is older, but I got nothing.
ReplyDeleteShoot. Nevermind. Both the actress and the actor were in kids movies.
ReplyDelete@Amber - If Julie Andrews, how about Dick Van Dyke for co-star who comes along? He's like the most affable guy ever, even nice to the TMZ crew.
ReplyDeleteEnty these kinds of blinds need to be exposed so we all can love this actress/actor.
ReplyDeleteI love the Julie Andrews/DVD guess. But would kids still recognize them? They're a bit older than their Mary Poppins days.
ReplyDeleteI like the Shrek guess.
ReplyDeleteThis brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful thing to do.
Ellen Page - nominated for Juno, was in one of the X-Men films and maybe Ben Foster?
ReplyDeleteNot Julie Andrews she was never shy of A list. But someone like her, a classic film.
ReplyDelete@Butterkwup - At the risk of appearing obsessive, The Sound of Music plays once or twice a year on the tube - Mary Poppins less often, but I see it once in a while. And The Princess Diaries series isn't too old. But - DVD isn't all-movie, and I'd call him A list. So, never mind.
ReplyDeleteJennifer Hudson with Eddie Murphy
ReplyDeleteWhat about Anne Hathaway? Princess Diaries. the tragedy being that whole scandal with Rafaello Whatever his name is. B list co-star could be Chris Pine or Jason Schwartzman.
ReplyDeleteExactly what I was thinking.
DeleteJennifer Connelly seems like a good guess. She was in the Rocketeer too. Hmm...
ReplyDeleteCameron Diaz's personal tragedy was losing her father unexpectedly. She doesn't like to talk about it much. I could see this being her, with possibly Mike Myers or Eddie Murphy as the one who shows up sometimes.
ReplyDeleteAh! Good call, @Nerners. Or Jim Carrey? The Mask.
ReplyDeleteNichole-I was just about to guess Anne Hathaway and the Princess Diaries also. :)
ReplyDeleteCould it be someone like Catherine O'Hara, personal tragedy, death of close friend John Candy, nominated for Emmys, film awards for the Guest movies, Beetlejuice and the Home Alone movies for the kids?
ReplyDeleteI read this as Anna Kendrick and could see her doing this because she seems like a very sweet person, but I don't know if it is her. Whoever it is, is a good soul!
ReplyDeleteThis isn't Julie Andrews - she's an EGOT winner (Emmy/Grammy/Oscar/Tony) and permanent A-list.
ReplyDeleteI feel like we're missing a clue about the B-list costar - who's famous for their winning smile?
No idea for the actress, but maybe someone older from the Harry Potter movies? All of England was in them at one point or another. And for the actor, all of the ones that come to mind first (Mike Meyers, Eddie Murphy, Jim Carrey) all put in significant time on TV (SNL and In Living Color). So I'm pretty much useless today. Hope this one gets a reveal though!
ReplyDeleteMs Cool said...Joan Cusack was in the last two Toy Story movies and Mars Needs Moms. The tragedy being her brother, John.
ReplyDeleteLOL! *snort*
I think it's Anne Hathaway, known to kids from the Princess Diaries movies. She was nominated for the best actress Oscar for 2008's Rachel Getting Married. Also in 2008, it was revealed that her then-boyfriend was a con artist. The disappointment and embarrassment may have stalled her progress, but she still has every chance to be on, and stay on, the A list. Hathaway is on the board of directors of the Lollipop Theater Network, whose mission is "bringing movie magic to hospitalized children." I think the costar mentioned in the blind is Steve Carrell (they played the lead roles in 2008's Get Smart). Kids know him from Despicable Me, among other things, and his smiling face is on the home page of http://www.lollipoptheater.org.
ReplyDeleteI kept thinking Anne Hathaway when I read this because she seems like she would be really nice in real life and not all about doing it on camera.
ReplyDeleteI like the Cameron Diaz guess, too, because she losing her father is a tragedy that she doesn't talk about.
Anne Hathaway is a good guess.
ReplyDeleteI love the Anne Hathaway/Steve Carell guess (even if Despicable Me is animated, so it's only his voice).
ReplyDeleteNot to diminish the pain of a horrible break-up...but, I don't think that could quite be considered a 'tragedy'. An untimely or sudden death of a spouse, partner, friend or family member, yes. Someone having a near-death experience, or surviving cancer, yes.
ReplyDeleteAlso, this is someone who never QUITE made it to A-list...and is focused on KIDS with CANCER.
I'm thinking our clues may lay somewhere in where she's decided to focus her good deeds.
Funny. I was thinking Robin Wright, but other than The Princess Bride, what movies was she in that would cause kids to squeal?
ReplyDelete3 minutes before me jinx!
DeleteRobin Wright & Cary Elwes!!
ReplyDeleteI don't really know, I just really really want the movie the kids watch to be The Princess Bride
Anybody want a peanut?
ReplyDeleteHow about Penelope Cruz? She is heavily involved in charities and has been a Pirates of the Caribbean movie and G-Force. I don't know what the tragedy was in her life, though.
ReplyDeleteDating Tom Cruise.
DeleteI got it, the Emma Watson. The kids would love Harry Potter and she was named in a kindness blind re: a little kid dressed as Harry Potter on Halloween and she went over and said great costume! That's someone who is a genuinely nice good person, who would go out of their way to see the smile of a child.
ReplyDeleteCarrie Fisher and Harrison Ford? He's probably an A though...
ReplyDeleteThought of Jennifer Hudson, but I can't think of any other movies she was in besides the one. Anne Hathaway has to be A at this point, though, right?
ReplyDeleteSeems like this is an actress whose tragedy befell them in the 80s or 90s, who has kept working steadily but never in starring roles, and has some kid's movies on her resume.
@ Cara - Julie Andrews hasn't won a Grammy or Tony though I agree she *is* forever A-List.
ReplyDelete@ MsCool - I also LOL'd at the John Cusack comment. What a tool!
Oh and PLEASE REVEAL !
ReplyDeleteThere was a blind item recently that said an actress had had a miscarriage that had brought her closer to her actor husband and the popular guess was Emily Blunt.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm going Emily Blunt with Jack Black as her co-star from Gulliver's Travels (I think kids would get more of a charge out of seeing him as opposed to Jason Segal).
Drew Barrymore? Neve Campbell?
ReplyDeleteI think "scream" is a clue and they both have nominations.
Helen Hunt is in the photos. She disappeared for a while but I can't think of kids movies she has been in (except made for TV specials).
ReplyDeleteMartha plimpton
ReplyDelete0 all movies, closer to being A list, tragedy being death of River Phoenix. Took time off after that.
Someone from Raising Hope set, I'm guessing her husband?
Ooh I like that guess. Martha is an awesome lady.
DeleteI think the cast mate is from a movie, though. Her & Sean Astin go watch The Goonies?
actually Julie Andrews only misses a Tony..
ReplyDeleteFrom wiki: ^ In 1996, Julie Andrews refused a Tony Award nomination for her role in Victor/Victoria in protest of the fact that the production received no other nominations.[12]
And she is a Dame of the British Empire! A list all the way!!
I like the Anne Hathaway/Steve Carell (sp?) guess, especially because I could see him being a guy who would come alive in a roomful of kids. He's an old improv comedian, he could probably make them laugh all day.
ReplyDeleteBUT--SC is not 'all movies'. But he is NOW, he has made the move to film, so maybe he fits. (I want him to!)
Not Anne Hathaway. Being humiliated is not a tragedy, it's a humiliation.
ReplyDeleteEmma Watson?
ReplyDeleteSince it says movies it sounds like a series...
ReplyDeleteHarry Potter
or possibly
Twilight.
Either way great person and glad to see they aren't just doing this for the kudos.
No way is this Anne Hathaway, she is all focussed on her career.
ReplyDeletePrincess Bride is a great guess except I think Elwes has dropped lower than B, not in much for a long time. And a tragedy that changes your life focus is something like death, reminds you what life is really all about.
I also thought scream was a clue.. Maybe Neve Campbell with the movie being Lion King 2?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking Helena Bonham Carter. I thought she had A family member that was killed. She has been in a lot of movies kids watch... Not sure though.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIt can't be Anne Hathaway because she's campaigning for an oscar right now, and hasn't been nominated.
ReplyDeleteIt can't be Anna Kendrick because she never approached the A-list.
Think older.
Agree on Emma Watson. Sweet.
ReplyDeleteAren't both Cameron Diaz and Ann Hathaway A list?
ReplyDeleteI think we need to focus on movies that STILL make kids scream with delight. Older movies. Not Twilight. And probably not Harry Potter. Also: "Some of her most famous movies" makes it sound like she's been in lots of movies.
Shrek
Madagascar
Toy Story
Lion King
Little Mermaid
Aladin
Mulan
My usual crappy guess: Catherine Zeta Jones (personal tragedy being her husband's cancer) and Jack Black (B-list movie actor) ; SchoolHouse Rock the movie they were in together
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of Robin Wright and Cary Elwes. The Princess Bride is an adorable classic, it would kill to watch that with Westley and Buttercup in the room with you! Alas, I can't find a tragedy for her. Unless marrying Sean Penn counts.
ReplyDeleteJennifer Aniston, nominated for good girl, she does alot with st judes, the actor being vince vaughn or adam sandler
ReplyDeleteMiss piggy and Kermit - the Elmo scandal. Sorry, I am being an insensitive cranky old person today. But I like Diaz for it.
ReplyDeleteJennifer Lawrence, and someone from The Hunger Games? I'm bad at these. She was in the photos today.
ReplyDeleteDo you think some kids under 10 would know who Cameron Diaz is, though? They would only know her voice.
ReplyDeleteKids movies is the place to start.
ReplyDeleteThough some make a valid point about Hathaway suffering a "humiliation" she was with the guy for years, was talking engagement and I could see the lies and subsequent breakup as its own personal tragedy of sorts. That's years of your life. It's not a death, but it's still pretty heartbreaking in its context (I say this as someone who recently has lost her mother--tragedy looks different to everyone).
Plus she has Princess Diaries 1 & 2 and Ella Enchanted.
I know a bunch of kids obsessed with those films.
I don't see kids getting as excited to meet the voice of a character rather than the actual person, which is why I'm leaning toward live-action films for the guess. Kids tend to be too literal to understand being "the voice" of someone.
Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter films, Alice in Wonderland) with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe, or Alan Rickman as the co-star?
ReplyDeleteAnna Kendrick (Twilight) with Taylor Lautner (or mayyyyyybe Rob Pattinson)?
This blind is a stumper. Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, and Steve Carell have all appeared on tv and the actor is B list all movie. The actress was almost A list so that knocks out Anna Hathaway, Cameron Diaz, and Amy Adams, Jennifer Connelly, Jennifer Hudson, and Helena Bonham Carter. The actress may have lost a child or a sibling to cancer, which is why she focuses on children who are terminally ill.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking Sandra Bullock
ReplyDeleteI was thinking Sandra Bullock
ReplyDeleteActress: Anna Kendrick (nominated for Academy Award for Up In The Air)
ReplyDeleteCast mates: Twilight Cast
B list Actor: Robert Pattinson
I think Kayelle's got it
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like someone who has been around a lot longer than any of the twlight/harry potter crews.
ReplyDeleteI'm stumped though...
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteSomehow, I don't think anyone has this one yet.
ReplyDeleteMost of the actresses people are mentioning never got a nomination.
You would NOT walk into a children's hospital ward and show them Twilight Movies. Plus, Anna Kendrick is still doing movies pushing herself towards A list.
Anne Hathaway has certainly now slowed down...she's still working like crazy and probably A list at this point.
Mayyyyybe Amy Adams...although she continues to work all the time too.
My best guesses are Whoopi Goldberg and Emma Thompson. Almost certainly wrong.
ReplyDeleteIf Anne Hathaway wasn't A list, this so fits her..
ReplyDeleteThis is more difficult than I thought it would be. The problem with most movies that kids love are that they are animated... I don't think kids would know how to recognize the face of the person who played the voice of the characters. I certainly didn't as a kid.
Twilight is more of a tween thing. Harry Potter or some kind of superhero movie?
I think it's Helena Bonham Carter. According to Wikipedia "In August 2008, four of her relatives were killed in a safari bus crash in South Africa."
ReplyDeleteThe B-list actor could be almost anyone from Harry Potter. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman...
Emma stone and andrew Garfield? Didn't her mum have cancer? And he is superman, right?
ReplyDeleteEmma stone and andrew Garfield? Didn't her mum have cancer? And he is superman, right?
ReplyDeleteCorrection *spiderman*
